Lose 1 stone in 6 weeks - any tips?

195 replies

CandleRigg89 · 12/04/2023 17:45

Hey everyone! My DS is two at the end of May and we have some guests coming from overseas that we haven’t seen in years. I’m still holding on to about 20lbs of weight from having my son that wasn’t there when they last saw me.

Im using his party as a kick up the bum to lose some of the weight, and have set a stone as a realistic number. Does anyone have any tips or diets you’ve used that have worked for this kind of weight loss??

thanks!

Pretty much having the same experience. Difficult week - I had a lot of commitments that I couldn't get out of so had to eat when I really would have preferred not to. Expecting to see no loss this week which I am sad about, but knowing that I increased my exercise yesterday and today. Let's help each other through this funk and stay motivated! A good week usually follows a bad one!

Sukiesue12 · 30/04/2023 17:37

I have had the same this week. So not hopeful but can start again now! I did up my exercise but my calorie count has been not great

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 30/04/2023 18:26

I've now lost 1 stone 6lbs in 13 weeks!

Ohyesthankyouglitter · 30/04/2023 20:58

Oh well done @teaandtoastwithmarmite ! how do you feel???
Well done @Restlessinthenorth , you're an inspiration - weekends have been my hardest.

Feel a bit frustrated with myself - that's 3 days where I've eaten crap, after two weeks of being really 'on it'. Wonder if hormones are also at play too.

Urgh, back to it tomorrow I suppose. Might wait a few days before I weigh myself 😂
@kimball @Sukiesue12 , baby steps, let's not give up !!

CountlesScreamingArgonauts · 30/04/2023 21:17

I'm another one with a weekend of eating crap behind me. I've really noticed how low I feel when I eat rubbish. Back on the healthy eating train tomorrow!

kimball · 01/05/2023 00:41

Week 2Weigh in:
Wk 0 = 74 kg
Wk 1 = 72.8
Wk 2 = 72.1

Loss = 1.9 kg = 4.2 lbs

1 stone in 6 wks' target progress = 29.9%

I'm actually happy and relieved with this as I was expecting to see no change or even a small gain. I'll draw a line under this week and start again. Hang in there everyone!

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 01/05/2023 09:05

Thank you! I feel great but still for a long way to go so need to not get frustrated. I got two compliments about it yesterday which was nice

kimball · 01/05/2023 16:10

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 30/04/2023 18:26

I've now lost 1 stone 6lbs in 13 weeks!

That's amazing! I am looking to lose a similar amount overall. Can you share if it's been consistent loss over the 13 weeks or more up and down. The compliments are well deserved - that is an impressive number.

So far no-one has noticed my whopping 4 lb loss. 😂

Restlessinthenorth · 02/05/2023 10:12

Morning all

Just been weighed (a day late but never mind!). 3lb off this week! Happy with that, and nice to be back in the 10's, rather than the 11's, though really can't notice any difference yet! But 5lb down since I joined this thread, it's definitely better than 5 on!

So I'm feeling really motivated for the week ahead. I have a very boozy/food heavy event on Saturday, but other than that, I aim to be totally on it, in the hope I'll still achieve some kind of loss a week today.

Ohyesthankyouglitter · 03/05/2023 07:59

Well done @kimball and @Restlessinthenorth 👏👏👏

I had a better day yesterday after four days break. I think I've lost a bit of confidence in my capacity to be moderate during bank holiday weekends 😬- so with another one coming up I think I'll have to make myself a plan. Was wondering about buying some treat-sized Maltesers so that I could have a little bag, but no more.

One thing I did do, though, is try on a summer skirt that I suspected would be tight (and it was). I'm not going to try it on for a fortnight and see if there's any difference in fit.

I didn't enjoy over-indulging at the weekend, but I did enjoy that feeling of being really full :)

kimball · 03/05/2023 10:47

@Ohyesthankyouglitter
Thank you! After the small loss I've been pretty motivated to do better this week. I also have a problem with moderation so I sympathise and it does sound like a sensible plan.

@Restlessinthenorth - amazing result!

Ohyesthankyouglitter · 03/05/2023 20:50

Inspired by your husband @kimball , I've done a couple of days of 20:4, or even 22:2, and actually haven't found them that difficult. I don't think I'd do it every day, but 2/3 times a week?

Feel slightly discouraged tonight as it's weigh in tomorrow and I'm anticipating a gain - partly because I had quite a salty dinner (but obviously mainly because of the weekend!), so feel a bit bloated.

CountlesScreamingArgonauts · 04/05/2023 06:57

I'm a couple of weeks in to 16:8 and in the last few days I've been finding it much easier. But I've paid for my weekend indulgences - a pound up. So still hovering in the mid 11s. Its really hard for me to get below 11 st 5 these days and I wonder if its to do with perimenopause.

Ohyesthankyouglitter · 04/05/2023 14:16

@CountlesScreamingArgonauts - what sort of weight are you aiming for? a pound up isn't as bad as it could be, but understand your pain!

Sister's wedding is 3wks on Saturday and I found myself a little demoralised this morning that I'm unlikely to lose more than 5-6lb in that time. So, I'm going to up my game, just for the next three weeks, shorten my eating window, cut out alcohol, lower carb.

This morning I weighed myself and came it as the same as this time last week (12st 2.5)- so overall not awful, but it's focussed my attention a little. My husband is going to join me, which I think will help. Roll on cauliflower rice!

Restlessinthenorth · 05/05/2023 06:15

@Ohyesthankyouglitter don't be disheartened! Your plan sounds like a solid short term fix. Obviously not something you want to do permanently but for a short term goal...go for it! You have the wedding as a reward afterwards!

CountlesScreamingArgonauts · 05/05/2023 11:28

@Ohyesthankyouglitter I'm aiming for 10st 8, I think. Perhaps a but more once I get there, depending on how I feel. You're right about the pesky pound, its not the end of the world! I am weighing fairly frequently so I do see ups and downs, but I know once I have been at it a bit longer the graph will show a downward trend, complete with fluctuations.

I'd do the same in your shoes, with a big event to aim for. Zero alcohol and sugar, very low carb, up the exercise... maybe not sustainable in the longer term but worth it for the wedding. How is your water intake? Can you up it at all?

ithinkicanithinkican · 05/05/2023 13:18

Annoying plateau week this week! I was 10 st 0.9 last Fri, so my only real goal for this week was to see a figure starting with a 9 - surely losing less than a pound wasn't too much to hope for? I was quite hungry this week as well, more so than previous weeks, but I stood firm. So what do I see on the scale this morning? 10 st 0.7! Grrrr. Hey ho, maybe next Friday!

Restlessinthenorth · 06/05/2023 08:32

@ithinkicanithinkican keep going! I think it's helpful to remember it's never linear...those loses will come!

So I just hopped on the scales, even though Tuesday is my weigh day. I thought if I know what I am before I go out drinking/eating today, then I'll understand the impact of that coke weigh day on Tuesday. Shocked to say I'm another 2.5lb down from tuesday! So that's 8lb I'm just under 3 weeks, and well into the 10's. I know this weekend (and next...which is going to be worse!) is going to impact, but at least I know this plan is working. I'm about 10lb now from my ideal weight and for the first time in so long, it feels achievable!

ithinkicanithinkican · 06/05/2023 09:11

Thanks @Restlessinthenorth - out of curiosity, I weighed again this morning and it said 9 st 13.7 so I saw my 9! Well done on your progress this week too!

Ohyesthankyouglitter · 06/05/2023 17:12

Well done @ithinkicanithinkican ! breaking into the 9s must feel great!
@Restlessinthenorth , 2.5lb since Tues is amazing! Hope today is really fun.

I'm doing really well this weekend - since my wake up call earlier in the week I'm just determined not to sink into normal weekend habits. Had people for a coronation lunch but because it was so busy no one really noticed that my plate was mostly salad, so think I'm on track.
Am having fish and chips tomorrow night (which I love), so that's good motivation to be quite restrained the rest of the time.

Yes @CountlesScreamingArgonauts , I've upped the water, lowered the carbs (not completely cut them out), and am being active. Really enjoying it, hopeful that the scales show a shift later in the week.

CandleRigg89 · 07/05/2023 07:58

Hey everyone! Just an update - I’ve lost 6lbs! Sticking to 1400 and walking a bit more! Not sure if I’ll hit my goal but fingers crossed!

Restlessinthenorth · 07/05/2023 11:29

Well done @CandleRigg89 that's great. Keep going!

kimball · 08/05/2023 00:40

Week 3 Weigh in:
Wk 0 = 74 kg
Wk 1 = 72.8
Wk 2 = 72.1
Wk 3 = 70.6

Loss = 3.4 kg = 7.4 lbs

1 stone in 6 wks' target progress = 53.4%

Hi everyone! Right on target at the half way point. I started off last week so well and then social commitments got in the way from Thursday but I am satisfied with the overall outcome. I had a very lean but salty meal when eating out and the number the next day was horrifying. It took 2-3 days to unbloat myself. So glad to hear about everyone’s progress and really think sharing here is keeping me on track.

@CandleRigg89 - That’s amazing! Keep it going.
@ithinkicanithinkican - what a feeling that must be to break into the next stone. I cannot wait to be in the 60’s (kg)
@Ohyesthankyouglitter - I managed to go hard at the beginning of the week as well and also didn’t find it too bad. There was one night where I was hungry but I managed to talk myself down from raiding the cupboards. My OH has upped the ante again after listening to a podcast about controlling your insulin so he’s not eating any sweets 6 days a week and we got the kids on the regime as well, much to their protest, but I’m totally on board with less sugar. He has not lost much more weight according to the scales, but he looks visibly smaller in the stomach area. Glad to hear your husband is joining you on the weight loss journey.
@Restlessinthenorth - that was a great number on Saturday. 10lbs is not far out of reach at all.
@CountlesScreamingArgonauts - I get stuck around certain weights too. It’s so irritating. I really wonder why that is. Since my last pregnancy the barrier seems to be around 69 kg. I get there and then can’t get below, get disheartened and just lose the plot. I wonder if it’s seeing that 60’s and then being happy and then letting my guard down.

I forgot who said about progress not always being linear - it’s a good reminder and I will try and look at the overall picture. I feel like I’m going to get my period this week so I’m waiting to see how this affects the weight loss journey. Anyway, cannot wait to hear more about all of your progress.

ithinkicanithinkican · 08/05/2023 09:06

Thanks @Ohyesthankyouglitter and @kimball! Yes, seeing the 9 was a good moment and keeps me going - half a stone to go! I had given myself a target of the end of June as I'm going abroad to visit family that I haven't seen since 2020, and I always work better towards a goal 😊. So it's definitely feeling do-able! Congrats to everyone on their progress, and a good reminder re salt and bloating there too.

I'm the same. I've been carrying baby weight and my baby is 2.5 years old! I'm doing Fast 800 at the minute. After the first few days, it's actually been really easy so far. Plus, it's really encouraging me to get more vegetables in. I definitely feel healthier and more vibrant so far.

I'm still carrying baby weight too, but my baby is 21 🤣
