☀️THE SUMMER COUNTDOWN THREAD ☀️

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself in time for a Sizzling Summer!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

I don't have a button @CrimsonAlligator . I will see if I can borrow DDs scales are hers are pretty new. I hope the difference is a positive one though! I'll be gutted if they say I'm heavier than mine.

ImALittlePea · 03/05/2022 16:25

Thanks @CrimsonAlligator It wasn't nice to wake up to, and I've felt a bit shaken up since. I just don't understand how people can be so destructive for no reason 😥

Benjispruce4 · 03/05/2022 18:02

Hi all.
Breakfast- granary toast and soft boiled egg and black coffee 260cals
Lunch-chicken thigh salad with new potato plus an apple- 300 cals
Green tea and water all day
Dinner- baked salmon fillet with stir-fry veg and egg noodles-550
Kiwi fruit-45 cals
It helps to type this actually and makes me accountable. I’ve been busy at work but never hungry which is better than when I did. 18:6. I haven’t picked at anything at all between meals and I plan to continue that way.
About to go on a long dog walk to get my steps up.

Echobelly · 03/05/2022 18:32

New scales have arrived - they indicate the old ones were about right, but are much easier to read, and go to the half lb level.

Today's OK so far, went back to old work lunch favourite of taboulleh, which has the advantage of being very low cal and filling. Salmon for dinner, so could allow myself a croissant as teatime treat. 😋

Flowers111 · 03/05/2022 18:45

Hi everyone !
Just realized I can @ people and their name comes up 🤣 i couldnt rem the right names when I went to post and didn't want to appear familiar with made up nick names 🤣
so thanks @TheRealHousewife for setting this up !

Well the good news js I got under 12 stone just about 11st 13 - delighted, finally. Next milestone would be 11st 8 I suppose ! Starting to feel fitter and less like a sack of potatoes getting up and down off chairs etc. still not amazing but I seem to have found some stomach muscles finally to help pull my limbs around 🤣

Would anyone like to join me in booze free May ? Starting today - quite late...
I plan to have cups of tea in the evenings and even booze free weekends I need a break badly and it's an easy way to shed lbs fast.
Also need to up my water consumption !

Flowers111 · 03/05/2022 18:46

@Echobelly what scales did you get ?

Puffalicious · 03/05/2022 18:57

Good day all,

Thanks for thr further welcome backs!

Pea that's so awful. These things can really affect you mentally. Take care.

So good to see everyone so positive . It'll keep me going. I definitely see my appetite shrinking and I'm less hungry👍.

Today: Lentil soup lentil curls, seeded ryvita. Babybel X2, low fat yogurt.

Greens soup. Bean salad.

Will sneak in a small piece of chocolate before 7. I'm running...😆

Puffalicious · 03/05/2022 19:25

Oh and yes,OP, a Curly Wurly is 98 calories well spent. I'm reducing sugar but still needing that hit once a day. I'll wean myself off of it! I'm succeeding with bread (my nemesis).

TheRealHousewife · 03/05/2022 19:42

@Flowers111 youre very welcome and well done on getting into the next stone bracket! I’ll join you in Booze Free May but I’m lightweight in that I don’t really drink so it might not count 😬. Great idea though 👍

@Benjispruce4 well done on logging food and sticking to menu 👍👏

So sorry to read of your stressful time @ImALittlePea .

Flowers111 · 03/05/2022 20:03

Super !
Today is a bit of a write off food wise because I had a few last night watching new Ozark with DH. Too excited to say no 🤣
I am ashamed to tell you how many Jaffa cakes I had but I input them into MFP and it's ok I'll just write it off !

Dinner was tagliatelle with black beans and veg sauce (made in slow cooker v nice); lunch fried egg on toast with halloumi sauerkraut and cucumber. I generally skip breakfast apart from coffee which probably saves me a few cals. Might switch to black eventually.
Having a bickie now but it's all good.

SunshineCake · 03/05/2022 20:03

I'll join you @Flowers111 but have to own up to a cheat for the next few days as I'm on antibiotics so not allowed anyway but I'll keep going.

DD won't let me use her scales for reasonable reasons so I might have to get some new ones.

Flowers111 · 03/05/2022 20:05

My BMI is 29.2 even at new lower weight. Slightly shocked. 🫣

Flowers111 · 03/05/2022 20:07

Great ! @SunshineCake
I think sometimes when I give up wine it's the sugar I miss so I might have lemonade later.

SanFranBear · 03/05/2022 20:19

I'm also in for a booze-free month although I also don't tend to drink a huge amount anyway - although when I do.... I'm the epitome of a binge drinker! But not this month 😆

I'm sorry to hear of your troubles, LittlePea - people can be such dicks. I hope it's nothing irreplaceable that's been messed with!

I didn't know that about scales needing resetting every now and then. I don't know if mine has a button but I'm wondering if it does some sort of reassessment when the battery runs out and is replaced? I think I'm too nervous to try other ones, just in case!

You sound back on it, Sunshine - big hugs (if you're a hugger), firm pat on the back if not.

I'm a big fab if Curly-wurlys too, Puffalicious. I also hold my hand up to a nice finger of fudge too - another one under 100 calories! I've been eating DSs cake - somewhat over 100 calories but I've made allowance and he'd be crushed if I said no (and I don't want to, either!)

Good luck for all the WoWs tomorrow. I'm heading out of the Forest for my hike tomorrow so hoping for some different scenery and some new sights.

Benjispruce4 · 03/05/2022 20:27

I’m listening to Dr Rangan Chatterjee’s podcast lately. The one with Dr William Li( Eat to Beat Disease author) is quite motivating. I often find that when I think about my health and prevention of cancer and other diseases, I find more motivation than just my waistline. Worth a listen if you’re into that too.

ImALittlePea · 03/05/2022 20:42

People can be dicks indeed SanFran (although I may have used a slightly different choice of words yesterday 👀). Thankfully it's all repairable, although at an unfortunate cost that we now have to find, but no-one was hurt which is always the main thing, isn't it.

CrimsonAlligator · 03/05/2022 21:29

Hmm, I just checked my scales and can’t find a button either! 😂 According to the instructions, mine recalibrate whenever they’re switched on. Clearly they’re not doing a great job of that at the moment.

I’d join you in having an alcohol free May @Flowers111 , but I hardly ever drink so I don’t think that really counts. Great job on making it into the 11 stone bracket!

SunshineCake · 03/05/2022 22:05

Definitely a Uber @SanFranBear

My scales used to tell me the weight then my fat and water percentage but the latter two don't work now. I really need to show a loss tomorrow. Especially as dh say next to me and ate some lovely mushroom pasta and it smelt amazing. He offered me some but I said no. Good star me. But a loss would be better!

SunshineCake · 03/05/2022 22:20

Hugger! I'm not a taxi.

Puffalicious · 03/05/2022 22:20

Oooh love a finger of fudge too SanFranBear.

Echobelly · 03/05/2022 22:21

SunshineCake · 03/05/2022 22:20

Hugger! I'm not a taxi.

Haha 😄 Well, big squidgy virtual hug from me then - especially for passing on the mushroom pasta! And meant to say thank you as well - I had my frozen portion of risotto tonight and so far, doesn't feel like I poisoned myself so appreciate you looking me out that info a while back.

It's given me the taste now though so am thinking of making another tomorrow - walnut & fontina (although should probably plump for Edam as its similar in mildness and far lower in calories) I'll no doubt regret it when I'm dicing up shallots again!

ElderflowerTonic · 03/05/2022 23:00

I went to the gym this evening but then I had a lemon bar thing. It actually wasn't as more-ish as crisps so I'm not tempted to have a second one.
I'm wondering, based on some of the meal plans people have posted, if 16:8 might work better for me if I skipped breakfast. I'm not a morning person anyway so I do tend to eat toast a lot instead of making something more nutritious.
@ImALittlePea I'm so sorry to hear about what happened. You must have got an awful shock.

TheRealHousewife · 04/05/2022 07:04

Good Morning Everyone

WOW - it is rather 😮 as 1.5lbs down 🤷‍♀️. On reflection I have been very busy and more active than usual (for me) and totally on with portion control.

Great to see that a few of you are going booze free in May. I’m sure it will make a difference and you’ll all feel a bit healthier to boot. I’m the same as @CrimsonAlligator in that I hardly ever drink but I will honestly abstain for May 😊.

Sorry @ImALittlePea I missed a whole paragraph of one of your posts. Sorry to read you’d woken up to damage. Some people are so thoughtless. Are you all back to normal now?

@ElderflowerTonic Intermittent fasting is second nature to me as I usually can’t face food first thing. I usually follow 17/7 as I generally eat between 12:00 - 19:00 hrs. It works on a number of levels for people who have weight to lose. It’s thought you take in less calories within the eating window than you would eating 3 times a day plus snacks. You generally don’t have fluctuating blood sugars that can result in cravings, especially if also following lower carb, no added sugar, no processed foods etc. Thus making it easier to follow. It does become a way of life.

Menu
Meal 1 - Home made spicy chicken soup 🤞
Meal 2 - Sea bass, sweet potato, red pepper, green beans. Home made sauce with mayo, Greek yoghurt, chopped up tiny gherkins, s&p, lemon juice.
Tea, coffee, water.

Side note:- I’ve started a variety of seeds off including flowers, red pepper, green beans & cauliflower. Is finding it exciting when they start to sprout a sign I’m getting older? 😬

Enjoy your day !
