Hi ,can i join you?
Ineed to lose my last 10 lbs of baby weight before a wedding in August-really struggling to find the motivation at the minute!

BecauseImWorthIt · 25/06/2008 10:29

Welcome, bonnibaby!

dinny - think smoked mackerel is fine!

toadette - here's a lovely breakfast idea that I had this morning:

1 very large, flat mushroom
2 rashers bacon
cheese
hot pepper sauce (optional, but I love it!)

Fry the mushroom in some olive oil till it's cooked through (just a couple of minutes should do it) and fry the 2 rashers of bacon at the same time.

Season the mushroom cavity, chop the bacon and put it into the cavity. Drizzle with as much hot pepper sauce as you want (I use Encona which is low carb) and top with cheese. Grill until the cheese is browned.

Really tasty and filling.

See I think that's why I didn't do well on the low-carb diet, I lost plenty of weight but I couldn't sustain it as a lifestyle so I ended up putting weight back on when I started eating carbs again, even though I introduced them slowly, I just don't like enough vegetables and fruit, I don't eat much meat except chicken or pork, don't like fish, so I was pretty much stuffed!

I am ravenous now, I've just put my chicken on but am that hungry normally I would snack whilst waiting for it to cook, which I'm not going to do!

BecauseImWorthIt · 25/06/2008 12:07

Ah, VS - you see one of the great joys of being on the dark side eating low carb is that you aren't hungry!

Shame you don't like veg though - it does make it hard!

VictorianSqualor · 25/06/2008 12:14

If I was sensible though, and actually prepared then I could've had my wraps ready for the time I would be hungry, which I didn't, I was too busy MNing

My lunch isn't particularly high-carb though, grilled chicken with onions and lettuce wrapped in a tortilla, X2. Plus a chopped apple (I can't bite into them) Same with breakfast, one lsice of toast, and a yoghurt with raisins, not exactly high-carb, just not low enough for induction.

I'm already 'watching' my carb intake and being aware that it's best not to eat empty carbs, normally my lunch would be a sandwich, in white bread, with some crisps and coke, so I shall keep an eye on the carbs, especially if they could easily be swapped for something else.

Fanella · 25/06/2008 12:17

I am going to have to do some serious investigating of these carbs and such like. I've always assumed low carb wasn't for me because I enjoy bread/rice/pasta and can't have much dairy (cheese is a complete no-no).

Just had a lovely salad for lunch.

dinny · 25/06/2008 13:09

hello everyone

right, am already thinking Atkins is too extreme for me, esp as non-meat eater

think am going to do a low-GI/tracking Points cross diet!

gah

OP posts:
VictorianSqualor · 25/06/2008 13:18

Dinny, there is no need to count points or your GI index etc unless you want to follow a specific diet.

Just stick to the basics and you'll be fine.

No bad snacks, only sncak if you've quenched your thirst and waited 5 minutes (it really does help, plus if you drink water your mouth tastes neutral and the thought of adding anythign sweet to it is quite off-putting).

All carbs, or as many as possible to be good crabs, not empty things like crisps and cake and white bread.

Three decent meals a day.

Plan your food, tomorrow I've promised to do burgers for the DC's but am going to do home-made oven chips and will pick up some granary rolls for me today so I can still have burgers just won't be fucking up the whole diet, If I know I'm going to be eating cake at MiL's for example, I'd make sure everything else was good substantial food, if I am eating lasagne and jacket spud, I wouldn't try not to have any other carbs during the day etc.

Exercise, a small amount, just to get your metabolism kicking in, it can be chair exercises, doesn't have to be running or something, for me it's just getting one less bus a day and walking instead.

dinny · 25/06/2008 13:31

thanks, VS, what about wine?

OP posts:
VictorianSqualor · 25/06/2008 13:41

"if I am eating lasagne and jacket spud, I would try not to have any other carbs during the day etc."

Wine is bad for you, sadly, so cut it out as much as possible, if you know you are going to have wine, try to have a day filled with mainly fruit and vegetables, and match each glass of wine with a glass of water, so drink as much water as you can during the day, and then as you drink the wine, either drink the same amount of water before bed, or after each glass of wine, have a glass of water. Red wine is better to drink than white. Dry is better than Sweet.

BecauseImWorthIt · 25/06/2008 13:47

Oi - dinny - step away from the wine!

I hadn't realised you were a veggie, btw - yes, low carbing isn't easy if you're not a meat eater. But Rose Eliot has written a very good book of veggie low carb recipes that might be worth a look at? Can't remember the title, but it's something obvious like low carb veg cooking.

Have just had two burgers (without the buns, evidently!), with a small amount of fried onion, gherkins, cheese sice and tomato relish/mustard. With salad. (Couldn't manage it all. One wasn't enough but two was too much.)

Dinner this evening will be something relatively carb free - possibly an omelette with salad. Haven't decided yet. DH and DCs are having sausage casserole with rice, so not a meal for me!

I don't normally cook separately, as it's too much of a chore, but I'm a meal short this week as we were going to out on Monday to celebrate the end of DS1's GCSEs, but he didn't want to in the end.

toadette · 25/06/2008 13:51

Dinny, wine is not good for me on a diet. It wrecks my willpower as well as adding those extra calories for every glass. I think I need to cut right back during the week if I'm really serious about losing these 10lbs. Clear spirits eg vodka or gin and diet mixer such as slimline tonic water are much lower in carbs btw.

dinny · 25/06/2008 13:52

find it soooooo hard to resist a glass after kids are in bed - how the hell can I do it?

I think I will think low-carb rather than induction low-carb, iyswim?

OP posts:
toadette · 25/06/2008 13:55

So do I, dinny. We'll just have to break the wine habit together

BecauseImWorthIt · 25/06/2008 14:01

Today will be day 3 for me without wine. We can do it!

Once I'm past the 6.30-8.00pm slot I'm fine, actually.

TillyScoutsmum · 25/06/2008 14:02

Hello ladies - is there room for a not so little one ??

Am getting married in November and want to lose another 1.5-2 stone before then. Have been doing Slimfast for 4 weeks and have lost 8 lb but have come to a bit of a grinding halt....

BecauseImWorthIt · 25/06/2008 14:04

More the merrier!

What's your chosen torture plan?

TillyScoutsmum · 25/06/2008 14:10

I think I might stick to Slimfast for a while but need to be a bit stricter on the evening meal (supposed to be 600 calories and its probably been much more). I also desperately need to do some exercise

Anyone recommend any good exercise dvd's ? I can't really get out to a class because I struggle for babysitters but I do quite enjoy aerobic type exercises

Also giving up smoking at the moment (10 days fag free !), so have been eating more sweet things than I normally do (drumstick lollipops are particular fave )

snickersnack · 25/06/2008 14:11

Bit late to this - can I join in? Finished BFing a couple of months ago and assumed the weight would fall off, but sadly that hasn't happened and my clothes are feeling rather tight. I've started cycling into work 3 days a week - it's about 5 miles each way - so am hoping that will help. But really need some motivation to change my eating habits - main meals are fairly healthy but snacks are a problem. Am going to try the glass of water trick...also maybe cutting down on carbs, I eat far too many.

dinny · 25/06/2008 14:14

welcome all!

God, why isn't wine helful in losing weight?

right, if can resist tonight, then am working late tomorrow and am out on friday night, so will drink then

let's meet back here at the danger time (or is wine OK if you inc it in POints

OP posts:
toadette · 25/06/2008 14:16

Tilly, I have Davina, TaeBo and Nell McAndrew DVDs. Davina's workouts are good and effective but if I want a more intense workout I go for Nell or TaeBo.

Fanella · 25/06/2008 14:18

Tilly - I was considering slimfast for a quick fix before my holiday in 5 weeks time. How does it work - is it drinks for brekky and lunch and then a 600 calorie meal of your choosing?

Hello to bonni and snickers too!

toadette · 25/06/2008 14:19

Dinny, NO wine - don't waste your points on it, save them up during the week then can enjoy your wine guilt-free at the weekend instead

dinny · 25/06/2008 14:29

ooh, Toadette, that's what I need -a firm no!

right, will resist!

VaginaShmergina · 25/06/2008 14:30

Hello girls, u all ok ?

Well I went for my first "life coaching" session last night and have my gym induction at 4pm today.

Have dug out the flourescent pink leg warmers and the lycra hot pants.........

Basically this six week plan is agreeing to exercise for 50 minutes 5 times a week. Only having 10g of fat per meal (only 3 a day I'm afraid !)

You can have 2 units of alcohol a day and you can have 1.5 days off to do what you like.....

Weight 13stone 10lbs
Measurements

Chest 41
Waist 34
Hips 42.5
Buttocks 46
right thigh 26
left thigh 26
right arm 13
left arm 13

Keeping the fat content down will be tough as I am used to doing WW and going on the saturated fat not the whole fat content.

Will be great if it works so gonna throw myself headlong into it. It might give me the taste for the gym I have never had and the incentive to be more positive in my life and feel better about myself.

I long to find the person I was pre-kids, maybe she's in there somewhere hiding in all this flesh !!!
