I started [http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/big_slim_whatever_weight_loss_club/673982-so-3-double-G-amp-Ts-and-a-bo x-of this thread]] after Christmas, but like many others I've slipped back into my old ways. Half term was particularly bad and need to kick-start healthy eating/weight loss. Anyone from that thread or any new people care to join me?

Hi Madairymilkegg - big consolatory hugs from me and I absolutely sympathise with the whole TOTM thing. I must only have about two weeks out of four when I'm sitting at my true weight. The good news is that when I do eventually lose the weight, the extra fluid won't be noticed so much, but it is a total bummer and demotivator.

Thanks for the support Wabbit. I actually write everything I eat on a write on/wipe off board at home on a daily basis which is fine. I'm sticking to the points ok again now that I'm back from Scotland and back on the wagon but since I'm off work now until next Wednesday, all routine has gone out of the window which doesn't help. The minute you feel like you're on holiday you want to be the "holiday me" instead of "grumpy-nose-to-the-grindstone-so-might-as-well-be-totally-miserable-and-deny-myself-goodies" me. It will be worth it in the summer when I'm slinking around in floaty dresses.

MABS · 09/04/2009 17:50

so true re the holiday mode allovertheplace.
i back tdau and already seen my pers trainer. god i hurt, i was pathetic!

wabbit · 09/04/2009 19:03

Would be nice to fit in a floaty dress that didn't look as though I was hiding a multitude of sins!

today
Oatcakes x 3 ... didn't have time for any breakfast so nibbled these throughout the morning

lunch: 1 slice toast and carton of peeled plum tomatoes

dinner: dp special! beef and brocolli in black bean sauce - yummy!

I have three points left over and can't yet have a glass of wine - not til sunday... I Soooooooooooooo want a glass of wine!!

MABS · 10/04/2009 08:13

i had a glass of wine for you wabbit so you can remain virtuous!

wabbit · 10/04/2009 09:50

Oh thankyou MABS, we escaped to the pub last night and it took all my resolve (actually dp denied my entertaining the thought!!) of calling an early end to my lenten alcohol fast... I'm sure it's had a huge effect on how much weight I've lost.

Weigh in day today, but even if i've not lost anything, I'm already encouraged that my shape's changing, I've just put on a skirt and shirt that I've not been able to wear for 2 years!!!

The places i notice weight loss most are: upper arms, HIPS (big style) I can now see i've got hip bones!! My tummy is still far from lean but much less wobbly, the boobs have lost a bit but aren't looking saggy and I'm losing that pudgy bit that was appearing beneath my jawline Oh and my knees bizarrely!

So, a good day so far, and DP's really lovely about his not having had any complaints before I lost weight, but loving the exitement of discovering my new figure

Have very virtuous days girls... No binging on hot cross buns!!

I'm off to have lunch with my sister and her best friend from our schooldays - She's rarely in the Midlands as she lives in Edinburgh and every now and then I visit and come home wondering why on earth I don't just up sticks and move. Every time i cross the border I feel the same way - think I need another life (or two or three) to do all the things I would like to do!

wabbit · 11/04/2009 10:43

I lost a pound

I'm pleased that my level of denial isn't going completely unrewarded on the scales, but as I said yesterday, it's not just the scales that are showing my weight loss

Hope everyone's haveing a lovely easter saturday - I'm sat in front of the computer trying to finish my blasted essay.

MABS - have you weighed yourself lately? Would love to add an update to your stats - would you like to take measurements rather than weight? As you're doing so much exercise it'll make a difference to your shape rather than weight - I'm very envious of your superior height - mind you, the scales yesterday said i've grown an inch ... not in shoes, just stockinged feet so a bit bizzare!!

Lovely people - If you spot me on MN over the rest of the day, tell me to bugger off!!

allovertheplace · 11/04/2009 14:06

Well Done Wabbit! Another pound in the right direction. You're obviously doing something right and I totally admire your dedication.

Well, we went out for lunch and to take DD to see Monsters V Aliens at the cinema yesterday. Went to Frankie and Bennys for the lunchtime menu and when the waitress came to take our order, my mouth said "Frankie's hotdog" instead of "Chicken Caeser Salad". Don't ask me why! I guess I was thinking that the salad wouldn't fill me up and I'd need a proper tea on top of it. Knowing that F & Bs do large portions of other stuff I had told myself I would only have some WW toast in the evening if having a bigger meal as I'd still be full up from the delish treat. WRONG! It was soooooo disappointing. This abomination appeared in front of me. The fries were fine, but the frankfurter was like rubber and the "toasted" bun had the appearance of a bun that had been defrosted a bit too long in the microwave - all hard and crumbly. I was so disappointed and ended up feeling starving again around 8 pm with minus points left. I could have kicked myself. If only I'd had the 5.5 point salad!

Anyhoo, I've decided that this diet is making me miserable, (or it could be hormonal - I'm not sure). We're having a day in the house today, (having spent a fortune yesterday) and I've done nothing but whinge and snap all day. So, I'm taking a break from counting points and weighing out portions and instead I'm just going to guestimate for the duration of Easter break. I know it's possibly the start of the slippery slope but I'm so WW obsessed that I don't think I would allow myself to gorge on anything high in fat or calories. I'll get counting again on Wednesday when I'm back at work.

Hope you're all getting the sunshine that I'm getting on the West of the UK! It's gorgeous and there's something kinda nice about looking at your washing hanging out on the line....... methinks I need to get out more!

wabbit · 11/04/2009 14:43

Awww, sorry dieting is making you miserable allovertheplace... I don't weigh things in the kitchen, I find many of the portions online are very user friendly - 1/2 can/packet/jar or tbsp etc. totally understand your wanting to put a hold on the diet in strict terms over the next few days though.

That hotdog sounds just awful - you would have been well within your rights to send it back... but us being British - we rarely do, do we?

I just can't get warm - I'm forever huddling up as dd and dp (and skinny ds) seem to have an enviable ambient temperature... I've just laid a fire in the hearth to continue my work in front of - wishing I had a laptop to work at by the fire.

wabbit · 11/04/2009 14:46

Arrrrgh - shouldn't be here - thanks about dedication admiration though Allover - I am dedicated - I'm so fed up of not looking like me!!

rooting for you all though

allovertheplace · 12/04/2009 10:16

Happy Easter Everyone!

Well, yesterday went ok but I'm sure I was over points wise by about a bag of crisps and a handful of mixed (unsalted) nuts. I did have 3 bacardi and diet coke but had tailored the day prior to that to accommodate them. Probably.....

More and more I'm thinking that 17 points a day on WW isn't enough for me.

I've been revisiting some Slimming World stuff that a friend gave me and on there I could eat unlimited fruit on a Green day whereas with WW if I had an apple and a banana, that's 2.5 ish points! The sweet treats look fairly high in Syn value and most savoury snacks account for at least a third of your Syn allowance a day, so that would possibly discourage me away from unhealthy food and more towards healthier food. I think I'm going to try it for a week. Today, (a green day) so far I've had a bowl of cereal, (a healthy extra), two cups of coffee, (coffee is free and using some of my 350 mls skimmed milk healthy extra allowance) and a 2 Syn biscuit, (I can have between 10 and 15 syns a day). Lunch will be couscous with peppers, (free) and a boiled egg, (free) and tea tonight will be a homemade meat-free chilli from the freezer, (free) plus some rice, (healthy extra). I think I need a change and I think it's worth a try.

Hope you're all not wracked with guilt over the chocolate you've undoubtedly not managed to resist! We're all human! I've got a Snicker's egg winking at me as we speak. I plan to break the egg up into pieces and have it over a long period of time, (I'm talking days or weeks as opposed to hours - LOL) and will even slice up the Snickers bar and spread that out! Might freeze the pieces so they last longer in the mouth.

upagumtree · 12/04/2009 11:25

Hello all and Happy Easter [snile]

Things are not going well here on the food front although so far i've managed to resist all chocolate. Nothing to be proud of though given that yesterday we had an uber fattening chinese meal and also for the last two evenings i've over-indulged with wine and crisps. Stepped on scales this morning and i've gained 2lbs It's hardly surprising though and I only have myself to blame. However activity levels are still up and yesterday we did a 4 mile walk around the loch strathclyde park. But the more I exercise the more I want to eat, grrrrr!

I hope the change of diet plan helps Allover. I think you've been great on WW epecially since you had such a measely points allowance. That is what put me off doing WW tbh. There's no way I'd have survived on that. So I think what you've achieved is brilliant!

Wabbit, are you trying to kill me?? No seriously, thanks for the tummy busting exercises. I haven't tried them yet since just reading them brought tears to my eyes. However I will try them as my tummy is the part that is letting me down and getting me down too.

Ok girls. Gonna go just now. Have a raging hangover headache. See you soon x

wabbit · 12/04/2009 11:39

Lol upagumtree! I don't have the resolve to do the pilates exercises i should, I ache so much afterwards!

I'm having a day off the diet today to accomodate cooking for dp's family (roast pork and i can't resist crackling!) but I've not yet had chocolate - we decided not to give eachother eggs we're going to make little chocolate eggs later today when people have gone... ds has a little lamb that wobbles across the floor
allover - I think changing tac-tics could really help - sometimes one thing gets so samey you can't see beyond the denial element.. heaps of good luck to you

HAPPY EASTER to all have a lovely day

wabbit · 12/04/2009 11:40

Oh, AND I can have a couple of glasses of wine today YiPPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

MABS · 12/04/2009 12:26

enjoy the wine wabbit! you deserve it.

we off to a 40th today, think it'll be messy i'm afraid

Dh didn't buy me a egg as he knew i dieting, bought me champagne instead... no cals there then ;-)

wabbit · 13/04/2009 20:46

rofl!!! - would much rather the champagne than an egg!

have been semi good today... have had a couple of glasses of wine ( we have wine in the house as we were given bottles dp's family yesterday... a very well mannered, select kind of guest you know!! )

We spent today in Bewdley which is where I grew up, showed dp the house I spent my childhood in, went a walk round all the places i used to play when I was a child and then took a hike around Wyre Forest.

Fabulously sunny day and I even think we've caught the sun a little on our noses! (or it's the wine making my nose pink! !)

Back to diet in strict form tomorrow - has been so lovely to have a little time not counting!

allovertheplace · 14/04/2009 09:16

Welcome back to Vino Wabbit! Sounds like you had a great day yesterday. Nice one.

Hi All.

I'm just buzzing by, (supposed to be working from home for a bit today then off out with DH and DD as it's DH's birthday).

I have decided to sign up to Slimming World this week, (Thurs). I need to do the public shame thing if I stand any chance of losing weight. There's a group within easy walking distance of my house, (which sort of clinched it as opposed to WW). I also think it will encourage me to eat more fruit and veg and keep the sugary treats to a minimum, going on how the past couple of days have panned out. I haven't felt hungry once!

Will keep you posted!

Ciao for now!

wabbit · 14/04/2009 20:18

Well, I'm back on the straight and narrow again now but with a bottle of child pinot grigio in the fridge it's difficult!
Have been very 'good' today, lots of green leafies and fruit... Still no eggs been past my lips!

DS on the other hand has been shamefully spoiled by the grandparents!

wabbit · 15/04/2009 11:28

morning all
We were all rudely awoken by thunderstorms at 6.30 this morning, consequently very weary now!

How's everyone doing?

allovertheplace · 15/04/2009 13:16

We had thunder here in Chester Wabbit, around 9.30 am. It still feels a bit thundery now but at least it's not raining!

Hi Everyone!

I feel ok today. The dreaded TOTM has arrived so the hormonal mist is clearing!

I'm starting my first serious day at the Slimming World plan today, (as I understand it) and am going to my first meeting tomorrow. I'm looking forward to getting all my information but not looking forward to getting weighed!

So far today I've had:

Breakfast: Cereal with skimmed milk (Healthy Extras)

Cup of coffee and a chocolate finger (1.5 syns)

Cup of coffee and an Alpen Light bar (half of a healthy extra)

Lunch: Three mini Babybel Lights, (HE) 2 Ryvita multigrain, (these were "syns" but would have been a healthy Extra normally - replaced them with two Alpen Light bars), a Muller Light yog (free) and an apple (free)

Afternoon snack later: A banana (free) and the second Alpen Light bar (the second part of my HE)

Tea tonight will be loads of spaghetti with homemade Quorn bolognese, (made from Quorn mince, onions, mushrooms, tinned toms, garlic using Fry Light)(all free)

I have to say, I'm feeling ok. I did have hunger pangs around 11.30 but that's probably because I was late having morning snack. Feel fine and full now after lunch.

This will leave me with a few Syns for an evening snack in front of the telly. Nice.

MABS · 15/04/2009 18:07

well done, sounds good, i not drank champagne yet!

wabbit · 16/04/2009 07:54

OH POO!!
you sound like you're on the right track allover... I on the other hand was taken out for a meal by dp last night and I'm afraid there was NOTHING on the menu that didn't constitute a whole day's points (what can a girl do under these circumstances other than go the whole hog???)

my weigh in tomorrow will tell it's sorry tale I fear

Today I will be very very good!

Good luck on todays meeting allovertheplace

hiya to you too MABS

wabbit · 16/04/2009 14:07

Have just toted up all my points over the last week and I was imagining it to have been far worse than it is, I usually accumulate lots of points cos I don't 'spend' my activity points - this week I've used all but 2.5points up... and it's mainly in Vino

How's everyone else doing?

allovertheplace · 17/04/2009 11:10

Gosh.... isn't it quiet in here???

I'm still here! Had a busy day yesterday so didn't find time to MN at all.

Wabbit: I'm sure the weigh-in also won't be as bad as you fear! Hope the damage is limited!

Well, I went to my very first slimming group yesterday, (I've never gone to that length before, having preferred to do it on my own). It was fine but I had to keep pushing images of Peter Kay's routine about SW out of my head, as well as clips from "Fat Friends"! LOL!

The group leader was very welcoming and it was actually quite small in numbers with it being the Easter break. I learned a fair bit and got all my information plus some yummy cereal bars so I'm all set now. The downside is that I was weighed with state of the art equipment so my starting weight is actually 10 st 7 lbs.

Yesterday I managed to keep within all the boundaries and didn't go over my Syns total.

Today I feel fine so far menu for the day is:

Brekkie - cereal with skimmed milk and a couple of biccies, (healty extras plus 3 syns)
Snack - Alpen Light Bar (taken as 3 syns)
Lunch - two small baked potatoes with leftover Quorn bolognese, apple, banana and Muller Lite yog, (all free)
Snack: SW Hi Fi bar (Healthy Extra)
Tea: Probably a big bowl of pasta with a couple of quorn sausages, (all free)

Total syns for the day so far is 6 out of a possible 15.

I have to say there were only a small number of the SW group yesterday who had gained or maintained over Easter and the rest had lost between 1 1b and 6 lbs in a week! I have a good feeling about this! I will endeavour to go each week and stay for the group bit as well. They seem very nice.

upagumtree · 17/04/2009 13:45

Hiya

Sorry I haven't been in for a while. These blooming nightshifts take some gettng used to again! I forgot how tired I am in the days following tryin to recover and flip my body clock back to day mode. When I was in my twenty's it was so easy and ws done with pinch of salt so to speak. But I swear it gets more difficult the older I get So as we speak I'm seriously exhausted but I need to get a grip as it's ds2's 8th birthday tomorrow and I still need to get things in ready for the big day. He's so excited...bless him!

Anyway there was far too much temptation by way of cakes and chocolate over the last few days at work and I'm sorry to say that I lapsed...again...surprise! I'm sure I've put a couple of pounds on again but too scared to stand on the scales!

Allover...those super-duper-state-of-the-art-new-modern-techno-all-singing-and-dancing scales sound like a load of shite. They obviously don't work properly

Gotta go for now girls. speak soon x
