Thought I'd save you the hassle @poorpaws.

Well done for those who have lost and good luck to those struggling.

My focus at the moment is just to be wiser for food selection and to keep active. The slow moving scales can wait although I did check this morning and showing I'm nearly back to 14 and a half stone.

I've been on the brat diet a few times for having a sensitive tummy and just noticed how much sugar is in one teaspoon amount 😳. I don't know why I'm surprised now that I think about it but I will have to cut down on that.

Diet not going great lately as I've been feeling like I've put on weight, but I did manage to restrict my evening TV time, so hopefully can keep doing that to stop some binging.

Thank you for this pearl, @Theredjellybean 'Easter is still 8 days away...you can do a lot of good or a lot of damage in 8 days.'.

I seem to have got my head back in a better place this week. I'm just a pound down (17' 4" this morning) but it's a pound in the right direction again and this was a perfect reminder of how much damage a couple of 'fuck it' weeks can do but also that every day can be a day where things move in the right direction.

Theredjellybean · 31/03/2023 15:15

@PinkArt
Thank you, and yes I'm going for one day in right direction at a time...we are going out tonight and I had almost done the classic "oh well this day is fucked so might as well go for it " but decided to try to hand on another hour ..now four layers have not had anything off plan and feel strong about making good choices tonight

Theredjellybean · 31/03/2023 15:16

So today will be another one day in right direction...cus if I blow it today I could blow the whole weekend
Plus today's weight was 72 kg....very positive

Gottoloveatakeaway · 31/03/2023 15:18

@PinkArt @Theredjellybean i like that statement and came just when I needed it. I put 2lbs on, mainly due to being at a conference for last 5 says and eating too much beige food.

Feel the need to eat veggies and feel healthy again. Will try and make my 8 days positive ones

thenewaveragebear1983 · 31/03/2023 18:03

I’ve had an ok few days. I made the decision to cut my calories down, so yesterday had 1250 and 60g carbs, today I look set to hit 1200 and maybe 60g carbs again. Today I am genuinely hungry. I went to the gym at lunchtime and it was a really tough circuits class. I popped into town this morning as well and bought some clothes (I lose track of the threads, was it this one we were discussing clothes shopping?) - some forest green high waisted flares, a really cute roll neck grey top, and some white trainers, all from TK. I then removed 20 items of dross from my wardrobe (some for Vinted, some for charity). I am actually pleased with what I bought and how it looks so that’s really positive. I had a hair appointment this afternoon and she’s done me a jaw length Bob and a sweepy fringe.

anyway, included in my calories today is 2 glasses of wine so I may decide not to have those and eat something extra instead! The weekend isn’t all planned yet, I have some pork belly to use up and a few other bits so should get through the weekend on track provided I can limit the incidental grazing. I’m going for a long run tomorrow and then on Sunday i really want to do a nice long yoga stretch out.

LightandAiry · 01/04/2023 09:02

Not a great day for me yesterday - visited a friend who had an accident & broke a vertebrae, I joined her in munching Cadbury's Fingers & a chocolate biscuit then had a Chinese Takeaway in the evening - not great. Although I am being persuaded to go sea swimming tomorrow....I will try and brace myself I've only ever done this in warm weather! Does anyone do open water swimming?

I like that @Theredjellybean today is another day moving forwards. I need to have a good weekend as I weigh on Monday - realistically I wouldn't have lost weight this week but I hope for no gain

Theredjellybean · 01/04/2023 10:09

hi all ...i have spectacular news..today i weighed in at 71.8 kgs....
yes first time under 72 for absolutely bloody ages
and i ate kebab and chips last night for dinner and night before went to a dinner party and had 3 courses...
my new possible life changing secret...i am now on restricted time eating .. abit like intermittent fasting but it is short window of time..i don't eat until 2 pm and stop by 8 pm absolute latest.
i am also drinking a pint of water before going to sleep which sounds bonkers but as i was already getting up to pee in the night this didn't' seem to make it any worse.
I have also only had alcohol once this week and kept it to 3 small glasses.
i am a bit shocked but weight has just gone down ...and down again..and again..

I got these ideas from a ticktok/insta person called greysister ( i think) some woman who aged in 50's dropped 20 lbs doing this and 20 mins exercise every day.

I am finding i get starving about 11:30 but when i make myself wait, the hunger actually goes away , and yesterday i didnt eat until the kebab and chips at 6 pm...

its not for everyone..but boy seems to be working for me and i cannot do exercise every day as on a strict rehab programme after serious spinal issues and it still works

thenewaveragebear1983 · 01/04/2023 10:29

@Theredjellybean that sounds awesome, well done 👏

@LightandAiry I love sea swimming in the summer, but no sure about a chilly spring day! Do you have a wetsuit??

Zebracat · 01/04/2023 10:55

I love sea swimming , but it will be cold. Eat well beforehand. Wet suit and shoes , if you have them and twice as many clothes as you think you need, and a thermos and snack for when you come out. Honestly, tshirt joggers, jumper coat and really thick socks, hat scarf, shawl. I went once in April and my friend got a massive blood pressure crash/ hypothermia. She hadn’t eaten and had a summer dress and cardi. I had to put most of my clothes on her, was so glad I took lots, it still took me 2 days to get warm!

Zebracat · 01/04/2023 11:23

Well done @Theredjellybean . I have to eat regularly. I have gout and , despite medication it gets out of control if I don’t eat 3 evenly spaced meals. Otherwise, I think that pattern would suit me quite well.
I think I’ve dropped the weight I gained when away. I’ve been really active this week, for me. Swum every day and other stuff too.

I actually feel quite good about myself which is odd as I am still 10 kilos into the obese category. I’m between a 16 and an 18, and I want to be a 14,but I keep looking at myself and wondering where the fat is. I have a bit of a belly, but that mainly looks like the after effects of 4 big babies. I always have boobs, I’m a 38 f and would rather be 36 Dd. But ,my legs are muscular, my hips are slim, and I can see my ribs. Someone at the pool told me I wouldn’t understand how hard it is to be fat! I thought they were joking, but they really weren’t, they were shocked when I told them that I’m 25 kilos away from a normal bmi., and I was in a swimsuit. This is not boasting or humble bragging or whatever, and my self assessment won’t impress the surgeon who wants me at least to be overweight, rather than obese, but it is a mystery to me .
Im probably delusional. The last time I was 71 kilos, I was 28, and certainly not thin. I need a reality check.

Theredjellybean · 01/04/2023 12:00

@zebracat .. i dont think you are delusional i think i am huge but actually it might be the proportions of us are odd...a 38 F is big around the back and in the cup , i am a 36 DD ( was 34 d pre meonpause) and while i can see my waist and hips arent big, and legs toned , i now had back fat rolls which i did not have pre menopause when i weighed the same as now. my body is a different shape and it is that which is so frustrating.
i realise that to get the body shape back that i want i need to lose weight and be a lower weight than i was pre the menopause hence the dieting ...
I am also realising i feel better about myself too...some ofit is accepting that my body has changed and while i can diet it back to a better shape it is not going to be how it was.
maybe you are too are coming to this acceptance...its not that i am saying 'oh lets just accept being fat'..i think halthy bmi/weigh tis important but we should be proud of what our bodies have done for us so far and now look after them too

Theredjellybean · 01/04/2023 12:00

also some of the fat is likely on your boobs ..yrs ago i had breast reduction surgery.
i went form 36 HH to 36 DD and i lost 4.4 kgs overnight !

LightandAiry · 01/04/2023 14:27

@Theredjellybean great news on your kg loss. My DH gets feds up with me as I still have to translate that into stones & lb! You've inspired me to try time restricted eating again; I keep making a start but then not continuing.

@thenewaveragebear1983 I don't have a wet suit, I'm not sure I fancy it tomorrow but apparently the weather will be OK, not too cold..

@Zebracat your poor friend re the April swim. Thank you for the advice I will pack myself plenty of clothes; I may try and persuade my friend to come with me to a local artificial lake instead: changing rooms, sauna and hot drink afterwards! I may wimp out - but friend only stays in for a few minutes the quickly gets changed.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 01/04/2023 15:38

Hi All. Sorry to hear some are struggling with the clothes shopping. I think maybe it's to do with a sudden much longer term exposure to mirrors than we are used to at home. I just get dressed and pose myself for a brief check when it's all done, and the cellulite and wobbly bits are back under cover. I don't think its as easy when clothes shopping. I always feel fatter on holidays too, when I'm sat around in a swimsuit. I'm not objectively fatter, just haven't had to think about it as much in full normal clothes iuswim.

@LightandAiry I've taken to having a frittata/omelette thing for breakfast. I put a bowl of frozen veg and spinach in the fridge, having got it out of the freezer. In the morning I chuck it in a non stick fry pan for a few minutes, with a couple of beaten eggs, mixed herbs, cheese allowance etc. Fills me up quite nicely, and means I don't use my 'bread' allowance first thing. Also increases speed food. Might something like that work?

Hope everyone is having a good weekend, apart from clothes thing.

LightandAiry · 01/04/2023 17:06

That's a great idea @SpongeBobJudgeyPants I'll try that tomorrow, if I am to eat well before swimming (if I don't bottle out) I can have bread at lunch. Hope you're having a good weekend too.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 01/04/2023 17:11

I agree @SpongeBobJudgeyPants, I also feel like things are tighter when they are brand new, sizes are less forgiving, the pressure of the cost of things, and Also the pressure if ‘I have to find something’ - for me the worst is always jeans and swimwear, and summer sandals (I have very difficult, painful, runners feet) and every year I have the same issue. I am realising as I get older that I need to throw more money at the issue, which again is not always easy, but I am far more likely to find what I want when I don’t restrict myself to a few cheaper places and expand my range of possibilities.

@LightandAiry my current lunch of choice is a stuffed cucumber “boat” - half a cucumber and then half it lengthways, scoop out the watery bit, then stuff it with eh, tuna mayo, or yesterday I did mackerel fillet, mayo and lemon juice, sprinkle of cayenne on the top. I have found them really filling, take a while to eat and really satisfying. next week I want to try a prawn cocktail one!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 02/04/2023 11:22

Thanks @LightandAiry yes. @thenewaveragebear1983 I'm increasingly finding this about the money/clothes thing. I have a tendency to impulse buy cheaper tops etc, which don't really fill me with joy to wear. If I were to resist that urge, and make a considered better purchase every so often, I probably wouldn't actually spend more. Fabrics tend to be better, thicker, more forgiving. I just need to resist the rush from 'new thing to wear' and then find it isnt actually that good! Cucumber boat sounds good!

poorpaws · 03/04/2023 07:53

Good morning everyone, I hope you are all well on this chilly Monday morning.

I've lost 1.25 lbs this week, which was quite a nice surprise. Mainly lost through exercise more than limiting food. I've been doing a minimum of 15,500 steps every day to kick start a loss. Steps done mainly on long dog walk, shopping and daily dvd exercises so I'll try to continue this throughout April. I go to bed shattered so am sleeping a little better.

I hope you are all doing well, not long to Easter now (and it's going to be sunny and warm) so try for a final push.

effiesgoldwig · 03/04/2023 10:13

Morning all. 15st 12 here today. Which is half a pound up from a month ago so that's a bit of a disaster. I've just not been doing it properly this month at all it's not good. Need a refresh and a reset. Am off work for two weeks now so going to try and get myself organised and start counting my calories properly and getting myself a properly weighed snack each day instead of grazing again like I have been.

Operation sort out the house and occupy myself so that I forget to eat because I'm bored starts today. Then I'll be thin and have a tidy house.

Zebracat · 03/04/2023 15:02

96.5, so a kilo down from last Monday, but up from the week before that. I’m quite happy with that. I would love to get into the 95s by Easter. Maybe I will.

LightandAiry · 03/04/2023 18:38

My Sunday sea swim didn't happen - after me blathering on. My ds came home from uni for a flying visit overnight and I've not seen him since February; I wasn't letting anyone down as it's part of a group so I chose spending a short time with Ds. Instead we will try and organise a swim next week, or in my case a quick dip.

We've spent the day in London; my DD went to an offers day at UCL 🤞 We were up very early and I forgot to weigh in and today has not been great food choices - I should have packed a lunch etc. But I have walked nearly 17,000 steps.

Well done on weight losses @Zebracat

LightandAiry · 03/04/2023 18:41

@effiesgoldwig I would take that as a maintain, half on is very minimal

thenewaveragebear1983 · 03/04/2023 21:12

Well something has definitely ‘clicked’ for me this week, I genuinely can’t remember the last time I consistently stuck to plan even for 5 days, and yet this week I have come in at a deficit every day since Thursday. I reduced my calorie allowance to 1300 so a couple of days I have exceeded this but I have had exercise calories which I have used a bit of (my cal allowance assumes totally sedentary).

It’s my office day tomorrow- I find it tough, I don’t drink enough water and it’s quite a long draining day for me, starting at the gym at 6.00 and ending with ds’s football club til 7pm) I’ve prepped my breakfast (greek yog and fruit) and my lunch (cucumber boats with tuna mayo, cheese, fruit) and dinner is seasoned pre-prepped chicken breast fillets with salad. The key to actually sticking to that will be ensuring I drink enough water during the day. If I get dehydrated then I find I totally crash.

i did a little weigh in on Saturday and I am actually excited to weigh in on Wednesday for a change as I really think I’ll have given myself the kick start I needed!

hope everyone is having a good week!
