Thought I'd save you the hassle @poorpaws.

Well done for those who have lost and good luck to those struggling.

My focus at the moment is just to be wiser for food selection and to keep active. The slow moving scales can wait although I did check this morning and showing I'm nearly back to 14 and a half stone.

Have you got a treadmill at home @TalkToTheHand123 ? I struggle to get to the gym. I have weights so tend to work out at home but have to run outside which in winter is a bit limited. Tho when I did have an exercise bike I used it to dry washing.

sending hugs @Theredjellybean, you more than deserve a de-stressor!

well done to the Fab Fridays @PinkArt and @Gottoloveatakeaway.

managed to exercise 3 days in a row!

TalkToTheHand123 · 06/01/2023 16:33

@triplecheeese yeah have one at home, just the cheap horizontal one. Need to be careful at a high speed but I just slow walk on it anyways for about 20mins while watching tv.

I only go to the gym when I'm passing or otherwise I wouldn't go.🤭

@BeyondMyWits oh dear. I’m still gaining too. I feel hungry all the time. Had a proper nightmare about Christmas chocolate. I was in a beautiful Christmas chocolate shop, really excited when I realised I had been kidnapped and was going to be tortured. Hmm what is my subconscious trying to tell me?

PinkArt · 06/01/2023 17:49

High five @Gottoloveatakeaway. Your user name made me smile as my Friday treat if (big if) I've lost weight is usually a deliveroo. Tonight, instead, I'm heading out for birthday drinks and something that'll probably be fairly filthy to eat as I think the calories still don't count today. I got a food delivery earlier with loads of veg so that should be lining me up for quite a clean week next week. I normally have a very sweet tooth and I haven't much this week, so I'm hoping that sticks for a bit longer.

PinkArt · 06/01/2023 17:53

@Zebracat, dreams usually translate in fairly literal terms. So dreams with lifts or stairs might be about you trying to get up to something - a promotion perhaps - or one set on a train might be about a more metaphorical journey of some kind. Kidnap might be about feeling out of control, which would make sense with the location if you don't feel like you've got a handle on your diet at the moment (frankly who does at this time of year)?

poorpaws · 06/01/2023 20:05

Hi everyone.

I have to put my hand up and join the gainers. I weigh on Mondays but decided to have a quick mid weigh-in this morning to see how I'm doing and I've gained 1 lb. The first week and I've gained ! I know why, because I'm stupid.

I've eaten less for lunch and a lot less for my evening meal which I have at 5pm so I've starving in the evening and although I haven't eaten chocolate bars which I normally would, I've had bowls of cereals, lots of sweet cereals. No wonder I've put on weight so tonight I've got a homemade cottage pie out of the freezer and tomorrow I'll have that with a lot of broccoli and carrots to see if it will fill me. I've been slimming all my adult life and I never learn.

I feel we should all be doing fairly well on the very first week but it seems some of us are struggling. Time to try a little harder I feel, I've not even eaten out, I've managed all the damage at home.

Sending positive vibes to anyone struggling.

BeyondMyWits · 06/01/2023 20:28

I'm trying to channel those positive vibes @poorpaws .

My problem is the lag between eating and my weight gain. So my Christmas gain was not until New year, and to be honest it didn't stop til after new year, so who knows if I'll gain or lose come Monday!

Nimbostratus100 · 06/01/2023 20:30

Heeeelllllllpppppp. News years resolution remade and failed again every single day so far in 2023 😭tomorrow I have got to get this right

poorpaws · 06/01/2023 21:24

@Nimbostratus100 it's sooo hard after the Christmas excess. It will calm down in a few weeks.

Having said that I've eaten a packet of crisps, chocolate covered nuts, Christmas cake and a chocolate orange 🙈. I figured if I was going to fail I'd fail spectacularly! I'm a complete idiot and I'll regret this tomorrow.

Well done to the losers, please send me some willpower.

TalkToTheHand123 · 06/01/2023 22:13

I'm doing quite well but would do a bit better if I could refrain from puddings at my parents (2 or 3 per week when visiting). I was geared up to say no but was never asked, just put in front of me 😋😔

Zebracat · 06/01/2023 22:24

Thanks @PinkArt . I do feel out ofcontrol at Christmas. It’s supposed to be nice, but so many people and such high expectations. The food is only the half of it. It always takes awhile to get back to my rhythm. Our girl goes back to Uni on Monday and that will help. We normally have vegetable curry or soup on Fridays, to clear the fridge. But she hates it so we had a Chinese takeaway. I don’t want to compromise like that.Just had to undo my trousers.

TalkToTheHand123 · 07/01/2023 10:14

@Zebracat Had a chicken chow mein last night. Just a ready meal from Aldi. Was nice but getting withdrawls now 😯

OP posts:
Zebracat · 07/01/2023 10:27

@TalkToTheHand123 .a chicken chow mein ready meal sounds much better than crispy duck pancakes, sweet and sour chicken and vegetables in black bean sauce. I did insist on boiled rather than fried rice though, so that’s ok!

PinkArt · 07/01/2023 12:02

I think struggling this week makes a lot of sense though @poorpaws, once you take new years and resolutions out of the mix. It's the tail end of the eating to excess period, so most people still have a lot of treat food around. The weather is more suited to comfort food than light salads. It's the first week back at work for most people, so you want comfort again, and quick and easy.
Arguably January is the worst time in the year to try to lose weight.
And while I'm pleased I'm a pound down, it's only because I've not had much of a sweet tooth this week, otherwise I'd usually be raiding the remaining Christmas stash to get through the week!

Nimbostratus100 · 07/01/2023 12:33

have not failed yet so far today...

I find the first three days a real struggle to get into a healthy eating mode, if I get through that, its easier. Do other people find the same?

poorpaws · 07/01/2023 21:58

I was given a big box of Thorntons chocolates today, I opened the box. I will say no more 🤫🤐

Theredjellybean · 08/01/2023 09:49

@poorpaws ...just put box in bin
I hate food waste but honestly straight in bin with something awful on top to stop you getting them back out
It's the only thing that works for me.
I have also struggled as kept wanting to keep eating as if it was Christmas...kept finding myself saying...oh just one more day ...so went mad and binned everything I could and put unopened cheese in freezer
Weighing today...73.2....very pleased

TalkToTheHand123 · 08/01/2023 16:07

@Zebracat you got me drooling at those foods 😋. It's ok though as I've have had plenty torture recently so can handle it a lot better now, touch wood 😂

I was given a big bar of chocolate at Xmas which caught me off guard and succumbed. My skin didn't thank me for it, so quite motivated to have no more.

triplecheeese · 08/01/2023 17:27

Don't bin them, send them my way ❤️ I love the Viennese truffles! It is tough to resist when you're not in a good place to moderate though.

Zebracat · 09/01/2023 13:18

Monday morning weight is 99.5.
Im feeling a bit more positive today. Had my porridge for breakfast which really does seem to help and been for a swim. I had a target of swimming 3 x a week, which I was failing at, badly. So now my target is to swim everyday unless there is a good reason to not swim, or I’ve already been 4 times that week, and dont want to. I have also bought an online permit for car parking as that was a barrier to swimming.
My ds has also decided to make changes, finally. He is morbidly obese and it has been such a worry, so I think that will really help as he will appreciate healthy meals instead of whining about it.
I think I have set unrealistic targets in the past, so I just really want to get to 98 kilos within the next 3 or 4 weeks, and then aim for 2 kilos a month.
What did the other Monday weighers find?

Zebracat · 09/01/2023 13:30

Aargh, just looked and Ive gained a half kilo since last Monday. That sucks.
@TalkToTheHand123 I read a thing on MFP about puddings. Try the 3 spoonfuls rule. 1st bite is Hello! 2nd bite is Yum, you are lovely. 3rd bite is Thank you and goodbye. Then push it away. Don’t apologise, if asked, say that was delicious, and enough. They might then adapt their behaviour and start asking, but if they don’t, 3 bites is modest, and you can find the smallest spoon!

poorpaws · 09/01/2023 16:28

Half a pound on for me which is good considering I've had a hell of a week and finished it with Domino's pizza and all the trimmings last night plus a glass of wine and I rarely drink alcohol.

I really must get over the Christmas/New Year excess and settle down.

My daughter and two young grandchildren moved in for a month last night. We are squished into a small bungalow and it won't be easy. Ive emptied a shelf in the fridge for her (we are cooking for yourselves as we eat very different meals) and her shelf is full of lovely food which if I merely sniff at is bound to make me gain weight. I don't know how she does it, she's 7st 9 lbs 😩

Anyway today is a new start and I will try (again).

Some of us aren't doing quite so well as expected and I blame the difficulty of trying to cut down after so much gluttony at the end of last year. Keep soldiering on everyone.

BeyondMyWits · 09/01/2023 16:30

Well, the scales were not kind to me this morning... 15st5lb.... so, it is what it is and I am going for a reboot from here...

I was looking through my blood pressure diary... this time last year I was 16st 9lb... it has been long and slow and most of it has stayed off. I was a big size 22... have dropped to an 18/20 now. So that's nice.

Target for January is to lose 3lb. (final, final answer 😁)

effiesgoldwig · 09/01/2023 17:05

16st 10.5 for me this morning, so a pound and a half off this week!

Gets my weight loss to 1 stone 0.5 lbs since the start of November. Aiming for 4.5 lbs (just over 2 kilos) in the next 3 weeks. Then another half a stone in feb to get me into the "15something" weights which will be a 10 year low. Which is crazy when I think about it!

TalkToTheHand123 · 09/01/2023 17:44

Aww nice idea @Zebracat but they would know something was up as I've never not finished my plate / bowl 😯.

I'm trying to keep off pudding, chocolate and junk food as it seems to help improve my skin when I refrain, so some much needed extra motivation.

wow @effiesgoldwig , very impressive.
