Thought I'd save you the hassle @poorpaws.

Well done for those who have lost and good luck to those struggling.

My focus at the moment is just to be wiser for food selection and to keep active. The slow moving scales can wait although I did check this morning and showing I'm nearly back to 14 and a half stone.

Hi all. Weighing in at 14 and a half stone which is a lbs down from the last few day. I've taken more soup this morning for a 12 hour shift so going from 2 litres to 3 litres 😊.

Not sure what I'll be stuffing my face with tonight though 😯🤭.

@Theredjellybean . I will stick to Monday. You are right, but actually I think yesterday was an anomaly, back down to 98 today!
It is an nsaid, a coxib. The pharmacist told me about the heaviest meal and I ignored her with dire consequences. . But when I switched to the evening I was in pain all day. My normal breakfast is half a grapefruit and porridge!. I’ve added some toast and an egg today, but I won’t have lunch. I think It might work.
How is your dsd doing? Our youngest, who only came to us at 14, is having a mh crisis, she’s had to withdraw from Uni, to work on it. She’s got very thin, hence, as I know you will understand, puddings and pies.

poorpaws · 17/01/2023 12:28

@peachgreen welcome. It sounds as if life has given you some nasty blows and I'm so sorry to hear that. It looks as if you have been doing very well without us but do stick around for mutual support.

@Zebracat so sorry to hear you have problems at home with mh, I hope she can resolve this as quickly as possible; kids are such a worry.

I've started again (for the eleventy millionth time). I've been really struggling since the Christmas excess and can't seem to get my eating under control. Yesterday was different, I did over 23,600 steps (supermarket shop, long dog walk and exercise dvd 😁) and my eating was very much better having only one small snack and the meals healthy and well planned. Dinner was cod steaks with a ton of carrots, broccoli and a few potatoes. If only I could keep this up for the year I would look like a supermodel 🤣, not really but in my head.

I'm not weighing until next Monday but I'm hoping for a good loss, which is long awaited. I've been gaining weight weekly and if I continue I will be back where I started which really frightens me.

I hope everyone is back to the grind of healthy eating and exercise so that this year we can all succeed.

poorpaws · 17/01/2023 12:38

@Theredjellybean I have been wondering about your dsd too, I hope she is ok and you are also coping. As I said earlier, kids are such a worry. My daughter (and two young children) are staying with me for a month. Her ex-dp rings her multiple times a day (not menacingly, just friendly chat), he can't leave her alone. He is positive she'll go back to him! She won't, they've been split for 2.1/2 years but he still seems to have control over her, it's so worrying (she also is extremely thin).

peachgreen · 17/01/2023 13:00

Thank you @BeyondMyWits and @poorpaws for both the welcome and the kind words! I have also been very blessed in life so I can't really complain – we all have our things to deal with. It definitely helped posting yesterday – it's so hard to get back into it when you've lapsed a bit, isn't it? I wasn't TOO bad over Christmas but it's still been difficult to get my head back in the right space. I'm determined to do it again though – my quality of life has improved so substantially and I'm relatively so close to my goal now. When I first started losing weight it seemed impossible that I would ever even get this far – my initial goal was 18 stone and it seemed so far away! So now I believe it's possible in a way I didn't before.

Theredjellybean · 17/01/2023 21:25

Thank you for asking about dsd.
She's ok...hates being back in in PT unit ..feels frustrated with herself for letting the anorexia back in and feels guilty she's putting us through it again.
However she has insight this time and the above is good in the fact she doesn't want to be this way.
So she's really trying and last few days has had Ng tube out and completed all her meal plan.
I'm going to see her tmr , can't wait to give her big hug.
@Zebracat ..that's a worry, is she ok with eating?...lard, cream, cheese on everything.. animal fats are what is needed.
If she isn't afraid of eating I used to make a 1000 calorie smoothie for dsd that was only 200 MLS in volume.
Start with frozen fruit ..I used sharper tasting ones..berries ..about 30gms...you can blitz them with rapeseed oil and it just disappears into the puree. I used to get 30 MLS in it. Then add 50 MLS of double cream, and a shot of lime juice and some cranberry or grapefruit juice (acidic to cut through cream). I then added a supplement we had shipped over from USA that has 330cals in 15 MLS of wierd paste...but you could add protein powder or ensure powder..or use ensure plus fruit drink instead of fruit juice. I floated small dollop of ice-cream in it and voila about 1000 calories
If you need help go to "around the dining table forum "
Amazing international charity for families with children with eating disorders.
My other top tip is Quorn absorbs lard like a sponge...my dsd would only eat Quorn for a while so I cooked it in lard ..you can triple the calory count of a Quorn sausage 😁witj lard

Zebracat · 17/01/2023 23:56

Crikey @Theredjellybean . Fantastic tips there. Stealth smoothies and lard. Gonna give that a go. Such a headfuck tho, when I’m trying to do the opposite. She is eating, but her appetite always plummets if she’s unhappy, and even more if we make too much of it, of course. Bmi is about 18.
May I pm you.? Promise wont get on your nerves I have a paediatrician in the family to pump, altho shes 19 now so all different of course.

poorpaws · 19/01/2023 08:38

How is everyone doing on this cold Thursday morning, it makes comfort eating almost compulsory.

So far so good for the first three days of my new start. I have renewed enthusiasm to look better for Easter. I'm eating more "proper" food and a lot less snacks and have been doing exercises daily. I am hoping for a good loss on Monday although it's DDs birthday at the weekend and I've promised to buy Domino's <sigh>

Have a good week everyone and I hope it's not snowing wherever you are.

BeyondMyWits · 19/01/2023 08:53

Hiya @poorpaws ... to be honest I'm struggling.

I find it hard to go from the excesses of holiday eating, back to just the occasional pig out. I know I'll be back on that wagon round the end of the month, but I feel a bit run down and cheesed off by the fact that my weight might go up next week, or even stay the same, when it was going so well.

Need to stop the pity party and do something about it, but honestly, am lacking any oomph right now.

Hope everyone is feeling more positive than me right now... but if you are not, here's a hug and a wave...

poorpaws · 19/01/2023 09:03

@BeyondMyWits hi. I'm so sorry, you are usually so positive and do so well. If you know you'll be back on track by the end of the month, I'd go with the flow and try just a tiny bit for damage limitation. Even if you go full out eating until then, don't give up, please don't give up, you'll so regret it. I need you here for support too. Sending a massive comforting hug and a bit of willpower.

Zebracat · 19/01/2023 09:29

@poorpaws , @BeyondMyWits I’m slowly getting back to it but it was much harder than it should have been. What helped was reclassifying the months of December and January as “ maintenance”, so rather than bemoaning the gains/ lack of progress, I just aimed to be in the same place at the end of January as I was at the beginning of December. I think I will be and I feel better. Going to have 2 more weeks of maintenance for the second half of March, and a month in the summer.
The swimming is really helping too, I am able to eat a bit more and I am getting toned. And less bored and miserable.

Nimbostratus100 · 19/01/2023 09:48

ok, so I have managed 3 days of relatively sensible eating and braved the scales

13 -11

thank heavens its isn't above 14 - that would have crushed me

task 1- get it below 13.... aim- end of Jan? Thats fast, but the start of a diet is always fast, then slows down and settles - that is my experience, anyway

Zebracat · 19/01/2023 10:27

@Nimbostratus100 end of January this year? 11 pounds In 11 days?
I am astounded. I’m not about telling other people how to live though, so if that works for you then go for it.

BeyondMyWits · 19/01/2023 11:13

Thanks for the messages of support @poorpaws , @Zebracat , I love this thread... you have lifted my mood today, thank you.

"Maintenance" sounds a great way to think of it @Zebracat

And @Nimbostratus100 , go for it... as you say the early days when we are all full of fervour show the best losses
...I'd have to chop a leg off to lose that much that quickly. 😆

Nimbostratus100 · 19/01/2023 13:58

yes, you are right, that is too much, I'll aim for mid February - far more realistic

TalkToTheHand123 · 19/01/2023 14:50

Hi all.

I've started doing a few mini sit-ups again (sitting on a big bean bag😊) as I'm getting a little frustrated being stuck in 14 and a half stone and hoping this might help. I never seem to last longer than 3 or 4 days though so time will tell.

OP posts:
Nimbostratus100 · 19/01/2023 15:15

I've read that sit ups are out of favour, due to stress on spine , I'm no expert though. Tiny little crunches, like the first quarter of sit ups are supposedly better. But I'm not trained or qualified, or anything, this is just what I have read

Nimbostratus100 · 19/01/2023 15:15

I have just run one mile, so I am feeling pretty impressed with myself - ok, its not much, but it is a start

Zebracat · 19/01/2023 15:44

A mile is an amazing start. I’ve never been entirely sure what a sit up is, nonetheless certain I couldn’t do one. Or a burpee. Swam for 40 minutes today though. I’m trying to do little tummy tightenings as I lie on my sofa reading .

SapatSea · 19/01/2023 16:22

@Zebracat Smile I do little tummy tightenings whilst sitting on the sofa too as well as butt clenches and leg raises and arm raises. My H has lots of velcro weighted wrist and ankle bracelets I might nab some so that I could be exercising whilst typing!

I forgot to weigh in on Monday, I did it today. I'm 70.9kg down from 71.12kg 2 weeks ago. Not great but I have fallen off the wagon with the usual - chocolate and biscuits. I ate a whole wheel of petticoat tail shortbread yesterday (why??) there is a big tub of grapes in the fridge slowly rotting! Sad
I really need to cut calories ( and the sugar), I'm a short arse and menopausal so need to eat more like I did as a student, when I had no dosh and was lovely and slim.

@Nimbostratus100 a mile running is fantastic. I don't think I could run to the end of the street. I did walk briskly for 3 miles(uphill one way) today and will do some Qiqong later for flexibility as I have very sedentary, stuck to the computer work. I admire you doing hard cardio runs.
@BeyondMyWits I feel like you, really lacking in oomph.

TalkToTheHand123 · 19/01/2023 17:18

@Nimbostratus100 Aww thanks. I pretty much gave up anyways. Going to do more yoga instead.

@SapatSea I used to do a lot of tummy tightening so will get back into that more hopefully.

OP posts:
TalkToTheHand123 · 20/01/2023 10:05

I think the simulated upper body running works best for me so hopefully I get back into it. You can really feel the belly muscles.

OP posts:
PinkArt · 20/01/2023 10:46

I've lost another three pounds and am just one pound away from my first target of 17 stone now. Getting back to a weight that 'only' starts with a 16 again will feel great as that felt a long way off for ages.
Sadly I can't really recommend what's helped the most with it, which is that hideous cough bug that's going around. I've lost my appetite quite a bit with it, plus with a sore throat eating isn't fun. So I'm thanking it for helping me with a bigger loss than I usually manage but wish it would sod off now.

Nimbostratus100 · 20/01/2023 10:50

well done @PinkArt

I haven't lost anything in the last day. I changed the battery in the scales and took my socks off, still nothing🤔

PinkArt · 20/01/2023 11:04

Did you do a big poo first, @Nimbostratus100? I always blame that on weeks when nothing's changed!
