Lose +/- 7lbs with me

Would anyone like to join me in losing just a few pounds?

Despite cutting back on biscuits and alcohol and keeping active, I've put on 8lbs due to the menopause - most of it feels like it's around my middle and I'm not feeling good about it.

I enjoy walking, so am going to try and to a bit more on top of my usual exercise, also some toning exercises for my stomach/core. Not willing to starve myself, so going to try and make better choices/have slightly smaller portions.

I'd like to join please! I've 7-10lbs to lose, 14lb would be amazing.

I'm on day 3 and my strategy so far has been a double protein shake for lunch, regular dinner and a few small healthy snacks. I've lost weight this way before so I know it can be done :)

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/01/2023 20:21

I’ve had an awful week (diet wise) on the back of a not brilliant week last week. So…. Anticipating a gain. I probably won’t weigh myself, other than for drawing a line purposes.

I am absolutely exhausted. Craving sugar like anything, proper ‘raid the kids biscuits’ kind of craving, stop at the petrol station for chocolate kind of craving. That’s usually not my style, I feel really out of control this week. Weekend is looming and, since we bailed on dry January last weekend, we will be drinking tomorrow and Saturday my sil and bil are coming round so definitely will drink them too. I need to make sure my food is good and up to scratch.

it’s weird, I’ve fond everything right, my means have been excellent. But then after my meals I have just eaten loads of crap. 🤷‍♀️

in my defence: I’m bloody exhausted, 3 6am workouts this week. I’m on my 12th day of my period (deffo something weird going on there, I’m normally 3 ridiculously heavy days). I have felt tired every morning when waking up. So definitely starting on the wrong foot.

who knows? I need to plan my meals for Saturday onwards and not buy any rubbish in the first place and hopefully get my head back in gear.

hope everyone else is doing better than me!

neverendinglauaundry · 27/01/2023 07:06

I'm at a bit of a low eb with dieting too @thenewaveragebear1983 . Perhaps you need iron if you've been having such a long period? Maybe a nice steak? Or switch to dark chocolate if you'll likely have it anyway.
This week I've gained 0.2 lbs 🤷‍♀️. I'm feeling really bloated and weird and wondering what to do in the long term. So far I've lost 9lbs and I really need to keep them off & ideally loose another 7. I'm not sure whether to really go for it and try to get that off in a month or go really slow (not sure how) and aim to be just slightly under maintenance for the really long term.

ifonly4 · 27/01/2023 12:00

Spirini Yes, you're more than welcome.

Going away soon. They'll be plenty of walking and swimming, but I suspect lots of eating and drinking - will jsut have to do what I can when I can> I was hoping to lose a bit more before going away but been so focussed this week - I've done well in the day but not in the evenings!

OP posts:
neverendinglauaundry · 29/01/2023 13:06

How's it going @Spirini ? Hope everyone is doing well. I've become really hacked off with dieting, and was getting into bad dieting habits, lots of shit low cal snacks and then breaking at the end of the day, so am going to pause now for a while.
I'm just going to have 3 good meals a day, aim for about 50% fruit & veg and otherwise just chill out about it. I might post to keep accountability for my modest goals and I'll weigh every so often so I notice if things are getting out of hand

thenewaveragebear1983 · 29/01/2023 19:14

i feel a bit diet fatigued too @neverendinglauaundry . Last week was really awful, I just ate garbage. My period lasted a full 14 days, I have no idea at all why or what could have caused that. On Friday I was desperately tired. Feel a lot better today. I ran a quick 5km yesterday and today ran a steady 14km with my friend, and actually felt good so obviously feeling a bit better.

i Weighed in at 161.5, which is a total loss in January of 7.5lbs, so even though I’ve bounced around my overall loss is good. I need to stop beating myself up about it.

my meals are all planned, I’ve booked my workouts and I have prepped some jacket potatoes for lunches so I have something to grab that is hot and filling. Roasted a chicken for protein snacks. I’m really going to focus this week on drinking my water, and not eating unless I’m actually hungry to get out of the habit of just mindlessly eating. This time next week I’d like to be under 160 again.

Ohyesthankyouglitter · 30/01/2023 09:03

Morning all, I'm joining you @neverendinglauaundry and @thenewaveragebear1983 in diet fatigue - only difference is that I've only been at it for a couple weeks so it's a bit early to stop 😂

unfortunately we had another medical emergency this week and so things have been derailed a bit. I won't have lost any weight, but hopeful that I'm still heading in the right direction.

Am going to go drink some water!!

Spirini · 30/01/2023 12:24

@neverendinglauaundry that sounds like a very realistic and manageable plan. My plan is diet Monday-Friday, normal on the weekends, but not to gorge.

With all the running@thenewaveragebear1983 the weight will be falling off you! I really need to get my exercise in gear but I just can't find the time, life is so busy at the moment.

Official weigh in day for me is Fridays but I'm going to try to weigh every day to keep myself accountable, I find when I'm weighing, I'm gaining

neverendinglauaundry · 30/01/2023 20:39

@thenewaveragebear1983 7.5 lbs in under a month is bloody marvelous! Sorry to hear about your period. I often have ones that go on for 10-12 days and it takes it out of you. Loads of iron rich food and a couple of days taking it easy is my advice & go to the docs if it happens a lot.
@Ohyesthankyouglitter sorry about your emergency - I hope it turned out ok in the end.
I'm managing to stick to my no snacks and plenty of veg rule and am enjoying it - seems to have got me out of a rut.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 01/02/2023 19:00

How is everyone doing?

I have had an ok week so far but then today I took my son out for lunch at Prezzo with our Tesco vouchers as his school was on strike. 1800 calories- calamari which was delicious, and a chicken in mushrooms sauce which was average. No dessert though. I probably won’t eat dinner although I might have some fruit later.

I’m finding it hard to get through the days really. Boredom eating (my temp job is sooooooo boring and there’s always chocolate there and I’m alone in the office and it just seems to happen, although I am counting it in my calories)

i Will keep on going though…. Made my lunch for tomorrow (chicken salad) and I froze pots of veg soup so I will take one of those as well.

gym class tomorrow, then hopefully a short run Saturday morning. I’d really like to run a long distance on Sunday, I was going to do a local half marathon but I haven’t signed up, however I might just go out by myself and do the distance. I did a lot last year but haven’t done one since June, I feel like it might get my mojo back up.

I’m not really feeling like weighing myself this week, I didn’t do my mid week check in today, will weigh Saturday or Sunday just to see.

ifonly4 · 01/02/2023 20:04

I eat loads over the weekend as we were away. On the plus side we went in the pool every day and got lost on two of our walks meaning they took twice as long as planned - the last one we were late getting back to car (had to pay for parking) and DH literally had me running the last hour to keep up with him.

Not been eating that healthily since our return, but haven't eaten in excess. Feel like I'm about the same as before we went away - will weigh in tomorrow.

Since hitting my original 7lb target, I've certainly taken my foot off the peddle. Main thing is not to put anything permanently back on, but I'd still like to lose another 2-3lbs

OP posts:
neverendinglauaundry · 03/02/2023 07:22

Hi all,
I've done a bit rubbish the past few days if I'm honest (even given that all I'm trying to do is eat 3 balanced meals and no snacks) but will be off to the swimming baths today and have had a good breakfast. I'll weigh tomorrow morning, but I'm expecting a gain.
At least I've done a lot of walking

Spirini · 03/02/2023 13:18

I'm up half a pound, despite being really disciplined Monday-Friday. If this continues, I'm going to have to accept that I need to diet 7 days a week.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 03/02/2023 16:57

I’ve had a hideous few days and have eaten ALL the crap. I don’t know what’s got into me, I think I’m just so incredibly tired and my food/ means/ snacks etc are all out of synch, I’m going to sit this evening and plan a good menu for the week ahead.

a friend and I were lamenting, we’ve both done different health plans since Jan, high protein/aiming for low carb, fallen off the wagon…. A friend of ours has done a conventional low fat diet, including lots of treats like skinny whip bars and options sachets… she’s lost 11lb. So friend 1 and I are going to try this this week, it’s not a diet i follow normally, but my other way just isn’t working. I’m going to calorie count strictly but not ban any foods. Just for a week to see what happens

neverendinglauaundry · 06/02/2023 06:59

There must have been something in the air that was working against us last week! I'm feeling a bit better and feel like I've had a good weekend. Lots of exercise, no booze and I've kept a lid on the snacking.
I have forgotten to weigh at the right time (before breakfast) but weighing later in the day it looks like I've put on a couple of pounds.

neverendinglauaundry · 06/02/2023 07:02

Good luck with the low fat thing @thenewaveragebear1983 I've lost weight doing that sort of thing in the past and a change is as good as a rest, as they say.
@Spirini - half a pound is not much compared to the weight you've lost. I gain and loose about 3lbs over 24hrs, so it may just have been that sort of thing

ifonly4 · 06/02/2023 14:48

thenewaveragebear1983 It'll be interesting to know how you get on with the new diet. Good to have a friend to try it with, so you can chat about your experience.

Spirini So frustrating when you've done well to find out you've put on a little bit. Either way your efforts will eventually pay off, even if you end up having treat days or off days.

I weighed on Thursday to find I'd lost 1lb, making it 8lbs. Unfortunately since then I've had latte and cake out, more calorie laden meals etc - weighed this morning to find I'd put on 2lbs and unfortunately more latte and cake since then!! Trying to run freezer down, but there's a lot of lunch things that in reality only I will eat - today was cheese and onion pastry rolls. On the plus side, just a kiwi for breakfast and no biscuit with my tea this afternoon. Might make a veg chilli later and just have with pitta bread (from freezer!) or something out of freezer with fresh veggies.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 06/02/2023 21:30

I’ve had an ok day today, I have had around 1500 calories
B- overnight oats and fruit
L- couscous, salad, 2 boiled eggs, light mayo, fruit, skinny whip bar
D- duck breast, mash potato, broccoli, cranberry sauce, halo top ice cream.

tomorrow I’ve got oats again, I’ve made a big box of carrot sticks and houmous for lunch, and dinner will be sausage sandwich as it’s football night. Probably a few snacks, I have allowed for 1200 for meals and around 300 for snacks.

Gym at 6am.

Whiskers4 · 08/02/2023 08:08

Just checking in. I haven't really been on it diet wise, but have still managed to keep stable with my original 4lb loss. Would really like to get another 3-4lbs off, so doing my best to get back to eating better and smaller portions. Doing OK in the day, but not so well in evening.

Overall, you're all doing so well.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 08/02/2023 19:34

I had a terrible day yesterday. A full on sugar fest. This morning I woke up feeling really unwell, I did run with my friend but felt awful, called in sick and slept for 3 hours. Feeling a bit better this evening. I wonder if that, combined with being due on in 4 days, contributed to my uncontrollable eating yesterday?

anyway, better day today. 1700 ish cals. It’s still not especially low calorie to be honest, I find it very hard to get my calories anywhere near low enough to lose weight (certainly not at any pace) unless I actively strip meals out of my diet. But at least I’m under tdee and that’s considerably better than yesterday!

my food is planned for tomorrow, I may stay off work again depending how I feel in the morning. I just need to actually weigh my portions rather than guess, and actually stick to the plan 🤦‍♀️

Spirini · 09/02/2023 13:38

Checking in.

This week has been so-so for me. Some days good, other days I ended up bingeing in shite in the evening because I was still hungry after my dinner. I weighed this morning and no change on last week but I'm hoping if I stay below my calories for today I might see a drop tomorrow. Fingers crossed!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 09/02/2023 19:26

1650 cals today, but I could easily go into the kitchen and snack on loads of junk, I’m really working hard to restrain myself! Stayed off work again today, slept all morning, but feel much better this afternoon. Hopefully whatever it was has passed. My food has been good today, had leftover chilli for lunch and dinner I had soup and a piece of chicken to stay within my cals.

I am determined NOT to drink this weekend. I do say that a lot and often don’t do it, but I really need to get a good weekend under my belt and drinking just throws that off totally. I feel so much better when I don’t drink. I eat better, and sleep better.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 10/02/2023 07:37

Weighed in at 161.4lbs. Total loss this year 7.5lbs. I count that as a lucky maintain this week and it’s the kick up the bum I need really as I was expecting/dreading a 3-4lb gain given the week I’ve had. My average of 1lb a week is still within grasp, but only just. This week needs to be a good one!

neverendinglauaundry · 13/02/2023 08:30

Hello!
That's really good @thenewaveragebear1983 the hunger must have been for a reason!
I weighed in this morning and I've lost another pound. That's 9 since the beginning of November, but only one over the past two weeks.
I think it's quite encouraging for my long term strategy of no snacking, lots of veg on the food front and swimming+ over 10,000 steps a day for exercise. I'm going to keep sticking to that and will keep a eye on my weight. It would be great to keep loosing 2lb a month without doing loads of calorie counting and obsessing over it.
Is it you @thenewaveragebear1983 who has a new temp job? Hope it's going well. I remember temping well. Boredom snacking was a temptation and I ended up getting into drinking loads of different types of herbal tea as a distraction tactic.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 13/02/2023 12:08

@neverendinglauaundry yes I’m temping, I’ve done 5 weeks here and finish on Friday, then start my new permanent role on 6th March! It’s soooooo boring. I think because there’s no ownership of what I do. It’s filled a gap for me though. I do find I slump mid afternoon though and there’s always chocolates or something here, temptation gets the better of me
