Lose 1 stone in 6 weeks - any tips?

Hey everyone! My DS is two at the end of May and we have some guests coming from overseas that we haven’t seen in years. I’m still holding on to about 20lbs of weight from having my son that wasn’t there when they last saw me.

Im using his party as a kick up the bum to lose some of the weight, and have set a stone as a realistic number. Does anyone have any tips or diets you’ve used that have worked for this kind of weight loss??

thanks!

5:2 will do that and you only have to be hungry twice a week

A couple of easy things that will lead to more sustainable weight loss.

Ditch alcohol. Loads of calories you don't need.

Ditch sugar, particularly sugary drinks.

Swap white carbs for brown ones. They will fill you up on less.

Drink and eat lots of water. Again will keep you fuller for longer on less calories.

Use an app to log everything you eat and drink. It will highlight how many calories you're actually eating and make some simple cuts / swaps from that.

Remagirl · 12/04/2023 17:56

I did this by sticking to 1200 calories a day before I had surgery. Wasn't too bad and definitely helped my recovery x

RenegadeMrs · 12/04/2023 17:58

I cut out snacks and booze, up my fruit and veg and try and stick to a 10 hour eating window. Walking more will help too.

User17865 · 12/04/2023 18:07

I’ve lost nearly a stone in 3 weeks with Ozempic without feeling hungry once. I have a bit of nausea but not too bad.

NemoandDoris · 12/04/2023 18:15

all the above & try and get a 10,000 step count in each day.

Dr Michael Moseley Fast 800 diet.

OMGitsnotgood · 12/04/2023 18:19

Old fashioned now I guess but the only time I dieted was on a calorie controlled diet and lost a stone in a month. The reason I still think this is a good way to go is that it really educated me on the calorific content of food: 1 small pork pie or a piece of fish or chicken and as many veg as I could eat - no brainer . The initial weight loss is one thing, the ongoing sustainability is another.

CandleRigg89 · 12/04/2023 18:25

@Treacletoots Oh is that the one where you eat around 500 a day on two days, and then fairly normally the other 5? I think I vaguely remember that from my teen years! Did you find it easy enough on the two days?

@Twizbe Thank you! I actually barely drink (last time was Christmas), don’t drink sugary drinks, and don’t eat white carbs right now (white bread etc goes for my stomach)! It’s good to know those are things that can help! Definitely do not drink or eat even enough water so will make an effort to up that, and will definitely start tracking. Any app recommendations?

@Remagirl ive seen this recommended a few times! Did you find that an easy number to stick to?

@RenegadeMrs upping walking sounds like an easy way to burn a bit more - will def do that!

@User17865 oh man a few people I work with were talking about this! Think I’d be too nervous to use medication unless I needed to lose a bit more!

I'm on the same target timeline, op. It's gotta go!!

Here's what I'm doing:

Porridge or eggs for breakfast

Big salad, soups, Jacket spud and salad for lunch. Lots of protein

Dinner will be meat and two veg/bbq and veg. No pasta, pies or crappy carbs.

Also cutting the wine

Snacks are only if I'm desperate and will be: hard boiled eggs, cottage cheese, fruit, veg sticks.

Worked before,it better work again!

Thank you for this!! I feel a bit lost as pre-baby I was generally in decent shape and was always smack bang in the middle of healthy bmi. I feel like I have no idea what I’m doing right now and there’s so much info. I think calorie control might teach me a bit more in the long run. Is 1200 a sustainable amount so you know? Heard it mentioned a few times!

Use an app that logs everything you eat and drink. I was incredibly surprised at the my number of calories I was actually eating in a day when I thought I had a reasonably restrained diet!

Comby · 12/04/2023 18:39

BMR calculator. Cut by 500 calories for healthy, sustained loss.
Or Fast 800 for quick results.
Google food group calories and nutrition info, many websites out there.
Weighing food and meal planning.
Remembering drinks, sauces etc are all calories too.
Fast for as long as possible (12 hrs overnight).
Get used to the feeling of being a bit hungry, it's no big deal.
Swimming.

I used the free version of MyFitnessPal to log everything. Lots of salads, not so much in terms of carbs. It's easier than you think x

Second this. The only way I've ever managed to lose weight is through logging in Myfitnesspal. Unfortunately I get bored of doing it after a while and it creeps back on, but it definitely works as a quick way of losing it.

Twizbe · 12/04/2023 19:42

I've used the free my fitness pal too. I used Noom before and lost 10kg. Loved it as an app but can't justify the subscription now.

FattyAl · 13/04/2023 01:45

Any chance you fancy a buddy? I’m starting on Monday as currently on holiday and then have exactly six weeks until my birthday?

DailySnail · 13/04/2023 02:00

I'm the same. I've been carrying baby weight and my baby is 2.5 years old! I'm doing Fast 800 at the minute. After the first few days, it's actually been really easy so far. Plus, it's really encouraging me to get more vegetables in. I definitely feel healthier and more vibrant so far.

Summer2424 · 13/04/2023 02:34

Hi @CandleRigg89 i had baby weight too. Try just having a bowl of porridge for dinner. Also try a 30 mins workout video everyday 💪😊

Bansheed · 13/04/2023 02:53

To burn off 2.2lbs of fat takes a deficit of 7,000 calories. Find out your daily BMEE and then work out how much less you need to be eating a day.

Exercise everyday. Standard of walking loads plus some kind of resistance circuit. ( you tube les Mills helped me)

Weigh food and log exercise to ensure ypu keep your daily deficit.

Yes assuming you fit the criteria with your BMI. I also highly recommend Ozempic. I seem to be losing a pound a day eating sensibly.
Manual looks like it's aimed at men but at least half in the whatapp support group are female. Follow the weight loss assessment and see if you qualify.
Amazing results for must of ya using Ozempic ( weekly injections)
