Thought I'd save you the hassle @poorpaws.

Well done for those who have lost and good luck to those struggling.

My focus at the moment is just to be wiser for food selection and to keep active. The slow moving scales can wait although I did check this morning and showing I'm nearly back to 14 and a half stone.

@Zebracat it sounds to me like you have done well over Christmas and you'll be in a loose fitting size 18 soon. It's a good goal to keep you on track. Keep up the good work, it will be so worth it by summer. (Size 16).

@TalkToTheHand123 sounds like a busy, long working hours new year for you. You probably won't have time to eat much so that's a plus.

@effiesgoldwig are you feeling any better? I hope you are getting back to normal, although I realise it's early days. I was ill for six weeks this time last year (DP wasn't well either so it was pretty grim). It went on so long I was beginning to think I'd never get better then suddenly I picked up but it's a rotten cold, miserable time of year to feel poorly 💐

I hope you are all ok. It's raining and very windy today, really miserable weather that no sane person would go out in. My dogs hate the rain so unless it brightens up later that's a lot of steps I'll miss out on <sigh>. I might have to do exercise indoors or maybe have a day off (but then I'll regret it).

effiesgoldwig · 30/12/2022 08:38

Thanks for the well wishes everyone. I do seem to be a bit better today as i went to bed at 8pm last night. Been up since 5.30 today though 😵‍💫

Definitely looking ahead is motivating me at the moment. I was thinking about the summer this morning and about what I'd like to do that the weight has stopped me from doing the last few years.

I'd like to go on a bike ride with the family this summer - last time I tried it I felt like the bike would give way beneath my enormous weight. If I can get to 14 stone something by summer I'm going to do it.

And when I was in my 20s (weighing 11stone and thinking I was fat. I was an idiot) I used to go rock climbing with my DH. There's no way I could even consider it at 18.10 which is where I was in 2021. I'd love to get back there. I'd probably even consider it if I was 13 stone. But it's something to aim for.

poorpaws · 30/12/2022 08:49

@effiesgoldwig so pleased to hear you are feeling a little better. What a lovely positive post from you. I feel exactly the same about the summer and I've been thinking about it this morning. I've got a Joe Brown skirt I like (nothing really special but lined and nicely made in a colour and fabric I like). I wore it a couple of times this summer when I got down to 10st 10lbs and it felt lovely. Now i doubt I'll be able to zip it up but next summer I am determined it will be a loose fit.

If we both keep trying and concentrate on that summer dream we will be able to do it. DP has weighed less than me for years and I just want to be able to say I weigh less than him. Let's keep each other and everyone else on here positive and we can all do this 😁

triplecheeese · 30/12/2022 11:48

@effiesgoldwig i feel for you. Tonsillitis is not fun. I'm frustrated because i catch everything the baby gets and he's had everything since November. Hope you and baby are on the mend soon ❤️ You will be cycling and rock climbing before you know it.

@poorpaws you've got a great attitude. I'm taking inspiration from you and sorting the wardrobe out - I have no jeans that fit me despite weight loss (think my shape has just changed) so I'm going to buy myself some new ones as a post-Jan reward.

@Zebracat same here too - mince pie weight gain but tbh I don't really count it if it comes off quick - lots of it is probably eating all the salty food and it'll settle. I've eaten 95% cheese for the past couple of days.

@TalkToTheHand123 you have been inspiring me getting to the gym. I'm going to sit down with my diary and carve out gym time starting tomorrow.

I always feel claustrophobic at this time of year because the house is cluttered, full of drooping Xmas decs, there's no proper food in and everyone's a bit grumpy. Had wayyy too much to drink with a friend yesterday (I love a glass of wine but never have more than one... until yesterday for some reason) so today pouring away the baileys and taking down some decs. Taking the kids out for a toddle about in the rain later. They sound like your dogs though PP, they really don't like the rain!

Zebracat · 30/12/2022 13:07

@triplecheeese . I’m not a big drinker but pouring away the Baileys is a step too far! Spending the night with my son. Just had a cheese bagel with mince pie and crisps. Sometimes they don’t eat until 10, by which time I’ve gone over, as my Mum used to say, so stocked up a bit.

Gottoloveatakeaway · 30/12/2022 13:19

Can I join in too please. Fed up of losing the same stone over and over again, and determined this is the year I leave being Fat behind. Weighed myself this morning at just under 15stone.

effiesgoldwig · 30/12/2022 13:56

Don't pour away the baileys! Send it here. I've not drunk enough. Sun total of my Christmas drinking is 1 glass of baileys on Boxing Day. Was too full of chocolate and trifle to fit any booze in.

With you on the clutter though. I took the tree down yesterday and it's made a big difference. I just have lights in the window left to keep it a bit festive.

Now it's just all the kids presents everywhere taking up space but most of their presents were crafty things or Lego type gifts. So they are working their way through them which means as they get used they are slowly taking up less space.

Baby toys still need decluttering though. Going to sort through them and try and pass on the ones she's grown out of but I'm saving that for a day when I'm feeling 100%.

Having a lardy day on the sofa still in my dressing gown.

Welcome aboard @Gottoloveatakeaway

SapatSea · 30/12/2022 17:15

I'd like to join in too. I agree that everything feels cluttered after Christmas. Bad weather at present too, so less inviting to go out in the wind and rain. I think about losing weight multiple times a day but lack will power. I actually cook really healthy vegan and vegetarian food from scratch, but destroy it by snacking. I'm a sugar and chocolate addict - if it is there I'll have it. No matter how dark the chocolate that others claim a few squares off will suffice, I'll not stop until I've had the bar!

I've walked miles to buy some sweets or biscuits in the past. Many years ago I was able to give up smoking easily and didn't have too much trouble giving up alcohol which I loved several years back when I started to get chronic migraine but sugar just defeats me. I always end up back on it even if I stop for a few months or loose some weight and look good.

triplecheeese · 30/12/2022 17:21

Lol ok ok @Zebracat and @effiesgoldwig, baileys is in the post, with all the strikes it'll be there by next Xmas. I've not managed much today either but successfully took the kids for a scamper about and sent DH to the supermarket to buy vegetables.

O the baby toys! Our house sale fell through in the autumn (thanks, Liz) so DH and I agreed to get the house more organised, since we're going to be in our small place for a while longer. It's turning into such a performance though, DH making a massive deal of redesigning the storage cupboards, when I just meant a couple of trips to the dump and palming off baby stuff onto pregnant friends.

nice to see you @Gottoloveatakeaway! Do you have goals you'd like to share with us here?

triplecheeese · 30/12/2022 17:23

You sound like me @SapatSea. I was never bothered about sugar until I had kids and just craved it both pregnant and BF... now baby #2 is showing a sweet tooth so I want to set a better example!

welcome, join the gang here.

Gottoloveatakeaway · 30/12/2022 18:53

Have a holiday coming up end of feb. Thank god we booked and paid for it last summer, otherwise unlikely to be going. So short term goal of losing 1 stone in 8 weeks to fit into summer clothes. Ideally then another 2 stone to lose. Thinking sharing on here may help. My issue is that I eat healthily mon-fri, then spoil things at weekend. Bread absolutely my downfall.

poorpaws · 31/12/2022 09:05

Hi everyone

Lovely to have new people around, welcome @Gottoloveatakeaway and @SapatSea, good to have you here.

Last day of this year and I'll be glad to see it end, it's not been a very good year. I have great faith that 2023 will be better.

Four week mini goal to the end of January anyone? It's actually a few days longer but those can be free extra days. Also longer term goal to Easter, just over 13 weeks to Easter Sunday. Anyone up for it? As you all know I have a very poor record of reaching goals so after I've weighed in on Monday I'll have a think of what is attainable and let you know.

Have a lovely NewYears eve everyone and I'll see you in the new year.

Let's make 2023 a really good year for all of us and keep the idea of a dress size down (at least) in the summer.

BeyondMyWits · 31/12/2022 09:42

Hiya all, not been keeping up this week, came back to loads of newbies and many posts to read. Brilliant!

This Monday is going to be an awful weigh in for me. My weight always lags a week, so this will be the Xmas gain... I have not been "good" over Xmas. I am cutting back now, but I know it will be 3 or so pounds up. Hopefully it'll come down as quickly. Hey ho, I did enjoy it at the time which is the main thing. I will pop back Monday with the bad news and my mini goals for January and Easter... they really help!
Hope everyone is feeling motivated for the new year!

Cocopogo · 31/12/2022 09:44

Joining. Put on so much weight the past few months and need to get back on it tomorrow

poorpaws · 31/12/2022 10:25

Welcome @Cocopogo (this is for @Gottoloveatakeaway and @SapatSea too and all new joiners).
Are you up for setting yourself a mini goal for the of next month. There's no pressure, we all chose what we'd like to lose over the month and try to attain it (doesn't matter if we fail but we just try). We also try for a longer term goal at Easter. If you'd like to join in just say on Mondays weigh-in (or whatever day you weigh) how much you'd like to lose. This is a very easy going thread with no rules, we just try hard and have had some good successes.

poorpaws · 31/12/2022 10:26

Ha *end of next month, sorry.

TalkToTheHand123 · 31/12/2022 14:56

I'd best make a start now then. I'm targeting 14 stone 7lbs so about 5 or 6 lbs to lose.

I've started to have more packets of soup but put in a saucepan so can add extra water. Lose a bit of taste but means I get water which I keep forgetting to have.

Try and have more fish and veg on an evening too.

OP posts:
effiesgoldwig · 31/12/2022 16:42

Ok my January target is to get to 16st6. That will be 7 pounds off. Then 15.13 for the end of feb to get another stone down and be the lightest I've been in 8 years.

Confitofduckand · 31/12/2022 17:13

Can I join you, please? I have just had a bit of a shock on the scales (14 stone). I am not quite sure how that has happened, but can’t keep getting bigger. Just the small matter of NYE to get through …

PinkArt · 31/12/2022 21:06

Can I come and play? This feels like the right kind of supportive and gentle kick up the bum thread I need!
I'm currently 17 stone 8 which I reeeeally don't love. I am no longer curvy, I am lumpy and it needs more focus Towards the end of 2022 I hit this, my pre lockdowns weight, again which was my first goal. Next goal is 17 stone - I'm taking it a small step at a time as saying I'm aiming for 11 feels so out of reach at the moment. I lost a whole 0.1 pounds over Christmas which is the tiniest win ever but I'll take it 🤣
I did a freezer check the other day and I have loads of fish in, so lots of that with green veg. And small amounts of chocolate every day because I know cutting it out completely means very quick failure.

itsnotmeitisactuallyyou · 31/12/2022 21:14

Ive just found a tin of shortbread in the cupboard that have a short date and ffs now im going to have to eat them{i do not like giving anyone shortdated food}

poorpaws · 31/12/2022 21:15

Welcome @Confitofduckand and @PinkArt stick with us, we are all in the same boat and navigating it to victory. It's going to take time, we all know that, but we have time, right? However long it takes, we'll get there with lots of support from people on here along the way.

To the rest of the crew, it's quite exciting to have so many new members this week, I hope they stay with us.

poorpaws · 31/12/2022 21:21

@itsnotmeitisactuallyyou I'm having a bit of a "I must eat all this tonight because it's the 1st tomorrow" moment. I sent DP home with loads of Christmas food the other day so I wouldn't do this but I forgot to check one cupboard and unfortunately I looked in it tonight ... ah well tomorrow is not just another day, it's THE day.

Zebracat · 31/12/2022 21:22

Hi to all, new and old, you are so welcome. I have exceeded my calories by 800 and an ice cream Mars bar today. We are away though. Home tomorrow and it will get better. I will set a January target on Monday. Might try for something achievable this time.o

Gottoloveatakeaway · 31/12/2022 22:33

I'm going for 7lbs in Jan. So aiming for 14st 6. Very similar to @TalkToTheHand123 - let's both get there.
