Hi girls!!

Right.... the rules:

1 No big goals.
2 No failing.
3 No guilt trips.

Our goals need to be realistic. It freaks me out to think I need to lose 10 stone. That's 140 pounds - it's a WHOLE PERSON!!!!

Therefore I propose that we make ourselves realistic goals. Ignore the final hurdle; the first hurdle is my first half a stone.

7 lbs.

No failing: if you put on any weight, then IT IS ALRIGHT. It will come off again.

We will try our best to keep our weight going down, but if it has a blip, then it has a blip - no big deal, ok?

I am sick and tired of putting myself on and feeling guilt tripped by people because I put a pound or two on this week.

NEWSBREAK: it doesn't matter in the big picture!

Focus on the positives.

We will encourage each other as we muddle along together, agreed?

Here is our inspiration to keep going:

Only One Pound

Hello! Do you know me? If you don't, you should. I'm a pound of fat. And I am the happiest pound of fat that you would ever want to meet.

Want to know why? It's because no one ever wants to lose me; I'm ONLY ONE POUND, just a pound!

Everyone wants to lose three pounds, five pounds, or fifteen pounds, but never only one.

So I just stick around and happily keep you fat. Then I add to myself, ever so slyly, so that you never seem to notice it. That is until I've grown to ten, twenty, thirty or even more pounds in weight.

Yes, it's fun being ONLY ONE POUND OF FAT, left to do as I please.

So, when you weigh in, keep right on saying, "Oh, I only lost one pound." (As if that were such a terrible thing) For you see, if you do this, you'll encourage others to keep me around because they'll think I'm not worth losing.

And, I love being around you - your arms, your legs, your chin, your hips and every part of you.

Happy Days!!! After all, I'm ONLY ONE POUND OF FAT!!!

yes please lewisfan - was reading your poem on twinset's thread and it is so, so true! I would like to lose 2 1/2 stone, but would be happy with 1 tbh and need a kick start to my new year's exercise and diet regime, which is non existent so far so, one pound at a time will be a great way to do it

Lulumama · 11/01/2009 20:36

great ! so, simply by posting here , i will lose weight, yes/

Notreallycutoutforthis · 11/01/2009 20:37

Hurrah! Me too! Somewhere between 3 and 4.5 stone would do me - can't be accurate thought as I haven't weighed myself in far too long... So that's the first thing I do in the morning (and not right now with a generous helping of rice and chilli weighing me down )

Alambil · 11/01/2009 20:37

You going to stick by the rules?

No guilt trips!!

Oh and as for exersize, I don't know about you but my life is impossible to go to the gym. I plan on getting out of breath for 20 mins a day; be that walking at uni or doing the housework, it doesn't matter - all that matters is we raise our heartbeat and do so for 20 mins 4 times a week!

differentID · 11/01/2009 20:40

Alambil · 11/01/2009 20:41

I will go for a pound at a time!!! Any loss is great!

My first target is 7lbs and I have started the gym again - 30 minutes minimum cardio and a few weights - my programme is too easy after 3 weeks!!! I used to be a regular gym bunny before DS, but stopped just before I was pregnant as I wasnt getting my moneys worth. Noew I have been diagnosed as diabetic, I am on a GP referal scheme, which is costing me £20 a month to go to the local private gym with all the facilities and it is 3 minutes in the car!!!

My aim is to combine healthy eating with min 2 times a week exercise - so here we go!!!!

Lulumama · 11/01/2009 20:45

i eat good health meals, fruit & veg, jsut the snacking that finishes me off...i eat too much sugar which makes you want more...

mamalovesmojitos · 11/01/2009 20:45

yay . i will be starting tomorrow. no particular diet but counting calories with foodfocus website, trying to choose healthy low gi foods.

i will try and exercise for twenty minutes four times a week.

i need to lose five farking stone. tbh that is really a few pounds thinner than i've ever been but i want to aim to be slim enough to have a few pounds leeway during birthdays, holidays, crimbo etc.

duckyfuzz · 11/01/2009 20:46

snakcing does for me too, I'm fine through the day, but evenings, DTs in bed, glass or 3 of wine, bag of crisps/nuts, that's my downfall

LowSlungAndOverhung · 11/01/2009 20:47

Hi, I'm a long-term lurker.

Something about that poem sums up how I have viewed weight loss in the past - just one pound seemed so insignificant in the scheme of things. I am at least 3 stone over weight.

I used to be much lighter and fit but over the last 18 months, arthritis has completely taken over my life. I hate it. It's left me feeling so lazy.

So, I need to be really focused on diet and find it so hard on my own. Can I join you?

Alambil · 11/01/2009 20:48

Remember the first rule Mamaloves: small goals - they are doable. "5 farking stone" sounds scary! (good idea though - to keep a few lbs back to play with)

OP posts:
Alambil · 11/01/2009 20:49

Course ya can LSAO

CeceliaAhern · 11/01/2009 20:50

Me too please

CandleQueen · 11/01/2009 20:50

I can't fit the gym in between playgroup runs and a 6 month baby demanding my time. And can't really afford Rosemary Conley (which is what I did last time - lost a stone) Plan to walk into town every Friday morning for a weigh-in in Boots, and do an excercise dvd every week, and follow a low GI diet.

Long term goal is 5 stone (DH has promised a holiday in NZ if I manage it).
Medium term goal is 2 stone by the time I'm 30 (August).
Short term goal - 2lbs this week!

Alambil · 11/01/2009 20:53

Oh wow!! NZ! what a brilliant goal - you will make it!

OP posts:
MoreSpamThanGlam · 11/01/2009 20:58

Im in.

I will lose only one lb a week...in six months thats erm about 25lbs..fark! Thats almost 2 stone.

I am in like Flynn.

i am dog walking fast every night until I feel I can manage to run without getting cramp in my feet.

No sugar in coffee only splenda.

I WILL DRINK 2 litres a day. Please kick me if i dont.

Lewisfan....I imagined you to be stick thin and scrawny...how odd.

eekareindeer · 11/01/2009 20:58

Me too please.

Two stone and 1 or 2lb to lose, to be at a realistic sustainable weight for my height.

Aside from pregnancy I am at my heaviest ever and none of my clothes fit. It doesn't help that I've recently given up smoking but I refuse to buy size 16 clothes so somethings gotta give.

I won't use the term diet though, it is a forbidden word in my world . I went on a diet when I was 14 and weighed 8 stone something - and its all been downhill since then!

Self belief + healthy eating + a lot more exercise + less alcohol should do it for me, I hope.

I do hope Twinset sees this and joins up.

Alambil · 11/01/2009 21:01

Stick thin ?!! Ha!

25lbs is OVER two stone; not nearly

I'll make sure TS sees it - don't you worry

OP posts:
mamalovesmojitos · 11/01/2009 21:02

yes lewisfan you're right.

candlequeen nz! fantastic motivator.

if anyone has any good ideas for low-fat healthy recipes or snacks why don't we post them too.

oh and remember everyone to moisturise, moisturise, moisturise and try to do some toning exercises. i worry a lot about loose skin which may be inevitable for some of us but we can try and minimise this.

bamboobutton · 11/01/2009 21:02

another snacker here, and a cheesaholic.

i'm aiming to lose 34lbs (which i think is about 2 and a half stone) hopefully will lose alot of it in time for my sisters wedding in may, she is re-using my bridesmaid dresses and i need to be able to fit into a size 12 by then

has anyone used a portion plate to combat eyes-bigger-than-stomach syndrome?

Alambil · 11/01/2009 21:06

Not a portion plate but I stick with the "no meat portion bigger than my palm" and then just pile on the veg (no root veg)

My diet book has a curry type recipe in it if you're interested? Also some soups and things for lunches... I'll see if I can find it tomorrow
