Sounds similar to me @effiesgoldwig. We as kids never went short but my mum and her siblings certainly remembered what it was to be hungry. They have some poor relationships with food now (some very restricted, some binge eaters and a doomsday prepper or two). I've mentioned before on this thread how intense some of my relatives can be about weight issues so body acceptance is really important to me. It's not immoral to be overweight and it's also not narcissistic to improve your health (both views have been expressed, sometimes by the same person) 😂

triplecheeese · 17/12/2022 07:13

@TalkToTheHand123 love fish but DH won't eat it and I really don't want to do different dinners. The kids eat fish cakes so I guess that is close enough, but a woman cannot live on fish cakes and broccoli alone...

love green peppers in black bean @Zebracat. If I'm thinking about Chinese calories I do prawn & veg dishes... but at the moment I'm not thinking 😅

TalkToTheHand123 · 17/12/2022 11:01

I've managed to nearly get back down to my lowest 14 and a half stone, just an lbs or two off so quite pleased.

Bought some yoghurts which aren't as nice as they used to be 😂. I'd usually just eat them instead of 'wasting' them, but yes, I'd be wasting my allocated calories as I'm viewing it now as.

I'm spending a lot more time thinking about what to eat and when over the next few days and this has helped ease binge urges.

BeyondMyWits · 17/12/2022 18:35

That's really good @TalkToTheHand123 . And being able to leave what we also call a waste of calories!

Having a pizza evening, but having asdas build your own... so lots of veg... peppers, sweetcorn and mushrooms with a little cheese. No meat really cuts the calories value. And it will be nicer, warmer and fewer calories than domino's.

effiesgoldwig · 17/12/2022 20:22

Weekends just kill me every time. We are all recovered from the sickness bug now but I went out for lunch with a friend yesterday and it was "Christmas Day 1" today and I've eaten like a horse. Cauliflower cheese, roast potatoes, cake, custard, chocolate, pigs in blankets, then a buffet tea as well! I'm dreading the scales this week because once you've had a couple of bad days it's so hard to get back on track.

Normally I'd say it was worth it but having been doing so well to this point I'm disappointed in myself. I soup for lunch tomorrow for sure.

Zebracat · 17/12/2022 22:25

Oh dear. Opened the Baileys tonight.5 minutes in and I was saying to Dh how nice it would be to have a big tin of Quality Street in for Christmas. Does not bode well.

Zebracat · 17/12/2022 22:27

Oh and well done @TalkToTheHand123 . I’m desperate to get under 15 stone. Altho not so desperate that I can leave the Baileys alone…

TalkToTheHand123 · 17/12/2022 22:56

Bit of a slip up today visiting the parents. My mam made me chocolate cake with custard. She didn't even ask. I didn't even enjoy any of the spoonfulls, all I could think about was the calories 😂. Had a couple of the chocolate biscuits too.😔

I'll take it on the chin though and try prepare myself and refrain next time.

Zebracat · 17/12/2022 23:02

@TalkToTheHand123 . I’m actually squealing with delight at the thought of chocolate cake and custard. I’ll have it!

effiesgoldwig · 18/12/2022 02:44

Yes great work @TalkToTheHand123
It's probably 10 years since I was anywhere near 14 and a half stone. If not longer.

I have a memory of the dr telling my I should lose weight when I was about 16 stone just after dd1 was born and she's 9 now and I know it's been going steadily up since then.

I'm going to do my best to get a loss this week but then I'm going to enjoy Christmas Day. I'm going to have a baileys that day for sure. And I'm not going to feel guilty. One day won't derail me. It's just if I have 7 of them in a week that its a problem.

BeyondMyWits · 18/12/2022 10:34

I've managed to avoid the booze.... my blood pressure tablets and booze don't mix well... unless I actually want to be a dizzy, sweating mess, with a bright red flushed face...

Am finding in the menopause that my ermmmm "digestive transit" is slowing considerably and chocolate (chocolate!!) bungs things up terribly.

So my body is on the side of weightloss... have been refusing extra stuff at work... (customers bring in things for our coffee breaks... biscuits/chocolate etc), so that I can switch off over Xmas itself.

TalkToTheHand123 · 18/12/2022 10:50

@Zebracat you go get your cake, you deserve it.
@effiesgoldwig I've been trying to find an alcoholic drink that I actually like, especially on a night out. I forgot all about Bailey's and haven't had one in a long time. I think I'll put a bottle on the shopping list as I recall it tasted quite nice.
@BeyondMyWitsI used to feel antisocial or rude but now just make on I don't like what's being offered. It feels so good turning down offers, especially when they are only doing it to stop them eating anymore!

Zebracat · 19/12/2022 09:06

Gained .5 kilo today, back up to 98.4. I really don’t deserve this. Grrr.
I've run out of thyroid medication and didn’t realise so I have had none since Friday, but wouldn’t expect that to make this much difference.
so difficult not to think oh fuck it. Had toast dripping with butter instead of porridge today. And I have a stinking cold. But that may get me out of my hobby Christmas party tonight. I was making a cheese and pineapple hedgehog. Me and my teen were looking forward to the construction.
Bleurgh

TalkToTheHand123 · 19/12/2022 10:52

Popped to McDonald's for something to eat and waste time while eating for a car light bulb to be fitted, 1 hour wait 😯 😊

Instead of trying to make myself feel guilty I'm going to savour the breakfast and just try not to treat myself again for a while / try work out how often I can treat myself.

I've been to they gym this morning for a quick session and may go on the treadmill later after some shopping and housework.

effiesgoldwig · 19/12/2022 15:10

16st 12 here today! Woohoo!

1 pound away from 1 stone loss so if I stick to it apart from Christmas Day I reckon I'll be ending the year a stone lighter than I went into it.

Hope you enjoyed your McDonald's @TalkToTheHand123

And a slice of toast every once in a while is a nice treat.

I was watching a documentary about weight loss a few years ago and they gave 2 groups of people a slice of cake, told 1 group that it was low fat / low cal and then told the other group that it was very high fat / calorie. They then measured the amount of food that each group ate at a buffet afterwards. The group that thought they'd ruined their diet with cake ate something like 1000 calories extra per person than the ones who thought they'd stuck to their diet.

What I am trying to take away from that is the mindset that it is ok to have a treat as long as you allow yourself to enjoy it and then continue to make healthy choices the rest of the day.

Have the slice of toast, eat the McDonald's, but then instead of writing off the day and giving up, stay on track. Keep reminding yourself that you can do it. Because we can.

effiesgoldwig · 19/12/2022 15:12

@BeyondMyWits I'm feeling for you that chocolate is causing you issues! I might never poop again if it meant giving up chocolate...

effiesgoldwig · 19/12/2022 15:13

@poorpaws are you starting us a new thread so we don't all lose each other?

BeyondMyWits · 19/12/2022 15:20

@BeyondMyWits I'm feeling for you that chocolate is causing you issues! I might never poop again if it meant giving up chocolate...

Haha, you made me laugh!

poorpaws · 19/12/2022 21:25

@effiesgoldwig oops hadn't notice. No I most certainly don't want to lose you all! I get very confused doing the links so I'll get daughter on it 😁

TalkToTheHand123 · 19/12/2022 22:42

Aww thanks @effiesgoldwig . I ended up having a sundae after a carvery later on (dd6 leading me astray).

Whilst I enjoyed them, I feel more in control over my eating since spending more time thinking about my eating habits (touch wood) so not stressed about it. I should be able to avoid McDonald's more and I'm actually going off the sundaes.

Back on the soup now as most fridge food has been used up. Cutting down on the yoghurts as going off them a bit too and replacing with overnight oats (small portions).

Just need to think more about what foods I put in my trolley now.

BeyondMyWits · 20/12/2022 08:25

Forgot to post... another pound down... so 15st 2lb now... Will not get to target for Xmas, but hey ho I'm happy it is going in the right direction!!

Will make 14stone something my mini target for end of January instead. Roll on Xmas!!

onamission86 · 20/12/2022 15:00

I have been trying to diet since May and if anything, I think i have actually gained weight.
The biggest problem I have is that i am very anxious so on anxiety medication, which makes you feel hungry all the time.
We are going on holiday in September and i am determined to fit into a bikini.
I am trying to do a calorie controlled diet and i have also purchased an exercise bike in the sale.
Fingers crossed I will actually loose some weight as i am sick of looking like i am pregnant.

triplecheeese · 20/12/2022 19:54

welcome @onamission86. we are a friendly bunch and we all share and celebrate each other's ups and downs! You'll find lots of understanding here about anxiety too if you feel comfortable. Mental health and physical health and emotional health are all so connected! Good luck with Mission September Swimwear 💜
