☀️THE SUMMER COUNTDOWN THREAD ☀️

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself in time for a Sizzling Summer!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Ooh.. so many lovely messages!

RealHousewife - your dinner looks delicious 😋 I tried a recipe I haven't made in years tonight and it didn't go too well - I ate it but DC and DDs friend who was over ended up with Chocolate Spread toasties... ooops!

fallfall - that place sounds amazing and hopefully your mum settles in easily.

Trounlet & Echobelly - sounds like you've both got good plans in place and well done on being so disciplined. I'd probably have gone for cake and pizza and then regretted it later!

And I only measure in kg's, Sunshine, because my scales are set that way and make me feel a bit better when they go down. I'm not very good at stones and pounds!

Avoided making the rich chocolate cake DS has set his heart on making this weekend so far - but sounds like we're on for tomorrow! Can't even escape for a mind-freeing hike until mid week. I am going to ask my boss if I can start late on Friday so I can get out then as well as I think my walks are what are making the difference from previous years - not even really for the weight loss (although hopefully helping!) but puts me in the very best frame of mind so my determination remains!

SanFranBear · 01/05/2022 20:42

And hellooo to Puffalicious - sorry to have missed you! Sounds like you made amazing progress last year and am sure it won't take you long to get back down there!

Gakatsbsk · 01/05/2022 21:49

Can I please join (but from May 8th).

Going to be doing exante for a few weeks (for pre diabetes purposes). Followed by calorie counting / healthy eating. Started hypnosis today.

My big motivator is a holiday to Gran Canaria at the end of July, but my ultimate motivator is that I want to feel better from a healthy diet.

Im almost 13st, have at least 3st to lose. Don’t care how long it takes.

thanks x

SunshineCake1 · 01/05/2022 22:01

Welcome @Gakatsbsk It is good to have a relaxed attitude about how long your plan will take.

Puffalicious · 01/05/2022 22:43

Thank you Sanfranbear, what a lovely welcome. This thread will make the difference, I'm sure.

TheRealHousewife · 01/05/2022 23:25

Welcome to the thread @Trounlet @Gakatsbsk Holidays tend to be strong motivators. I’ve had some fantastic holidays in the Canaries. Lovely place, not to extreme a climate and really friendly people. Not been for about 25 years … how time flies. You’ll both find that the ladies on these threads are very supportive and will coach members through the ups as well as the downs. Youll do great!

I'm 5ft 6. This week im going to cut out my daily avocado, bacon slices and hummus as my friend on herbalife says these are all bad....

SunshineCake · 02/05/2022 07:36

Avocado is good fat and hummus is fine as long as kept to a portion but I agree that bacon isn't great but you could try the fake stuff.

I think we need to be careful about saying food is bad or certain stuff is treats. It is just fuel. Funny how we all see cake, chocolate, burgers, etc as treats but no one ever talks about having a treat of a big vegetable salad or a soup full of delicious protein and veg. It is just fuel. Don't give it the power or status it doesn't need.

Eesha · 02/05/2022 07:43

@SunshineCake are you saying eat the avocado? The scales weren't really moving so I thought to make those changes. My frittata would be about 6 slices of bacon, half a tub of mushrooms, 10 eggs and some spinach and goats cheese. This would last me 4 days.

Benjispruce4 · 02/05/2022 07:44

Hi everyone. Not been on here before as usually put on the same 10lb and get it off relatively quickly with 5:2.
SW:10.4(top end of BMI green)
GW:9.4( to be int he middle of BMI green)
I’m 51 have always been more of a pear but suddenly weight going on my tummy and I don’t like it. Help!! I’ve just done two weeks of 18:6 with two med based meals and it’s made no difference at all. Anyway yesterday I was fed up so had breakfast and I need a new direction. I walk 3 miles briskly most days (and normally get to 10,000 steps over the day) with DH and dog and have started some weights and a bit of skipping. Not sure I can do 5:2 anymore as I get so hungry and have an 18 year old DD around who I don’t want to influence. So I think I’ll try keeping calories healthy ones and around 1500 and check in on Wednesday 🤔

CottonSock · 02/05/2022 07:45

I'm in. I gained a stone over the past year which was very tough at home.
I did ok in jan and feb, then got covid. The isolation boredom undid good habits and I ate and drank 5lbs in a week. Easter was also a disaster.
I'm doing no booze and otherwise just 3 decent meals a day and a small treat. So nothing drastic, but wine is my downfall. I drink too much then also binge eat.
I'm a few lbs down of water weight in week 1. Yesterday did lots of clothes trying on and ordering for summer. Has motivated me.

Start 9.12
Target 8.12
Now 9.8

Note I'm very short and BMI overweight

Benjispruce4 · 02/05/2022 07:50

I think another issue is that when I fast my digestive system slows down and leaves me constipated and bloated which doesn’t help. Now I love salad and veg and don’t have much of a sweet tooth so it should be easy. I normally need breakfast to trigger my bowels(sorry! 😳) so will see if that helps. Also must remove that 30g of porridge looks tiny but swells up with water/skimmed milk.

Benjispruce4 · 02/05/2022 07:50

Remember not remove

Benjispruce4 · 02/05/2022 07:53

@CottonSock I need to ditch the booze too. I only drink at weekends but could do without it.

CottonSock · 02/05/2022 07:57

@Benjispruce4 I know from bitter experience that drinking at weekends allows me to maintain but not shift. Im tracking booze free days on an app and have done my first week. I find it hard. to moderate wine but that's a whole other thread :)

SunshineCake · 02/05/2022 08:01

Yes @Eesha eat the avocado just keep within your calories if you are doing the counting. Eat anything. It is just fuel.

Benjispruce4 · 02/05/2022 08:24

I’ve never given up booze to lose weight. I’ve done dry January twice but didn’t lose weight(wast trying to) so I’ve always told myself it doesn’t affect my weight. But I think now I’m older it probably does and as you say, weakens my resolve.

Benjispruce4 · 02/05/2022 08:24

Wasn’t

ElderflowerTonic · 02/05/2022 08:57

@Benjispruce4 , I could have written your post. I have teens and a DD in her 20s who's living at home again so I don't want to be talking about dieting. Same age roughly and used to find it easy to lose half a stone but it seems impossible now. All my weight goes on my stomach too.

Benjispruce4 · 02/05/2022 09:08

Hi @ElderflowerTonic i have a uni DD too (21) who will be home in June/July and DD18 doing A levels.
Just had 30g oats with water, 2 tbsp blueberries, 1 tbsp yoghurt and a tsp chia seeds( good for digestion) and it was lovely and I’m full. It’s reminded me of portion control. I calculated around 210 cals.

CrimsonAlligator · 02/05/2022 09:59

(I’ve name changed @TheRealHousewife . Used to be known as crazzzy 🐈 )

Whenever people mention the scales not moving, I like to share this article @Eesha .

www.secondnature.io/guides/mind/motivation/weight-loss-plateaus-explained

It explains why sometimes our bodies just like to take a break from shifting weight. It’s nothing to worry about and, if it’s only been going on for a few weeks, there’s no need to drastically cut calories either, as it’s unlikely to make much of a difference. Just be patient and keep doing what you are doing.

TheRealHousewife · 02/05/2022 10:09

Crimsonalligator That's article is excellent, and super useful for the original 🐢! (Tortoise- Sunshinecake1 and I are in the Tortoise group 😅).

SingaporeSlinky · 02/05/2022 10:58

@Eesha I’d always recommend doing your own research rather than relying on ‘my friend says’. As Sunshine says, nothing is “bad” in moderation, but avocados are well known to contain healthy fats, they are just very calorific. So as part of a calorie counted salad, they’re very healthy, but you just need to be aware that they contain a few hundred cals. Your frittata sounds nice, and similar to some cheese and egg muffins I make sometimes, which I use up leftover veg in, like mushrooms, peppers, tomatoes and herbs. I use ham or bacon, but probably slightly less than you listed. Try weighing out the ingredients and working out how many calories each day’s portion would be, then you can adjust as necessary, or try freezing some portions so you’re not eating it 4 days in a row. And make sure you include any oils or butter you’re using. I weigh out the cheese, because again, nothing wrong with cheese, but very high in calories.
