Would anyone like to join me in losing just a few pounds?

Despite cutting back on biscuits and alcohol and keeping active, I've put on 8lbs due to the menopause - most of it feels like it's around my middle and I'm not feeling good about it.

I enjoy walking, so am going to try and to a bit more on top of my usual exercise, also some toning exercises for my stomach/core. Not willing to starve myself, so going to try and make better choices/have slightly smaller portions.

@GFLoser i have various recordings from a company called Clear minds, I originally found them on Facebook and was a little skeptical, but I really like them. They send the hypnosis as a file that you just download and listen to through your phone, you pay once and keep the file (eg no subscription or anything) and I think they are around £12.50 per recording. Definitely worth a try.

Had a really good day today. I ended on 1350 cals, with 200 spare, plus I went to the gym and did a 5km run so I banked a few exercise calories as well. I wouldn’t normally double up on the workouts but tomorrow I won’t get one so it will balance out.
my food has been really good, very Mediterranean- cheese, olives, Greek yogurt, chicken, roasted veg… all yummy. I didn’t eat til around 11.30 and it really does help me to curb my appetite even if I do eat the same calories, it seems to help me control myself (I think it’s probably insulin related)

tomorrow- going to meet a headteacher about some admin temping, which I am looking forward to as it will get me a few days a week and a bit of money coming in while I wait for the right thing to come up. Plus it will get me out of the house and away from the fridge!
then in the afternoon I am dressing as an elf and joining Santa Claus to deliver some chocolate to the children at my sons school with the pta. Will be cold but fun! Not sure exactly what my food will be but I really enjoyed my cheese and olive platter today so will prob do that for lunch again. And for dinner I have some fish and some gnocchi and pesto, so will do something with that.

Sounds like everyone is having a positive start to the week 😃
I gained 2 pounds over the weekend, but weighing today I've lost one of them.
Monday's I have art class after work til 8 and that normally throws me off, but yesterday I managed to stay on track even though we all went for a drink after. I think staying off alcohol will be key for me over the festive period.

ifonly4 · 13/12/2022 20:17

thenewaveragebear1983 ·Good news over some potential work and you had a good day yesterday. I love the bit about being an elf!

neverendinglauaundry Sounds like me the other week when I put on and then lost again.

After the weekend having a good couple of days foodwise. Last exercise class until 7 January though. I'll really need those steep walks across the local hills which DH has planned for me over Xmas.

Late night tonight, so hopefully I don't get the munches. DD's plane home took off later, then another plane had to take their stand at airport due to emergency. She'll be getting a coach 3.5 hours later - not looking forward to going out as our area was worst affected by snow on Sunday and we're out of town.

How's everyone doing? Feel like it's going to get harder with xmas coming. There's biscuits and chocolates at work - have only had biscuits though. Did last of xmas shopping after work yesterday and needed a drink and cake for energy! Still trying to be good where I can though.

@ifonly4 I’m ticking along. I seem to alternate good days and bad days to be honest. I’m not really trying that hard now, I’ve not fully given up but also not really depriving myself either. I dread to think what the scales will say but I’m not going to find out yet 😂
Ds10 and I have been full of cold today and yesterday with tickly coughs and generally feeling under the weather. Dh away tonight as well, so I have both ds’s to myself. I’m going to eat just a light dinner I think to make up for a few days of eating not the best. I always find my appetite ramps up when I am spoiling for a virus, and I am also due on in 2 days so it’s a tricky time, although there isn’t much in the way of Christmas goodies in the house as I have resisted buying them. We are away for the Christmas break so I haven’t stocked up like I would normally. We do have an extraordinary amount of wine in thought as we redeemed our wine club savings pot, although I don’t really fancy a drink tonight. I actually am looking forward to a hot bath and getting to bed early.

Whiskers4 · 16/12/2022 08:22

I've lost another pound this week, so a total of 5lbs. Just trying to eat smaller portions and make the odd better choice, which I'll do my best to incorporate into Xmas.

Haven't done much exercise this week. Often go out for an early morning walk, but it's still -9c here apparently and that doesn't appeal.

ifonly4 · 16/12/2022 14:46

thenewaveragebear1983 Even if you're having good and bad days, the good days are still worth doing when you can as they'll still going to help, either in terms of keeping a lid on weight gain, staying where you are or reducing. Hope you avoid the cold!. Snap, DH also belongs to a wine club and we had a stash delivered this week - that used some energy as I couldn't lift to bring in house, so had to bring it in piecemeal. We have a wine box (similar to last year) that got drunk very quickly once we started on it!

Whiskers4 Well done, whatever you're doing, it's obviously working for you.

I weighed myself this morning, I've lost 1.5lbs this week - I wasn't expecting that so really please as I've lost 6.5lbs, ideally I like to lose another 2.5lbs. Really don't want to undo the good work over xmas though.

Well done whiskers & if only!
I'm off for the holidays now and haven't been calorie counting. There's also been quite a bit of chocolate around which is my weakness (or one of them anyway).
My aim for tomorrow is to do a yoga video in the morning and go for a decent walk.

ifonly4 · 20/12/2022 10:42

neverendinglauaundry Well after my good news on Saturday, I've slipped a bit in my efforts - like you say Xmas temptations are around. I am still trying to be careful when I can and only had a small piece of cheese at DBIL's at weekend. Nice time of year to get out for a walk (when it's not raining!).

OP posts:
ifonly4 · 26/12/2022 11:12

Hope you're all having a good xmas. Had xmas meal, alcohol and buffet tea yesterday so obviously consumed a lot of calories but didn't do too bad in terms of portions sizes.

Have family coming for lunch today, DD has already made a couple of dips so they'll be fatel, then she's going pitta bread, rice and veggie chilli - thinking the veggie chilli won't be too bad and will have pitta instead of rice (not really fussed about rice anyway).

We’ve had a lovely Christmas thank you @ifonly4 , I have paid zero heed to any form of self control though and dread the thought of the scales. We have walked (a little) and went to the sea today to charge about on the sand for a bit, but it will barely scratch the surface….

I am quite looking forward to returning home tomorrow and having a few days off drinking and gluttony before we do our 2 family events (one thurs, one NYE) and then I am truly looking forward to my January health kick. The cottage we are staying in has a swanky bathroom wetroom with a full length mirror so from the shower I am greeted with a full length view of my body, which to be honest made me feel aghast at exactly how much weight I have gained this year, but more noticeably, how untoned and unhealthy I look (which doesn’t actually seem fair considering I exercise hard, at least 5 times a week 🤷‍♀️)

I hope you have all had a lovely Christmas whatever you have been up to!

ifonly4 · 30/12/2022 17:16

Hope you all had a good xmas. Anyone dared jump on the scales? I haven't - luckily jeans still feeling a bit looser. I think I'll weigh on 3rd as DH back to work properly then and I'll be more in control of things.

OP posts:
thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/12/2022 18:26

@ifonly4 I did , it was horrific! So bad actually that in a way it’s reassuring because it cannot possibly be actual weight gain/fat- I ate a lot but not that much! Can’t wait to start getting healthy. I’m really looking forward to it. We have our last family event tomorrow, a meal out, bowling and then at in-laws to see the new year in. Then from Sunday I am ON IT

neverendinglauaundry · 30/12/2022 21:43

Hello! I'm away from home so can't weigh. No dieting has happened for some time. I'm hoping that I'm not up on my starting weight. Back on it on the 3rd.

GFLoser · 02/01/2023 18:11

Hi everyone, glad to see you've come back after the festivities! I haven't dared weigh yet- you're brave @thenewaveragebear1983- but as you say it can't be a true gain. Hopefully a week or so on it properly and you'll see the actual damage (and hopefully it won't be too bad).
I haven't done that badly with food, I don't think, but I've drunk an awful lot more than I usually would, even at Christmas. There's still so much chocolate around and I'm not usually bothered by it but seem to have settled into an evening routine of TV, heated throw and "treats" a whole chocolate orange that I can see is going to be difficult to break.
I've also accidentally glutened a couple of times and feel approx 6m preg with the bloating.
Did my food shopping today and stocked up on healthy stuff, and got a bit of a meal plan in my head. Happy new year!

neverendinglauaundry · 02/01/2023 19:19

Hello,
Weigh in and back on it tomorrow for me. Today was traveling so no exercise and service station food. The plan tomorrow is 1500 calories or less and at least 10,000 steps. I'll be having a day out walking with a mate so I'll bring a healthy snack or two and buy a hot drink in a cafe. I'm nervous to weigh. Will pop back in the morning with the weight eek.

ifonly4 · 02/01/2023 19:56

I decided to weigh today, have put on 3lbs but am less than when I started. My work trousers for job no. 1 still feel like they've got a little room, rather than being really tight, so there is a positive or two.

DH off today - we did have a good walk but ended up in pub at lunchtime and then indian ready meals, naan, samosas and wine tonight, so not good.

Back to my second job on Thurs, which hopefully will get me back in routine.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 02/01/2023 20:06

Only 3lbs on is amazing over Christmas, and some of that will be water retention which will just drop off once we resume normality. Well done @ifonly4

neverendinglauaundry · 03/01/2023 08:09

Hi all,
Yeah, I think that's good too @ifonly4 . I'm similar 2 lbs up on just before Xmas, but 4lbs up on my lowest. I'm now 13 stone 12. I really want to loose 12 lbs this year and keep it off.
As I went on eating loads yesterday I'm not hungry this morning so will have coffee and a banana & aim for sensible low cal lunch. I've got used to eating loads so expecting to find it hard.

neverendinglauaundry · 03/01/2023 18:50

B. Banana, 2 coffees
L. Half a pizza, salad
D. Salmon, avocado salad, spoon of hummus
S. Slice of fruit cake, tea.

neverendinglauaundry · 03/01/2023 18:51

Posted too soon - think I've done ok. All nice food and 15,000 steps too

neverendinglauaundry · 04/01/2023 17:51

Hi @thenewaveragebear1983 & @ifonly4 how are things going in this depressing month? Are you both back into routine yet? My kids go back tomorrow so things will settle down then. Today I've stuck to just under 1500 calories, I'm a bit under on steps though

neverendinglauaundry · 04/01/2023 18:25

Food today (for accountability)
B. Avocado on toast
L. Hummus and salad sandwich
D. Chicken tarragon & spring greens pasta
S. Apple and peanut butter

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/01/2023 18:53

@neverendinglauaundry i feel so much better just after 3 days eating healthier and not drinking. I had a spring in my step today. I’m not counting calories this month as I am doing whole30, so following the rather strict rules of that instead (no dairy, no grains, no sugar, no alcohol, and virtually no preservatives/additives etc). I expected to have a horrible detox but actually I feel good.

today I had a banana ,
a baked potato with mackerel and homemade aioli and salad,
and chicken thighs with peppers, asparagus and mushrooms roasted and tossed with lemon juice and basil, and roasted new potatoes.
I’ll have a grapefruit later and I had some walnuts and raisins earlier.
I went to the gym and did a 6km run.
