Thought I'd save you the hassle @poorpaws.

Well done for those who have lost and good luck to those struggling.

My focus at the moment is just to be wiser for food selection and to keep active. The slow moving scales can wait although I did check this morning and showing I'm nearly back to 14 and a half stone.

Posted on another thread about resolutions.
Wait until March or April to start a diet, that's what I found last year.

poorpaws · 01/01/2023 07:45

Happy New Year everyone. This is the beginning so let's make the end amazing.

Readytostartagain · 01/01/2023 08:26

Can I join please. I have over 3 stone to lose but would like to lose 5lb in January and 17lb by Easter. Weighed in today at 157.2 lb but I’m very short. Still got lots of Christmas cheese and mince pies so hoping everyone else will finish those quickly 🤞

BeyondMyWits · 01/01/2023 08:39

itsnotmeitisactuallyyou · 31/12/2022 21:14

Ive just found a tin of shortbread in the cupboard that have a short date and ffs now im going to have to eat them{i do not like giving anyone shortdated food}

You don't have to eat them. If you need, you have our permission to throw it in the bin.

Don't waste the opportunity to not put on a pound and have to work hard to lose it. Be kind to your body, chuck it out... see it as a 1lb loss to start you off!

TalkToTheHand123 · 01/01/2023 08:40

Welcome @Readytostartagain and happy new year everyone.

Have been making carrot and also sweet potato soup soup recently which has been really surprisingly nice.

New year's resolution is to keep track of time on a night time🤭 and keep doing 1km walks.😊

Welcome @Readytostartagain let's all make this a good positive year.

triplecheeese · 01/01/2023 13:25

Happy new year regulars, newbies and rejoiners!

I've decided to exercise every day in January. Posting it here to make me accountable! It's my version of RED (run every day) January but I really don't think my pelvic floor could take that 😂

the goal is to get to the end of the month knowing I CAN make time to exercise.

day 1 - parkrun (felt awful... Legs weighed down by mince pies and baileys)

SapatSea · 01/01/2023 14:33

I went for a three mile walk this morning and feel better for it despite feeling pretty awful on waking. I finished the last of the Christmas bars of Montezuma chocolate yesterday - so have started "clean" today. I have a big box of grapes in the fridge to hopefully circumvent 4pm snacking and have put a box of M&S caramels that I don't even like but would end up eating in the food bank bag.

I don't like heavy food and do wonder if I snack on "melty" food like Chocolate and biscuits so much when I actually might be hungry so have bought some porridge, seeds, blueberries etc and am determined to eat proper breakfasts and try to fill up more on good stuff and ignore the calories to quit my disordered eating and see if eating a bit more intially will get me off the sugar.

Good luck to us all in this New Year! Well done on the Parkrun Triplecheese

effiesgoldwig · 01/01/2023 18:35

Does building ikea shelves count as exercise? If so I'm on a win - exercise, forgot to have any snacks and one task down.

Spent the last hour and a half trying to get DDs bedroom tidy and build shelves to keep her new Christmas presents on.

poorpaws · 01/01/2023 19:47

Hi everyone, how did your first day of the new year go?

I actually did it! My exercise DVD, I did it! I've been talking about doing it for so long and tonight I did it. I make such a drama about it and it's not even difficult, about 20 minutes of stepping to the front or the side and jumping about a bit, that's all there is to it really.

@effiesgoldwig Damn right that counts as exercise, well done. Everything apart from sitting down or sleeping in my house is exercise and in my tiny brain I lose many lbs doing all this exercise (I don't).

@triplecheeese yay to the park run, that's a good start. You've got such a good attitude to losing weight.

@SapatSea great job on the 3 mile walk and all the Christmas/new year excess will soon be gone for this year.

I'm really quite nervous of weighing for the first time in a long time tomorrow morning but it has to be faced. I know it's going to be bad, I can tell by how much tighter my clothes are and my stomach is horrible. I was doing so well in summer but fell off the wagon big time. I will look forward not back, we should all do that.

For all those doing a Monday weigh-in I hope the scale fairies are good to you.

Gottoloveatakeaway · 01/01/2023 19:48

Just been out for pizza (had it booked a while) with DH, but at least walked there and back and made sure yo have lots of salad. Have decided to strict diet, except when we go out. Only have 2 things booked between now and holiday in 8 weeks so should be manageable. Also decided to exercise at least 5 times a week and get less wobbly.

poorpaws · 02/01/2023 07:52

I faced the scales this morning, and it's not good, 11 stone 4 lbs. I think in September before the heart attack I was 10 stone 10, so that's quite a hefty leap. It's no good moaning about it, I did it so I'll just get on now and lose it again. I suppose at least facing the truth is a good thing. Doing a food shop this morning so I guess it will be an extra healthy one now.

I hope everyone has a good Monday weigh-in and all fair better than I did.

poorpaws · 02/01/2023 08:02

My goal for the end of January is to lose the 4 lbs, so I should be 11 stones, or back in the tens would be even nicer.

For Easter I'd really like to get down to 10 1/2 stone. I think that's a bit hopeful, so I'll say 10 stone 10 which is the weight I was before.

Looking forward to hearing your weights and your targets which I intend to write down because we often forget.

Good luck everyone.

BeyondMyWits · 02/01/2023 08:23

I also faced the scales after an unrestricted week and saw exactly what happens when I do not regulate my intake....

Oh dear.

15st 3.... 4lb on. 4lb that I will have to battle to lose again.

So my January mini target is to get to 14st something... again... it is so demoralising, but I enjoyed it at the time. Easter... I'll think about when we get toward the end of Jan...

Good luck everyone.

effiesgoldwig · 02/01/2023 09:15

16st 12 here. So the same as I was before Christmas. I'm counting that as a win! I only had the 4 days around Christmas off so I managed not to do too much damage. Halo

MammyCat123 · 02/01/2023 09:41

Can I join in the fun? 11 stone 5 here but I'm only 5ft 2 :(
Heaviest I've ever been.
I'm struggling to say no to all the leftover chocolate in the house. DH won't let me bin it as he'll enjoy it but he will literally have one after 8 a day so it's going to take a lot of willpower to not finish the box myself! Thinking I'll just get it out every time we have visitors and hope it goes down quickly!
Starting today with a jog. Seeing friends for prosecco and cake later so will take a lot of willpower to say no.
Goal to lose 7lbs this month. Exercise and counting calories on my fitness Pal!
Good luck everyone! Stay strong!!

Cocopogo · 02/01/2023 10:22

I’ve had a shock stepping on the scales this morning. I’m the heaviest I’ve been. My BMI is 32.5. I would like to lose a stone this month and 3 stone by Easter.
I have charged my Fitbit up that’s been sat in a drawer for a year and I plan to increase steps, from approx 2,000 per day to 10,000. I’m going to reduce calorie intake and sugary foods. I’m going to go on YouTube and do workouts and to the local leisure centre and use gym and pool and when I feel more confident (in a couple of weeks) I intend to join classes.

TalkToTheHand123 · 02/01/2023 11:01

Weighed this morning and a couple of lbs under 15 stone, an okish starter for the new year as last year yoyo'd between 15 and 16 stone.

Plan to drink lots of soup with extra water content and little stretches every few hours.

@MammyCat123 welcome, you've joined us at a perfect time when we are all weighing <ouch> , stating our goals and in positive mode and we've had some other lovely new members.

Some great losses forecast here, let's all go for it.

Cocopogo · 02/01/2023 15:58

@MammyCat123 are you doing anything else? I was contemplating slimming world or saving that money for gym or something but not sure.

SapatSea · 02/01/2023 17:31

5FT 3 157 lbs ( 71 kg about 11.2 stone). However, I have become apple shaped and have a very wide waist which worries me regarding diabetes and heart disease (37 inches). I'm not convinced my scales are that accurate either as they gave different readings depending on the room ( bathroom tiled floor vs kitchen tiled floor). I just feel really sluggish, uncomfortable and hot.

Everyone in my family and extended family are slim, marathon runners etc. and seem to never get hungry and can easily control, their eating. I, on the other hand felt like I could gnaw my arm off this afternoon at 4.20pm despite grapes and nuts as a snack.

I'm going to MFP too but set my target at 1500 calories to start and hope I can get it a bit lower when I have the sugar cravings under control. Last time I lost a stone or so I kept to 1200 calories for a couple of months.

really interesting to hear everyone's goals.

Theredjellybean · 02/01/2023 18:03

Hello friends..I am now back with you....after a very stressful time.
My DSD is going to in patient care again tomorrow and I am a mix of relief and heartbreak. But she and I cannot do it at home ( for newbies my dsd has anorexia ) but this does mean I can go back to being careful/sensible about my diet and exercising again.
It is not just the needing to eat with her 6 times a day to support her, it was the fact she was literally glued to me ...when she relapses i sleep in her room with her, go to the bathroom with her, basically never ever leave her alone.
However over the holidays she did try really hard and we did have a nice christmas and i got out for a few short runs when her sisters / ste sisters occupied her / kept watch.

So the damage of this ( plus the alcohol needed to keep me from falling apart) is 74 kgs....my lightest during 2022 was 70.9 kg
This time last year i was 75.5 kg and the lightest i ever got to in 2021 was 71.8kg

so looking on bright side, despite stress and full mesopause hitting this year, plus 2 prolapsed discs making me stop marathon training i have ended the year less than the same time last yr and overall have managed to keep weight gradually going down. Ok it bounced about but it was bouncing about around lower numbers than in 2021.

I am now back to a sensible diet with the calorie deficet I need to lose and i am allowed on my rehab programme to up the running gradually and have a 10 km event as a goal in Feb...

Theredjellybean · 02/01/2023 18:03

my first mini goal is to be 72.5 kg at end of Jan
