☀️THE SUMMER COUNTDOWN THREAD ☀️

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself in time for a Sizzling Summer!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

I am in! Need to get my act together.

Thank you for the new thread @TheRealHousewife.

I got from 14 stone to 10.8 then got glandular fever and broke my elbow so spent ten weeks in bed then had another few weeks without being able to run and yesterday I was 11 stone 12.4. So not good.

I am doing intermittent fasting and do not succeed every day. I do more than I fail on but it is what makes a real difference to weight coming off. I am back running and doing good times but only doing just over 5km when I used to regularly run 10km.

I have had a very stressful few weeks but I can't blame that. Need to get my act together. Got a family party in July and last time we were all together I was at my heaviest so I want to be at least down tom11 stone. Is that doable???

HouseofHolbein · 28/04/2022 08:48

I’m in! Need to quit the chocolate and crisps to lose my last half stone 😊

think I’ve got to goal twice since I started these threads 😂😂 need to work on staying there!

Crazzzycat · 28/04/2022 09:31

Checking in on the new thread! I appreciate you adding the word maintain to the description @TheRealHousewife, because that’s exactly what I intend to do in May.

After losing more than 4 stone so far, I plan to focus on “good habits”. As much as I am a fan of calorie counting, it has had one negative side effect for me. I’ve been eating way more processed snacks than I’d like just because, unlike less processed food, these all tend to come in handy, perfectly portioned 100 calorie packets. I rarely stop at one though, so I think it’s time to stop those altogether. No more crisps, biscuits and only a reasonable amount of chocolate.

I also aim to minimise sugar full stop. I don’t eat that much of it (as long as I don’t snack), but have for example swapped my fruit flavoured yoghurt for a plain one. Small changes all add up 😊

As always, there will be lots of exercise. I’m currently 2 weeks into a 12 week rowing programme, which promises a rapid increase in the intensity of the workouts...it’s already pretty full on, so I look forward to that with slight trepidation 😂

Have a good month everyone!

TheRealHousewife · 28/04/2022 10:21

You're all very welcome!

@Crazzzycat earlier threads included ‘Maintaining’ (and im maintaining myself) but somehow it got missed off as time went by. You have done fantastically well to date … 4 stone 😯👍👏⭐️🎖. You’ve been consistent with healthy eating and diligent with with exercise! What you are doing really works for you and Well Done!

@HouseofHolbein Ive been to goal too but didn’t stay long 🤷‍♀️. My cals went up a bit but they needed too as losing hair. I’m resigning to the fact my body has its own idea what goal looks like 😅. I’ll be concentrating on maintaining for the foreseeable.

@SunshineCake Considering what you’ve had on your plate you are doing fantastically well! You’re still over 2stone down and remain actively trying to eat healthy. You’re still the LOSE IT! Threads shinning star ⭐️ ❤️

I'm in and will weigh in on the 3rd May - I have not weighed for a bit as DD1 came home from uni on 9th April and DD2 is in full blown A Level/mocks/final prep mode and Easter was soooooo lovely weather wise so we just barbequed and sat and ate and had fun in the downtimes and I have taken my eye off the ball - HUGELY! I;m not sorry but may be when I get on the scales in a week 😛

SanFranBear · 28/04/2022 12:04

Will finish my April journey on the last thread but marking my place nice and early to get ready to stay positive in May.

I'm hoping to basically continue with what I've been doing - calorie counting with a couple of lower calorie days each week (trying not to go over about 800 calories) along side increased activity. I live in a beautiful part of the world so will keep heading out for walks and hikes - helping my mental health hugely too.

Here's to another month of successes and non-scale victories... we have all totally got this!

For anyone reading and thinking 'should I?'.. you most definitely should. This is such a welcoming, friendly thread full of support, friendship and fabulous tips! Definitely helps keep me accountable but also lifts me up when things aren't doing so great!!

ginsparkles · 28/04/2022 12:26

I'm in! Ended last month much better than I began it, so feeling focussed for a good May.

Todays plan is a little squiffy,

Ham and pickle sandwich on seeded bread (which I have discovered agrees with me more than other breads) with chick pea crisps.
Tonight I am at a meeting so won't have time for food, and there's cake at the meeting. So I suspect dinner will be cake !!

Have fruit and yogurt to snack on before hand to take the edge off.

milkfromthesleepycow · 28/04/2022 12:41

Still following and will try to post more often this month!

SW 14st 4
CW 12st 1

Continuing with avoiding sugar and processed foods, trying to eat as many vegetables as possible and keeping protein intake up.
Exercise will be swimming and yoga for a couple of weeks then back into weights.

May goal to get below my lightest weight since first pregnancy, 11st 9 (achieved in between DC1 and DC2)

Feeling positive today and hoping the feeling continues!

ImALittlePea · 28/04/2022 14:25

Thanks for the new thread @TheRealHousewife

Just placemarking for now. Need to think about my goals and tactics for the month ahead as April has been a bit of a slippery (but mostly enjoyable) slope 🙈

BellyDancer124 · 28/04/2022 22:00

Just checking in (testing if I can post as I haven't been able to since the website updateD Confused Weigh day for me tomorrow!

Thank you for the new thread OP Smile

TheRealHousewife · 29/04/2022 09:27

Good Morning Everyone

@BellyDancer124 @ImALittlePea @milkfromthesleepycow @ginsparkles @SanFranBear @126orbust You are all welcome!

I often plan a weeks worth of menus/meals at a time. For May I’m going to attempt doing a full month. I like to cook multiple portions at a time and freeze some for the following weeks. I don’t have much waste but feel planning ahead will help reduce waste further as well as take the pressure off deciding what to shop & prepare for. Time to get the cook book out 😬

SunshineCake · 29/04/2022 10:37

Thank you @TheRealHousewife DH has persuaded me to have some porridge and I enjoyed it though it was hard to eat. I'm pleased it hadn't set off the munchies. Dh will go to the shop later to get me some soft food and I am having a day in bed. We were due to go to the in-laws for lunch tomorrow so everyone else will go and I will stay at home. I'm feeling wiped after the appointment.

@126orbust as long as you enjoyed the time and food then any increase is worth it !

BellyDancer124 · 29/04/2022 12:26

Hi all, happy Friday!

2lb down this week, I’m over the moon 😀that means I’m 6lb down in six weeks so hopefully I will continue a steady loss. This thread is definitely helping, I don’t post a lot but love reading everyone’s posts for motivation and support, so thank you!

hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Morred · 29/04/2022 16:13

Hi, can I join? I've got a lot to lose and I am doing calorie counting with MyFitnessPal and trying to up activity levels with a couple of (short, slow!) runs a week and trying some of the weights machines in the gym.

CW: 94.8kg
Current goal: 90kg

I haven't got an absolute final goal. I would need to get down to abotut 65kg be comfortably within my healthy BMI category. I haven't weighed that since I was about 11, so I will keep evaluating as - hopefully - I lose. I definitely want to be lighter but I suspect I have 'heavy bones' (very scientific 😀).

TheRealHousewife · 29/04/2022 16:17

You’re very welcome @SunshineCake ❤️

@BellyDancer124 Great result, we’ll done! 👍👏⭐️

@Morred a warm welcome to the thread. That’s a sensible 1st Goal and it will motivate you to carry on once you’ve reached it. Your plan is doable and realistic. Adding in weighted exercises will help you build/maintain muscle tone, which in itself helps to keep the metabolism ticking over. You’ve got this!

NoviceNetwork · 29/04/2022 17:31

Just saw this thread, thought it may be a sign given my news today and so would love to jump in and join!

Height: 5 ft 7
SW: 19 stone 3 pounds Blush

Weighed myself for the first time in years after getting some blood results back today. I've always been obese, from a toddler to now (35). However, my blood pressure was always low and my blood test results always came back great, very low cholesterol etc. so I kind of... ignored it. I compensated for the weight with making a huge effort with hair/makeup/clothes.

I was starting to feel 'off' so went to my gp. After a few tests/scans I was diagnosed with, hidradentis suppurativa (sp?), PCOS and pre diabetes. Blood test results are also awful, very high cholesterol (the bad kind) and I've also given myself fatty liver disease. I don't exercise and have a diet mainly consisting of takeaways and processed junk when dp is not here.

So, have had a pretty huge slap out of my 'oh I'm still healthy' delusion. I'm going to try to cut out the processed food/takeaways and join ridiculously healthy DP with his mainly plant based/whole food meals (which should help the HS too). He also weight lifts, and apparently it is an exercise people who don't really like exercise can get into Grin, so I have joined up to his gym and he will be taking me for a look round on Sunday.

Sorry for the huge post, excited to see and support everyone's story and progress!

Hello, I've NC from MistySkiesAfterRain.

I was doing no junk/Gousto meals and lost 12lb. Shifted another few pounds doing Fast 800. Holiday in just over 25 days.

Wishing everyone a good month!

Echobelly · 29/04/2022 18:53

So I've just started Noom trial. I actually found out at the start that I weigh less than I thought and that going back to the gym and having a lighter, earlier dinner seemed to be having some effect. I don't have that much to lose, half a stone to a stone.

Does anyone know if you can keep using Noom app without subscription? I find calorie counter useful but don't really need the coaching as my actual habits are OK and I don't think I'm overeating most days from comparing to my normal diet - it's just that my metabolism has slowed down now I'm perimenopausal and I'm putting on weight more easily.

I'm not finding it too hard if I eat a light breakfast and lunch, but not sure what to do about restaurants (where I reckon you're hard pressed to find stuff under 500 cals) and a bit sad about lack of treats when out and about.

CrimsonAlligator · 01/05/2022 08:32

Morning all! I’m starting the month on 72.9 kg. I’m feeling really positive about May!

Welcome to all the newbies on this thread. @NoviceNetwork, you must have had such a shock when you got the results from your doctor. At least you have a partner who’s already eating well. That makes such a difference. It’s so much harder to stay away from tempting snacks when you are sharing your life with someone who is constantly chomping chocolate and crisps. You can do this!

Btw, I’ve changed my username from 🐈 to 🐊

CrimsonAlligator · 01/05/2022 08:53

Scrap that! I’m starting May on 72.6, kg, which coincidentally is the lowest number I’ve seen since I started losing weight last year 🥳

Elle200 · 01/05/2022 09:16

Thank you for the thread @TheRealHousewife , what would we do without you?!

I had a few "bad" days in April including a three day binge so I've managed to gain weight overall.

I had a video call with my dietician last week, the first time in over a year. This was the first time I'd spoken with this lady but she was very motivational and explained a few things I didn't know and which will hopefully get my weight moving in the right direction again this month. She suggested I go on a trial called We Sure Can run by Leeds university which is investigating weight loss on women who have/had breast cancer, but they want you to do 12 weeks of meal replacement shakes, which I just don't think i could do, I need to chew!! I'll see if she emails me the details and decide then.

SW: 134kgs
CW: 79.4kgs
TW: 75kgs

I hardly ever post but I do read every day, so thank you to everyone who keeps the thread going, it's a great help.

DFI000 · 01/05/2022 09:17

May - let’s do this!

SW: 13 stone 8

I have been running a few times recently and increased my exercise but really need to work on my eating.

SunshineCake · 01/05/2022 09:28

Welcome @NoviceNetwork and how great to have a DH who is already doing really helpful things and can give you a lot of support.

@MistySkiesAreGone you have done brilliantly. Well done!

Could a compromise be you do the shakes but get your chew fix from celery @Elle200 ? Apparently you burn more calories eating it than what are in it.

I managed to sleep through which has helped but my face is a sight. I have two black eyes as well as a beard of bruises Sad. Thankfully nothing on the calendar for this week and DH is happy doing all the dog walking and shopping. I am going to try the treadmill at a slower pace today as I haven't run since Wednesday. I will weigh myself after for the start of May but I know I ended April heavier than when it started [failure].

Still feeling unnerved about the two women who came to the door yesterday and then looked down the side of the house. No parcel left, no note. I took their car reg so I would know if they come back. Worried it was to do with DD.

Have a good day everyone. Don't forget your water and add an extra vegetable to your meals today. When I can go out again I am going to buy some vegetables I have never cooked with before.

ElderflowerTonic · 01/05/2022 09:30

Can I join you also? I'm 5' 2" and about to hit 11 stone, which is the heaviest I've ever been. I've just been eating really badly recently-toast for breakfast and late night crisps and sandwiches. All the carbs.
My plan for May is to go back to having three healthy meals a day, 16:8. And cut out crisps completely. I think it would really help to have a weekly weigh in and some accountability.

buzzofthebumblebee · 01/05/2022 09:40

Morning all. May will be better. Starting afresh as my maintenance has now officially turned into gain. Am probably about 11 7. So regained 5 lbs of the 2 stone I lost. Focus and willpower needed to get back in control. I can do it. Thanks for new thread @TheRealHousewife
