Lose 1 stone in 6 weeks - any tips?

195 replies

CandleRigg89 · 12/04/2023 17:45

Hey everyone! My DS is two at the end of May and we have some guests coming from overseas that we haven’t seen in years. I’m still holding on to about 20lbs of weight from having my son that wasn’t there when they last saw me.

Im using his party as a kick up the bum to lose some of the weight, and have set a stone as a realistic number. Does anyone have any tips or diets you’ve used that have worked for this kind of weight loss??

thanks!

@Kimball, that's absolutely brilliant progress.

I'm still on track. There has been a few 'social' meals this weekend, but it doesn't feel like it's railroaded me. I 22:2 day yesterday (before my fish and chips) and actually felt great all day, climbed a hill, walked miles and didn't suffer. It's absolutely incredible what the human body can I - I imagine I need a snickers bar before I even think about exercise 😅.

Am LOVING fewer sugar cravings, makes life so much easier. Really hopeful that this week will see me into the 11sts , first time in years. Like you @Restlessinthenorth , I'm actually starting to believe I can get down to my target (which is 11st 3-5), although probably not in the next two weeks....

Flufz · 08/05/2023 16:53

am I too late to join? Starting weight 10:10

CountlesScreamingArgonauts · 08/05/2023 20:20

Hello @Flufz! Yes, join in 😊

I have had an indulgent weekend but all within my calorie allowance. This restricted eating time regime is getting easier. But i am nowhere near 22:2, @Ohyesthankyouglitter! I won't weigh in until later in the week. Hoping I'll see a positive change when I do.

Restlessinthenorth · 09/05/2023 09:46

Well I'm absolutely gutted! Got on the scales this morning and am showing 3lb heavier than I weighed on Friday morning! How can one afternoon off have caused this?! I was literally straight back at it on Sunday.

Oh well, I guess it's never linear...

Ohyesthankyouglitter · 09/05/2023 10:04

@Restlessinthenorth oh that's horrible!

I don't know enough about anything to know how long the bulk of our food stays in our bodies for, and how long the extra water that comes with salt/sugar takes to shift.

It can't actually be real weight, can it??

Sorry to hear this. The same thing happened to me after one of my meals this week. It was a kimchi soup which was basically kimchi, tofu and some sliced pork in broth. The day after, I had gained over a kilo too and it took 3 days to go back down. In the following days I ate a lot of dark green vegetables like spinach, chinese cabbage to get the diuretic effect. I didn't know but my Korean friend told me some restaurants use a lot of msg and since this dish in particular was extra delicious I assume they had used some to make it.

Ohyesthankyouglitter · 11/05/2023 07:11

Starting weight (14.4.23): 12st 6.5
Target weight: 11st 7
Current weight: 11st 12.5

Managed to lose a whopping 4lb this week 🤗- but I have been really strict.
Have a birthday and a wedding this weekend so plenty social eating events coming up, don't anticipate the same loss again, but glad to have gone for it this last week, to make up for the no-loss the week before.

ithinkicanithinkican · 11/05/2023 08:22

@Ohyesthankyouglitter Congratulations, that's a big jump! Enjoy your social events.

I weighed a day early today as I've got a hectic few days ahead, and happy to see 9 st 12 - only 5 lbs to go! Might need to up my calories a bit this weekend though to get me through the hectic bit - hopefully maintenance rather than gaining though.

ithinkicanithinkican · 11/05/2023 08:23

@Restlessinthenorth Hope you're doing okay this week and not too disheartened by the previous one.

ithinkicanithinkican · 11/05/2023 08:25

Hi @Flufz Welcome!

CountlesScreamingArgonauts · 11/05/2023 09:38

Well done, @Ohyesthankyouglitter , that's a big jump in the right direction!

Is anyone on track to lose a stone in 6 weeks?

ithinkicanithinkican · 11/05/2023 10:31

Hi @CountlesScreamingArgonauts - I pretty nearly did, something like 13 lbs in 6 weeks.

Restlessinthenorth · 11/05/2023 10:41

@Ohyesthankyouglitter that's amazing progress!

@ithinkicanithinkican thank you. I was a bit annoyed for a few days but back in the game now!

I'm back down to my weight before my afternoon off, however I have a weekend away this weekend which will be booze and food heavy so likely to undo it again! I'm not going to stress about it tho...it's been 18 months in the planning! So back at it as soon as I'm home

Ohyesthankyouglitter · 11/05/2023 15:47

@ithinkicanithinkican - well done - 5lb feels really do-able.
@Restlessinthenorth well done for getting back to pre-Sat aft weight.

Weirdly, despite having a really good reading on the scales today, I'm feeling a little fed up this afternoon. I think I'd really pushed myself this last week (and actually enjoyed it, bizarrely), but now there still seems quite a long way to go. I'm aiming for 11st 7 during this 6wks with you all, but I'd actually like to land at 11st 3, so still have 9.5lb overall, and realistically I can imagine wanting to get down to 11st so that I had a little buffer.

Anyway - I'll keep plodding onwards.

Restlessinthenorth · 11/05/2023 16:32

@Ohyesthankyouglitter just try and think how many people would absolutely love to only have 9lb to lose! It's really achievable! I want to shift another 10lb on top of what I've already done, so let's just keep going! Chipping away!

CountlesScreamingArgonauts · 11/05/2023 19:39

Well done @ithinkicanithinkican , that's very impressive!

I've lost 8lb overall although have bounced around the half stone mark for a long time. I relaxed a bit last weekend but I dot think I can do that again without paying for it!

Lordofmyflies · 11/05/2023 20:26

I've done a stone weight loss in a month last month and hoping to do another stone in the 6 week block. I need to for medical reasons. I've been doing,
Smoothie for breakfast - kiwi, 1/2 banana, chai seeds, spinach and grapes
Black coffee
Lunch is a soup and a lentil rice cake
Dinner is a stir fry, meat and veg
Snacks are melon, mango, dates, edamame
Drinking lots of water
Walking for an hour a day or swimming
Whilst I'm in the zone, im happy but once the first 2 stone come off, I will go to a higher calorie plan

Ohyesthankyouglitter · 11/05/2023 21:43

@Lordofmyflies you're a pro!
@CountlesScreamingArgonauts I've lost 8lb too so far, so I guess I'm on track for 12lb in 6weeks rather than a stone - but I'll see how these final weeks go.
Thanks for the encouragement @Restlessinthenorth, I realised this evening that what I was actually feeling was regret - that I didn't start this earlier - even a couple of weeks. It's been easier than I thought it would be - I think I've spent the whole winter feeling powerless when it comes to what I eat, and so I wish I'd taken control earlier!

kimball · 12/05/2023 03:49

@Ohyesthankyouglitter - amazing result - well done! And I relate to the frustration with myself for waiting for so long before doing something about it.
@Flufz - welcome on board
@ithinkicanithinkican - how much in total do you plan to lose? I wanted to lose the first stone to kick start things but would love to lose a further 10lbs to really be at my pre motherhood weight.
@Restlessinthenorth have a great weekend away.
@Lordofmyflies - well done. That's an amazing feat in one month.

I got on the scales this morning and I'm under 70 kg and I'm so, so happy. I have friends visiting from UK this week who brought so many snacks I love as gifts and I will try my best to moderate my consumption of Monster Munch and chocolate oranges.

ithinkicanithinkican · 12/05/2023 08:32

@kimball I started out just shy of 11 stone and my goal is 9 st 7, so a stone and a half in total. Pre-middle age and perimenopause, I'd always been fairly slim so I feel a lot more 'myself' this way, if that makes sense.

Interesting the point about folks wishing they'd done it sooner - I've only actively tried to lose weight successfully a couple of times, but both times have been in the spring. I'm sure it's not a coincidence - think I'd struggle to find that motivation in winter!

Restlessinthenorth · 14/05/2023 16:41

Hope everyone has had a good weekend. Mine has been dreadful from a good and drink perspective but very good for the soul! So reset tomorrow, and going to leave it till a week on Tuesday to weigh in. Hopefully enough time to start to reverse the damage!

CountlesScreamingArgonauts · 14/05/2023 19:32

@Restlessinthenorth same here 🫣. I've had too many carbs but it was good to cook with the kids and eat together. I'm pretty strict in the week - maybe too strict - and that's why I feel the need to relax at the weekend. But I'm going to hide the scales until later in the week and give myself a few days to get back on track. I've been very active and have drunk loads of water so hopefully those things will help.

Ohyesthankyouglitter · 14/05/2023 20:55

Same here @Restlessinthenorth and @CountlesScreamingArgonauts - was at a wedding yesterday which was exceptionally well catered - absolutely delicious 😋Back on it today, so we'll see how the next few days go, before weighing in on Thursday.

kimball · 15/05/2023 00:54

Week 4 Weigh in:
Wk 0 = 74 kg
Wk 1 = 72.8
Wk 2 = 72.1
Wk 3 = 70.6
Wk 4 = 69.7

Loss = 4.3 kg = 9.4 lbs

1 stone in 6 wks' target progress = 67.64%

I'm delighted to be under 70 kg. Had a fairly good week. Only relaxed and ate whatever I wanted for 1 day. I got my period on Friday and haven't seen a loss since and was actually lighter than this last Thursday, so I'm going to put down the small loss to water retention.

Glad everyone had a good weekend with family and friends. I've also had friends visiting and it's not been easy resisting the temptation to stuff my face. They are here for another 4 days so I may relax a couple of days this week.

@ithinkicanithinkican my eventual goal is similar to you. Hopefully I can get there!

Keep on going everyone!

Ohyesthankyouglitter · 15/05/2023 13:06

Well done @kimball !!
