14 weeks until beachy summer holiday. If I can lose a 1lb a week that's a stone by August.

As the title says. Hoping to lose a stone by August so that I am feeling better about myself on holiday.

The reality is I have 2.5 stone to lose all together but thought this would be a good first target.

I've just had a look at my fitness pal and I've literally been yo-yoing between 15.5 stone and 11.5 stone for over 5 years!!! I follow the same pattern. Get to 11/12ish stone. Feel better about myself. Begin badly eating again. Gain weight. Repeat.

I am currently 12 st 6lbs but this time last year was a stone lighter.. I don't want to be getting back up into the 15s so I'm determined to get myself back on track.

Therefore I'm going to weigh in here every Wednesday until August (to start with). Anyone is welcome to join me along the way.

I’m literally the same. I’m a couple of lbs heavier than you but would like to end up at 10stone. I am
aiming to get to 11 stone as I feel like that is a more realistic target.

My husband can lose weight very quickly but I’m struggling!

RaraRachael · 07/05/2025 09:47

I'm the same too. I seem to have been piling on weight around my middle and can't shift it. I don't eat rubbish and have started an indoor waling fitness thing.
My scales were broken on Sunday so I have no idea what I weigh.

I walk every day but nothing seems to shift this belly bulge.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/05/2025 11:07

I’d love to join you! I’ve been dithering around for about 2 years now, just losing and gaining the same stone and I’m noticing now that while my weight is basically the same, my shape is different. My waist is thickening and my thighs are huge. 😢 I’m a size 10-12 but I’ve just had to buy loads of 14 shorts on vinted because 12’s are now too tight on the thigh , but of course these looser waist sizes just make my middle look dreadful. Loads of my nicer summer things are a bit snug.

my goal is to cut out UPF and empty calories.
eat more veg and protein
cut my calories a bit to get a decent deficit.,
do Caroline girvan’s Iron programme (aiming to do it over 40 days)

last year when we went away I was 10,7, I’m now 11.3. I’m down 7lbs already this year but my weight fluctuates wildly, I range between 156lbs and 160 ish at the moment. We’re going abroad this year for the first time in 10 years so I would love to feel more comfortable in myself, I really dislike the way I look these days.

ThisOpenMauveLurker · 07/05/2025 11:11

I’ll join! Have acquired 4 stone quite rapidly since entering perimenopause, too many large portions, and losing my dog after 16 years of huge amounts of walking.

Keen to get 2 stone off quite quickly if I can, then I can increase activity again when I have less “baggage” to lug around 😆

Doing 16:8 focusing on

  • big salads
  • lean proteins
  • blueberries & strawberries
  • increasing water intake
  • no bread, pasta or baked treats because they bloat me dreadfully and make me crave more
  • 20 mins/day on my exercise bike

07/05/25: 14st 7

Hi everyone, thank you so much for joining me and for sharing your stories. Hopefully we can help each other stay motivated 😊

I would love to join. I'm 10st but 5ft 4" so I should be a lot less. I've been here before I was 11st 11Ib and got down to 9st 5Ib I started the weight loss journey in Jan 2022 was diagnosed type 2 diabetic that September but had lost a good bit of weight due to working out 5 times a week and eating better. I kept the weight off but since November I've gained and just can't get my head in the right place. My stomach is so bloated and huge.

Unfortunately I'm not one of the lucky ones to be put on ozempic. Instead I take 7 tablets a day for my diabetes 😒 plan for tomorrow is get up early and do some weights and skipping!

7/05/25: 10st

happysnail12 · 07/05/2025 17:21

I love your username @ilovetea14 I too love tea! You are very welcome. I'm only 5ft 3 myself so I'm aware that 10 stone is at the very top of my bmi. However, I know I feel healthy and happy at that weight so aiming for that initially. Although that's been my aim for the last 11 years (since eldest son was born!) And I've never got beyond the 11s before putting it all back on 🙈

@happysnail12 At my heaviest weight, all I wanted was to be 10st. I had tried and failed so many times. So when I got to 10th, I was so happy with myself that I said I'll try to push for more. The lowest I went was 9st 3Ib. I would like to be between 9st 5Ib /10st. I'm turning 42 and finding it harder to keep the weight off.

happysnail12 · 07/05/2025 21:49

Yes, I turned 40 in September and it's definitely harder to lose the lbs the older I get!

Hope everyone has a good day!
It’s such a nice time of year to be doing this with so many nice fresh veggies available.

RaraRachael · 08/05/2025 10:50

I cancelled my gym last year as I couldn't motivate myself to go ouf in horrible weather.
I'm trying this workout as it is easy and only takes 10 to 15 minutes.
Food is my biggest issue. I'm using some old Slimming World breakfast and lunch plans but until I get new scales I won't know if any of it's working.

14 weeks until beachy summer holiday. If I can lose a 1lb a week that's a stone by August.
TokyoSushi · 08/05/2025 10:54

Also have a similar target:

1/5/25: 12st 2
8/5/25: 11st 13

MonkeyTennis34 · 08/05/2025 11:06

Your yo-yoing is testament to the fact that dieting does not work.
Forget about following a regime.
Cut out the rubbish, cut down on UPFs (extremely difficult to cut them out completely imo), cut out/down on alcohol.
By doing that, I think you will lose a lb a week.
Good luck OP.

ilovetea14 · 08/05/2025 12:28

@RaraRachael I use to do loads of workouts with grow with Jo I loved it. I must start doing it again thanks for the reminder. I use to love the dance ones she did.

RaraRachael · 08/05/2025 12:38

@ilovetea14 I need things that are fun and easy to do in my own house

I'll have a look at Grow with Jo thanks

happysnail12 · 08/05/2025 16:19

Thanks for the exercise recommendations. I definitely want to be moving more again too. @MonkeyTennis34yes, I know. I have previously tried every diet under the sun and it definitely doesnt work long term. The worst thing about this time's weight gain is that I was in such a good head space before "going off the rails". It was all about mindful clean eating rather than restrictive calorie counting etc ane it workee. However, birthdays and holidays pulled me back into the craving for big portions of stodge and here we are again. No excuses and I know you are right, but I guess it's being able to overcome the emotional side of food and learning how to change patterns of self sabotage.

OP posts:
MonkeyTennis34 · 08/05/2025 17:15

@happysnail12
I couldn’t agree more re the emotional side of food/eating. It’s so hard.
If your poison is chocolate (it’s mine!) try eating 1 square of very dark chocolate every day…it’s really stopping me eat any other chocolate. Well, it’s been working for a week but I’ll take that!

Tiredbarbie · 08/05/2025 21:08

I would love to join please. I’ve been trying for the last couple of years to lose the weight but all I seem to have done is gained 😥 I’m just fed up of each event coming around that I really thought I’d have lost the weight for and I’m still here feeling so unhealthy. I’m currently 11 stone 10 but want to get down to about 10 stone ideally. The extra weight seems to go straight to my double chin and bum and makes me look huge whereas I think other people can ‘wear it’ so much better. I also have a holiday in august I’d love to feel confident for! I’m aiming to get more early nights/better sleep, drink more water, more walking every day and possibly a couple of dvd workouts. Im hoping if I make small changes to feel healthier it’ll make it easier to stop eating the rubbish, sugary food/crisps are my weakness. Looking forward to lots of success for us all!! X

happysnail12 · 08/05/2025 21:40

Welcome @Tiredbarbie glad to have you along for the ride.

@MonkeyTennis34 chocolate is not my main issue. Big portions and too many unhealthy carbs are my downfall generally. I just love bread! But it doesn't love me!

OP posts:
Sivelc3 · 08/05/2025 21:44

I’m joining please…. Am 5ft 2.5 and 10stone 10 and feel utterly rubbish. I’m turning 40 this year and finding it so hard to lose weight when I never have before. I’m loosely following slimming world which definitely works but not 100% in the right head space. I think joining here too and listening to others will help me and can help each other xx

RaraRachael · 08/05/2025 21:59

I feel awful about myself. I used to rarely be above 10 stone (5 foot 5) but I dread to think what I weigh now.

My vice is chocolate and I'm currently finishing up all the Easter choc.
Sorry @MonkeyTennis34 I can't follow your advice as I hate dark chocolate.

MonkeyTennis34 · 08/05/2025 22:01

@RaraRachael
I also hated dark chocolate but it does seem to hit the spot. I look forward to my 1 square a day!

RaraRachael · 11/05/2025 13:59

Well I weighed myself this morning and am 11.4 - the heaviest I've ever been in my life - even when I was pregnant!

I tried on some summer dresses from last year and they all clung to my belly, my jeans and shorts won't do up. The only things that looked decent were baggy dresses.

I'm determined not to buy a bigger size so want to lose at least a stone before Croatia in Early August.

happysnail12 · 11/05/2025 14:29

Well done for facing the scales @RaraRachael sometimes that's the first step. I often avoid weighing myself when I know I'm not going to like the number looking back at me. Even though the reality is clothes aren't fitting and I know I've gained. Anyway, we've got this 💪 keep going and we'll be feeling better by August. I've just ordered a new swimming costume as motivation!!

Thanks @happysnail12. It's great to know there are similar people out there. I'm going to cut out carbs as far as possible and have already had a nice long walk as it's such a beautiful day.
