Lose 1 stone in 6 weeks - any tips?

Hey everyone! My DS is two at the end of May and we have some guests coming from overseas that we haven’t seen in years. I’m still holding on to about 20lbs of weight from having my son that wasn’t there when they last saw me.

Im using his party as a kick up the bum to lose some of the weight, and have set a stone as a realistic number. Does anyone have any tips or diets you’ve used that have worked for this kind of weight loss??

thanks!

@Ohyesthankyouglitter I started at Sheildaig and over a few days made my way up to Sandwood Bay, which was the main reason for going - someone first told me about that amazing beach 17 years ago and I've wanted to visit ever since! So I hired a micro camper and off I went! Now I want to sell my car and buy a micro camper 😊

Ohyesthankyouglitter · 12/06/2023 08:41

Week 0: 11st 13.75
Week 1: 11st 10.5

Loss: 3.25lb
10lb in 8 wks target progress = 32.5%

Pleased with that! Am away this week coming so plan is to maintain rather than lose, so glad of the good start.

@ithinkicanithinkican that's so far north!!!! I've only ever made it as far as Clachtoll before. It's like a different world up there, isn't it.

kimball · 12/06/2023 12:21

Week 8 for me - 65.8 kg (10 st 5 lbs) - loss of 0.9 kg (2 lbs)

I've been listening to Ultra Processed People and reading up on how to avoid insulin spikes to keep my mind focussed on my health journey. Starting to feel PMS symptoms, including the urge to snack so I will try my best to stick to healthy choices.

@Ohyesthankyouglitter - amazing loss - well done! What a way to get back on it.

@ithinkicanithinkican - your break sounds idyllic. I'm so envious. Love, love, love Scotland.

@CountlesScreamingArgonauts - that's so strange and frustrating. Hope this last week was a better one and actually reflects all that exercise you put in.

CountlesScreamingArgonauts · 13/06/2023 07:51

Thanks @kimball I'm over my blip, up 4lb and down 5 in a week. I'll never understand it.

And I've made it, a stone off in 8 weeks!

Week 0 11st 12
Week 1 11st 6
Week 2 11st 5
Week 3 11st 6
Week 4 11st 4
Week 5 11st 2
Week 6 11st
Week 7 10st 13
Week 8 10st 12

4 or 5 pounds to go, I think. Wouldn't mind a bit of leeway for the Summer holidays.

Happy Scot here with all the love on this thread for the mother country! This is the absolute best time of year to be here too.

kimball · 14/06/2023 08:03

Hahaha 5 lbs!!!!???? Whatever works! Well done for getting there and let's stick around together for the last few lbs.

CountlesScreamingArgonauts · 15/06/2023 06:57

Thank you @kimball I'm up for sticking around, for sure. The thread has kept me accountable and the support is great.

@ithinkicanithinkican @Ohyesthankyouglitter how are you getting on? And everyone else?

Here's my graph for the last 8 weeks, with all the ups and downs and a pleasing downward trend overall.

Lose 1 stone in 6 weeks - any tips?
ithinkicanithinkican · 16/06/2023 07:54

Morning everyone - nice to see all the love for Scotland 😊. I'm based near Edinburgh myself so being able to get up into the north is a real treat.

Good to see how everyone is getting on - well done to you all! I'm nearly there - last Fri I was 9st 7.4 and this morning it's 9st 7.1 - soooo close! I'm off on holiday at the end of the month though, so ideally I'll lose a couple more lbs before I go so I've got something to gain back while I'm away. I'm really enjoying my clothes fitting better and not digging into me and making me a bit grumpy. I wish I'd taken my measurements at the start as well, because there are definitely changes in my waist and hips, and there are less bulges around my bra which mean my clothes hang better too.

I think my next step might be to sign up for some weights-based exercise - being 53 means I'm very aware of the need to keep my bones in good health, as well as wanting to tone up a bit.

Hope you all have great weekends and are enjoying some sunny weather!

Ohyesthankyouglitter · 17/06/2023 10:05

@CountlesScreamingArgonauts well done on making the stone!!
@ithinkicanithinkican well done! yes, I wish I'd done measurements too. It's so great to be wearing clothes that have a little give.
@kimball you're so consistently losing! 2lb a week at this stage is really impressive.

I've been away for a few days and have had to do most of my eating ad hoc- so I'm expecting an increase when I weigh in on Monday, but happy to be back home and on it again.
I'm feeling trim, but also quite excited to get this final half a stone off, so motivation is high. 👊

ithinkicanithinkican · 17/06/2023 10:15

@Ohyesthankyouglitter Yes, feeling trim is a great motivation! I do worry about keeping the diet and lifestyle changes going over the colder months - but I don't want to regain the stone and a half, that's for sure!

After writing that about wishing I'd taken my measurements, I remembered I'd actually had to take them in February for something unrelated, so I actually can see the changes:
Bust was 37, now 34
Waist was 34, now 30
Hips were 40, now 37

I'm very happy with that!

kimball · 19/06/2023 03:07

Week 9 - 65.5 kg (10 st 4.4 lbs) loss of 0.3 kg (0.6 lbs)

I have not been feeling so great this week. Busy schedule and caught a cold off my daughter, also on my period so my energy level has been very low. I'm still making myself do some exercise but it's definitely less than what I was doing before. Also went out for a group dinner twice and I ate whatever I wanted within reason - so I'm not disappointed with a smaller loss.

@CountlesScreamingArgonauts - so cool to see the graph - it's a good reminder that we have to step back and take a look at the bigger picture.

@ithinkicanithinkican - 0.1 lbs left I'd call that a win! Totally know what you mean about enjoying wearing clothes again. I've dug out quite a few pairs of trousers that felt tight and getting into them again is such a good feeling. I'm also thinking of doing some strength training to tone up my arm, thighs and stomach. They're all still a little bit wobbly. That's so good that you got the measurements before and current too. Wish I'd done that!

@Ohyesthankyouglitter - half a stone is not much at all! Looking forward to hearing how you get on. I'm off on holiday in less than 2 weeks so let's see where I get to before I go and if I'm able to moderate my eating when I'm away.

Ohyesthankyouglitter · 20/06/2023 06:24

Week 0: 11st 13.75
Week 1: 11st 10.5
Week 2: 11st 13.5

Loss: 0.25lb
10lb in 8 wks target progress = 2.5%

I'd expected an increase this week but not that much!😂
It's TOTM too, so not overly perplexed.

@Kimball, that's really impressive, any kind of loss, if you're feeling ill 💐

Have been listening to some Tim Spector interviews and learning about gut health - absolutely fascinating.

Ohyesthankyouglitter · 20/06/2023 06:25

@ithinkicanithinkican that's so encouraging to read those measurements!!

kimball · 26/06/2023 00:44

Week 10 - 64.5 kg (10 st 2.2 lbs) loss of 1 kg (2.2 lbs)

Putting this down to post period weight loss. I've been eating more this week. Most days I have had 2 meals (and some days these are quite far apart), so my fasting window was less than 14 hrs on 2 occasions.

I did go back to exercising more after I started to feel better, so I am sure that helped. I go away on Saturday so I plan to do another weigh in then. My hope for the 4 weeks away is to just maintain around the 65 kg mark - I really hope I don't undo the good work by eating too much. I know we will be doing a lot more walking when we're in Europe but we will be moving around a lot so not sure about access to scales, the effects of jet lag, break from normal daily routine, etc. and how I will cope with not weighing everyday.

My mini stepper machine, hula hoop and hand weights have become part of my daily routine but obviously and sadly I can't take them with me so I have resolved to do these wall pilates exercises that keep flooding my IG feed. Failing that I am going to learn to skip rope and I also bought a set of resistance bands so I am determined to switch it up but stay on course with my exercises. My DH has been trying to teach me to skip rope properly for years so perhaps finally I should pay attention to him. 😬

For motivation on maintaining I have downloaded the Laid Back Guide to Intermittent Fasting by Kayla Cox and subscribed to her podcast. I do feel it helps me to stay in the mindset to listen to audiobooks about health and weight loss.

I also had not realised how close to 10 stones I am getting and I am so happy as my pre baby weight was just under 10 stones and that was about 10 years ago. I have to say at a similar weight my body is so different now than it was when I was in my early 30s. Carrying my 2 babies ruined my boobs and bottom!!! I took a bath with my youngest and she asked me why my boobs look so sad. I didn't know if I should laugh or cry. When I get to England I definitely have to hit M&S for new bras.

Hope everyone is doing well and I would love to hear how you're all getting on.

Have been listening to some Tim Spector interviews and learning about gut health - absolutely fascinating.

Gut health is fascinating! I listened to Eat Smarter by Shawn Stevenson and made quite a few small but intentional changes to what I eat. The other 2 books I would really recommend are Ultra Processed People and Glucose Revolution. DH and I have made the small habit changes as advised in the Glucose book and have felt so, so much better.

The UPF book was also so informative (and terrifying) and really makes me think more about how I shop at the supermarket. If you have time I think these are definitely worth listening to!

Wassa123 · 26/06/2023 00:57

I've lost my postpartum weight in 4 weeks on both occasions. This is what I did at high school too. It works every time for me but requires dedication.

If you Google: 30 day ab challenge and click on images you will see a 30 day workout for abs. Basically do that challenge and all the others.

So I would do the 30 day ab, shoulder, back, leg, bums ect challenge every day or every other day if that part of my body ached. Add in 100 skips if you want to eat more during the day.

I didn't particularly diet. I just replaced my end of the day dessert with dark chocolate and green tea. I also ate reasonably well in the day.

I gain muscle quickly so I don't know if this just works for me. I like that it's a "challenge" and I can see my body being able to do more and more. My metabolism definitely increases too which is great. I also hate dieting and don't believe in it so this is good for someone who likes to eat and wants a more long term weight loss. Also no gym and little equipment is required.

Ohyesthankyouglitter · 26/06/2023 09:36

@Wassa123 - that's interesting. I've been doing the alphabet core challenge (where you lie on your back and trace the letters of the alphabet with your legs raised) - it's been amazing. I think you're right - small changes in movement can make a real difference.

@kimball - that's my summer reading you've given me haha! My husband has started making kombucha - not sure if that will last long term as it's quite a labour of love, but I agree, some of these diet nudges in a different direction are really significant. I love how my palette is changing.

Pleased with that, as the weekend has involved plenty of eating and drinking :)

kimball · 03/07/2023 02:56

Hi all! I am now on holiday and have no idea how much I weigh. Before I left on Saturday I weighed 64.2 kg (10 st 1.5 lbs) which means I lost just under 10 kg or roughly 1.5 stones in 10 weeks!

I didn't think it would be possible but logging the weight down here every week really helped keep me on track.

Now I'm going to try not to go crazy with eating. Will still keep checking back here and would love to hear how everyone is doing! 😍

Ohyesthankyouglitter · 04/07/2023 08:28

@kimball , I've only just clocked a message you wrote last week about what kind of exercise you had been doing daily. You're so close to 10st! Am inspired by your little daily exercises. Hope the holiday is going well.

It's been a bit of a crap time here. Last week 3 of were hit by a virus. I found myself eating waaaaay more than I had been - I think partly for because of the energy lack, but also I think I felt a bit low - and was craving comfort.
So weighed myself yesterday and I'm up 2lb from last week. I'm too disheartened to put that into my % !!!

Holiday is now only 2.5 weeks away. I'm starting to feel a bit better so this week I hope to return to normal exercise/eating, rather than just continue in the slump of this last week. Will report in how it goes!

ithinkicanithinkican · 12/07/2023 07:52

Hi everyone - I've been away visiting family in the USA for a couple of weeks, just back yesterday. Ate lots of nice things while I was away so was slightly dreading the scale this morning, but was pleasantly surprised! Was 9 st 8.5 when I left, and was 9 st 10 just now. So it could definitely have been a lot worse! So 3 lbs to get me back to my target weight of 9st 7.

Hope the rest of you are doing ok - holiday season is a tough one for sticking to healthy eating plans!
