Thought I'd save you the hassle @poorpaws.

Well done for those who have lost and good luck to those struggling.

My focus at the moment is just to be wiser for food selection and to keep active. The slow moving scales can wait although I did check this morning and showing I'm nearly back to 14 and a half stone.

I'll have to cut out the snacks as hitting the drink already 🤭

I have put on some jeans I've not worn for a couple of weeks and they are tighter - taking this day by day, no biscuits or treats today.

@thenewaveragebear1983 are you doing MFP or similar? I like the way your calories are listed per day. I will be doing Tuna cucumber boat for lunch.

@TalkToTheHand123 I love Bailey's but gin is more slimming friendly. Snacks go with a drink for me so I am avoiding this week!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/04/2023 13:12

@LightandAiry that’s nutracheck, for some reason I never really got on with MFP even though I imagine they are similar. There’s just a lot of features of NC that I like (eg you can change your start day etc)
I have also changed my diary titles so instead of breakfast/lunch/dinner etc I have protein/fat, veg, fruit, and junk which helps me balance where my calories are coming from. It’s really helping me and I’m finding I’m looking at my veg list and it looks a bit sparse so I add a few extras in there for example, rather than seeing just a calorie target to reach (or exceed)

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 04/04/2023 19:28

Hi All. Well done to the losers. Half a pound over a month is more or less a maintain really. @LightandAiry you'll get your dip soon. Time with family is important. Well done on all the walking.
I've lost 3.5 this week, which is most of the holiday/birthday gain from previous weigh in. Need to do more excercise, and today the weather seems to have improved, which helps my mood and the motivation to excercise. It's always good when it all clicks in @thenewaveragebear1983

LightandAiry · 04/04/2023 20:07

I just watched that @SpongeBobJudgeyPants as soon as we're told "you can't have that" it causes cravings that makes sense. Freedom to choose = better choices.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/04/2023 19:59

I did my mid week check in and I’m down 3.5lbs, total loss this year is now 12.5lbs. I’m really pleased with that and it’s motivated me to try to protect that and aim for a further 1.5lb to make a stone, which is a good incentive for the weekend ahead! Today I did feel hungry, so tonight I’m bulking my dinner out with loads of veg and having some additional fat in the form of feta cheese to keep me going.

the weekend is looming, I’m really determined to stay on track as much as I can and continue to count my calories. I have a pub lunch on Saturday, easy enough to stick to plan in principle but must resist temptation, and on Monday we have a buffet at MIL’s which again will be easy enough to stick to salad and cold meat as long as I actually do stick to it. I do have an Easter egg for Sunday so I will be eating some of that! My aim is stick to it completely until Sunday evening when I eat my egg, and back on it asap.

TalkToTheHand123 · 06/04/2023 00:13

Aww @LightandAiry , my trouble with spirits is that I can't drink them slowly.

I've been doing a lot of walking as our accommodation is far from the entertainment and a little swimming which I might get back into when I get home. Eating okish.

When I get home I may go on my fish and veg meals for an evening regularly as that seemed to help me lose weight.

@SpongeBobJudgeyPants I've just downloaded a book on my Kindle by Gillian Riley.

LightandAiry · 06/04/2023 11:15

I know what you mean @TalkToTheHand123

I like salmon for fish dinner; usually In have it with some sort of carbs & veg but could do large portion of roasted veg

MrsBlondie · 06/04/2023 11:45

Hello all can I join?
Have 1.5 stone to shift.

Joined ww yesterday (on-line). Getting used to the app. Anyone else use ww?

I've been out for a 5k rin today. Feeling positive that this time I can do this.

TalkToTheHand123 · 06/04/2023 11:57

Welcome @MrsBlondie and good luck.

Rain has finally stopped so hopefully go for a walk on the beach if dd6 finishes her tantrum.

I'm having slices of bread with butter on to get me through in between meal times and glasses of water.

Hi...I've been away on three days to a conference in Dubai..managed to only gain 2lbs..minor miracle and I'm back to strict eating window, calories all accounted for and regular exercise.
I've signed up for two half marathons in the autumn so going to be pushing the spinal rehab and I've remembered my hrt every day for 11 days straight
Well done everyone for just sticking with it.

Zebracat · 06/04/2023 19:36

I’m celebrating 1 good day here. I made a spinach and herb soup, with stuff I was clearing out of my garden beds. Got enough for some lunches too. Had a really strenuous swim and gardened. I feel so healthy and virtuous!

TalkToTheHand123 · 07/04/2023 20:48

I'm believing that's the way to go @Zebracat , taking it one day at a time.

Good morning everyone on this rainy Easter Monday morning.

I braved the scales after a chocolate laden Easter and I have gained 2.25 lbs. Although I ate Easter eggs I also did long dog walks and some exercise dvds. Easter is my favourite time, much more than Christmas, so I'm not really too upset about the gain. For the most part the weather was lovely, we enjoyed our walks in the sunshine and relaxed in the garden.

I've got a couple of nights out too which include food, a cavery on Thursday and on Saturday a night at the caravan site club house (pizza and chips included) so I'll try to cut down between those dates.

I hope everyone had a lovely Easter. What did you do, how did you do? I'm hoping to get back on it properly next week but try to not eat excessively this week too.

Zebracat · 10/04/2023 09:30

Good Morning. I lost the gained weight from my mini break in Yorkshire just in time to put it on again for Easter. But, like you @poorpaws , I’m not too fussed, getting so much better at balancing my intake over the week , so soup lunch, restaurant dinner, Easter family lunch, apple for dinner. So I am confident that the 1.5 kilo gain will soon be gone. Just waved goodbye to the visitors and happily curled up on the sofa with the old dog. Leftovers today.

poorpaws · 10/04/2023 09:38

@Zebracat I'm in this for the long haul and tbh it's been a long haul so far. I'd like to lose a stone by this autumn but I'd also like to tone up a bit and make my muscles stronger. I think my legs are stronger and DP confirmed this by telling me I have big calves from walking the dogs 😩

If I eat too little I always make myself ill, every single time. I think my ME plays up and says more food, so I'm trying to eat healthily and make good choices (just not during easter).

Zebracat · 10/04/2023 10:10

@poorpaws . I’m still hoping for a stone by the Summer, but only because of this hip replacement malarkey. I’m certain that slow loss and lifestyle change is better, but even when I feel that’s firmly established, life gets in the way and I can slip.
I was 108 kilos in Jan 2017 and prediabetic, lost 20 kilos over the year, absolutely certain I would continue with my new good habits.
Then in 2018 we had a massive family crisis and gained a teenager with malnutrition. I put on 10 kilos, but worse, began smoking like a fiend.
2019 , Stopped smoking and gained the other 10 kilos back. 2020 , lockdown , managed to begin losing weight slowly. 2021, I was 95 kilos. Then my hip stopped working and so through 2022, I got to 108 kilos. I now have gout and arthritis . I am determined to not add any more obesity related conditions to that list. Being a size 12 or 14 would be lovely, I like clothes, and it’s easier to put things together at that size, but for me it’s all about avoiding any more health issues. This year of not being able to walk any where has been an absolute misery.
So, although it feels sometimes that we dick about in this group, at some level it has helped me make the long term changes I need. I have learned loads from everyone else. I think I understand that sometimes circumstances do genuinely get in the way of progress, and seeing weight gain at those times as an individual failure is unhelpful. However, self awareness, and the choices we make day to day can smooth out with those bumps and allow for real change.

Zebracat · 10/04/2023 10:17

Oh yes , and I agree, that you have a tendency to eat too little and make yourself Ill and also at times to slightly over exercise. And I thought that without knowing about the ME !

poorpaws · 10/04/2023 13:25

@Zebracat my biggest downfall is being an all or nothing person, black or white with no grey. When I go for it I give it my all and then some but also my binge times are legendary. I was diagnosed with ME in 2001 and the specialists words were "you can't cheat ME, you have to eat well". You'd think I'd learn 🙈

I think looking at your journey you've done very well. Being on here helps I think as we all fail and then do so well at times, it's a long, long road.

LightandAiry · 10/04/2023 17:22

The sun is shining through the clouds here now; I have had a good day after a chocolate filled weekend! We visited my DS in his uni town yesterday and had lunch at Bella Italia...it was great to see him, he is studying hard and only has a few weeks left.

@poorpaws I agree it is a long road, I've been in too much of a hurry and gained the weight back and this time I really don't want to do that

@Zebracat your journey sounds incredibly stressful; when I lost my DF I gained weight, then my DM was diagnosed with dementia. I agree health is paramount. Have you still got the prediabetes? I have it and hope to get rid. My DF had type 2 diabetes and it made later life more difficult

Zebracat · 10/04/2023 18:34

@LightandAiry I thinkIm just outsideth3prediabetes range now, but of course could easily fall back in!

Good evening ladies, just catching up with the thread.

I had a nice Easter weekend, Friday and Saturday I was a slimming angel, yesterday and today I’ve been a total sugar monster. So a weekend of 2 halves. I’ve done 3 runs and a workout so offset a little and today I didn’t even calorie count so god knows what I have had. But I’m back on it tomorrow.

it’s my office day tomorrow and I will take a rest day (no run or w/out) but I will go for a walk with a podcast in the evening. My food is all sorted and I’ve preloaded the nutracheck. It will be an interesting week, dh has annual leave and I’m working, literally the first time in 15 years as I’ve always worked in education and been off with the kids. So I have completely thrown the gauntlet to him, he’s doing all cooking and kids stuff for the week. I have bought a few gym kitchen ready meals so if his plan doesn’t suit I can have one of those for my Evening meal.

the difficult thing will be getting back into that nice strict state of mind I was in last week. Tomorrow the key will be water- I drink loads when I WFH but my office day I don’t and then I get home completely frazzled and ravenous. So I need to make sure I drink a lot throughout the day so when I get home I have time to make sensible choices, especially when there is so much accessible sugary junk around.

I’m going to fast until lunch time, then I have a salad with chicken and avocado, and some fruit all packed for lunch. I’m going to leave an apple in my car as well to eat on my way home. Then dinner is a chicken Parmigiana and loads of veg. Weigh in isn’t til weds so if I can have a good low carb day tomorrow I can shift some of the water weight/bloat from today.

Zebracat · 11/04/2023 09:45

Love your split personality @thenewaveragebear1983 . And that sounds like a really good plan. My Dh surprised me with a huge extra egg. I was certainly surprised, he never does stuff like that and 1 egg already was a bit of a stretch given where I am. But I think the 4 of us will have a games night and eat it between us tho, so not just me getting all the calories.
Back to porridge, soup and swimming this week. I’ve had my critical family here telling me where the worst bits of my garden are, so I will also keep busy with that. So weird, don’t know if this is a non scale victory, but I can really see the extra kilo I am carrying (on top of the extra 20), and it’s making me quite uncomfortable. Does that sound like a thin persons thought?
