But I've decided to give it a go

The food is the sort of stuff I like to eat although I'll have to make some substitutes as I'm a vegetarian. But I love Bircher, porridge, all her snacks and salads etc

I'm starting tomorrow and wondered if anyone had some advice regarding the method or stories

Thanks!

@MrsWateringcan I hear you completely about not wanting to cook/eat a different meal to the rest of the family and personally I don't do it. I pick an LP meal O think we'll all enjoy, poss adding a bit of rice or some potato wedges for the husband and kids, or I cook something from one of the other ridiculously large amount for someone who doesn't enjoy cooking recipe books I own and just leave bits out of my portion. Very rare occasions if I can't make that work there might be some leftovers from another meal that week I can have.

Hi ladies, I'd like to join you too (in fact I'm rejoining as I was on here near the start under a different name...never really got things started and had a load of Easter chocs to finish off 😁)

I'm approaching this in a fairly relaxed way as I don't want to eat a different evening meal to the rest of the family, but I am making breakfasts from the books and salady variations on the lunches. I've charged up my fitbit too! I want to lose around half a stone so I think that should be doable.

We try to eat the same meal as a family in the evening too - largely as I don't want to let DD(5) think that any food is good or bad, just that we all eat healthily because it's the right thing to do to our bodies to stay fit and strong (I am neither fit, nor strong).

Afternoon all, I’ve been AWOL for a couple of days, well actually I haven’t but every time I start to reply I write half a message and then I get distracted.

I’m going to merge my afternoon snack with lunch as I’m not hungry in the morning and after lunch I’m hungry 30 mins later even if I have eaten the morning snack. It seems to have worked well today even though I did 20mins HIT before breakfast.

Sparker201 · 04/05/2022 13:53

Welcome @MrsWateringcan like you I want to cook something that the family can all eat, so am following my general meal plan in the evening and just having a side of veg or salad instead of pasta/rice/potatoes/bread. For example I had chilli con carne last night without the rice for me and had a side of cauliflower instead, and on Monday I did roast chicken with lots of green veg and a little gravy and skipped the roast potatoes and yorkshire pudding that the family had. Last week I cooked the Hairy Bikers Chicken Cassoulet which was a big hit with everyone although they thought a can of Butter Beans and Cannelli beans in one meal was too much beanage - I will just add one can of beans next time 😉 I am still losing, and have lots of salad and fruit based meals/snacks during the day. Hope this helps 😀

NinetyNineRedBalloonsGoBy · 04/05/2022 17:57

Just to echo what everyone else is saying - I cook for 3 dc and they have what I have plus a carb. So tonight I'm having baked salmon & veg but they'll have that plus pasta. It's v easy

Hello all, I am still here but have not been on the thread for a few days. I waved at the circle from a distance on Sunday night, when I went to dinner with friends, but in my defence, we were celebrating having run 10k that morning! (I am a very slow runner, so it had taken me about 1.5 hours). Despite that lapse, weigh-in on Monday showed another 1lb loss, giving 5.5 lb in total. I am happy enough with that. My challenge this week will be a couple of days away visiting family, where I won’t be in control of the food. I’ll do my best to keep in or close to the circle though.
One thing that I have found different this time is that I look forward to getting back to the delicious, healthy LP food! Also, when I do stray, I am not saying “Oh well, might as well give up then”.
Reading this thread is a real support 🤗so now I will go back and catch up on the last few pages.

HardRockOwl · 04/05/2022 20:57

Food times for today - one day I'll get to the cooking bit! I fell down the bloody stairs didn't I so that distracted me from dinner

Bircher with berries and pumpkin seeds

Oatcakes with cashew butter + strawberries

Quinoa with mushrooms, plant based Boursin + salad

Apple slices + peanut butter

Plant based sausage with protein wrap and tomatoes

@HardRockOwl i love your non-cooking approach and i can really use a bit more of it, because i dont want to cook/clean up every single day.

I'm veeeeeeeeery proud today because i managed to eat lunch with friends who had chips and all that - i had my chicken veggie wok and had a really small amount of rice with it - there was no other possibility.
So food went as it was planned and i walked in 13 k steps which is great. Cant do sport this week bc i'm having a cold.

chloechloe · 04/05/2022 21:46

It’s nice to see the thread so busy - hello to the new faces!

I had a step outside the circle last night when out for dinner. I had sparkling water to start but then followed it with a Lillet. For food I had a chicken noodle salad but left most of the noodles. I was so full afterwards - and then thought I should have been more disciplined!

@GloryLory I’m in Oberbayern - where are you? Funnily enough I have some of those shakes but haven’t even tried them as I thought they would be off-plan but hadn’t bothered to check the ingredients! Now I have a few handy snacks!

Moanranger · 04/05/2022 23:40

So today decided to tackle the exercise pillar. I read the 6 week plan & have my area prepped, yoga mat out, etc. I will start this properly on Saturday. The Surroundings pillar is coming on well. I decorated most of my house between Sept-Dec last year, & v slowly got all the accents together. I just had 4 new light fixtures put up this week. So now feeling very Zen & calm in my surroundings. Should help with delicate eating!
Tomorrow v busy, so taking my high protein apple cinnamon muffin for breakfast & leek-broccoli-butter bean soup for lunch

GoodNutButters · 05/05/2022 04:19

Interesting to see a few others discussing the difficulty of evening meals - this is what I'm finding the biggest challenge in week one. Breakfast, lunch and snacks are a doddle and already I'm really enjoying those, and feeling much more energised throughout the day. Avoiding sugar has been surprisingly smooth thanks to the GOOD vanilla paste (and I haven't even bought any stevia yet). I'm not feeling at all hungry or deprived.

10k steps still largely elude me, despite constant daily laundry and tidying and sorting out dc etc (those who say they get theirs in just through pottering around the house must have a bigger house than I do?!) but I'm making progress AND I've been doing a daily postnatal workout video on YouTube, which feels really good and like the first proper step back to fitness.

I think it's in the LFL book that Louise talks about generally trying to be an active mum, taking the kids out loads and running around with them, cycling and dancing with them and everything. I definitely want more of this for my family, so concentrating on upping this now and not getting disheartened if the step count on my Fitbit doesn't reflect it yet! Maybe I should get a new one, it's quite ancient.

GloryLory · 05/05/2022 08:19

I think it's very important just to move daily, even if you dont walk those 10 k steps in. Its about changing habits - instead of meeting friends for coffee and cake, take a walk, and so on.
Its not improtant to hit 10 k, in my first and most effetive LPM round i had an average of 8k steps per day and lost 5 kg.

What's the problem with the evebing meals? I didnt really get it. I dont have a family to cook for but i think there are many kids-friendly recipes.
And of course, if you're cooking oven salmon, you can bake some fish fingers for the kids instead and so on.

Meal plan today is

  • mango quark

  • nectarine with cheese

  • leftover lovely lentil bake

  • oven veggies with spiced cottage cheese

Have to plan for the next few days again

MrsWateringcan · 05/05/2022 08:20

Good to hear it's not just me with the evening meal problem. I need to go and do more shopping for some of LP's ingredients as I've just been eating nuts for my snacks and I'm getting bored of them! Also I know it's not a calorie counting diet as such but they are pretty high in fat so I'm guessing mixing in some other snacks will be better.

Yesterday I charged up my fitbit and then forgot to put it on - v annoying because I was working at an office which is about an hour away on foot! I know the steps still count even without a fitbit but it's so much more satisfying to see the final number!

KitchenFishCurry · 05/05/2022 08:32

I wouldn’t worry too much about the steps as long as you are moving, maybe just try to gradually increase them . I have an Apple Watch and I think it vastly over estimates calories burnt during exercise which I am then in danger of eating back. I really have a love hate relationship with my watch it’s so bossy.
Photos of yesterday’s food, all my snacks at dinner time. The broccoli and bean soup is nice but not very green (I even tried to photoshop a green filter) I added spinach and garlic and chilli no saffron , they don’t sell it at my Lidl .

Flopisfatteningbingforchristmas · 05/05/2022 08:55

Morning all. All of you are doing so well.

I’m struggling with evening meals too but then with one veggie and others allergic to dairy, soya and coconut as well as fussy young children evening meals have aways been difficult.

Today is my first week weigh in and I’ve lost 5lbs. It’s the same 5lbs I’ve been losing and regaining repeatedly over the last 6 months so it will be interesting to see what happens next week. My 6 week plan book has finally arrived so I’m going to start reading it today.

Stay inside the circle everyone.

Sainsburys have some fancy insulated lunch bags , would one of those cancel the dreaded Tupperware ( asking for a friend)?

I think as only as it feels special and makes it like an occasion to the person eating it’s fine.

@KitchenFishCurry 😂, I've been seriously considering getting some cute bamboo bento boxes or similar, can't justify it really though, maybe it will be a treat to myself, once I've lost a certain amount, that days 'pleasure pop's as it were.

Today I made the quinoa power porridge for breakfast, can't say I was massively keen but it was filling at least and made me try something different. Hard boiled eggs and veggie sticks for morning snack, tuna and butter bean salad will be lunch and I have a slow roasted mushroom and halloumi dish for main meal. Walked the school run (just over 2 miles) today so steps good already. Trying, as this is my day off, to tackle the pillar of beautiful surrounds. (Interpret this as discovering where the hell my floor and surfaces are under a sea of chaos!)

HardRockOwl · 05/05/2022 11:23

Morning all

I'm having real trouble posting on the thread - it won't let me flip to the latest post so I'm trying with a random post to see if that lets me see stuff! Just glitches out and returns me to my phone Home Screen

So annoying

OP posts:
HardRockOwl · 05/05/2022 11:26

Yeah it's still shit but I can read a bit and then it glitches

@Flopisfatteningbingforchristmas that's a great loss and I know what you mean. I have lost the same 7lbs thirty times over so it's always good to get to fresh territory which I'm sure you'll be in next week

@ElvenDreamer you're doing well on the steps! I don't usually bother because I've got in the mindset of telling myself swimming is enough exercise for me!

OP posts:
MrsWateringcan · 05/05/2022 11:37

I'm just coming back briefly to moan - I had bircher with berries for breakfast, then an apple and some almonds for a snack, and I'm bloody starving. Lunch at 11.35 seems a bit ridiculous!

HardRockOwl · 05/05/2022 12:10

@MrsWateringcan can you make a hot chocolate with cocoa powder? Not sure of your work set up!

Sounds like you need something more filling. We all have those hungry days. Eat if you're hungry

OP posts:
GoodNutButters · 05/05/2022 12:15

I know the feeling @MrsWateringcan - I often need oatcakes to be involved in my mid-morning snack! Fruit just isn't enough sometimes.

MrsWateringcan · 05/05/2022 12:22

Thanks both! Got briefly distracted by work but am now having lunch. Definitely need something more filling mid morning.

@HardRockOwl is the cocoa a LP recipe? I've not spotted that!

GloryLory · 05/05/2022 12:31

@Flopisfatteningbingforchristmas
thats a tricky situation to manage. I dont know how old your children are but maybe you can do some "buddha bowls". You prep some veggies, proteinsource, herbs, salas, whatever you want and throw it on the table so everyone can combine his/her own meal. Maybe you find some nice inspo on google.
That works well with soups too, like her chicken veggie soup - just cook the soup and soy or chicken extra, maybe a few noodles or rice extra and everyone can eat to his own preferences and you dont need to cook 3 meals per day.

@MrsWateringcan I feel your hungry day, i was starving today, too. Somedays our bodies just need more and i myself sometimes struggle to acknowledge that...
And for the snacks, yes, try to experiment with smoothies, joghurts, proteinbars, selfmade healthy cookie dough from chickpeas (sort of sweet hummus, give it a try), cheese.

BTW @all
do you know baked oats? there are so many LPM friendly versions out and it feels like cake, makes a nice breakfast and a lovely snack
