Lose 1 stone in 6 weeks - any tips?

Hey everyone! My DS is two at the end of May and we have some guests coming from overseas that we haven’t seen in years. I’m still holding on to about 20lbs of weight from having my son that wasn’t there when they last saw me.

Im using his party as a kick up the bum to lose some of the weight, and have set a stone as a realistic number. Does anyone have any tips or diets you’ve used that have worked for this kind of weight loss??

thanks!

To burn off 2.2lbs of fat takes a deficit of 7,000 calories. Find out your daily BMEE and then work out how much less you need to be eating a day.

Exercise everyday. Standard of walking loads plus some kind of resistance circuit. ( you tube les Mills helped me)

Weigh food and log exercise to ensure ypu keep your daily deficit.

This. If you had a daily deficit of 1100 cal you'd lose a stone in 6 weeks.

So I'd be aiming to eat 1200cal a day with decent amounts of protein, and burn 2500 cal - walking will be fine for this but if you can add any weights so much the better

This is all so amazing! Thank you so much everyone!!

I’ve downloaded MyFitnessPal and charged my Apple Watch for pedometer and feel ready to tackle this!!

@FattyAl A weight loss buddy would be amazing!!

@Beenalongwinter My BMI according to the NHS website is 26.5, so I’ve creeped into the overweight category but a stone would take me back under so don’t think I’d qualify for that. I have heard some great things about it though, and so pleased more people have this as an option now!

@CandleRigg89 , I came on to mumsnet to start a thread with the same target - can I join you?!!

I have exactly 6weeks until my sister's wedding and I'd love to lose a stone. Not just for the wedding, but because I want all my summer clothes to fit too!

I'm going to do a combo of what other people have mentioned - I'll start with 16:8 as my baseline, and then within that I'm going to cut down on snacks completely, drink more water, cut sugar and enjoy protein.

No food is 'forbidden' but mindless eating/drinking is. I want to savour and enjoy the food I do have and move my body plenty too :)

Starting weight: 12st 6.5
Target weight: 11st 7

(I'm tall and broad so 11.5st suits my frame, much lower than that doesn't look/feel great)

Hazelnuttella · 13/04/2023 09:23

The only thing I’ve found effective is:

A) coming off hormonal birth control

B) intermittent fasting. I only eat between 11am - 7pm (ish). If I were you I’d try to get your body used to that for a few weeks and then focus on “what” you’re eating during those times.

I just have black coffee and water in the morning, have my lunch at 11ish and then early tea with toddler.

FattyAl · 13/04/2023 20:20

Ok so have you guys started…..I’m about 80kg but will weigh in when I get home on monday.
do we want a regular weigh in day?
I’m excited to have buddies @CandleRigg89 @Ohyesthankyouglitter

Pigeonpair1 · 14/04/2023 08:38

Michael Moseley 8-week blood sugar diet. It’s tough, but I lost 10lb just in the first week.

Restlessinthenorth · 14/04/2023 08:53

Can I join? I really need to do this. I had a brilliant start to the year but absolutely messed it up. Monday is line in the same day! 1200 is totally so able for me, and now it's getting lighter outside, so are the steps. 10000 a day, minimum. I feel gutted when I look at my lovely summer clothes right now!

toiletinacupboard · 14/04/2023 08:56

I need to lose 7lb and I'm struggling with it. I keep snacking on Easter eggs and things 😖

I feel like a sugar addict. It's awful

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 14/04/2023 18:08

Can I join you? I’ve got just under 2 stone to lose but will happily aim for a stone in 6 weeks!

I don’t drink much alcohol but I’ve become addicted to sugar and refined carbs - have started today by cutting out bread, pasta, chocolate etc and swapping sugary snacks for fruit.

Ohyesthankyouglitter · 16/04/2023 15:35

So we have @FattyAl @CandleRigg89 @Clettercletterthatsbetter @Restlessinthenorth ,
Anyone else in for the ride?
I've not had a brilliant start- family birthday and loads of easter chocolate still around. But have managed 16:8, so not as bad as if it were a free-for-all.

Am focussed and keen to get started properly :)
How's everyone else getting on?

Plump82 · 16/04/2023 15:38

Low carbs
High protein
Loads of water
16:8 fasting

I can lose a stone in about 6 weeks doing this. I don't feel exercise helps me but it does make me feel better. I hate walking but have been doing Get fit with Rick in YouTube which I love!

Weelegs29 · 16/04/2023 15:42

I have a holiday 6 weeks today and would like to lose around the same so starting tomorrow, would love to join in!

I plan to do 1200 calories a day as I know I should be able to sustain it short-term. Will have a treat on a Saturday just so I dont fall off the wagon.

Im also cutting alcohol, aiming for minimum 2 litres of water a day, and trying for 10k steps at least 5 days a week.

Good luck, we can do this!

Restlessinthenorth · 17/04/2023 06:46

Ok day one is on! Here's the plan

Intermittent fast. This means no hot drinks with milk till after 11 (I think I waste loads of calories on milk in tea!). So fruit teas across the morning

Lunch will be rice, salad and left over chicken tikka chunks that I made last night

Afternoon snack will be a babybel and an orange.

Dinner I'm waiting to see....have some bite to use up so if I'm not starving, a protein yoghurt green smoothie might be on the cards.

Aiming for 10 000 steps.

Going to try use this thread for a daily plan early on and evening check in for accountability

Hope today goes well for everyone

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 17/04/2023 07:08

Starting properly today, after too much sugar yesterday!

My plan is:
at least 10k steps a day (challenging when I work from home most days!)
cutting down on processed food and upping the fruit and veg
sticking to 1200 calories a day

Twilightstarbright · 17/04/2023 07:24

@toiletinacupboard i threw out all the Easter eggs. Luckily DH and DS aren’t fussed on them.

atthebottomofthehill · 17/04/2023 07:50

I'm joining to try to do this too... disaster of a winter in terms of weight.

BadgerFace · 17/04/2023 07:54

Can I join in too please? I need to lose the stone I put on last year as so many of my clothes are too tight now! I don't want to be super thin, just 11 stone instead of 12 (and then I can think about the next step to my ideal (realistic) weight of 10.5 stone!)

I'm intending on:

Intermittent fasting (8.30pm - 12.30pm fast most likely)
High protein, low carb, I'm starting the week with a meal delivery service to make the start east (or I'll eat pasta with the kids when DH is out)
Cut unnecessary sweets and pudding
No alcohol for 6 days a week
Walk as much as possible and try and reinstate running a couple of times a week

I've got four weeks until a trip to NY so hoping to lose at least half a stone by then...

Porthia · 17/04/2023 08:09

Ooh can I join please! Need to lose approx 1 stone ahead of big birthday in June! I am terrible with dieting as I get v hangry plus I have zero willpower in the evening! I can happily resist cakes or chocolate during the day - mostly - but in the evening after a long day I really crave some chocolate and / or wine.

i think I’m going to try the intermittent fasting approach combined with cutting out (or back on) booze and processed crap.

starting weight this morning was 70.2kg which is just over 11 stone!

Restlessinthenorth · 17/04/2023 08:13

Welcome everyone! Let's hope for a really positive month ahead

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 17/04/2023 13:38

I lost a stone in 8 weeks doing slimming world and walking

Unfriendly · 17/04/2023 15:14

Oh can I join please? I’ve started today. I’m fasting 8pm - 12pm, going low carb and trying to get on the treadmill in the evening!

I'm sad today because I brought a beautiful joint of lamb to slow cook, I work from home and have been sniffing lamb all afternoon knowing I can’t have gravy and roast potatoes with it! 😂

MsMH · 17/04/2023 16:32

Can I join too? I'm going on holiday at the end of June and need to shift some of this excess baby weight. I can fit into my old clothes but everything feels uncomfortable and I feel blobby. I seem to have lost my confidence too.

kimball · 17/04/2023 17:23

Can I join too please!?! Have about 1.5 stones to lose overall, but 1 stone in 6 weeks would put me on a great path! Starting weight 11st 7lbs. I have about 10 weeks before I go on holiday.

Hoping to do mixture of IF and low carb.

Nounoufgs · 17/04/2023 17:29

Vegetables and fish for me, along with 18:6.

Although I do like beef in onions garlic, loads of vegetables and broth stewed for a while.

No processed food, sugar, alcohol (or gin only)

Also exercising as much as I can. Not seen any change yet though.

Nounoufgs · 17/04/2023 17:30

Excuse me, where’s my manners! Can I also join please?
