☀️THE SUMMER COUNTDOWN THREAD ☀️

Fresh new month, fresh new start, fresh new habits. Jump right in to reset & refresh to become a healthier version of yourself in time for a Sizzling Summer!

As no one size fits all, members need to follow their own way of eating to LOSE or MAINTAIN. This thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

We generally have WOW (Weigh On Wednesday) day each week. However post and share your progress as often or as little as you prefer. Do what works for you.

The important thing is not to think of it as a diet (based on deprivation and unsustainable) but more a way of life (sustainable & enjoyable).

I calorie count based on a lower carb Mediterranean diet. I intermittent fast and generally eat twice a day.

Are you in😊 What food plan will you be following? What do you want to change and why?

Big hugs, Sunshine... no real help but I know I thought the world revolved around me at 18, as did most of my friends. It sounds so hard though Flowers

I'm not expecting great things from tomorrow's WoW (actual weighing in on Weds to start the month on the new thread) as have been a bit off plan last couple of days but new month, new plan, and all that! See you on the other side!!

Puffalicious · 01/06/2022 00:09

Hey all!

Been quiet this week and not keeping up with you all! Had a stinking cold and was in bed Thur/ Fri (typically my day off and the bank Holiday day😡). I'm rarely ill, so it annoyed me! Did manage away in the camper van Sat/ Sun which was glorious. Not great for waistline though with fish and chips and snacks!

I've not been outrageous, but not keeping to my IF and snacking too much. Had HMIE inspectors in school last 2 days, so was rather intense, so I needed chocolate! Im back on it tomorrow.

Will WOW with you all tomorrow. Am 5lbs down for May at the minute, but I fear it maybe less after this week.

SunshineCake sending sisterhood vibes. 🌻

@SunshineCake thank you

Sorry I wasn't "about" yesterday

Still sounds like things are very difficult and delicately balanced with dd.

Have you had panic attacks before? They’re awful. If you’ve had before have you found anything that works for you?

Graphista · 01/06/2022 01:41

@GonnaGetGoingReturns I must admit I do like Tesco sweet and salt popcorn. Other ideas:

Low cal "crisp" type snacks - Twiglets, quavers, skips, wotsits

Snack packs of nuts - 3 for 2 at tesco at the moment. 25g or 50g sizes some are fruit and nut mix.

Cereal bars

Skinny bars (love these!)

Fruit (you can get banana protector thingies) but also wee pot of grapes I've wee "clip it's" hold a small portion of grapes off the vine and protect them pretty well, apples stand up pretty well.

With a cool bag you can also have:

Hard boiled egg ( wee "clip it's" again)

Healthy sandwiches/wraps

Sushi packs

Yogurt and wee yogurt drinks

Deli meat roll ups - I'm veggie so I have quorn or squeaky bean versions

Cherry tomatoes and "crudités" - carrot, cucumber, pepper sticks etc you could take a wee low cal hummus stacker pot with you

I did a low impact/easy exercise class today, hoping for a swim tomorrow and walking (very slowly!) as much as possible.

I need to be really careful to not weigh too often as it can be addictive

So true!

Drinking enough also something I struggle with and it’s so important

@therealhousewife I brought down the tone didn’t I?

Well done on the loss! It all counts as you tell us

Anyone got ideas for butternut squash I grabbed as a yellow label special? Dated tomorrow hopefully something slow cooker based?

ImALittlePea · 01/06/2022 07:50

Net loss of 1lb in May after a gain since last Friday. Ah well. Onwards to June!

Benjispruce4 · 01/06/2022 07:57

@Graphista I love simple roasted butternut squash . Just a drizzle of olive oil and salt.
Or I make a soup after roasting and add some curry spices and stir in some yoghurt
Or just go with a curry.

Wizzwazzwas · 01/06/2022 09:14

So that's May done. Well done everyone for all the achievements in the month.

My overall weight loss for the month was 1.9kg, a bit lower than planned. But considering how much I ate some days and how stressful work was overall I'm pleased. Especially as With the exception of a single portion of ice cream (first unhealthy dessert since Feb) I stuck to the right foods even if more than planned. And got back on track right away. Delighted to have hit 10kg overall after 13 weeks.

SW: 91.5kg
CW: 81.5kg

Also ploughing on with C25K (averaging one run a week!). And have done a few swims. Dog also helping me keep up more walking than a couple of months ago.

Onwards to June!

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 01/06/2022 10:18

@Graphista - thanks for all the snack ideas! I love them all.

I do have to exercise self control. I bought a Waitrose Red Pepper hoummous and managed to polish it off on Nairns oatcakes/Marmite rice cakes late last night but having said that I haven't had dips for ages.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 01/06/2022 10:21

@Benjispruce4 and @Graphista - I found a great recipe for butternut squash in a sort of pie📧

Roast some butternut squash.
cook a large leek (or 2 smaller ones) with onion and stock (veggie)
add butterbeans
then add this mixture to pyrex dish or metal deep baking tray and stir in creme fraiche. Put some filo pastry on top. Bake in oven. Serve with salad. This also keeps nicely for next day or so. Don't think it's too calorific and you can use lower fat creme fraiche.

Benjispruce4 · 01/06/2022 13:21

That sounds nice @GonnaGetGoingReturns I can see that benefitting from tarragon.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 01/06/2022 13:36

@Benjispruce4 - I don't think it has tarragon but it does have about three quarters of a jar of green pesto added to it which I forgot.

It's surprisingly filling.

Benjispruce4 · 01/06/2022 13:38

Ah that would be nice . I just love tarragon. I make a chicken and leek pie with stick and half fat crème fraiche(Jamie Oliver recipe) and I always put tarragon in that. Never tried it with filo though.

MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat · 01/06/2022 18:46

Hello, please could I (re) join you all? I was on a few previous threads last year. I went down from 86kg to 66kg and then I got with my dd who is now 5 weeks old. I’ve just weighed myself and I’m 79.9kg so have gained a fair bit but would like to get back down to what I was last year. Particularly important to me as I had spinal surgery a couple of years ago and losing weight was a huge help with my recovery and I don’t want the extra weight to cause any further problems with my back. DD is my third baby, I have 2 little boys who are 5 and 3 so running around after them is currently my exercise!

LightningStar · 01/06/2022 18:57

Hi @MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat , coke and join us on the June thread.

LightningStar · 01/06/2022 18:57

Obviously I mean come!

Graphista · 02/06/2022 02:57

I normally roast squash myself and make into soup but no blender at the moment must rectify that. Do we think I can roast the squash and freeze to be made into soup another day?

@GonnaGetGoingReturns you're most welcome. I'm more of a grazer than meal person too

Pie recipe notes need to check what I have in

@MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat I remember you welcome back! Congrats on the baby!

Gakatsbsk · 05/06/2022 16:13

Struggling today, still within calories but in desperate need of a food shop so no viable meals in the house.

toying with the idea of Chinese but want to do it within calories. I’m very fussy anyway so it’d be boiled rice/salt and chilli chips (not both) and curry sauce. I have 1700 cals left for the day so thinking this will be ok, not sure though.

If I don’t get Chinese idk what I’ll eat.

Gakatsbsk · 05/06/2022 16:15

It’s also nearly a week since my last WI, Sunday is going to be my weigh day from now on.
I’m a lb down but happy with this - now 11st8lbs. The first stone and a half was easy as a lot of water weight / visceral fat. I’m on to the hard and slow part now but determined.

LightningStar · 05/06/2022 16:24

@Gakatsbsk @Graphista join the June thread Smile

Gakatsbsk · 05/06/2022 17:18

@LightningStar just realised it’s June 😂 too many nightshifts
