Hi all

I just thought I'd start this thread and add to it everyday as I think I struggle to figure out what to have for meals when losing weight - just thought it might help someone.

(At the moment I'm tending to have like 2 meals a day but sometimes 3 - there's no rules haha)

Breakfast

Cornflakes and semi skimmed milk with a cup of tea - 390 calories.

Half a protein bar - 70 calories.

Burger bowl - 447 calories - this was absolutely amazing, genuinely like a Big Mac haha and here's the recipe for anyone else who fancies it.. I changed it slightly.

125g - Mince beef - 155 kcal
110g - Baking potatoes - 118 kcal
17g - Cheese - 46 Kcal
20g - Ketchup - 21 kcal
20g - Mayo - 67 kcal
10g - Mustard - 9 kcal
Total 422 Kcals

Total around 907 calories which is way too low, I have about 600 left but I don't feel too good today, might have a snack later.

Please feel free to share your foods and recipes!

Went way over yesterday as we did our Mother’s Day meal last night. I ended up on just over 2000 calories.
I am definitely noticing that my appetite and capacity is decreased though, from several weeks of lower calories. I definitely felt myself really full at around 1500, although I did continue to eat as my boys had chosen and prepared the food. But my body naturally wanted to curb it at around that level. Interesting….

I’ve noticed this as well - I don’t know what my body wants to stop at but I’m not finishes meals like I used to well certain meals.

I used to have a large order at McDonald’s Big Mac, chicken nuggets and chips etc

yesterday I only got chicken nuggets and chips and I couldn’t even finish the chips

Cuwins · 30/03/2025 12:48

Weighed myself this morning and I have lost 3.5 pounds since Monday when I started logging my calories so really pleased with that. I’m having a day off today as it’s Mother’s Day and we are ordering pizza later

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/03/2025 20:01

Small calorie deficit today if I don’t take my exercise calories into account.

I had 2 sausages after my run
milk in 2 cups of tea
dinner was chicken thighs tray bake with tikka spices, tomatoes and brocolli
we made short bread, I counted it all properly and have tracked it

ending up on 1300 calories
I did run 15km on top of that so that’s increased my deficit by a big chunk but I’m not eating my exercise calories so that’s just banked 👍

TheWayTheLightFalls · 30/03/2025 20:39

Today was tricky because the fridge was empty, so hard to put a decent meal together.

B - two fried eggs, lots of mushrooms
L - grilled chicken, quick-pickled cabbage (about the only veg in the fridge!), konjac noodles, a very calorific spicy mayo dressing.

S - 93 cal choc bar, coffees.

Skipping dinner, so effectively an 18h fast until I eat tmrw morning.

GeorgiesCat · 31/03/2025 09:58

How’s everyone doing ? My weights almost at the same starting point but I’m am on my period ffs

That was me - it’s been dropping off since I came off my period.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 31/03/2025 11:07

Likewise re periods - I weigh daily and on my period there's weight gain even if I eat well. Not to mention that I am more likely to eat an extra chocolate or whatever.

Today: B - eggs scrambled
L: BOL veg curry.

Dinner likely to also be a ready meal type. If I get my act together I'm make a lentil dahl instead.

ah that probably explains me loosing 3.5lbs since Monday and Saturday. Given I started my period on Tuesday! Oh well hopefully it has given me motivation to continue

Minikievs · 31/03/2025 12:46

Weigh in day today. Lost 0.5lbs which although minimal, I’m very pleased with, as looking at my last week or so I was basically eating over my maintenance calories. I think my exercise has saved me.
My BF is away next weekend so I’ll have a better weekend too as less popping to the pub for a pint and a packet of crisps halfway through the dog walk.
Hoping for a good day today:
L : Greek yoghurt with protein granola and berries
T : Leftover Mother’s Day roast beef and trimmings
S : Dates with peanut butter, a satsuma and a pear

1400 for the day

thenewaveragebear1983 · 31/03/2025 15:15

It was my weigh in day today, I lost 1/2 a pound, I do genuinely believe I deserved more, I had a really good week. I think it’s a hit of water retention as I have really heavy legs and DOMS from the gym and then running. I think Monday is the worse day to weigh as well. I will also weigh tomorrow as it’s 1st April so will be interesting to see how much water I drop before then!

calorie deficit today, will end up on around 900 cals.
no breakfast
black coffee
milk in 2 teas
broccoli and Stilton soup and two little piece (34g) sourdough toast
piece of homemade shortbread- 139 calories
dinner will be simply cook beef Thai massaman curry with loads of sugar Snap peas and broccoli

Doesn’t seem like a lot of food does it really? 🤔

Cuwins · 31/03/2025 18:00

Breakfast- 1 slice of toast, 1 poached egg, rocket and tomato- 280
Lunch- 2 slices of pizza left from last night and half an apple- 690
Dinner- Slow cooker roast chicken, air fryer roast potatoes, cabbage, carrots and gravy- 440
Yogurt after dinner- 100
Later will probably have a cup of tea and a couple of biscuits

ilovebagpuss · 31/03/2025 22:25

Well a better day today after a slightly calorific day on Sunday.
No breakfast
Lunch was a brown roll with turkey and a packet of Aldi hula hoops and a few cherry toms 400
Dinner was bolognaise pasta bake and a youghurt 700
Few grapes 100
1200

thenewaveragebear1983 · 01/04/2025 18:17

1250 for me today,

breakfast- 2 hb eggs
black coffee
milk in 2 teas
asda Harrissa chicken ready meal (gym kitchen copy, 360 cals and really nice)
Fruit
jelly pot with berries
piece of shortbread when I got home
homemade chicken and sweet potato tikka
brocolli

TheWayTheLightFalls · 01/04/2025 20:03

Meh day today.

B - none
L - grilled chicken on a bed of salad
D - mushrooms with garlic and spinach

S - biscuit, biltong, apple

Neither meal really hit the spot. Glad I made my own rather than ready meals but neither especially satisfying.

Resisted ice cream when I bought some for my kids in the park, so that was something.

Cuwins · 01/04/2025 20:13

No breakfast today which is unusual for me so big lunch- pasta with tomato sauce and cheese- 577
Snack- 7 fruit pastilles
Dinner- small baked potato with tuna mayo and cheese, rocket and cucumber- 477

Then cup of tea a rather more of my Mother’s Day after eights than I should have had but still under calories due to the missed meal. However far to much sugar today

femsrad · 01/04/2025 20:18

Coffee and an egg for breakfast
Leftover meatballs for lunch
Chicken salad for dinner
sugar free jelly
left over Mother’s Day chocolates
Doing WW so no idea what the calories are but 23 points.

Not the most inventive day, but it did the trick!

Minikievs · 02/04/2025 10:56

Out for lunch today at a small coffee shop so I suspect the only offerings will be panini/sandwiches or soup. Bread makes me blow up like a barrage balloon so I’ll probs go for soup.
Tea will be some yellow stickered M&S ham and cheese croquettas with salad.
I don’t think calories will be too bad but my protein intake will be dreadful.
What does everyone else do in this situation? Overdo the calories in order to keep the protein at a better level, or stick with the deficit and not worry about protein for the day?
I’m mid 40s so protein is a “thing” for me but I do struggle on low calorie days sometimes with trying to balance it all

I struggle with this too - whether to minimise calories or perfect my macros. I’m probably drinking too many protein shakes at the moment…

happytobemrsg · 02/04/2025 13:23

Brilliant thread. I’m roughly at the weight I want to be but it easily creeps back on because I’m rubbish at portion sizes. Reading for ideas.

Argh. I would just count calories tbh. For one day that would feel right. I am terrible at counting macros etc so not sure I am the person to listen to!

TheWayTheLightFalls · 02/04/2025 17:21

Didn’t cover myself in glory today - two ready meals, one sugar donut. Within calories I think, at least.

Wednesdays are always tricky for me because my work involves mountains of pastries, delicious food etc.

Tomorrow should involve actual vegetables…

thenewaveragebear1983 · 02/04/2025 19:37

No deficit for me today, I ended up eating a big bar of cadburys and that was after maxing my calories! I’ve had a long busy week and it’s only Wednesday!

I’m hoping to start tomorrow with a nice run as I haven’t been since Sunday. And then back on track.

Bad day here too. Not been feeling well at all and ended up eating more than half my Mother’s Day after eights. Oh well try again tomorrow

thenewaveragebear1983 · 02/04/2025 20:12

@Cuwinswe can try again tomorrow. To be fair it’s not been a great week all told, and today I just had such strong chocolate cravings that I thought in the end it’s stupid to spend all night fighting it. I actually feel a lot better for it.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 03/04/2025 09:29

Better start today- porridge with apples, cinnamon and a bit of sugar for B, planning grilled chicken with couscous and veg for lunch.
