Hi,

Just got back from holiday and thread was full. Couldn't see a new one 😞 let me know if there is one. Hope everyone is doing well.

@Cjgdjkf @RedRum27 luckily no more extreme pain! I suppose it could have been gas, it was in my lower lower stomach so the sort of place I'd normally get period cramps. So weird.

I'm officially down from June 2023 - start weight 189lbs, and now at 151lbs! Marvellous! I still don't look all that different when I look in the mirror and the loss sounds more dramatic than it is to be honest, but stuff like jeans no longer fitting and previously tight t-shirts loose is nice! I've also treated myself to a bunch of new clothes to celebrate.

I've had one close colleague ask if I'd lost weight too, so I suppose at least one person has noticed! That or people don't want to be accidentally rude commenting on stuff like that.

Dinosaurpoo · 10/03/2024 12:00

Glad you’re feeling ok @JaffacakeJanine the gas pain I had after my second c-section was hell. I had no idea air could cause so much pain!
thats an excellent loss.

I’ve taken this weekend “off” went out for a mates birthday last night and thought I’d hold off for 2 days. I haven’t had a hangover from hell - so yay! Back to it tomorrow - going to put some effort in to shift another stone.

RedRum27 · 10/03/2024 13:35

That’s fantastic @JaffacakeJanine amazing progress! Enjoy your new clothes too and nice that others have noticed! They always say we noticed last or after other people do too. Well done!

BangingOn · 10/03/2024 15:29

@JaffacakeJanine that sounds horrendous. I have suffered from intermittent constipation and stomach cramps since starting Rybelsus so it could well be the tablets.

I am 4.5 stone down since May ‘23 but the weight loss has slowed hugely since Christmas and I can definitely eat a lot more now. I think this shows that I will need to be on a maintenance dose indefinitely, which I’m ok with.

The NHS calculator says I need to lose another stone to be at the top end of the healthy weight bracket for my height and once I’ve got to that weight I will just aim to maintain. I think any smaller won’t suit me and could look very ageing, I have no desire to be a size 8.

JaffacakeJanine · 14/03/2024 01:13

Thanks for all the support! Luckily no more pain or hideous toilet trips as of yet.

@BangingOn incredible loss! It might be slower now but steady does it!

@Dinosaurpoo congrats on avoiding a hangover ;) I've found I don't get the same buzz at all from drinking, how was your experience?

I thought I would give a maintenance update. Coming off completely made me painfully hungry and the weight was coming back quickly and a lot of carb bloat. I did 30 days on 14mg lost the bloat and maybe a few lbs but nothing significant. I could feel it working agai but it feels like it doesn't work when you get to target weight. I continued on 14mg every 3 days..the 3/4 split didn't work. It does feel like a little boost every 3 days even though it shouldn't work like that. Taking every 3 days is stopping rapid weight gain and bloating. I am hungry and can eat and drink anything but so far it's taking the edge off. Not sure if it will start to wear off but for now it's working.

BangingOn · 21/03/2024 20:35

@Londonlady365 thanks for sharing, that is really interesting. I am definitely struggling to lose my last half stone and 14mg feels like a maintenance dose already.

Out of interest, have you had any issues with getting an ongoing prescription now you’ve lost so much weight or is your provider happy to keep on prescribing it to you?

JaffacakeJanine · 21/03/2024 22:19

@Londonlady365 thanks for sharing, as BangingOn said, it's really interesting to hear.

I've heard a couple of cases where people come off and they can keep the weight off, but overwhelming I've heard it's really intended to be a lifelong medication for those predisposed to obesity. I really hope prices start dropping soon so this can be a reality for others! I fully intend to stick on a maintenance dose as long as I can financially support it.

Londonlady365 · 22/03/2024 06:06

@BangingOn I am not feeling much difference between everyday and every 3 days. I had been off for a few months so I thought my tolerance would have worn off. What seems to happen is on day 1 I feel nauseous dry mouth etc then it wears off and by the end of day 2 I am starving. I couldn't extend to 4 days so I could take on the same days each week. I know with the half life that shouldn't happen. The only issue I had with prescribing was I hadn't ordered for 6 months due to stockpiling during the shortage and taking every other day. I managed to prove I had bought enough in the past. One pack now lasts 3 months so I have enough for 6 months and then see if it's still working. Trying to find an affordable way to stay on it. I think it will get cheaper. The problem maybe the gaps in prescriptions.

CanadianJohn · 23/03/2024 04:14

Can I join in? I've not read the full thread, or the previous one, so apologies if I'm regurgitating old stuff.

I have T2 diabetes, and also NAFLD (non-alcoholic-fatty-liver-disease). The two conditions tend to go together. I don't have much weight to lose, maybe 10 lbs or so. My BMI is 25 even. I would like to lose some belly fat.

I was pretty happy with the way I was managing the diabetes, but the doc has put me on 3mg Rybelsus "just for a few months, to see". Horrendously expensive, fortunately my insurance will cover it.

I'm not particularly worried about side effects (cross fingers), and I certainly wouldn't mind losing a few pounds, but I'm a little miffed about my comfortable routine (rut) being messed up.

JaffacakeJanine · 25/03/2024 23:43

Welcome @CanadianJohn ! I very quickly fell into a new routine with the Rybelsus, it can be a bit annoying not eating or drinking for half an hour in the morning but you'll soon get used to it, I hope it works out for you!

SilkySuky · 28/03/2024 20:59

Hello everyone, hope you are all ok, lovely to see updates from posters from thread 1, and welcome new friends.

My update is that after losing nearly 4 stones, I haven't lost anything really since Oct last year. Had a bit of gain over Christmas but am back down to my plateau weight. I'm happy staying here even though I'm still classed as overweight as the hair loss and baggy skin was starting to be a worry.

I'm still taking 14mg every day, as if I try and 'game' my dose by taking every 3 days or every other day the food noise starts to come back, and weight comes back on.

I always did think this would be a lifelong medication, and am prepared for that to be the case. I believe obesity is a complex health condition like many others, and if you have high blood pressure for example, you don't stop taking the meds when they start working!

There's lots of positive news about other, more effective GLP 1 meds in R&D/ trials as the whole world can see how profitable these drugs are! Hopefully that will lower the cost in the near future.

I read something really interesting from a stats modelling economist who urged stock traders to move their money from stocks in companies that make hip and knee replacements to GLP 1 manufacturing companies, as these drugs are predicted to have such a positive effect on weight that there will be a huge drop in demand for replacement surgeries in the next 10 years.

Onwards and upwards everybody.😁

Londonlady365 · 29/03/2024 08:35

That's interesting @SilkySuky I think it stops working when we reach our own set weight. Like you my weight loss stopped. There are a few others on here experiencing the same. It isn't tolerance because I stopped taking for months and I only got back to the same set weight before it stopped working again. However every 3 days is working as maintenance for me. I seem to be feeling the effects every 3 days more than everyday. But I have started a new box.

Gingerkittykat · 29/03/2024 12:25

I've been on Rybelsus for 24 days, prescribed on the NHS for diabetes but I have lost 10lb and hope the weight loss continues.

Can I ask if anyone has taken a day off so they can eat more? I'm going to a family event over the weekend and want to be able to eat a decent amount. During the day I can only eat very small amounts before I feel sick, with it wearing off in the evening and eating more then.

I had my appointment with the nurse yesterday and my sugar levels are also down. I need to take the 3mg for another 2 months because the GP who wrote the prescription gave me 3 months worth and nobody wants to waste 2 months worth of tablets.

JaffacakeJanine · 29/03/2024 20:28

@Gingerkittykat I've tried not taking meds for days I want to eat more, but sadly it doesn't really seem to work that well. Even stopping them a week before a big event, I wasn't back to my normal hunger levels by the event, it really hangs around in the system, at least for me.

It's similar also when you go off and back on again a week or so later, you'll notice diminishing hunger staving effects, and then it takes a while for it to build back again.

Still, everybody metabolises differently so maybe it's worth a go regardless!

JaffacakeJanine · 29/03/2024 20:32

@SilkySuky it definitely has slowed for me too, but I also account the Christmas period slightly and it's taken a while to get back onto things!

I think for me, I probably need to start to incorporate more cardio into my life now if I want to see more immediate changes. I've started lifting weights in a very lazy fashion whilst watching telly, in an attempt to maybe shape up the body even if the scale isn't going down ;) it's a lot easier for sure in my slimmer body!

Stuff like bending down or getting onto the floor generally is heaps easier, and I can just break out into jumping jacks now so the energy is there!

Thanks fopr the reply, I find I can't eat all day and then the hunger kicks in in the evening and I eat but in lesser quantities than before. I assume by the next day it would have worn off for me.

I think I'll still take it now and just have to eat tiny portions.

CanadianJohn · 29/03/2024 22:40

I've been on Rybelsus for 8 days now, and I've managed to gain two pounds. Very disappointing. I've noticed feeling a little light-headed a few times, but no other side effects.

I am somewhat confused by previous posters saying they take the drug first thing in the morning. I understand the 'empty stomach' requirement, but my instructions also say 'for best effect, you should eat 30 - 60 minutes after taking'. Maybe that's my problem, I rarely eat before noon, unless you count black coffee as 'eating'.

I'm rarely hungry, it's just greediness that keeps my face in the trough.

SilkySuky · 30/03/2024 06:14

@CanadianJohn I know some people have reported that they don't get the full benefit of the medication until about a month in to taking it? Maybe it's the same for you?

Also, I quite often get light headed if I stand up too quickly, I think it's one of the reported side effects.

Someone has said on here that it works better for them the longer they leave it before eating, but it seems to affect everyone slightly differently.

Londonlady365 · 30/03/2024 06:31

@CanadianJohn I have just asked my supplier if it anytime after 30 mins or as you say its best to eat after 30 - 90 mins. Now I take every 3 days I often forget to take during the night so I take when I wake up and wait 30 mins for coffee and kit kat. I wonder if that explains why I am feeling the effects more now.

Gingerkittykat · 30/03/2024 10:26

I've not long taken my tablet and already feel sick, and the feeling of fullness also kicks in pretty quickly.

I was told to eat after half an hour but I don't since I would normally not eat then anyway. I just have a couple of cups of coffee and will eat lunch.

I've also experienced feeling light headed.

@CanadianJohn I understand about eating for the sake of eating rather than being physically hungry and I also do that too, but right now can't physically eat nearly as much of the bad stuff. I think head hunger is a lot harder to deal with than physical hunger.

Londonlady365 · 04/04/2024 12:33

My supplier came back with the less than helpful reply that I should not eat for 30 mins after taking, nothing about whether I should eat after 30 mins.

Sandwichgen · 04/04/2024 12:58

Can I ask where you are obtaining R? I am diabetic and stones overweight but my dr will only prescribe Metformin. I’d be happy to pay a reasonable, or even somewhat unreasonable, price off
my own bat …

Londonlady365 · 04/04/2024 15:31

Ajhill or slimming4you. Slightly more expensive than some online pharmacies but good service and reliable supply. They do give regular offers to exsisting customers which probably brings the price in line with other suppliers.
