What size do I look?

I’ve recently (finally) lost 4 stone after having a baby 18 months ago. I’m 5ft 7. What size do I look and any ideas for flattering outfits? I still have a really large chest and bigger thighs so help would be appreciated as I’m really struggling with what to wear.

Because I don't think telling someone who lost weight they look the same size as before is very kind and also there is noway this person thinks she is a size 18 unless they have no idea about size

I actually wasn't. And the OP has since said her boobs are the same size as they were pre weight loss. And that she sometimes needs a size 18. Apology accepted.

eastegg · 22/05/2026 17:04

Do you mind me asking, OP, why you want to know what size people think you are? I genuinely don’t understand why you want to know that. You’ve gone on to tell us that you are very familiar with what size you tend to fit in the shops. What in the dickens does it matter what size strangers or anyone else for that matter thinks you are?

Because she knows what size clothes she needs but is convinced she still looks "huge" and "like a blob" - I guess she just wanted to check how other people see her. I think she looks great!

Emptybath · 22/05/2026 17:11

I think you'd look amazing in vintage clothes - Like Joan from MadMen.

You look amazing!! I’d say a size 12 but really size doesn’t matter - ifs about how you feel and look in clothes and your figure is gorgeous!

Wehaveallgonecrazy · 22/05/2026 17:32

Find things that fit you, feel comfortable and look good on you. Size labels are fictitious! This week I was in M&S to buy trousers. I bought 3 pairs: one a size 12, one a 14 and one a 16. They all fit me perfectly.
Well done on the weight loss. Fantastic result. Chuck out the clothes that are now too big for you; safety nets are dangerous.

Newyearawaits · 22/05/2026 17:48

You look wonderful. Have you thought about those one piece loose fitting jump suits?

PurpleDisco · 22/05/2026 17:52

You look great! How did you lose the weight out of interest?

Yes definitely! Find a good vintage shop and have a try on.

Jennalong · 22/05/2026 18:54

I'm big boobed like you and I think you need to adjust your straps up more .
What type of bra do you wear and what size. Since you've lost the weight have you had a bra fitting at a decent place ?

LooLightSerenade · 22/05/2026 19:18

@EmmaM84 With button shirts, have you tried buying the size that will fasten comfortably over your bust, and taking them in at the waist? It's quite easy to resew the side seams so it's narrower - put it on inside out and roughly pin it, then tack it, try it on the right way round, then if happy you can cut off the surplus and resew it properly. That's my amateur way of doing it, anyway, and it seems to work.

Teresa90 · 22/05/2026 19:20

I'm a similar shape and height. I bought two minimiser bras from M&S and they really do make me look less top heavy but are very comfortable.
I would also avoid non fitted tops that hang off the boobs as lve found they make me look huge in profile as my whole middle appears as big as my boobs all the way down iyswim. Caught my reflection once wearing such a top and l looked like a huge barrel.

Thanks everyone for your comments!

I started as a 16-18 4 stone ago! Now I’m in 12 bottoms but I’m still sometimes needing a 16-18 top which is heartbreaking 🥲 I think my boobs must be making me look huge still!

Don't worry about the size on the label. You look amazing. Slim with large boobs is something many, many women would love to be.

Maia77 · 22/05/2026 19:49

Size 16. Nice hourglass figure.

CheeseSandwich1 · 22/05/2026 19:56

The reason I posted was because I’ve struggled a lot with my weight (especially since having children).

I started my weight loss journey at a 34J (34 was tight) and now I’m a 30K-KK and still sometimes in a 16 top. I am quite small framed around my shoulders and back (always having to have tops and dresses altered) so the fact I look a size 16 is really upsetting after all my hard work.

I’ve also been pulled apart a lot in my past relationship to the point I feel like no one will want me, especially because I almost feel like my boobs look freakish. Unfortunately a private breast reduction is out of my price range at the moment and there’s no hope on the NHS really.

Thank you for all your lovely and helpful comments, I really appreciate it.

It's quite hard to judge from a photo, and it's your bust making you look a size 16, and your bust probably is that. You look slim but with a bust.

I dread to imagine what size I'd be estimated as.

You've had 7 pages of posters mainly saying you look terrific.

LarksAscending · 22/05/2026 20:14

You don’t look a size 16. You look a size 12 with large bust.

LaurieFairyCake · 22/05/2026 20:20

So I started with your figure 2 years ago after having giant boobs all my life. I’d also lost 4 stone by that point (surgery). I’m really short so I needed to lose a lot more weight.

I predict just like you will be, my boobs were the last to go 😂

but indeed they did go and I’ve gone from a 12 to a 6 (WLI) and maintained for over a year but for a while I had comedy boobs, size 32 H until eventually in the last stone they just disappeared

I’m only telling you this because for nearly 40 years I thought I was a big boobed person and underneath it all I wasn’t.

so lots of hope for you ahead 😊

LaurieFairyCake · 22/05/2026 20:21

And I’m now a 26E (they are so tiny!)

I hope this isn’t cheeky but can I ask what BMI you had to get down to before they disappeared?

I woke up one day in my teens with huge boobs 28FF and they’ve just got bigger since!

I went to the breast clinic for an unrelated issue and the doctor who examined me said my boobs were mostly breast tissue and not fat and therefore it’s unlikely they’d get much smaller without surgery? I don’t know how true this is!

Wrap dresses, ‘wiggle dresses’, bootcut jeans, v necks.

You look great!

LaurieFairyCake · 22/05/2026 21:14

Not at all cheeky? a BMI of 21.4 😊 7 stone 7 pounds.

I was told the same when they were trying to offer breast reduction.

LaurieFairyCake · 22/05/2026 21:15

I also have your hourglass figure, which is really helpful

andfinallyhereweare · 22/05/2026 21:28

16-18

tillyandmilly · 22/05/2026 21:35

Try a minimiser bra - they will reduce by 1 cup size they make you look slimmer up top - no padded bras etc
