Hi

As my user name says this summer the Ryan Air seatbelt did not fit.
Yesterday I had to sit on a wooden deck chair and I found myself trying to Google what the weight limit could be

So tomorrow I start a diet.
So many threads on Mumsnet are for people much smaller than me
I'm 18 stones and 5lbs.

Please feel free to join if you are seriously overweight, please don't join if you are just averagely fat.

@Letsbe

It's only a bit more than 2lbs a week and I have loads to lose.
I just have to try.
I can also eat quickly
Working from home is a killer, I can just stand in front of an open fridge and eat anything!

@SeatbeltExtender I have to remind myself (figuratively not literally) I am walking a marathon not a sprint. We just got to keep going.

NanFlanders · 16/09/2024 14:53

Can I join please? Always been overweight but have spiralled over the last few years with AD meds, the menopause and a severely anorexic daughter which has meant a house full of high cal snacks for refeeding and throwing away of the scales! DD is now doing much better and has said she wouldn't be triggered if I lost weight - but I want to be subtle about it in the house anyway. I'm 57, 5ft 6 and about 17 stone. DH diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and I don't want to go the same way. I started Mounjaro a week ago and it's going well so far!

Orangesandlemons77 · 16/09/2024 20:33

I'm also about to start mounjaro but not sure if I can afford it long term- I'm going to see how it goes.

NoDishiForRishi · 16/09/2024 23:06

Hi everyone! Hope I'm ok to join! Where to start? Well, I've been 'big' my whole life. I was a fat kid, a fat teenager and now I'm a fat adult. I did manage to lose almost three stones a few years ago which whilst a drop in the ocean for what I needed to lose, was a massive thing for me but unfortunately due to what I now know is untreated PTSD after the loss of my eldest daughter and emotionally eating to self medicate (I'm in the process of getting help for this) I put all that back on plus a couple extra just for fun.

Currently I weigh 158.6kg which is 2.5kg down from when i got weighed at the doctors at the start of this attempt so I'm quite pleased with that. My goal weight is 72kg which would put me in the healthy range for my height (I'm 5ft 6in). So just 13 stone or so to lose. God that looks insurmountable written down. I'm 42.

So far I'm counting calories via My Fitness Pal (1800 a day to start, hoping to get it down to 1400 a day as time goes on) I have a weekly Gousto box that enables me to effectively meal plan which is something I have struggled with in the past and my Dr has put me on metformin to treat my PCOS and hopefully help with weight loss too. I haven't ruled out the injections, specifically mounjaro but obviously cost is a factor.

I had a whole battery of blood tests done just over a week ago which I'm waiting on the results for and I'm having my blood pressure checked as it was quite high the last time they did it, which was when I got weighed, nothing less relaxing than a machine in the doctors waiting room telling you to relax let me tell you! I have an appointment with a person next week so we'll just have to see.

And I think that's about it. I really want to do this, I'm so tired of being like this. And it would be nice to be able to chat to others who get it and are on a similar journey. It's lovely to meet you all.

Minnie888 · 17/09/2024 07:56

Welcome @NoDishiForRishi Smile

Going to be a tough week here, away with work- will be walking a lot and food options will be limited so I'll have the make the best choices I can. Nice to have other people on the same journey

NoDishiForRishi · 17/09/2024 09:15

@Minnie888 Hi and thank you! Being away from home is so difficult isn't it? Making the best choices you can is all you can do. Hopefully all the walking should help as well.

The GPs have also put me on metformin for weight (no diabetes) just about a month ago

It's only been about 3 weeks for me. I can't say I've noticed a lack of appetite so far. In fact I've had very few side effects at all which judging by what I've read is unusual. I'm on 500mg twice a day.

Orangesandlemons77 · 17/09/2024 18:54

I'm also on 500mg twice a day, started mounjaro today, hoping I can take both together. I hadn't noticed much with the metformin.

I'm hoping to get started on Mounjaro in the next few weeks. I'm doing ok at the moment but having something to just turn the hunger off while I get a handle on my new normal would be brilliant. Let me know how you get on? If you don't mind of course. ☺️

Of course! I'm probably going to speak to my GP today or later in the week, to mention about starting it and what to do about the metformin. They seemed quite positive in the past about it saying I would be a good candidate for the injections but a long wait for tier 3 weight management on the NHS at present.

I'd be happy to take both together I'm just a bit concerned about e.g. blood sugars going too low or something

Wishihadanalgorithm · 18/09/2024 06:54

Can I join as well please? I’m 16stone 4lb and it has to go! I think I need to lose 5 stone (6?).

DP has been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes so is now really focused and doing well so why can’t I do it alongside him? I’ve been asking him for ages to support and get on the healthy eating train but he hasn’t so I have continually started and then stopped. Now he’s so focused and I’m the one who isn’t doing the plan!

Today is day 1. Porridge for breakfast has to be good start!

Clutterbugsmum · 18/09/2024 07:17

I'll join. I had a check up with the doctor last week

I'm just over 5 foot and now weigh 16 stone.

I'm not sure how much I want to lose, so I'm going to start with loosing a stone at a time.

The sounds like a plan! I'm around the same height and weight. Well, fist I thought I was 5ft 3, but then they measured me again at the GPs and this time I was 5ft 2 which brings my BMI in at 40 which I was annoyed by.

NoDishiForRishi · 18/09/2024 09:43

@Orangesandlemons77 I'm going to have a chat about them and metformin as well. Hopefully when I get my blood results back. My doctor didn't bring up the injections when I spoke to her, she did however mention bariatric surgery, surely mounjaro or similar would be more cost effective than major surgery or worth trying first? Doesn't make much sense to me. I've been referred for weight management, just waiting to hear back from them. If I could get mounjaro prescribed that would be great but I've pretty much resigned myself to paying for them privately at this point.

Welcome @Wishihadanalgorithm and @Clutterbugsmum ☺️

Do you think maybe that GP was just not as up-to-date on the new meds perhaps? I'm also having bloods early November so will be interested to see if any changes

NoDishiForRishi · 18/09/2024 10:34

@Orangesandlemons77 She did mention how she wouldn't be able to offer 'the ones you see in the media' before giving me my options (metformin, orlistat, weight management referral). I'm on pins waiting for these results to be honest, I will be amazed if I'm not at least pre diabetic.

Orangesandlemons77 · 18/09/2024 11:03

I have spoken to my GP who advised coming off the metformin for now and just staying on the mounjaro for the time being

I'm weirdly not pre-diabetic even though BMI is 40.

Orangesandlemons77 · 18/09/2024 11:05

It's odd how the GPs are different, mine said she would refer me in the hope of getting it on the NHS and when I said well, I guess it would be priorities for the diabetics she said that might not be the case and she wished me all the best with it, maybe it will become available, she did say again about long waiting times though for tier 3

As an aside has anyone else been referred to e.g. tier 3 weight management, any good?

SeatbeltExtender · 18/09/2024 15:57

There are threads in weight loss chat if you want to talk about all the various injections etc.

Orangesandlemons77 · 18/09/2024 16:01

Sorry for going on about the injections, I'll stop now.

NoDishiForRishi · 18/09/2024 16:26

@SeatbeltExtender Duly noted! Sorry for the derail! Blush

I am struggling a bit today. It's a good couple of hours till dinner time for me and I am already peckish. I can't have it any earlier as then I get snackish before bedtime which leads to bad choices. DH is on nights as well which means it's me vs my 7 year old tonight. I've chosen a 10 minute meal out of my Gousto box for dinner so I can't kid myself that a takeaway will be 'quicker'.

Letsbe · 18/09/2024 16:46

@NoDishiForRishi any lower calories snacks about fruit hard boiled eggs vegetable soup carrot sticks / apple with cottage cheese or dip of some kind ? I think having some of these in the fridge can really help.
