Hi

As my user name says this summer the Ryan Air seatbelt did not fit.
Yesterday I had to sit on a wooden deck chair and I found myself trying to Google what the weight limit could be

So tomorrow I start a diet.
So many threads on Mumsnet are for people much smaller than me
I'm 18 stones and 5lbs.

Please feel free to join if you are seriously overweight, please don't join if you are just averagely fat.

Afternoon! I'm 5ft 6 and 17st 11. I really need to find some motivation and will power from somewhere.

Minnie888 · 12/09/2024 07:20

Week 1 in and lost 4.4lb this morning which I am pleased with. Probably will be more than normal with is being week 1. I've found sticking to a plan helps make choices as I only have a certain number of 'points' per day so can't have those treats without going over.

Some people go the full length and use that cooking spray, or lots of protein substitutes but I don't know want to do that. I just want to eat 'normal' food but get the balance right over amount of snacks and portion size which was / is my downfall.....

SeatbeltExtender · 12/09/2024 07:52

I had an awful day yesterday. No will power
So I will try again today

I had a bad day yesterday too, starting again today.

unmemorableusername · 12/09/2024 09:04

Over 15st here.

I'm an emotional eater.

When things are hard I turn to food. It's a comforter. I tell myself at least it's not drugs!

TheNuthatch · 12/09/2024 09:07

I'll join 👋
I'm 15stone 8lbs as of this morning and only short so I hope that qualifies me? I need some motivation! I think I've tried every diet there is!
Life/work/kids are all very chaotic and stressful at the moment which makes me comfort eat. Things should start to calm down next week so I'm hoping to make some changes. I find it easier to lose weight in the colder months. I've already stopped drinking, trying to get more sleep and swapped 3 coffees for decaf. I will be getting the slow cooker out next week so I know there's a healthy meal ready no matter what the day throws at me!
DC3 is off school ill today, and DOG2 had surgery yesterday so I'm WFH today. Gonna try and eat 3 filling but healthy meals, and nothing but fruit in-between.

I'm a bit of an odd one but here goes! I had bariatric surgery and lost 10 stone. I then regained 2 and that 2 has been bouncing on and off ever since. I currently weigh 17 stone 1 pound so I am still obese.

The problem is I still have Crohn's disease and PCOS which means injections are a no for me and dieting is difficult. I was told that I only need 800 calories a day and over that will mean an increase.

I used to be much more active and even did 2 half marathons but I am more of a hermit since covid. I do need to stop that.

I am a primary teacher currently waiting out my redundancy time before hopefully starting a new job. I need to eat less rubbishy snacks and get back to walking every day. I can do it.

Responding as I feel like the only obese person with Crohn's Disease in the world!

SeatbeltExtender · 12/09/2024 13:17

Today is going much better than yesterday
Cheese salad sandwich, crisps and a yoghurt.

I'm going out straight from work so I need something very quick to eat later. I need to make sure I don't stuff my face with chocolate and crisps when I'm pushed for time.

EvangelineFox · 12/09/2024 23:58

@SeatbeltExtender I need to learn from your reminder to pack healthy snacks, ended up at McDonalds earlier with the DC as we were so pushed for time between two of their activities Blush

@Minnie888 you can buy spray bottles and fill them with your own olive oil, if that would help? I had two and the DC broke both in quick succession Sad so now I just try to use a tiny bit of oil!

Orangesandlemons77 · 13/09/2024 05:10

Thiinking about that article I linked to, I am going to try swimming or walking for at least half an hour each day. I'm not really looking forward to it but think it might be good.

SeatbeltExtender · 13/09/2024 07:04

@Orangesandlemons77
It would be great if you could. Even if you don't diet/lose weight

I just can't seem to find the energy after work and I have an early start too.
I'm going to have to sort something though. I'm 55 and very stiff.

How is everyone's weekend going so far?

I can't say I'm actively dieting but I'm not bingeing so that's a win for me.

I also managed a lot of walking yesterday. Slow walking but out in the sunshine

OP posts:
poopoobarneymcgrew · 15/09/2024 08:55

Would love to join up with you guys I'm 5'2" and at least 17 stone I'm 56 and it's really impacting on my day to day activity

EvangelineFox · 15/09/2024 11:13

@SeatbeltExtender I'm trying to make the most of the nice weather by getting outside when I can. I mean I love autumn but keep reminding myself that it'll be chilly/ rainy/ muddy before we know it! My DP is now 25 stone - I mean he's 6'2", but still! - he keeps moaning about how he's tired, unfit etc so I often suggest that we go out for a walk. This causes SO MUCH MOANING you would not believe Confused and I just think, why tell me that you want to lose weight and get healthy if all you actually want to do is sit on your bum and only get off it to eat meals?! And he'll then complain that he's "eaten too much" and is "far too full", despite him eating his portion and then snaffling any of the DC's leftovers that he can. Sigh...

@poopoobarneymcgrew welcome Smile

chalkyc2 · 15/09/2024 13:02

OP and all - I'm just popping in to say hi. I started 18 months ago at 18.5 stone (at 5'4" 😬😬). I'm currently about 11.5 and trying to ditch the last stone. I get the feeling helpless and awful and the endless starting and failing.

I did the Fast 800 plan. For 12 weeks I followed it pretty much to the letter with the app and switching around meals. No booze, no bread,rice,pasta. No sugar. It's pretty grim but it does work and once you start losing it is motivating. I think the focus required to plan meals kind of keeps you on track too - it's not just eat a bit less so oops there goes a biscuit and some cheese and crackers. After the first 12 weeks I kind of just kept going but I've relaxed a bit over the summer and need to switch back on.

Anyway. I hope this is even a bit helpful. I'm off to find a 'lose the last stone or two' thread but good luck.

SeatbeltExtender · 15/09/2024 14:00

@chalkyc2

How much did you lose in 12 weeks.

That roughly between now and Christmas

I did join at about £100 a few years ago but like most of my diets it never got going.

OP posts:
chalkyc2 · 15/09/2024 14:04

Nearly 3 stone in the 12 weeks. It starts off quick then slows.

I do think it kind of requires you to be at rock bottom and for your personality to like rules!!

I started adding in more exercise as I lost weight and it got easier to move (and less humiliating)....

SeatbeltExtender · 15/09/2024 14:11

@chalkyc2 do you feel better?

I lost 3 stones a few years back. I felt no better ( probably because I still had another 3 to go) but I do feel worse now I've gained it ( and more) all back.

Hi, I am now the biggest ive ever been, 5ft5inch & 19 stone. 6 years ago I went from over 16 stone to 10st 7lbs through calorie counting and 1 hours exercise and daily walking.
My mental health went really bad after through lots of things & i'm only just beging to feel right with my mental health.
Brought a cross trainer in April, finally found the energy to go on it this week and after 17 minutes on it ive gone and broke it (I could cry).
Been on diet now 4 days, done over 10,000 steps outdoors everyday.
My goal is to get to 17stone or under hopefully before christmas.
@chalkyc2 well done!
@SeatbeltExtender great thread x

chalkyc2 · 15/09/2024 14:30

I definitely feel better now. I'd say however the first 3 stone barely anyone noticed and although I felt slimmer and my clothes started fitting it was tip of the iceberg really. We went on holiday about 4 months in at 3.5 stone and I did a few little runs and did have to buy some new clothes.

I now feel like a normal size, and can buy clothes from normal shops in a size 12 mostly. I don't feel embarrassed that I'm taking up too much space on the train. It's all the little things really. I also started playing a sport I hadn't done since having kids when I was 4 stone down.

I just now need to finish the job which is proving a bit harder than it should....

Billybiscuit · 15/09/2024 14:42

Also i'm 40 next year, this is a big motivator for me to lose weight this year.
Also i've broke a few deck chairs this summer and i'm fed up of being the largest person when out and about, waiting in the dentist reception this week I felt massive compared to all the other people.
So far today i've had porridge with honey and multiseed mix topping, and a chicken wrap with a small amout of rice for dinner.

SeatbeltExtender · 16/09/2024 12:48

Today I weigh 18stones 4lbs

I can be much stricter with myself. I'd like to lose 2 stones and 5lbs by Christmas.
Then I'll have 15 as a start number.

OP posts:
Billybiscuit · 16/09/2024 13:09

I went doctors today to change my prescription of iron to liquid iron as my iron is very low.
Going to go for a walk in a minute as only done 8122 steps so far and its13:05hrs. Had a nice healthy breakfast of porridge again this morning with multiseed on.
I'm going to be weighing myself once a month from today and post my monthly weight here.

Letsbe · 16/09/2024 13:44

@SeatbeltExtender Well done for deciding to make a change. I hope you are going to to be kind to yourself and realistic. Well done if you can lose that level but for me that would not be realistic.

For me the weight crept on about a stone a year. So I figure if I lose a stone by Christmas that's excellent. It may take me a year or longer to get it all off but that's ok for me. I am also trying to eat slower, Sometimes I eat so fast I barely taste it. So I try to put my fork down between bites and just really enjoy it. I find that way I feel fuller sooner and realise I do not really want the shepherds pie for two all to myself. Good luck.
