What we ate today in a calorie deficit thread

Hi all

I just thought I'd start this thread and add to it everyday as I think I struggle to figure out what to have for meals when losing weight - just thought it might help someone.

(At the moment I'm tending to have like 2 meals a day but sometimes 3 - there's no rules haha)

Breakfast

Cornflakes and semi skimmed milk with a cup of tea - 390 calories.

Half a protein bar - 70 calories.

Burger bowl - 447 calories - this was absolutely amazing, genuinely like a Big Mac haha and here's the recipe for anyone else who fancies it.. I changed it slightly.

125g - Mince beef - 155 kcal
110g - Baking potatoes - 118 kcal
17g - Cheese - 46 Kcal
20g - Ketchup - 21 kcal
20g - Mayo - 67 kcal
10g - Mustard - 9 kcal
Total 422 Kcals

Total around 907 calories which is way too low, I have about 600 left but I don't feel too good today, might have a snack later.

Today I had:
no breakfast,
2 black coffees
3 tea with milk
banana and protein shake
salad with mixed beans, feta cheese and balsamic dressing
chichen thighs with lemon and herbs, brocolli
an apple
a satsuma

it’s about 900 cals and 70g carbs. I’m doing fast800 but I ran 10km earlier so I am STARVING and I might need to have something extra tonight. Better to factor it in properly than end up grazing

Today was going so well and then I accidentally fell into the guacamole. It happens avocado 🥑
Breakfast, toast and peanut butter 200
Lunch: Crosta & Mollica pizzetta and salad 600
Dinner: chicken fajitas with salad, guacamole and fresh chillies 900. Should have been 600 for 2 but then the third hopped in!

Snacks were coffees and a rocket ice lolly 100
brings me to 1800 rather than 1500 I had planned

Grilled mushrooms, egg and toast for breakfast -300ish.

This gorgeous pulled pork and salads for lunch and again for dinner, I was so happy with myself I took a photo.

Biscuit x 2, 230ish.

From yesterday, but I'm having the same today:
Fried egg with a small slice of sourdough bread, toasted amd buttered
3x mugs of tea

Flour tortilla with natural crunchy peanut butter

2 cups of baby spinach tossed with olive oil and balsamic dressing, S&P, dried cranberries, crumbled blue cheese, and half a chicken breast, cut in cubes

Half a homemade cocoa brownie

40 ozs water

All came to 1153 calories according to MFP

Oh I might join in if that’s ok.
I was always really skinny until about 7 years ok when it started to creep up and then I had my daughter 3 years ago and it rocketed after.
Now I need to loose about 40lbs.
Snacking is my downfall particularly carbs and sweets. Also takeaways but when I do resist this and cook at home our meals are pretty healthy.
Unusually while pregnant I managed to loose weight! I had gestational diabetes and the low carb/high protein and little sugar really seemed to agree with me.
So now I’m planning to try to lower my carbs, increase my protein and watch the calories. However we still eat families meals so it won’t be strictly low carb, just lower than I was having.

Today:
Breakfast- egg muffins x3 (100 cal each), coffee and milk
Lunch- crackers and marmite, ham and cucumber
Dinner- Beef Goulash and rice

I did end up eating a chocolate flapjack at the park earlier though so that wasn’t good.
I will have a cup of tea and some biscuits once DD is in bed- doesn’t sound great but having a few biscuits then stops me eating a sharing pack of Haribo or a tube of Pringles which I was doing!

My aim is 1800 calories (I’m aiming for a slow but maintainable loss) but not going to kick myself over up to 2000. Today is about 1900 so not ideal but not awful either

i have eaten a bit more than planned today, or rather, not planned! Which is why I ate more!

breakfast- cooked chicken, handful of blueberries
lunch- bean salad, more chicken, 5 cherry toms, mini pot of houmous
dinner- son has made bolognese, will have mine with just cheese and veg.
also had- Greek yogurt and 4 strawberries. A pear. 25g sachet of mixed nuts.

total cals around 1250, carbs 61

Another hard to quantify day, argh.

No breakfast, small cake with coffee at 10am, Asian beef with konjac noodles and veg for lunch, same for dinner. Zillions of apples and cups of coffee.

Bit more generous calorie allowance today as it’s Friday!

no breakfast
lunch was a slice of baked oats, some super thick Greek yoghurt, raspberries
dinner- lamb steak, griddled veg

I also had a supermarket triple chocolate cookie, it was ok but not really amazing.

ending up on 1300 cals, pushing 100g carbs

started today with peanut butter on toast so at least a protein hit! Lunch is ham salad sandwich (more bread but am 98% bread by now so it is what it is) some ready salted french fries and dinner is Cajun chicken, whole grain rice and salad

utterly uninspiring use of 1100

Just had lunch and it’s not even noon, whoops.

No breakfast, then poached chicken in a ramen style broth with pak choi, cauliflower, edamame beans.

Likely similar for dinner.

My weight loss has been really annoying this month but I’ve sticked to a deficit and lost 8.3 pounds this month and hoping for another loss next week as well

The problem with tracking every single pound, and daily weighing, is it’s disheartening when the number goes up, even slightly. I might try weekly. Or twice weekly.

I’ve stuck to no snacks, low calorie and high protein but perhaps portions need to shrink slightly. It’s hard when you get to the evening meal and feel hungry!

If you don't know it already, the (free) app Happy Scale is great. You log your weight and it then shows you overall trends, so the gains are put into context. I weigh daily and really like it.

I quite like seeing the blowout meal = higher weight the next day stuff too, makes it clearer to see what leads to weight gains for me.

I lost 2.5lbs last week, that’s a big loss for me. I’m currently sat here absolutely starving, I was waiting for my shopping delivery but I’ve had to relent and stick a freezer portion in the microwave!

b- black coffee
L - ratatouille and leftover cooked gammon
d- liver and bacon and loads of veg. (I very occasionally get a real hankering for liver and onions, the family will not eat it)

i'm poking along so i thought i'd share my food choices.
3 meals plus one snack at 3pm
today's breakfast: (180 cal) 30gms of chia seeds, 1/2 cup of unsweetened vanilla almond milk 65gms of strawberries. it sets up to a nice pudding texture within 30 minutes or so. no cooking and high in fiber which i need.
lunch: (200 cal) 1/2 a bell pepper (yellow orange or red), 30gms of cream cheese, 30gms of sliced ham and lettuce (eaten like a mini open faced sandwich) with celery carrots cherry tomatoes cucumber and dill pickles on the side.
supper not yet calculated chicken, scalloped potatoes and a salad. almost always 500 cal after supper treat of 2 small cookies which are 130 cal.

snack, tea with milk and 1oz cheddar cheese

black tea or water between meals.

Back to the land of the living but a measly 1lb off this morning 🤦🏼‍♀️ 4 weeks to go until hol!

B - Skyr, oats, blueberries and honey (300kc)
L - Red pepper soup with cheese on toast (500kc)
D - Cajun chicken wraps and sweet potato fries (700kc)

coffee and water the rest of the day for 1500 finish

Sometimes I snack if I need it, or we’re eating later. I eat in an 8 hour window usually 10-6 so by the time I have breakfast at 10, Lunch at 12:30 and dinner at 5, unless I need some sort of pick me up at 3ish to get me through the school run, my eating is spaced out enough that I don’t really get hungry for more than coffee

2 pieces ciabattin sourdough toast with cashew butter

Slice homemade banana cake

2 hard boiled eggs, tuna mayo, rocket, mixed seeds

Some cashews and walnuts

Veggie chilli, creme fraiche, jalapenos, grated cheese. No rice or wraps.

2 squares dark chocolate

Approx 1800 cals

Today was a ciabatta with sausage, peppers and rocket for breakfast, and a kit kat; then a steak and salad for lunch. Kitchen closed 2pm.

Oh my goodness. I could not stop eating for the day at 2pm. How do you feel when you do that? Not really peckish at dinner time and into the evening?
