Lose +/- 7lbs with me

Would anyone like to join me in losing just a few pounds?

Despite cutting back on biscuits and alcohol and keeping active, I've put on 8lbs due to the menopause - most of it feels like it's around my middle and I'm not feeling good about it.

I enjoy walking, so am going to try and to a bit more on top of my usual exercise, also some toning exercises for my stomach/core. Not willing to starve myself, so going to try and make better choices/have slightly smaller portions.

Totally on the same wavelength re food @thenewaveragebear1983. The adage re not being able to outrun a bad diet is so true and I know I feel so much better when eating cleaner.

I used to either run or gym first thing and then for the rest of the day I didn't want to undo my hard work - can you tell I miss running as I keep banging on about it! Your PT sounds awesome - doesnt matter where or when as long as it floats your boat.
On that note, I've decided to switch gyms, get back to early morning spins. I know it will result in a delicate undercarriage to start with but if it helps my mindset, it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make

ifonly4 · 07/11/2022 10:53

thenewaveragebear1983 We're all going to have good and bad days, but hopefully you can find a way of balancing. I'm half aware I've been eating a bit more as I drink less water in winter, so your comment has made me think I definitely need to drink more (water!) especially when I'm eating.

If any of us aren't feeling great, then I'd also suggest fruit or a healthy snack to get us through.

I knew I'd struggle a bit with our day out on Saturday - impressed with myself though, the market didn't have the gooey chocolate brownies I wanted, so I did without. Managed to avoid eating crisps, which I often do before tea.

Sundays aren't easy either. I have an early start and never know if my first break will be at two hours or whole thing at five hours. I get a headache and shaky if it ends up five hours, so end up eating fruit on way to work as well as extra breakfast. Not a lot, but I'd say I eat around 250 cals less yesterday.

The week will be easier.

Today cereal, slice toast with peanut butter and apple. Probably going to do a veggie bolognese later and I'll have less pasta.

Please could I join? Not going to weigh as I find it so demoralising. I know from my clothes I'm probably a solid 10lb from where I would like to be. Going to sim to do the 30 day shred and get my week day calories on at 1400, 1800 at the weekend. Just trying to tell myself what a difference that would make even 4 weeks from now, and try be motivated by that!

Marmut · 07/11/2022 18:11

Day 3 went well so far. Walked to and back from work as my exercise, accumulating about 15k steps, and sticked to 1200-ish calories intake. I think I finally get used to the low calorie intake and no longer feeling weak.
@Restlessinthenorth welcome to the club🙂Your plan sounds solid. It does help to think that it is just momentary and there is light at the end of the tunnel.

hayshay · 07/11/2022 18:48

Can I join too please? Until covid hit me in September I was doing ok - C25K 3 times a week, eating fairly well and losing my menopausal middle. Since then I have done no exercise, am eating all the food and my tummy is spreading.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/11/2022 19:49

i’ve had a much better day today. 1300 cals, didn’t do any specific exercise but I did sand my living room floor with an industrial sander which was surprisingly hard work. I have eaten a lot of protein today which has definitely helped me to curb my incessant snacking.

tomorrow: more of the same, lots of water, lots of protein, going to the gym at 6am and possibly a run later in the day if I have time, plus will need to finish my floor!

neverendinglauaundry · 07/11/2022 21:18

Sounds like everyone has had a good day! Welcome @hayshay
I've done ok today, I'm slightly under my step goal (8000 rather than 10) as I've been too busy to do anything other than my usual walk to work & back.
B. Cinnamon bagel with peanut butter & honey 2 white coffees (450)
L. Chicken soup, toast & butter, apple, peanut butter (550)
D. Vegan pattie (420)

I've got 80 calories left and could do with something else, it was supposed to be peas to go with the pattie

1ittlegreen · 07/11/2022 21:34

I would really like this. Peri-menopausal and comfort eating for months now.

Moved away from London to a very rural area and miss my classes!

Planning on walking more and eating less shit but I've forgotten what I used to eat!

I think I'm the heaviest I've ever been and I have a chin forming like Ian Hislop.

Restlessinthenorth · 07/11/2022 22:05

Really good day for me today, although im out for an unavoidable lunch tomorrow, so will be a case of choosing the best option available and then pulling it back at dinner time. I will also absolutely commit to doing the shred too!

neverendinglauaundry · 07/11/2022 22:23

What is a shred? Sounds painful!

Restlessinthenorth · 08/11/2022 06:20

@neverendinglauaundry apologies for presuming everyone would know what it I! It's a workout dvd by Jillian Michaels. Only 20 mins long so really achievable if you grit your teeth. But v hard work! I'm aching today!

GFLoser · 08/11/2022 07:14

Can I join too please? Ideally I'd like to lose 7lbs to take me into the next stone bracket but I'd be happy with 5!
I'm gluten intolerant (hence username) and since cutting it out of my diet I've struggled, especially with snacking which I was never especially bothered for. Think it's just a habit I got into when I was a bit lost with main meals.
I'm not sure what my plan is yet Shock

neverendinglauaundry · 08/11/2022 07:39

@Restlessinthenorth Ah! I was assuming some sort of boot camp. I'm more of a gentle yoga & swimming sort of girl :-)
Weighed in today at 13stone 12, that's down 4lb from Saturday, so even though I know there's a bit of random fluctuation and loosing water weight I feel encouraged.

Whiskers4 · 08/11/2022 08:01

Not calorie counting, but have made a few adjustments each day. At moment, doesn't feel enough as my tummy feels full and bloated this morning. I don't mind losing slowly, but might have to do more.

I'm doing an exercise class today and should get a decent amount of steps tomorrow.

ifonly4 · 08/11/2022 10:59

neverendinglauaundry - that's brilliant news and a really good start.

GFLoser and hayshay You're more than welcome.

Marmut you did so well yesterday.

Whiskers4 - keep at it. Whatever you're doing is going to help even if it takes a bit longer. Not feeling the benefit here either, but it's great there's so many of us to check in with and follow.

OP posts:
MuthaHubbard · 08/11/2022 11:04

Happy with yesterday's food so hopefully repeating that today.
It does take a little time to feel the benefit - I'm also still feeling a bit bloaty/naff but know that in a few days that will get better.
Have a call with GP tomorrow re perimeno so hoping to get in for a blood test. And then appointment with musculoskeletal clinic on 1st Dec. Will be a professional appointment attender soon!

hayshay · 08/11/2022 18:07

Just checking in, end of day 1 for me.
Managed 14000 steps as decided to brave the rain and walk to work.
Food choices haven't been amazing but I have only eaten at mealtimes and not snacked so happy with that. Will try to make healthier choices tomorrow.
Hope everyone has had a good day 🙂

Marmut · 08/11/2022 18:45

@ifonly4 Thanks!
@hayshay 14 k steps are a lot! Agree with you about snacking, it is such a challenge.
Day 4 for me, managed to run 5.5 miles first thing in the morning and sticked to 1250 kkal. Although, I really missed eating crisps terribly, especially when I needed something to help me focusing on my work.
DH suggested to eat out this weekend as it is my birthday. I had to say no as I am sure I will cave in and ended up undoing a whole week's worth of calories deficit 😥

SameToo · 08/11/2022 19:15

Can I join please? A couple of years ago I was at my goal weight and looking good. Then had 2 years of work stress and gained 2 stone 😭 7lbs by Xmas would be a great start for me. Or any loss! I’ve really struggled to stick to calories and exercise. Need someone to hold me accountable! This could be it.

neverendinglauaundry · 08/11/2022 19:59

Hi all,
Well done on resisting the crisps @Marmut
Avoiding snacking is really key for me too @hayshay - a good habit to keep up and a really good start I think. My dad lost loads of weight just doing that.
I feel pretty pleased with day 4:
B. Sausage and mushroom sandwich with ketchup & 2 white coffees (550)
L. 2 egg veggie ommlette (200)
D. Chicken & veggie curry with wholegrain rice (450)
13000 steps
I'll probably have a little something for pudding in a bit

thenewaveragebear1983 · 08/11/2022 20:10

Weird day for me today. Up at 5.30 to go to the gym at 6, then ran with my friend at 8.30- I do try not to double up like that but I will struggle to get to classes this week and therefore did 2 today but won’t workout tomorrow or Thursday. Then finished my floor, 2 coats of ronseal, lugged all the furniture back, kids football…. 17k steps in total.

my food was ok except for I ate a few rounds of toast at 4 as my dinner was/will be late tonight (still waiting for dh to plate up!) but that will have tipped me over my calories allowed but not over my total daily cals, so still a small deficit. My dinner itself will be relatively low calorie- a gousto fish portion and a baked tomato, garlic and balsamic in a sort of traybake with herbs (to use up leftover tomatoes)

tomorrow I am meeting my friend for lunch at a Caribbean garden centre, then going to see Kevin bridges with dh, which will mean 2 meals out, plus at least a few glasses of wine, and therefore I think already that tomorrow is a write off!

ifonly4 · 09/11/2022 11:07

MuthaHubbard hope your appointments go well.

SameToo Welcome.

thenewaveragebear1983 Yes, a deficit is still positive, if only a small amount!

We have wraps and eggs to use up here in next day or so, which will be down to me. One day I could do an egg salad wrap, but wondering if a fried egg (minimal oil) and mushrooms will work. No idea about tea yet - might cheat and do a spicy bean burger with small portion rice, peas and sweetcorn.

I've been out for a walk this morning in the sun. Usually walk to work and it's constantly rushing around and lifting tables, chairs so that'll be my mini workout for the day!

OP posts:
Marmut · 09/11/2022 17:54

@ifonly4 Spicy bean burger sounds nice. I don't think it is calorific though.

Day 5 today. Walked to and back from work, about 19 k steps in total. Went for lunch with colleagues and had pastrami baguette. Dinner was homemade salmon fish cakes and flatbread. Hopefully it is still within 1250 kkal.

neverendinglauaundry · 09/11/2022 18:26

Hi all,
Sounds like everyone is doing well.
@ifonly4 you could always hard boil the eggs if there are a lot of them, nice with a bit of salt to add protein to breakfast and only 70 calories.
I've been really hungry today and hurt my back a bit. I still managed 10,000 steps but only because I had to walk back from town!
I had a lovely swim in a local outdoor pool for about 40 minutes so exercise wise I've been pretty good for me.
B. Yogurt & a spoon of granola 2 white coffees (170)
2nd B. Cheese & onion ommlette with salad (450?)
L. Vegan Aloo tikka wrap (500?)
D. Homemade Bolognese small portion (450)

Overall I think I'll be over my calories by about 1-300 and I could totally keep eating. I'm gonna stick with it though as I know I'll feel so much better when I'm lighter.

hayshay · 09/11/2022 18:30

Evening everyone, sounds like everyone is doing well.
Day 2 for me today and a day off work so fewer steps - just aboit made 10k so still not bad. Did C25K wk 3 - first time in weeks so I plumped for a slightly easier week. My legs are very wobbly now 😅
