Lose 1 stone in 6 weeks - any tips?

Hey everyone! My DS is two at the end of May and we have some guests coming from overseas that we haven’t seen in years. I’m still holding on to about 20lbs of weight from having my son that wasn’t there when they last saw me.

Im using his party as a kick up the bum to lose some of the weight, and have set a stone as a realistic number. Does anyone have any tips or diets you’ve used that have worked for this kind of weight loss??

thanks!

I have lost 1 stone and 1 1/2 lb in 3 weeks on Ozempic. I did not feel hungry once.

Have you read about the side effects

My GP put me on Ozempic. I have not had any side effects and it has stabilised my blood sugar.

Morning folks! Had my weigh in 2.5lb. I know this is a healthy loss but a tad disappointed! I've hit my steps each day, stuck to my calories (1200) and been successful with intermittent fasting, so really hoped for a bit more. But hey ho, ready for another week and will hope for the same if not better next week

Ohyesthankyouglitter · 24/04/2023 08:50

Starting weight (14.4.23): 12st 6.5
Target weight: 11st 7
Current weight: 12st 4.5

Same loss as when I weighed last Thursday - slightly disappointed but perhaps that's why there's wisdom in not weighing yourself too often!!

Well done @kimball and @Weelegs29 . Kimball, absolutely love your percentage!! I might work mine out.

Welcome @Sukiesue12 ! Do you eat dairy? Hard boiled egg is my go-to snack :)

Ohyesthankyouglitter · 24/04/2023 14:36

Sorry @Restlessinthenorth , didn't see your post.
Yes, any normal week a 2lb loss would have been excellent, but I think for the first week I'd hoped for more.

kimball · 25/04/2023 16:57

Well done everyone.

@Ohyesthankyouglitter , @Restlessinthenorth and @Weelegs29
Those losses are great!

From my own previous dieting experience, my weight loss is slow in the beginning and then it will speed up and I'm highly motivated and then plateau will kick in. That's when I struggle to push through and fall off the wagon.

On the subject of frequency of weighing I always avoid the scales when I expect to see numbers I know I will not be happy with and this usually makes things worse. I'm an emotional eater so when I start to gain weight I avoid the scales and start comfort eating to try and improve my mood/avoid the problem and then it just spirals. For now, it helps to weigh myself everyday as it keeps me in the mindset of weight loss. On a day with a gain or small loss I try to step back and just focus on the difference to date from day 1.

I have PCOS and carbs are my number 1 enemy so I'm trying my best to avoid eating too much pasta/rice and potatoes which has been hard. I'm turning 42 this year and this weight loss thing gets harder and harder with age, but I hope hearing everyone's progress on this thread will be the support that I need when the going gets tough.

Hope all of you are having a good week and look forward to hearing about your weight loss journeys.

PS. Hubby who is doing extreme IF seems to have hit a plateau but he looks better even though the scales are not showing a loss. His belly looks flatter and his skin is glowing and looking healthy.

Morning everyone

Not much to report, other that I am still totally on plan so that feels positive. I've hung some clothes that I want to get back into on my wardrobe for a bit of a visual prompt. Planned in an afternoon out with food and drinks a week on Saturday as a bit of a reward, so hoping to stay "on it" as much as possible till then

Hope everyone else is doing ok

Ohyesthankyouglitter · 26/04/2023 10:19

It does help to know, doesn't it @kimball, what rhythm of weighing is most helpful. I think I'll try and weigh less (only weekly) and more focus on how good my body feels when I've not eaten guff.

@Restlessinthenorth - that's a good target to aim for (a week on Saturday).
One thing I'm trying to work out is how to have that 'treat' feeling without accidentally scoffing two days worth of calories in one go. We're having a curry on Friday night, and what I love most about curry is the enormous amount of naan and poppadoms!! It's like I need to decide what I am going to eat before I get to it, as it's all so delicious when it's in front of you.

Restlessinthenorth · 26/04/2023 10:34

@Ohyesthankyouglitter I think it's worth remembering that to gain a lb, you would need to eat an additional 3000 calories above the total you normally require. One large meal won't do that! Any extra weight will be salt, water etc. so I'm going to enjoy without guilt! No point doing this if we can't live a little too

I actually went out for a curry dinner tonight with the family. After reading what @Restlessinthenorth said I decided to allow myself to eat what I wanted but just to be mindful of the portion size.

It was absolutely delicious but I felt full so quickly and didn't eat nearly as much as I had planned to. In the car I felt quite ill and my apple watch beeped saying my resting heart beat was high. I had not had rich food in 2 weeks and perhaps it was just too much.

Now I feel that I got some cravings out of my system and I have had my 'treat' and I feel ok with going back to the healthy eating regime again. Good luck everyone and keep up the good work.

Ohyesthankyouglitter · 26/04/2023 20:10

@kimball, that's interesting, about how quickly our bodes adapt.
@Restlessinthenorth , thanks for that reminder. I'm so focussed at the moment that I am kind of in that mindset of thinking every rich tea biscuit I eat will add on 3lb 😆. Excited for curry :)

Even though the scales only had me down by 2lb, I definitely feel trimmer. I'm tempted to get out a couple of summer dresses that I think will be tight, so that I have something to compare it to in a few week's time.

Restlessinthenorth · 27/04/2023 06:33

@Ohyesthankyouglitter I agree with you....even though only a few lb down, I can absolutely see a difference around my middle, which is quite motivating!

Yesterday wasn't perfect...think I was just too low cal in the day and was literally starving at night. I ended up with a few snacks which isn't the plan, but not going to worry too much, as I'd say the day was still pretty low cal overall.

I have a leaving coffee for a colleague mid morning today. The place we are going does lovely food so my mission is to resit!

Clementineorsatsuma · 27/04/2023 07:15

@HeyMicky is that a typo? Aim to burn 2500 cals a day through exercise?! Running a marathon burns 2600.

So a woman's calorie needs are circa 2000 a day- you're advocating cutting that to1200 plus exercising 2500?! Deficit of 3300? Per day?

Must be a typo! Presume you mean 250?

HeyMicky · 27/04/2023 07:27

@Clementineorsatsuma No, total daily expenditure, of course.

Duckyneedsaclean · 27/04/2023 07:30

Keto and walk an hour a day.

Yeah I was wondering that? I burn 700 plus calories a day through exercise , more at weekends but unless you can exercise 8 hours a day I don’t see how you can burn 2500.

Ohyesthankyouglitter · 27/04/2023 10:21

@Restlessinthenorth - that actually happened to me yesterday too, don't think I ate enough during day, so suddenly it's 8.30pm and I'm eating choc peanuts 😆

I weighed today:

Starting weight (14.4.23): 12st 6.5
Target weight: 11st 7
Current weight: 12st 2.25

So that's a 2lb loss from last week. Feels good to have lost 4lb overall. Would absolutely love love love to make it into the 11sts next week, so feeling pretty motivated.

CountlesScreamingArgonauts · 27/04/2023 12:20

I'm still firmly on this weight loss wagon, though finding it hard. I'm hungry all the time, but learning to live with it.

I've been weighing every day for focus but it is weird how much I fluctuate! A couple of days ago I was a couple of pounds up for no apparent reason, then down again. Overall, I've lost 2lb in the last week.

SW 11st 13
TW 10st 13 (initially - I'd ideally like to lose a few more but am focused on the stone in 6 weeks target to begin with )

I wonder if what @HeyMicky is saying is that you have active and passive calories. On my apple watch I have the calories goals which are active (for a lack of better word) but if I open the Fitness app on the iphone, it shows the total calories burnt that day. For example I burnt 543 cals today exercising (same number as on apple watch) but the total calories burnt all day was 2,140.

kimball · 27/04/2023 14:14

@CountlesScreamingArgonauts @Ohyesthankyouglitter

Well done on those losses.

Hope you get into the 11's! That will be an amazing milestone.

I'm also vying to go below 70 kg. I've lived away so long I have somewhat lost the sense for stones and lbs and have to use a conversion app.

Exactly that. I didn't say "through exercise" 🤷🏼‍♀️ It was total consumption and expenditure

ithinkicanithinkican · 28/04/2023 08:55

Weekly weigh in this morning - 10 st 0.9 lbs. That's 12.5 lbs in 5.5 weeks - so pretty close to a stone in 6 weeks, so it seems it's doable! Just under 8 lbs to go to hit target weight of 9 st 7. Using Nutracheck (other apps are available) has been a real eye-opener and helpful in making long-term changes in healthy eating and drinking habits, I must say, particularly in relation to carbohydrates and also the calories in sweet stuff - I know it sounds obvious, but when you consciously realise that 4 squares (1 strip) of a bar of chocolate is 100 calories, and I'd previously found it easy to scoff half a large bar over the course of a day, the penny drops!

Bordey · 28/04/2023 09:06

Joining! Same goal/time frame. Exercise and calorie counting keeps things in check. I just need to get back on check!! Stopped logging calories and started eating more.

Ohyesthankyouglitter · 30/04/2023 11:21

How's everyone getting on this weekend? I'm not finding it easy at all. A few different reasons - a couple of social needs to eat (where I would have been happy not to), and generally feeling quite weak willed!! argggh. It's so hard!!

Restlessinthenorth · 30/04/2023 14:08

Weekend has been ok for me but can't feel much change, feeling a little disheartened. The scales will tell tomorrow I guess! Looking forward to an afternoon off next Saturday....it's keeping me on track
