Lose 1 stone in 6 weeks - any tips?

Hey everyone! My DS is two at the end of May and we have some guests coming from overseas that we haven’t seen in years. I’m still holding on to about 20lbs of weight from having my son that wasn’t there when they last saw me.

Im using his party as a kick up the bum to lose some of the weight, and have set a stone as a realistic number. Does anyone have any tips or diets you’ve used that have worked for this kind of weight loss??

thanks!

Hello everyone.

ok so I arrived back to Heathrow at 8am and feel shocking!!!!! The good news is I’ve only put on a kg on a two week holiday in the states.

that means I’m 80.6kg today.

is monday our weigh in day?

AuroraForever · 17/04/2023 19:41

Have a look on channel 4 catch up for Lose a Stone in 21 days. It’s inspired me and DH to throw out every single item of junk, fizzy and processed foods and start the 5:2. We did the Fast 800 for about a week to kick things off and transitioned straight into 5:2. Brilliant so far, very easy to do, the meals from the books are amazing.

Restlessinthenorth · 18/04/2023 06:24

Morning everyone. Yesterday went to lan. But the bullet and got on the scales. Intermittent fast, lots of water 1200 calls and 10000 steps.

Aiming for exactly the same today. How did yesterday go for everyone else?

Ohyesthankyouglitter · 18/04/2023 09:28

Morning all - had a good first proper day yesterday. Felt so good!

Didn't sleep well, so am slightly apprehensive about how today will go.

I can easily imagine a 16:8 type rhythm being my new normal - I suppose I'm wondering whether I should try something more drastic in the short term to try and get this stone off.

@AuroraForever how far are you into your 21 day challenge?
@FattyAl think I'm going to weigh on Thursday or Fridays - but really keen to post on here to keep track. Well done on not gorging on holiday!

AbsoIutelyLovely · 18/04/2023 09:29

KETO

i am 49 and think I’ve lost about a stone in three weeks. On holiday so I can’t check but my jeans are getting longer and longer…..my waist has definitely gone down a by 2-3 inches

I have a similar plan to yours but might try to do 18:6 as husband has been doing 20:4 and the weight is literally falling off him.

I don't think I can keep track of calories but trying to avoid as much carbs as possibly and absolutely no unhealthy snacks.

Yesterday was day 1 and I did 12,000 steps and today just under 11,000. I slept horribly last night and mourned giving up my milky sweet coffee for a plain black coffee first thing this morning.

Are you all weighing yourself every day or once a week?

Ohyesthankyouglitter · 18/04/2023 21:07

I think I'll weigh myself once a week @Kimball, maybe on a Thursday? slightly random day, but I tend to eat a bit more over the weekend and have v v moderate days Mon/Tue so it's sort of in the middle of those two things!

Interested in your husband and 20:4 - what has his window tended to be? I can imagine doing that 3pm-7pm. The only problem with such a small window is exercise - I'd rather not exercise on a completely empty stomach.

kimball · 19/04/2023 00:26

He's eating between 4-8pm. He usually plays tennis or padel around 6 so he has a very late lunch and then eats another small meal when he finishes his game. I think he's lost over a stone in 2 months and he still eats chocolate and crisps in his window!

Ohyesthankyouglitter · 19/04/2023 08:01

Interesting @kimball - does he do it 7 days a week?

Weighed myself just now -

Starting weight (14.4.23): 12st 6.5
Target weight: 11st 7
Current weight: 12st 4.5

Am happy with a 2lb loss so far :)

Restlessinthenorth · 19/04/2023 08:13

M going to weigh Mondays in the hope it sort of keeps me on track over the weekend! Heading into day 3 feeling positive, keep trying to visualise how different I will feel in just 4 weeks if I keep consistent!

kimball · 19/04/2023 10:25

@Ohyesthankyouglitter
There are the odd days he can't stick to it, for example, when he has lunch meetings with clients, but on the whole he does stick to it. He's given up alcohol too and he plays tennis at a good level so his exercise is intense (unlike mine, sadly).

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 21/04/2023 07:23

I’ve been terrible the last few days. Am determined to be properly on it from now on, especially as I’ve put on so much weight that none of my work clothes fit 😱
When is our weigh in day?

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 21/04/2023 07:40

We’re having a family get together for the coronation and I’ve decided I want 4kg off by then.

Ohyesthankyouglitter · 21/04/2023 08:48

@Clettercletterthatsbetter - I think we're doing different weigh in days- but I'm tempted to do a Monday like @Restlessinthenorth , to inspire me to stick to it over the weekend (my downfall).

Coronation is a good target.

I've had a good week, food wise - helped by having a sinus infection which has made my mouth sore 😂. Yesterday for lunch I had two boiled eggs, slice of toast and some tomatoes. I was amazed to find myself really satisfied afterwards, and not wanting more. I didn't even think about eating until dinner time - such a difference- feels like some of the highs and lows of energy are flattening out already.

CountlesScreamingArgonauts · 21/04/2023 13:26

Please can I join? I'm in the same timeframe, and would also like to lose a stone, because I want to kick start my weight loss and enjoy my summer clothes.

I have actually lost 6lb in the last week, BUT I first weighed in just before my period was due so I had massive water retention. Since Monday I've been doing 16:8 with 2 800 cal fasting days.

I'm eating high protein, low carbs, and high fibre, and drinking 2 litres of water a day plus a lot of herbal tea. Run 15-20k a week, 1 yoga class and one pilates class. Feeling motivated! I hope everyone is prepared for staying focused over the weekend!

Restlessinthenorth · 21/04/2023 14:27

Hi everyone!

Heading into the weekend and feeling quite confident! Meals planned for the weekend. Tonight is a bit of a treat but only one I will have had in 7 days, so I'm comfortable with that! Then straight back at it tomorrow! I'm really hoping for 3lb off on Monday as a bit of a motivator but who knows? Sometimes I find it helpful to weigh over 21 days rather than get focused on week to week losses.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend ahead

ithinkicanithinkican · 22/04/2023 10:12

Hello - just sharing in case it's helpful. I've lost 9 lbs in a month since 21 March, I started at 10 st 13.4 lbs, and yesterday (21 April) I was 10 st 4.3 lbs. I'm doing calorie counting and lower carb - I'm aiming for between 800-1000 cals per day and avoiding alcohol, sweet stuff, pasta, rice, bread products, potatoes etc. I'm a person who needs breakfast, so having low fat Greek yoghurt with berries, flaked almonds etc. I'm finding I'm eating a lot of soups or salads for lunch, and protein/veg/salads for dinner. Don't plan on staying this low cal forever, but it's been a useful kickstart! I'm 53 and perimenopausal. I've been using Nutracheck, which I find really helpful, and I count absolutely everything - we have a wee scale which means more accurate figures. Aiming for 9 st 7 eventually, so 11 lbs to go! We have dogs so I do a minimum of 40 minutes walking per day, more at the weekends. I do yoga. And I only weigh myself once a week - I have found in that past that it's easy to get discouraged if you weigh too often and don't see much change. Someone posted a pic in a post on MN this week of a graph of their weight loss over a longer period of time, and seeing the ups and downs within an overall downward trajectory was great. It's really not easy after turning 50, but this week I had the delightful experience of fitting into a pair of trousers I haven't worn for ages because they had become too tight and uncomfortable - they now fit again! That was very motivating!

CountlesScreamingArgonauts · 22/04/2023 10:32

@ithinkicanithinkican thanks for sharing and congratulations on your weight loss! Your plan sounds sensible and sustainable and close to what I'm aiming for, except I don't eat breakfast - well I do, but much later in the day.

I'm interested in what you say about weighing weekly, I have been weighing daily this week to stay focused but perhaps it would be better to do it once a week.

11st 6 this morning. Another lb off 😊

caringcarer · 22/04/2023 10:39

I have lost 1 stone and 1 1/2 lb in 3 weeks on Ozempic. I did not feel hungry once.

caringcarer · 22/04/2023 10:40

Go high protein, low carbs and lowish fat.

Sukiesue12 · 23/04/2023 10:50

Can I join? Currently 12 stone 11 and would like to be 10 stone 5 to put my BMI in the middle of the healthy range. I am hoping that if I go hard (with you all!) for 6 weeks I can then continue to finally get down to that weight. As a veggie, does anyone have tips for upping protein without upping carbs?

Gettingbysomehow · 23/04/2023 11:04

Exante - you'll lose a stone a month guaranteed. Its hard work though.

Weelegs29 · 23/04/2023 18:50

Week 1 weigh in yesterday- 2lbs down delighted!

kimball · 24/04/2023 00:31

Week 1 Weigh in:
Wk 0 = 74 kg
Wk 1 = 72.8

Loss = 1.2 kg = 2.6lbs

1 stone in 6 wks' target progress = 18.6%

I managed to do IF at 18:6 or better but cracked on Saturday. Failed to do 10,000 steps for 2 days. Ate healthily for the most part but Saturday it all went a little pear shaped. Glad to see a loss overall and cannot wait to see everyone's progress!

I'm in Asia btw so my Monday has begun. Smile
