somone get me on straight and narrow (that inc wine 4 times a week) - totally lost focus!

What is wrong with weighing yourself daily?
I usually jump on the scales first thing to ensure I am not pigging out too much! If I don't then I find my weight creeps up.

dinny · 24/06/2008 10:00

morning all

sorry about your house sale, Vag

right, I am doing Induction from today!

have just had two hard-boiled eggs, tomato and salad leaves with bit of sesame oil

going to tuna and salad for lunch and going to make myself eat chicken and green veg for tea

and am giving up alcohol

does the above sound too many carbs, BIWI?

Sorry you had bad news about the house sale, vaggie. CountessDracula, the reason I can't allow myself to step on the scales every day is that if I don't like what they're showing then I can just throw the towel in for the rest of the day. I'm a bit all or nothing when it comes to dieting, if one day goes pear-shaped then it can lead to a bad week. So I think I might just free myself from the daily weighing for a while to see if it helps.

dinny · 24/06/2008 10:09

I'm the same, Toadette

ooh, am quite excited about low-carbing - going to ask hypnotherapist to cement it in my subconscious later today

OP posts:
VaginaShmergina · 24/06/2008 10:17

Ditto for me reference the scales, I quit too easily and if I havve worked hard all week and they dont tell me what I want to see, off to the biscuit tin I go.

Dinny good luck with the hypnotherapy, sounds very exciting, its for flying you say ?

You off on hols ?

Judy1234 · 24/06/2008 10:23

Every time you have a "treat" (chocolate, sweets ) or even a diet drink or diet yoghurt, aspartame your poor body which is just getting used to avoiding refined sugar, sugar tastes (except that in fruit and milk etc) gets put back on to the addictive substance - like a heroin addict or alcoholic just having that "one" little drink or fix. So it's better to change your habits for life so you don't eat foods which are bad for you and that is then sustainable over time as well and then eventually you just lose the taste for junk food and wonder how you ever could have put such rubbish into your body in the first place.

People don't eat enough protein, particularly women but I don't think cutting out carbs is good or sustainable. Having small portions of brown rice etc is how most cultures where people are slim operate along with their veg and meat or beans.

VictorianSqualor · 24/06/2008 10:36

I found the low carb diet really hard, I did it for a while, and like I said, lost a lot of weight (DS2 baby weight, about 3 stone) but it didn't stay off because it is pretty impossible to go through life without carbs.

By all means don't eat empty carbs, and cut down other carbs, but IME the easiest and longest lasting way to lose weight is by drinking more water, cutting out snacks and slowly exercising more, if it's done slowly it becomes normal, rather than a 'diet' that you have to stick to.

If you get your body used to eating less, you get less hungry, and don't pig out as much,

Also agree with the sugar thing, I never used to eat chocolate, ever, I wasn't a fan of sweet things, but when pg I get HG and can't keep anything down so for the first six months practically live off coke, which in turn leads to me eating cakes, and chocolate, and sweet etc, when I don't drink the coke, I don't fancy sugary things at all.

dinny · 24/06/2008 10:37

Vag, yes, am going to Greece in school hols, first ever family holiday abroad - we always always go to Scilly (where we are off for the rest of the summer after we return)

I hate flying though, hence the lack of hols abroad and hypno!

Xenia - all very true, I'd love to do this Atkins properly and wean self off sugar (mainly in form of wine, I have to say)and then add healthy complex carbs.... hope I can do it!

dinny · 24/06/2008 10:40

VS - sounds like you did incredibly well, I am exactly the same as you in preg too - first 5.5 months can't eat anything except utter sweet rubbish

what couold I ask the hypnotherapist to put in about not eating too much and not dirnking vino?

btw, I'm not really overweight according to bmi (think it's 23) but I want to be skinny again! for my hols.... oh, and I usually exercise 3-4 times a week (when haven't got bad back!)

VictorianSqualor · 24/06/2008 10:45

I don't feel hugely overweight, have no idea of my exact weight but I did get up to 16stone in pregnancy
Will weigh myself today in town to see what I am now, the weight isn't really my target, I'm a size 16ish (some smaller some larger) in clothes at the moment and I hate it, my cupboards and drawers are brim full of size 12's and I want them to fit again, so that's my target.
Obviously I'm not going to do that in five weeks but once I've weighed myself today I'll have a better idea.
Oh I'm 5'8'' so a 12 I think my best weight was about 10.5-11 stone.

dinny · 24/06/2008 10:50

we can do it, VS! let's go for it!!!

Hi everyone - I had a not so good diet day yesterday in the end... serves me right for coming on here and saying how well I was doing! However, I went for a run in the evening, so I hope that will reset the balance somewhat.

I think it will be a good incentive for me to post my stats on here (plus, I've posted them on other threads so nothing to hide!)

I am 5' 6" and currently weight 11 stone 3. My goal weight is 9 stone 13 and I'm aiming to get there by early September.

So... in the next 5 weeks, I would like to lose at least 5 lb.

I usually weigh in on a Thursday morning.

Oh, and I'm finding this site really helpful.

Good luck everyone - we can get off to a really good start in five weeks.

LivingLaVidaLurker2 · 24/06/2008 10:56

Oh, and I have a waist measurement of 83cm and I'm measuring this every week too. 2cm off so far.

dinny · 24/06/2008 10:57

can't exercise, Fio, have knackered back

Hi Can I join?

I've 1 stone to lose to hit my dream weight, I'm not particularly big anyway so find it difficult to stay motivated.

I fell off the wagon and put on half a stone in 3 weeks.. os I'd like to get that off + another half stone.

I started on friday and have dropped 4lbs already.

I went to the gym yesterday an dburt >500kcals

I am loosely following WW concepts

Oh, don't I sound all 'me, me, me'.. I've only scanned the thread so I will read properly now

VictorianSqualor · 24/06/2008 11:27

OFFS.
Shopping has just arrived, I'd totally forgotten there were doughnuts on the list
I shan't eat any of them though.

Fanella · 24/06/2008 11:40

LLVL2 that site looks really interesting, I will investigate further.

I joined here

and it really helped me lose a big chunk of weight - but after a while it just gets so time consuming and boring filling in your daily diary etc..

But it's taught me a lot about food - I'm definitely more calorie conscious, I've learnt a few tips, and I've been motivated.

I am overweight, and need to actively diet rather than just 'watch what I'm eating' - but I want to do it in a way that means I get into good habits and still enjoy food.

toadette · 24/06/2008 11:43

Step away from the doughnuts, VS!

MascaraOhara, I find it hard to stay motivated too. Because I have 10 lbs max to shift, I find that once I lose about half that amount I tend to lose interest in the dieting and revert to old habits. Hopefully we'll all be able to keep each other on track

I'm going to head to supermarket now for some lowcarb-friendly foods. Would love some breakfast ideas if anyone has any? Also are tomatoes okay on two week induction as I love them and will miss them if they are, sniff..

VaginaShmergina · 24/06/2008 11:45

VS it does not matter how much you think those doughnuts are calling your name...... they are not !!

They are the work of the devil along with the bathroom scales!!
