Lose +/- 7lbs with me

Would anyone like to join me in losing just a few pounds?

Despite cutting back on biscuits and alcohol and keeping active, I've put on 8lbs due to the menopause - most of it feels like it's around my middle and I'm not feeling good about it.

I enjoy walking, so am going to try and to a bit more on top of my usual exercise, also some toning exercises for my stomach/core. Not willing to starve myself, so going to try and make better choices/have slightly smaller portions.

I've done so badly over the last few days. I'm coming down with something today and i've been eating non-stop because I feel grotty.

@neverendinglauaundry sounds like you've a really healthy attitude to your weight loss! well done on what you've lost so far.

ifonly4 · 14/02/2023 15:05

neverendinglauaundry Well done on the weight loss, you're certainly going in the right direction.

Spirini Hope you feel better soon. Sometimes when you're not feeling great, I think you just have to go with the flow and do what your body wants!

I'm a bit like thenewaveragebear1983 - I'm on a lucky maintain, which has actually been going on about three weeks - I'm hovering around a 7-8lb weight loss, but no idea how. I've been fairly good during the day, but overall I know I'm eating more than I should be, so really need to make some adjustments.

I’m still feeling under the weather with a lingering cold, the knock on effect of disturbed sleep, feeling tired etc and not feeling 100% day after day just gets quite miserable doesn’t it? I’m also due on and because last month I had a totally random 16 day period, I have genuinely no idea if I’m due, and when. I feel hormonal but who knows? 🤷‍♀️

last night dh “cooked” which means an M&S meal for 2 which was very nice but a lot of calories, and 2.5 glasses wine. So I feel even more tired and rubbish today! I didn’t do my mid week weigh in and not feeling like I am on track really.

i know I say this repeatedly but I really really really need a few decent days on plan. It’s so bloody hard though isn’t it? A week of calorie counting undone by one night off plan, we are out again on Saturday as well. I sometimes find it astonishing that anyone actually consistently eats 1500 calories a day and still has any form of social life or treats, or alcohol. How? I just cannot eat that little consistently. Am I just a glutton or are my portion sizes ludicrously over sized, or am I eating totally the wrong foods? I can’t see how it can be done. I look at a 1500 calorie menu plan and it looks doable but I just cannot exist on it when anything else comes up.

sorry for my self pitying moan!

neverendinglauaundry · 20/02/2023 07:59

Hi @thenewaveragebear1983 I don't think anyone does consistently eat that few calories tbh! Not anyone who isn't very short anyway. I hope you had a good weekend. It is horrible feeling constantly ill isn't it? Sounds like you need a bit of mollycoddling. DD has had a very lingering cold all through half term and is feeling miserable too.
I weighed myself this morning and I'm still the same weight which is fine. My guts feel better for cutting out snacks and I'm having lots of nice meals. About to enter into a super busy period at work which will make cooking more difficult due to very long hours so that's my challenge for the next month.
How are things with you @Spirini & @ifonly4 ?

Spirini · 20/02/2023 12:08

Hello! I had a horrible cold all last week but it's on the way out now, thankfully. I did quite well for a few days, but then fell off the wagon on the weekend and un-did it all. What's the point in killing myself mid-week if I'm going to eat sharing bags of crisps to myself while sipping white wine on a friday and saturday night?!
I'm putting a line under it for now and I've a re-newed focus. I went to the gym this morning to re-start my couch to 5k which is the first time I've been to the gym since September (eek!). My plan is to exercise 3x a week and I hope I'll find it easier to stay on track. Normally when I'm in 'gym-mode' I'm also in 'not eating crap mode'.

@neverendinglauaundry work scuppers so much for me too, hence why I haven't been at the gym since Sept. Would meal planning help?

@thenewaveragebear1983 how are you feeling now?

LittleBrownBaby · 20/02/2023 12:22

Hi, can I join? I have 7lbs to lose in 6 weeks which I know sounds easy. I am 5ft 1 and half a stone really shows on me. I want to be in a bikini for Easter hols and half a stone makes all the difference. In on WW which I've done before with lots of success. I always go for slow and steady!

So starting weight is 8st 13lbs and aim is 8st 6lbs by 1st April. I exercise 3 times a week. Keep me accountable! Thanks

Spirini · 20/02/2023 16:20

@LittleBrownBaby our stats are sooo similar. I'm 5'0 and a couple lbs heavier than you, I can totally relate to how half a stone makes a huge difference when you're short.

What's your plan?

LittleBrownBaby · 20/02/2023 20:33

@Spirini amazing! Let's keep each other company! I am on weight watchers just because I find that easier than calorie counting and I've found that it always works and tends to stay off. I have three kids and work full time so do fall into a trap of snacking where I can - but I'm good in general. And I'll exercise 3-4 times a week. I never diet to the point of cutting everything fun out - as I enjoy food and booze! How about you?

ifonly4 · 21/02/2023 18:19

Welcome LittleBrownBaby.

I managed to lose 8lb and I've taken my foot off the peddle to some extent. Haven't put any weight back on over last three weeks until I weighed myself today and am 2lbs heavier. I'm off work this week and unfortunately there's an excuse every day to have a treat, ie DH off, meeting friends, seeing DM, day trip, trip to town. I really don't want it to creep back on again so will just have to do what I can around treats and get back on it properly next week.

I'm a little taller here, 5ft3in, but still really notice the difference with an extra half stone, goes on my stomach and bottom.

thenewaveragebear1983 hope you're feeling better now.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 21/02/2023 21:22

@ifonly4 thank you, I am feeling much better. Still got a lingering cold though, that’s been a good few weeks now. Lots of germs about. But my mood is definitely improved.

I had a bit of a ‘day off’ today, went for lunch with my sil and then of course it was pancake day so I had 2 with Nutella and banana and they were delicious! No calories counted today, although I did go for a run this morning. Back on it tomorrow. Before today, the last 3 days I have stuck to 1550 calories, that’s what nutracheck allows me to lose 1lb a week. I’ve been pretty hungry, but have tried to keep really busy. I didn’t drink at the weekend, and have already primed dh that I don’t intend to drink this weekend either. Today’s ‘overspend’ probably wipes out my 3 good days deficit but I’m trying not to see it that way!

LittleBrownBaby · 22/02/2023 08:58

Thanks @ifonly4.

1lb down - 6 to go by April 1st.

I've been running and going to my PT and sticking to WW so should be doable.

I know what you mean about the excuses - I am the worst for justifying a treat. I think we should all have treats time to time (life is way too short) but I think you can balance them out by doing more exercise or having less calories with a different meal that day etc.

My half a stone goes on my tummy and my double chin!!

Ohyesthankyouglitter · 23/02/2023 09:18

Just checking in - had assumed the thread had died, so nice to see a few of us still here.
I'm back on it this week, after several weeks of dealing with some stressful health situations for one of my teenagers.

I've not weighed myself recently, and don't want to quite yet, but I can tell in my belly that I probably undid all the good work I did the first half of Jan! In times of crisis, I just seem to turn to crisps and chocolate, mindlessly eating - it's comfort, I know.

Will aim to lose half a stone by Easter in the first instance.

My strategy is:
No snacking on anything other than fruit or nuts.
Drink lots chilled water with a slice of frozen lemon in, yum :)
16:8 most days
If my body is seeming capable and the situation at home allows for it, two days a week I'm being even more restricted (not strictly 5:2) but that sort of idea.

This sort of strategy seems to allow for the flexibility to go with the ebbs and flows of social life/birthdays/occasions. No food is forbidden, but I am mindful that drinking wine gives me the munchies, so is best avoided.

Spirini · 23/02/2023 12:51

@LittleBrownBaby I find calorie counting so hard, so hard it makes me depressed, haha.

Work/life/kids is my downfall too. In work I stay on track with a packed lunch and a really busy day, but in the evenings when I'm knackered, I want to 'reward' myself with a glass of wine and inevitably I scoff cheese and crackers and it all becomes undone (we share the same problem re alcohol=nibbles @Ohyesthankyouglitter).

But this week has been good for me, I've pretty much stayed on plan and I've managed to do two c25k training sessions. The first I did on a treadmill and it was tough, second was on the road and it was a doddle! Seem to have gone up on the scales but I reckon it's my body holding lactic acid, I'm a bit stiff all over.

Plan is to head out again tomorrow morning and I've decided despite not being remotely religious (although DH is) that I'll do 3 runs a week for Lent. Should be doable.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 25/02/2023 09:22

Saturday weigh in and I’m 160.4lbs, so a 2lb loss this week (ish). I actually wasn’t expecting that so I’m pleased. Total loss this year is 8.5lbs, so still just about on track for my 1lbs a week goal. I think I’ve learned that if I actually want to achieve this, I need to be much much tighter with calories and portions, and pretty much no grazing or snacking. It’s a depressing thought I guess, but basically I eat too much!

anyway, I have a spring in my step today. Ran 5km this morning, and will be getting some jobs done round the house today, on a roll with my big clear out. Dh is cooking tonight so I have no idea what that will involve but it usually focusses heavily on meat and cheese. Not drinking today, I had a glass of red wine last night and had a thumping head this morning so I’m not in the mood for that again!

have a great weekend y’all

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/02/2023 20:17

How is everyone doing?
I had a good weekend, I feel like I’ve enjoyed my food but i haven’t just eaten for the sake of it. Same with alcohol.

today i just really fancied lasagne, something I’d never normally make as it’s so calorific. I had a light lunch, ran 15km, and I just thought do you know what, I’m going to make one- and it was delicious! I have just done a little tot up of cals and I reckon I’m on 2000 for the day, which is high but not ridiculous as I ran so far.

I plan to have quite a strict week. It’s my optimum week of my cycle for weight loss so I plan to maximise that by sticking strictly to calories and drinking lots of water. I am determined to be under 160lbs when I weigh in on Saturday - bring it on!

ifonly4 · 28/02/2023 10:43

thenewaveragebear1983 You're doing so well.

I'm really not on it, but hoovering constantly at a 7/8lb loss. I'm managing to have a smaller breakfast, healthier lunch and fewer calories from daytime snacks, but all seems to go out of the window around 5pm. Having said that, I have to be positive in that I'm maintaining. Another couple of pounds would be good, as I'll be back to what I'd previously been for years.

DH will be back really late tonight, so I can have my tea when I want rather than trying to string it out when I'm hungry.

Wheretheskyisblue · 28/02/2023 16:01

Can I join too please. I have been trying to get from 62kg to my target of 53kg for 3 weeks and have lost 2kg so far. I am 5'5" with not much muscle and a small frame so the fat really shows on me. Currently my size 10 trousers are a squash and I would like to get into them more easily in time for summer.

I have been doing 16:8 and trying to keep my calaries below 1200 but keep being scuppered by DH bringing home takeaways. Otherwise the diet is going well and I haven't felt very hungry, reducing carbs and sugar has helped with hunger pangs.

Spirini · 06/03/2023 13:01

I'm doing so badly, it's getting quite depressing. I stick to my diet Monday-Friday but it all unravels at the weekend and I'm the same weight I was a month ago. I've also been doing c25k three times a week which is great for my overall health but I'm pissed off that I'm not seeing any progress!

waves @Wheretheskyisblue welcome, sounds like you're making good progress :)

thenewaveragebear1983 · 12/03/2023 08:05

Hi, how is everyone doing?

I have had a truly terrible week - I had a really bad infection after my tooth extraction, have ended up on antibiotics and have felt really really sorry for myself. Food has been off the scale! And no exercise. And precisely zero self care of any sort. Finally feel a bit better today and determined to make this week a good one.

the plus side of the antibiotics is that I haven’t drunk this weekend so I feel quite sprightly today, sun is shining, I feel determined to shake off this sluggish ‘poorly’ feeling and make some solid plans for a better week.

what does a ‘good week’ look like for you? For me it’s: getting my exercise in, drinking 2l a day, eating 5 veg a day, not crashing out in the biscuit tin at 3pm , cleaner eating and generally taking a bit better care of myself - I feel it shows terribly on my face/body when I have a week like last week, and it shows in my running and my motivation as well.

Spirini · 12/03/2023 17:29

@thenewaveragebear1983 I'm so sorry to hear about your tooth, I've had similar in the past and I know how horrible it is. Great that you're on the mend.

The scales finally moved for me, woo! I'm down a lb.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 12/03/2023 19:07

Great news @Spirini, glad you have had a better weekend

FurryFerrets33 · 13/03/2023 17:43

Can I join please? I currently am 168lbs and 5ft 7in. I’ve a chronic illness that makes exercise difficult and have just started a sedentary job. Before lockdown I was 132lbs but binge eating has got a bit out of hand hence the weight gain. I want to be at 140-147lbs ideally. I’m also very top heavy (32J) and hoping I can loose some weight in that area! I’m planning on drinking more water, ditching the sugar and protein at every meal. Anyone have any other suggestions?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/03/2023 17:09

Hi @FurryFerrets33 you are a similar build to me, i am 5”7 and 163 pounds, I don’t have the 32J’s though- I carry all my weight on my thighs, backside and now, belly. I feel like it’s the belly weight that makes me feel so frumpy.

I’ve had a good day today. My mouth is STILLL swollen and sore, it’s not as infected now but it’s still not right. It’s giving the the RAGE! I decided I would work out or run every day this week so today I ran and went for s walk with ds as he was off school after being sick. I have really tried to low carb as well. On my nutracheck app instead of recording meals I have recorded all the protein/fat foods that I weigh, in one slot and the veg that I eat in another. I’m just going to do this for a few days to get an idea of my macros and to try to steer me away from stodgy carby stuff delicious toast and butter at 4pm

ifonly4 · 22/03/2023 15:53

Sorry I haven't posted for a while, had friends staying, then DH has been ill and I now have a cold.

Not sure how I did it, but I've reached my target of a 9lb loss - half suspect it's due to fact I haven't done quite so much exercise the last couple of weeks so could be muscle weight loss.

I've slipped in terms of being so focused, but still managing to incorporate some changes I made - slightly less breakfast, definitely less calories at lunch, one biscuit instead of two and if I have crisps, I'm having less. I guess I've got the balance right now as I'm not gaining.

Clothes are looser, and I can see I've lost weight off my top, hips and thighs. Ideally I'd like to have lost more off my stomach, but I guess my shape has changed. Not expecting miracles, but when I feel better will try and incorporate more tummy toning exercises into my week.

FurryFerrets33 · 27/03/2023 16:37

Well done @ifonly4 !

Im struggling a bit and am eating a lot of carbs. I need to find some willpower to lose that first 0.5 stone.
