But I've decided to give it a go

The food is the sort of stuff I like to eat although I'll have to make some substitutes as I'm a vegetarian. But I love Bircher, porridge, all her snacks and salads etc

I'm starting tomorrow and wondered if anyone had some advice regarding the method or stories

Thanks!

Hi @GloryLory I've been thinking about baked oats a LOT this week, do you have any preferred recipes? (of course I can, and will, Google, if nothing jumps to mind).

GloryLory · 05/05/2022 14:56

@Throwawaytoday
Take about 50 g of oats and blend them until they have a flour like texture.
Mix in 1/2 banana or 1 pear or 1 egg, 70 ml milk, a bit of cinnamon and vanilla paste, 1/2 teaspoon baking powder and 1 tablespoon peanutbutter (any butter will do i guess) and blend again.
After that i mix in some chocolate chips, just for the flavor ;) bake about 3-4 mins at 800W in the microwave.
Its a bigger portion than LPM recipes but it really keeps you full for a long time. Of course you can do less, too.

Hi gang - I might have to draw a veil over yesterday (fucking oven crapped out whilst I was stuck on a work call until 7.30 and husband went to the chippy) but I’ve stepped back into the circle like a chubby line dancer today.
B: eggs on toast
L: Greek frittata (was lovely)
S: oatcakes and hummus
D: planning the sausages and bean mash thing - is it nice?

HardRockOwl · 05/05/2022 16:55

@Hobbes8 howling at 'chubby line dancer' GrinGrinGrin

I went out for a coffee and cake date today but instead of coffee/cake I had a fully LP-compliant smoothie and have counted it as one of my snacks for today. My first maternity leave was basically sponsored by cake but this time things are different! It felt good to remain in the circle but the smoothie still felt special and fun.

Raspberry chocolate bircher (from the 6 week book) for breakfast and chicken breast with tomato salad for lunch. Honestly it feels as if I'm eating loads... not counting calories is making me nervous! Loving all the whole foods though. Hope it's working...

GoodNutButters · 05/05/2022 17:23

@Hobbes8 ooh I want to try that Greek frittata. Long may your line dancing continue!

ElvenDreamer · 05/05/2022 17:52

Oooh, raspberry and chocolate bircher is on my menu for next week @GoodNutButters , looking forward to trying it!

HardRockOwl · 05/05/2022 18:13

@GoodNutButters I hear ya sister on the panic over not calorie counting. I ALWAYS calorie count.

Haven't bothered since I started this. I just stick to the plan, don't eat sugar, pasta, potatoes or rice and don't mentally calculate any calories in a thing.

It's quite liberating isn't it?

Food times for today ...

Total 2% Greek yogurt with protein powder + berries

Apple slices + peanut butter

Babybel + cocoa hot chocolate

Halloumi burger in oat roll with tomatoes

And predictably ... I'm not hungry for dinner!

OP posts:
Throwawaytoday · 05/05/2022 19:06

I've had a slightly weird selection of food today...

Oatcakes and nut butter.

Mushrooms and poached eggs on (one slice of brown) sourdough.

Houmous and crisp bread.

Basically... Bit too carby... More 'calorie counting' than 'Louise Parker'.

I'll have something proteinous for dinner when DD is in bed (I'm eating late tonight as DH is out).

Hobbes8 · 05/05/2022 19:13

It was really nice @GoodNutButters and had a healthy dollop of feta on top. I hate those diet recipes with a teensy pointless sliver of cheese.

Dinner was a mash up of the Vietnamese salad - used that dressing (which is lovely) and made a prawn stir fry. And I have leftovers of that and the frittata for tomorrow - hurrah!

chloechloe · 05/05/2022 20:08

Hallo @GloryLory Bonn kenne ich gar nicht, aber ich war laaaange her in Köln - tolle Stadt!

@Flopisfatteningbingforchristmas I know how difficult cooking for several kids with different requirements / tastes can be! I have a couple of book recommendations. There is a great one called The Good Stuff written by a nutritionist and she often suggests substitutes if you want to make something dairy / egg / gluten free etc etc. The River Cottage Baby and Toddler cookbook is similar - basically family friendly recipes despite the name.

The suggestion @GloryLory made is a good one - just serve things deconstructed. I often make soup and then give the kids additional bits to add - home made croutons, soup pasta, Parmesan, sliced sausage (it’s a German thing!) etc. Although at the moment I’m basically batch cooking things and eating something different. Somebody posted about not wanting to be seen to eat differently than the kids - I totally agree to this!

chloechloe · 05/05/2022 20:13

My food for today:

Vanilla oatbran with blueberries

Apple and walnuts

Tomato / Avo / Mozzarella (one of @HardRockOwl ‘s recipes )😀

Roasted pepper, lentil and tomato soup with some mozzarella thrown in.

I’m still hungry though so might have some yoghurt and fruit seeing as I’ve only had one snack. I’m not going to manage to exercise today (despite having put my gym kit on) as I need to do some work now.

Loved fat Irish dancer stepping into the circle image! Or should that be a getting slimmer Irish dancer?!

Food today all on plan which was a miracle as I got hardly any sleep last night followed by a super stressful day at work:

B: Greek yog, nuts, seeds, strawberries

S: oatcakes & PNB

L: deli platter - mozzarella, prosciutto, olives, pesto, salad

S: green smoothie

D: LP "pizza" chicken. It's nothing like a pizza but it was a nice enough tomato sauce

Yep I feel weird not calorie counting either .. quite tempted to put a days menu into my fitness pal to just see. Has anyone counted their calories just out of interest? I'm guesstimating 1600 a day??

HardRockOwl · 05/05/2022 21:54

@NinetyNineRedBalloonsGoBy I'd guess 1400. But I suppose it depends on a few factors. Snacks of say, fruit and a smoothie will be a lot less dense than snacks of monkey bread and oat cakes with banana so who knows?

I considered counting it to see but then thought no, I'm quite happy being oblivious 😅

@GloryLory and @chloechloe
Mein Deutsch ist nicht so gut aber ich mag es zu lesen dein 'mumsnet posts'.
Ok, I suspect that was terrible, but I tried! I am enjoying testing my German out reading your posts!

chloechloe · 05/05/2022 22:58

Gut gemacht @ElvenDreamer !

Not all my meals look like that @HardRockOwl - breakfast is eaten from a chipped bowl whilst standing up in the kitchen (Did I just hear Louise keel over in horror somewhere?)

KitchenFishCurry · 06/05/2022 07:29

@NinetyNineRedBalloonsGoBy I did my calories on Wed about 1200 but that would have been lower than normal I think. I ran with my running club on Wednesday night so no real dinner because it is too late when I get home just soup and both my snacks. Also was in work all day so no extra eating between meals and I ignored the open tin of Quality Street ( I didn't ignore it I looked at it a lot but didn't eat any) didn't do so well yesterday I made cookies and had to check they weren't poisoness

KitchenFishCurry · 06/05/2022 07:35

Just to say I don't usually calorie count but my daughter is and as I do most of the cooking I've been working out values for meals. Calorific values are a measure of how much energy comes out when you burn food to heat water so don"t really have much connection to how your body deals with them,

GloryLory · 06/05/2022 08:09

@ElvenDreamer das war doch schon sehr gut :) ich wusste gar nicht, dass du etwas deutsch sprichst.

I love the image of a chubby dancer. My inner chubby dancer was out of control last night, had the best burger ever because we were in a fabulous restaurant and i was starving hungry.. I try not to fell guilty but i guess i lost all my progress. Rest of the day went well with 13 k steps and LPM meals.
So today i try to do better today which will be difficult because i forgot an important meeting today, running late and out of food.

@Hobbes8 the bean and sausage thing wasn't nice for me at all.. but i guess you have to try, maybe you like it

GloryLory · 06/05/2022 08:16

for the calorie thing I counted them on my LPM round last year sometimes and it was always about 1200-1400 kcal, which is really low (thats what a toddler gets in hospital...) and i thought that is why i was always so hungry with 70 k steps + 4-5 times exercise per week.

KitchenFishCurry · 06/05/2022 08:22

I don’t think I’m hungry more my mouth gets bored . I’ve started reading Glucose Revolution Jessie Inchauspe and seems compatible with LP

Louise Parker method anyone? I know it's a bit old fashioned now ..
GloryLory · 06/05/2022 08:40

In my case it was real hunger from my stomach.

Is that breakfast with berries and broccoli?!
