Hi all

I just thought I'd start this thread and add to it everyday as I think I struggle to figure out what to have for meals when losing weight - just thought it might help someone.

(At the moment I'm tending to have like 2 meals a day but sometimes 3 - there's no rules haha)

Breakfast

Cornflakes and semi skimmed milk with a cup of tea - 390 calories.

Half a protein bar - 70 calories.

Burger bowl - 447 calories - this was absolutely amazing, genuinely like a Big Mac haha and here's the recipe for anyone else who fancies it.. I changed it slightly.

125g - Mince beef - 155 kcal
110g - Baking potatoes - 118 kcal
17g - Cheese - 46 Kcal
20g - Ketchup - 21 kcal
20g - Mayo - 67 kcal
10g - Mustard - 9 kcal
Total 422 Kcals

Total around 907 calories which is way too low, I have about 600 left but I don't feel too good today, might have a snack later.

Please feel free to share your foods and recipes!

B: Pink lady with peanut butter
L: Thai chicken soup and protein bagel thin with edam
T: Thai green chicken curry and rice (didn’t plan the double Thai chicken, just disorganisation on my part!)
S: Hopefully nothing. I feel like I’ve been snacking non stop the last couple of weeks. There’s loads of treats in the office too, so I’m really going to try and resist.
1440 for the day

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/04/2025 17:53

Really struggling this week. My period is due and I’m really tired and cranky. I started a new job on Monday and I’ve had last night and tonight out socially, it’s all just a bit much tbh 🤣

I’m ending up on 1250 calories today, which isn’t bad except for I haven’t actually had any dinner! So most of that is grazing on cereal bars and bits during the day. Not ideal. I went for a run and I felt totally spent, not fit at all. I’m hoping it’s just cycle related.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 04/04/2025 21:45

That’s a lot to be contending with @thenewaveragebear1983 , be forgiving with yourself and try get some nourishing food in when you can.

I have family visiting so all bets are off here. Skipping breakfast as damage limitation but lunch today was all sorts from Borough Market, and dinner was a curry. But no major blow outs and no snacks, fwiw. And lots of steps done! Let’s see how tomorrow goes.

Dottycotton86 · 04/04/2025 22:14

I’m doing an coaching plan.. it’s my 7th week check in day tomorrow. I have had whey shake, mince and veg for lunch, 4 eggs, fish, rice and broccoli for tea and Greek yogurt for pudding! I’m starving 😂

Dottycotton86 · 04/04/2025 22:17

Minikievs · 02/04/2025 10:56

Out for lunch today at a small coffee shop so I suspect the only offerings will be panini/sandwiches or soup. Bread makes me blow up like a barrage balloon so I’ll probs go for soup.
Tea will be some yellow stickered M&S ham and cheese croquettas with salad.
I don’t think calories will be too bad but my protein intake will be dreadful.
What does everyone else do in this situation? Overdo the calories in order to keep the protein at a better level, or stick with the deficit and not worry about protein for the day?
I’m mid 40s so protein is a “thing” for me but I do struggle on low calorie days sometimes with trying to balance it all

Protein shakes, chicken and lean red meat but small portions

Cuwins · 05/04/2025 21:36

Much better day today.
B- Coffee, 1 slice of toast, poached egg x2 and tomatoes- 440
L- Ham roll, 2x chicken gyozas, green pepper and lentil crisps- 375
D- Sticky beef mince stir fry with rice- 500
Snacks- Carrot, 2 crackers with light cheese, dark chocolate peppermint almonds x7- 360

Highly recommend the dark chocolate peppermint almonds!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/04/2025 21:56

@Cuwinsdark chocolate peppermint almonds sound very nice indeed!

I ended up in a small deficit today. Around 1600 cals, although within that there was a lot of bread. I am still feeling very tired, and not really 100%.

GildedRage · 05/04/2025 22:35

B toast (35gms) butter, boiled egg, and 1/2 an orange.
L rice wrap, lettuce, ham, cheese and red pepper and a cup of tomato soup
S will be a brat sausage (no bun) and some home made fries (i'm only cutting up one large russet between the two of us so not a large portion) all this because it is my dh's birthday and i will have 1/2 a slice of cake. yes the supper menu was his choice he's having his brat with sauerkraut and bun.
the food choices are not too difficult at this point but i'm failing on the "exercise" front.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/04/2025 21:18

food choices were pretty dire last week, no idea how but I lost 1/2 a pound. I’ll take that as I dont think i deserve it really!

today-no breakfast
black coffees
milk in 2 teas
lunch- 2 eggs, 30g cheese, chorizo
small piece of carrot cake (no icing)
apple and satsuma
Sprite Zero
leftover lamb roast dinner- lots of veg
sugar free jelly with mandarins

Around 1200 cals
ran 5km and walked the dog 3.5km

Cuwins · 07/04/2025 23:11

B- home made air fryer Granola and natural yogurt, coffee- 340
L- Tuna and tomato pasta- 400
D- Dirty rice- 470
Snack- Lentil chips, satsuma, muller light, dark choc mint almonds and a couple of biscuits

Tomorrow is not going to be a great day as I’m taking the young lady I’m working with (I’m a carer) to Harvester for lunch.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 08/04/2025 05:12

Overseas visitors and now a holiday here, with the expected effect. Mititgating by skipping breakfast and trying to stick to some sort of window.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 08/04/2025 22:46

I probably broke even today rather than came in a deficit, but it was my office day and usually on a Tuesday I go waaay overboard so I’m really pleased just to have not done that 👍 I’m all planned for a good day in deficit tomorrow. I am determined for a loss this week.

Minikievs · 09/04/2025 15:08

Yesterday was Greek yoghurt and protein granola with berries,
Bol protein power red pepper and lentil soup with protein bagel thin
Chicken breast with Mexican rice and green veg
Three dates with peanut butter
1570 for the day. I should’ve left the dates really but I’m not going to beat myself up. It’s not like it was an Easter egg!

Today has been Green yoghurt and protein pancakes with strawberries, the rest of the Bol soup and a protein bagel thin. Snacks have been a satsuma and a pear. Oh and a glass of chocolate Alpro protein milk.
That comes to 1050.
A friend is cooking dinner tonight so I won’t be able to log properly although I’ve “guesstimated”
lasagne and salad and garlic bread. I’m going to try and ignore the garlic bread, otherwise I think it’ll be a 900 dinner and that’ll take me to almost 2000 😳

Minikievs · 09/04/2025 15:08

I think I need to join another thread as I’m not sure I’m technically actually ever in a deficit 😂

thenewaveragebear1983 · 09/04/2025 16:14

@Minikievsthe only way I can end up in deficit is if I aim really low (eg 800/900 cals) then I sometimes end up on 1100-1200 ish. If I aim for my actual target, I end up over. Every damn time 🤦‍♀️

Froum · 09/04/2025 17:59

Had cravings like crazy (time of month) so ate VERY unbalanced.

Breakfast
Cheese and crackers with hot sauce x3
Two tablespoons of nutella
Homemade strawberry smoothie (Greek yoghurt)

Lunch
Jacket potato with cottage cheese and a lot of hot sauce
5/6 pickled chillis, olives

Snack
Peanut butter toast and banana
Apple
rice cracker with hot sauce
tablespoon of boursin x2

Dinner
Cheesy scrambled eggs with veg and spicy salsa
dollop of sour cream and hot sauce
pickled jalapeños

I’ve made life harder for myself by not giving myself filling meals and wasting calories on a few mouthfuls here and there.

Trying to call it a day (fingers crossed)

I just went to keep putting savoury, pickled, spicy food in my gob!

GildedRage · 09/04/2025 18:28

@Minikievs even if only one meal is/was a lower calorie choice it's a step towards your goal. So feel free to post some mini meal ideas that might inspire others.
DH made cheese biscuits for breakfast (jalapeño and cheddar) I requested a small one be made for me, he made all of them 1/2 size :), i had that with a half pear.
calorie wise okay but not the fiber i absolutely need.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 09/04/2025 20:24

I ended up on 1147 cals today

black coffees
milk in 3 teas
activia rhubarb yoghurt with apple slices, blueberries, raspberries and a tiny sprinkle of granola
lunch-,good guys crackers, 2 babybel, half a plate of green salad with balsamic dressing and 5 cherry toms
dinner- chicken breast, stir fry veg, yo sushi katsu curry sauce
sugar free jelly

I ran 5.5km and walked 3k with the dog

Minikievs · 10/04/2025 11:32

@GildedRageYoure right! Today’s lower choice is my tea of chilli con carne, made with turkey mince, sofrito, mushrooms, half a brown rice microwave pouch and some green veg.
Only 500 calories and freezes really well too Smile
Am also very happy with my lunch today-bagel thin with smoked salmon and scrambled egg with cherry tomatoes.
If I can avoid the snacks, it’s a successful deficit day!

GildedRage · 11/04/2025 02:26

i skipped breakfast and didn't overeat lunch or supper.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 11/04/2025 06:47

No deficit for me yesterday, I ended up having fish and chips for dinner.

today- skip breakfast / black coffee
lunch- tuna and salad
dinner- teriyaki chicken drumsticks and salad/veg

Froum · 11/04/2025 11:20

Breakfast:

  • eggs, pico de gallo
  • green veg juice
  • kimchi

Lunch:

  • Leftover chicken shish (done on bbq)
  • salad
  • chilli sauce

Snack:

  • olives and hummus on rice cake with hot sauce
  • berries and Greek yoghurt

Dinner:

  • salmon and caeser salad

Was very good. Put on my wedding dress and looked horrendous. Put the fear of god into me. Only four months to go

Grateful for the warm weather. So nice to eat my meals outside with the sun beating down on me. Salads are so much more satisfying when the weather is pleasant

1360 calories plus 90 min of dog walking

GildedRage · 13/04/2025 17:17

i have company staying at our home, and knew today would involve one meal out.
breakfast 1/2 my usual serving size so one fruit filled crepe
lunch was eaten at the restaurant which had nutritional info online so an 800calorie chicken quesadilla
supper skipped the main and had a 1/2 slice of birthday cake.
i was actually impressed that i wasn't hungry through out the night.
it may not be a deficit kind of day but i'm pleased with my choices.

Froum · 13/04/2025 19:01

breakfast:
scrambled eggs, smoked salmon and a few slices of avocado

lunch:
tuna salad and a slice of toast

dinner:
leftover turkey chilli in a stuffed pepper (resisted not grating cheese on top)

snacks:
1/2 homemade lemon and blueberry muffin by niece made
banana with a tiny bit of nutella

feel okay about the day of eating, probably didn’t need the muffin but they smelled and were amazing

NameChangeAgainandOncemore · 13/04/2025 19:10

Lunch was massive salad and Greek yogurt
50g of trail mix

Dinner leftover risotto and veg
Snacks:
Orange, apple, carrot, celery, cucumber
Evening yoghurt and blueberries

So hungry, probably gone over. Always tricky at weekend
