Hey, I lost weight! After steadily losing a pound a week, I found myself severely plateaued... six weeks at 154.5.

This morning, 153 pounds, 10 stone 13 to you British types.

I've been taking Rybelsus for three weeks, and apart from screwing up my eating routine, I don't think it's helping at all.

But I've finally lost weight. If only I could lose some inches from my waist...

Londonlady365 · 04/04/2024 12:33

My supplier came back with the less than helpful reply that I should not eat for 30 mins after taking, nothing about whether I should eat after 30 mins.

As I understand it, you should not eat within 30 minutes of taking it as it absorbs better and more predictably from an empty stomach but, once that 30mins is over, it should not matter whether you eat after 30 mins, 1hr, 2hrs or whatever. I think someone on the last thread suggested nausea was reduced if you ate fairly soon after but I guess that is individual

QueenOfHiraeth · 10/04/2024 22:36

I started Rybelsus 3mg last year but gave up when the shortages hit
My eating has been out of control and I have gained about a stone in weight since then so have decided to restart.

I had about 20 of the 3mg in hand and know I can tolerate those as I'd had a full month last year so will take those then try 7mg and cross my fingers!

Dinosaurpoo · 11/04/2024 21:20

Just checking in! I’ve not visited the thread for a while as I’ve been feeling pretty fed up and stuck on a plateau with the weight hardly moving.
Anyway, I’m finally seeing a bit of a shift again. It’s taken ages to feel like the 14mg tablets were are effective as the 10 for some reason!
but, this morning I was 1lb under the weight that pushed me to obese! Feels like a milestone! Im
only short and was feeling so big when I started. I’ve now lost a total of 25 lbs since the end of September. Slow going, but I’m happy. I’d like to lose another 20lbs or so. We’ll see!!

JaffacakeJanine · 14/04/2024 22:58

Huge congrats @Dinosaurpoo ! The plateaus are reallll, trying to do some extra weight lifting to try and maybe kick start some movement again 🤣

BangingOn · 15/04/2024 21:06

Well done @Dinosaurpoo that’s brilliant. I share your plateau pain, I cannot shift this last stone and I am definitely getting used to the 14mg now.

RedRum27 · 16/04/2024 14:29

That's great @Dinosaurpoo well done! Also checking in, I've had 4 weeks off the exercise due to crazy couple of weeks at work and then Easter holidays. I stopped taking the 14mg as didn't want to waste a very expensive pill when I was out drinking/eating on holiday etc. I prefer taking it when I'm fully focused I think? However I did notice that I generally ate less overall?! Portions were definitely smaller than they have been before pre-Ryb. Either way, had a 4lb gain since the 7th March so back at the gym yesterday so let's see! Hope you are all doing well...slow and steady wins the race.

Dinosaurpoo · 16/04/2024 19:51

Thanks all!
it’s Such a relief to see the scales move after a period of not shifting. It’s motivated me to be more careful of what I’m eating so I can keep seeing progress. I’ve had to buy some new trousers too! hooray for these very expensive pills 😂

@RedRum27 I know what you mean about not wanting to waste the tablets! I find that I can still over eat on them if I’m not careful. They just kind of make it easier not to iykwim? I’m hoping that because I still have to use some will power on the tablets, it won’t be a total disaster when I come off them. Time will tell.

JaffacakeJanine · 23/04/2024 08:21

The weights are working! The scales are moving down finally and lost another 3-4ish pounds in the last couple weeks.

Current stats - starting weight 189lbs around July last year. Now I'm at 148lbs! All this on 5'2 frame. It's not been the fastest weight loss in the world for sure, but I haven't experienced any loose skin and also haven't really had to do anything or actively restrict to get there. Still have some weight on my belly/thighs/back but oh my gosh, I am so much happier and more body confident, caring about my appearance and for the first time in a while, been updating my wardrobe so I'm feeling pretty fresh 😎

Also not sure if it's a shift in the weather or my mood (?!) but the meds were feeling a lot less effective for a few weeks then suddenly I had a cold, skipped meds for 2-3 days, recovered and my appetite is now like when I first started Rybelsus - how weird is this drug?!?!

Cjgdjkf · 23/04/2024 11:57

Hello 👋 Long time no speak so thought I’d check in after just seeing @JaffacakeJanine update! Everyone sounds like they are doing well and plateaus are starting to shift which is great news! I think it helps the weather being slightly better, or it does for me!

I’m still on 7 along with a half of a 7 and this seems to work if I’m consistent. I’ve noticed if I don’t forget or don’t stop taking them like I had for a bit, they build up again in my system and it does work - but it takes a few weeks so I’m determined to be consistent for a bit. I also notice the more exercise I do the better! I’m about 1/2 pound from goal weight and so I did start to wonder about moving to every other day taking the tablets (once I’ve got goal). The company said I had to take every other day until I weaned myself off them in order to stop (I did think they’d say I had to stay on them for maintenance but maybe lower the dosage) . I feel like I may have to take this med in the future as I don’t want to put the weight back on but at £250 a box I’m not sure how doable that is every month!!! Plus at the moment I’m halving the tables do a box does not last 30 days!! We will see….. summer was always easier for me to lose weight rather than miserable winters and all the carbs I wanted!!

QueenOfHiraeth · 23/04/2024 20:15

I am now about 10 days into my 7mg tablets, having had 3 weeks of 3mg before them, and think I am starting to feel the effects of reduced appetite and cravings. It's very odd as I have always wanted to eat and not been used to only eating if I am hungry so stopping and thinking what and when to eat is a new experience.
I've lost very little as yet because I haven't really been cutting back and have had a lot of social things on but fingers crossed going forward

JaffacakeJanine · 24/04/2024 07:26

@QueenOfHiraeth the reduced hunger is such a god send! At first I did have to work a bit counting calories as it's quite easy to overindulge on sweets/snacks/non-filling stuff in my experience. I'd recommend upping protein as much as possible too as, a) more filling and b) helps reduce lose in muscle tone with the weight loss 💪

@Cjgdjkf 1-2 pounds off your goal weight, incredible! Well done! I will be keen to hear how people manage once the goal weight has been achieved. I do feel I'll be a lifer on the meds but also might reduce to a 7 eventually for maintenance, as the 14s do tend to give me the slightest bit of nausea which isn't the most fun

I've somehow been roped into doing some weight lifting challenge with friends so my arms are crying right now 🥲 with my upped protein though I'm already starting to see some definition with the small amounts of weights I'm doing currently - it's easier to pick up my cat, etc!

Londonlady365 · 24/04/2024 11:10

14mg every 3 days is still working as a maintenance dose for me. I get hungry but can not overindulge. I have been getting heartburn and nausea if I drink too much or eat to much greasy food ( like when I first started ) it's been over 2 months now and no weight gain.

Cjgdjkf · 24/04/2024 12:39

I spoke too soon @JaffacakeJanine I weighed today and although have been exercising again this morning I was 2lbs up so now back to 4lbs to lose again 🫠 Also I’m the same re exercise pain, can hardly walk today lol

that’s great @Londonlady365 and much cheaper! I didnt move to 14 but am currently on 10.5 by having 1.5 tablets. I am starting to gag at the thought of taking my tablets each day which is annoying! I’ll look forward to taking them less that’s for sure when I get to maintenance!

Keep going @QueenOfHiraeth i defo think it has to build up in your system before true results are seen

Londonlady365 · 24/04/2024 12:48

@Cjgdjkf If you have been damaging your muscles there will be some swelling and water weight.

Cjgdjkf · 24/04/2024 12:58

@Londonlady365 hadn't thought of that! Hopefully once I get more used to exercise again it will all come right

GGG684 · 24/04/2024 16:26

Hey,
Sounds like you're all doing great & you've certainly motivated me.
I am just wondering where you have managed to buy it from? I was on this last year but had to stop due to stock issues, and keen to start again but can only seem to be offered Mounjaro or Wegovy which I don't want to risk, as I know I tolerated the Rybelsus well,

Thank you!

JaffacakeJanine · 25/04/2024 00:24

Hi @GGG684 - I've been using rightangled, they seem one of the better sites for stock in my experience!

@Cjgdjkf definitely worth considering if it's the muscle! My weight went up today too - I suppose sometimes it's natural fluctuations, but I like to think it's muscle GAINS hehe

@Londonlady365 that's great you are able to maintain like this, I hope I'll be able to follow your example eventually as these pills ain't cheap!

BangingOn · 25/04/2024 15:04

I have just had a call from Rightangled to say they are no longer supplying Rybelsus unless you have diabetes or a GP letter confirming a needle phobia. After a long conversation with their prescriber, who was incredibly helpful, I am switching to Mounjaro. I’m not thrilled about it but not sure of the alternative as Rybelsus is so hard to find and Rightangled had the only reasonable price.

The good news is that Mounjaro is cheaper and apparently more effective so should help overcome my plateau.

I raised the question of maintenance doses too. Technically they can’t prescribe a maintenance dose but they can keep prescribing until you get to a BMI of 22, even if your loss has plateaued. I am very happy with that as a BMI of 22 would be too low in my frame anyway, so I think I can make that work long term.

SilkySuky · 25/04/2024 15:31

Thanks for that @BangingOn , I'll be expecting a call from them, then.
What is the equivalent dosage in mounjaro for 14mg rybelsus, did they say?
And am I right in thinking it's a slightly different drug to semaglutide?

BangingOn · 25/04/2024 15:38

@SilkySuky they said they are working through communicating it to everyone, but you could give them a ring.

They gave me a choice between Wegovy (the same as Ozempic) or Mounjaro and talked me through the pros and cons of both. I went with Mounjaro as it has a second GLP receptor ingredient and studies have shown it is more effective. He said many people stay on the lowest dose (2.5mg) and never have to move up, but we agreed to start me on 5mg given I’ve been on 14mg Rybelsus since last July and am in a plateau (although I’ve now finally hit 5 stone loss).

SilkySuky · 25/04/2024 15:44

I've got about 2 weeks left of my current box of R, so I'll wait for them to get in touch.
I'm going to do a bit of googling about Mounjaro to see what I can find out.
Not thrilled at the prospect of injections but similar to you I've been on a plateau since October 23 so will see what the prescriber suggests.

Well done on the 5 stones, I'm at just under 4 stones down myself.
