Thought I'd save you the hassle @poorpaws.

Well done for those who have lost and good luck to those struggling.

My focus at the moment is just to be wiser for food selection and to keep active. The slow moving scales can wait although I did check this morning and showing I'm nearly back to 14 and a half stone.

I've lost 3 pounds, so I'm down to 17 stone 4 now. It feels like I might hit 17 stone by the end of the month now but this week's loss is mostly due to a funeral (a friend's parent so one I was at to support, rather than a loss myself, thankfully) followed by that cough/ cold that's not covid but is pretty aggressive. So once I feel human again things might slow down.
@NoDairyNoProblem Your current weight is my next target, once I hit 17 stone, if that helps!

MrsComet · 13/01/2023 14:30

Please may I join you?

After feeling too big in all my clothes last summer I began loosing weight in September. Lasted for about two months and made good progress then binned it off completely at the start of December because of Christmas busyness.

I've not been on the scales since but I know I've eaten an awful lot of junk food and have barely moved around at all.

But there's a family wedding in August this year and I'd love to be feeling comfortable and confident for that. So I want to get back on to my health kick, starting properly on Monday.

I'm rubbish at sticking with things but I think having a group to log the progress with will really help.

Hi all. Was on a night out and had a bit too much to drink and suffering today. Easing a bit now but will be very happy when I can get home in a bit and put my feet up. Just managed to finish a 'small' carvery. Will be making a batch of soup when I get in for this evening. Still at 14 and a half stone so quite happy.

I bought some clothes in the sale and they all fit and look nice! So pleased. They are M&S size xl or 18, so not small, but they are lovely, so I think I’m feeling better about myself. I have swum 4 times this week, and stuck to plan apart from a bit of chocolate and an iced spiced bun.
Hallo to our newcomers

poorpaws · 13/01/2023 18:33

Welcome @MrsComet lovely to have you here. Do join in with the chat which is often nothing to do with weight loss.

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl lovely to hear from you again, I see you keep dipping in and out of here. Sadly I ate the Maltesers in one go too.

I'm really struggling at the moment, I eat healthy home cooked meals but it's the snacking, the endless snacking. DD commented tonight that I have my evening meal too early and there is too much evening snacking time. It's true but I'm always so ready for my evening meal. I spend my days waiting for the next meal or snack. I don't think my head is in the right place for dieting atm but I'd be happy to maintain rather than gain weight.

poorpaws · 13/01/2023 18:34

@Zebracat so pleased to hear you have new clothes which I'm sure you look lovely in. Keep up the good work.

TalkToTheHand123 · 13/01/2023 19:50

Maybe have some soup after your meal @poorpaws ? It's doing wonders for my evening binging.

I think I'm done with alcohol now or at least need to learn to slow down so hopefully help me lose at a quicker pace.

triplecheeese · 13/01/2023 21:02

Have you tried flipping it @poorpaws - eating an early evening snack and then having dinner later? I usually eat early too because of small DCs and then when the baby's in bed I hit the Christmas chocolate (which WILL NOT DISAPPEAR). a few nights recently i've made myself wait to eat until after baby is in bed - starving by then but it does mean I'm not on the chocolate!

welcome newcomers! It's lovely to see some January buzz, good on everyone looking to feel better. In years gone by I would have been grumpy at the gym being busy but I'm loving it this year.

went out for a curry with my sister this eve - tandoori salmon and masala veg. Was delish and I'm not counting the poppadoms 🫣

Gottoloveatakeaway · 14/01/2023 09:13

I've stayed ge same this week which I'm ok with. Had a boozy weekend with friends staying and away this weekend so hoping for another maintain this week. Then I can settle in to a few weeks of losing hopefully as nothing major planned socially.
Well done @Zebracat on new clothes, feeling better about yourself always helps.

MrsComet · 14/01/2023 09:31

OK I have stepped on the scales. 10st8 which is 4lbs up from the last time I weighed myself in October which I guess is not terrible.

Not sure what my target weight ought to be. I am quite short. But I think I'm just going to focus on losing 1lb at a time and seeing how comfortable I feel in my clothes. I don't want to beat myself up if I fail to reach a set target.

I'm taking DD to a pantomime today and we're having brunch out before the show. So today might start calorific but I do have leftover cottage pie for tea tonight that I made from scratch and is fairly healthy

Theredjellybean · 15/01/2023 07:04

@Zebracat oooh how lovely new clothes. Was this cus old ones now too big ?
Welcome new folk...this is a good place to hang out, very supportive.
I've had up and down week with one night involving Domino's and a lot of red wine...I felt so grim next day it has strengthened my resolve to cut back alcohol and do home made pizzas instead.
Weight this morning was 73.2 kgs.
This is ok...after Christmas and Nye I weighed 74.4, so I'm happy ISH...on track for Jan goal of 72kg.

BeyondMyWits · 15/01/2023 07:39

@Theredjellybean we go half way on the pizza... our Asda has one of the build your own pizza sections... we have a medium stone baked between the 2 of us.with peppers, mushrooms, sweetcorn and onion. Prefer it to a greasy domino's. I do a ranch salad with it, sometimes adding some shredded chicken if we've had a roast and it feels like a proper "takeaway" night.

MrsComet · 15/01/2023 08:34

@BeyondMyWits I'm not a pizza fan (I don't like cheese) but that sounds good even to me!

Yesterday was a bad day for indulgent snacking. French brioche toast for brunch, ice cream at the panto, crisps afterwards. But at least I stayed off the alcohol.

Today I'd like to try and do a little exercise. If it dries up I'll go for a run and if not some kind of YouTube work out. My goal is twenty minutes of exercise. I need to start somewhere

DarlingCoffee · 15/01/2023 09:50

Hello please may I join? I’ve been struggling with my weight for years now and it just won’t budge no matter what I do. I’m at 13 stone 11 as of today :( I’ve joined a gym and have just started going two weeks ago and still no sign of
progress/weight loss. Feel very fed up and would welcome any advice. Thank you.

Zebracat · 15/01/2023 13:07

@Theredjellybean I have clothes that fit, but a couple of gaps. I do need to sort out bras though. I have a drawerful of 38s going back years. They all got too small so I was trying to find comfort and ended up with about 5 in 40 d,e, or f, none of which really worked. But I do now seem to have found the one, a 38 f, in the M&S sale, so I need a mass trying on session of all the others.
At my fattest, I donated a lovely pair of green cords, thinking they would never fit again, and the new ones are their double except cotton.
I think I’m going to hold onto my bigger clothes, but in the loft cant keep buying stuff I just got rid of.
Your 73 kilos is my dream weight! 25 kilos to go, sigh. I kilo at a time

Zebracat · 15/01/2023 13:18

Hello and welcome @DarlingCoffee , joining a gym is a very positive action, I’m sure that with consistency you will start to see some changes after a few more weeks. When nothing much is happening with my weight, I do take comfort from knowing that, if I had just carried on without the changes, I would actually be gaining weigh. I think 13 stone 11 is probably mid range for this group. I’m sure you are perfectly lovely at that weight, but it is very good to get closer to recommended bmi etc. Can I ask how tall you are?

DarlingCoffee · 15/01/2023 13:29

Thank you for being so kind @Zebracat i feel like nobody around me seems to struggle with their weight and I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. I’m 5ft 5 and 45 years old so I think the peri menopause could be one reason even though I don’t seem to have any other symptoms most of my weight is around my stomach.

Zebracat · 15/01/2023 15:21

Well, calling someone fat still seems the most common insult, and does imply lazy, greedy, ugly stupid and useless. Lots of us on here would be called fat, but we are none of those other things, to my knowledge. Shame is a really poor kickstarter for change, because it makes your current weight your destiny and what you deserve, and says that you aren’t ok as you are. This isn’t some sort of moral issue, which is good because it means you are perfectly capable of creating the change.
My top tips are to log your food. I use My Fitness Pal, and to introduce new habits over time. I don’t snack, but I will eat an additional item of food if I am hungry, happens about once a fortnight. I make sure half my plate is vegetables. I am now swimming x4 weekly. I nip negative self messaging in the bud. I’m no expert though, I’m nearly 2 stone heavier than you!

Theredjellybean · 15/01/2023 21:12

@Zebracat
Loving the supporting messages from you ...
Never compare what you have to lose..just keep going... you're very motivating on here..so little or lot to lose it feels we can do it.

@DarlingCoffee I have been through menopause in last two yrs and definitely altered shape and weight is harder to shift and exercise doesn't do much...it's sadly much more about food and drinking...but with help from this thread I've not gained and infarct slowly chipping away at weight...so it's worth staying with us.

For me it's calorie counting...and accepting at 53 I need a lot lot less than I'd like to be eating

effiesgoldwig · 15/01/2023 21:46

Calorie couting here too. I'm 40 so not hit menopause quite yet but my friends tell me peri is a delight so I'm looking forward to that... better get this weight shifted before it gets more difficult!

Been back at work this week and have not stopped expecting a decent loss based on the amount of exercise I've logged by just being at work. Plus there's less time to snack so that's something.

Zebracat · 16/01/2023 10:36

Hmm, think I might switch to Friday for my official weighin. I was 98.3 then, but today I’m 98.6. My own fault, I made a pie yesterday and had pudding on Saturday. Also, I’ve had to change my pain relief, and it’s proper messed me up. I’ve always taken it in the morning with breakfast and topped up with cocodamol if necessary. But new on3 should be taken with biggest meal or yo7 get awful belly ache. But if I wait until evening I am in pain. Just had 3 course breakfast, and will try to swerve lunch.

peachgreen · 16/01/2023 10:48

Hello everyone, newbie here. Joining for some cheerleading and accountability!

A. bit of backstory – I've been overweight since childhood and was diagnosed with PCOS at 16. A combination of surgeries and very severe post-natal depression led to even more weight gain and at my heaviest I was over 22 stone. Somehow I managed to avoid many weight-related health issues – I've been very fortunate – but my lovely DH died suddenly at 42 (despite being very fit and healthy) and honestly, that scared me into doing something because I am all my daughter has now so I want to be around as far as possible!

I started self-funding Saxenda in late 2021 and through a combination of that, intermittent fasting and calorie-counting I've lost almost 7 stone – I'm currently 15st 11lbs and have gone from a size 26 to a 16. My ultimate target weight is 13st and I'd like to fit comfortable in a size 12-14.

During the week I fast from 8pm to midday, and most days I just have a milky coffee with protein powder at midday and then a home-cooked meal in the evening. I cook a lot from the Fast 800 books but tend to increase the portion size as it's usually my only meal of the day – it just helps me make sure my meals are low carb high protein high good fats which I find helps me feel sated. On Friday nights and Saturdays I relax a bit so will have a takeaway if I fancy one, a cake from a coffee shop etc etc, and I usually share a bottle of wine or some beers with my other half on a Friday too.

My losses have (obviously) massively slowed down, and stalled completely over Christmas, so I've been struggling a bit to get back on it, hence the need for the support!

effiesgoldwig · 16/01/2023 21:13

16st8 today so that's a big loss for me. 2lbs this week. 2.5 to go by the end of jan to meet that mini target. I think I might actually do it.

BeyondMyWits · 16/01/2023 21:48

Well done @effiesgoldwig ! I lost half a pound of my Xmas excess... right direction, but needs to be gone faster! 15st5.5lb.

@peachgreen ... welcome. You sound like you've had a hard time, but have done really well on the weightloss side, a loss of a partner in life really makes you think of your own mortality, especially where kids are involved. You'll get any support you need here, it's a lovely thread.

Theredjellybean · 17/01/2023 08:12

@Zebracat that sounds hard but I think your subconscious is sabotaging you.
If you weigh on a Friday you can go off the rails over the weekend because "it's ok I'll get back on it Monday"...
And you think I've got all week...
Are you taking an nsaid? And who advised take it with biggest meal ?
I'm a GP and we advise some meds need to be taken with food but I've never seen with biggest meal as a recommendation.
If your taking it in the morning any reasonable breakfast should do it but depends what you eat for breakfast.. porridge would be a good stomach protector whereas half a grapefruit maybe not @😀
