But I've decided to give it a go

The food is the sort of stuff I like to eat although I'll have to make some substitutes as I'm a vegetarian. But I love Bircher, porridge, all her snacks and salads etc

I'm starting tomorrow and wondered if anyone had some advice regarding the method or stories

Thanks!

Just had a snack. Piece of German rye bread topped with light cream cheese, a strawberry and a few unsalted cashews. I amended it from the 'monkey bread' snack as didn't fancy nut butter and banana as a topping as I had a couple of oatcakes with cashew butter for my morning snack

I've had a wholemeal roll with salad and vegan bacon for lunch and I think dinner is going to be roasted veg with feta cheese

Hope everyone getting on ok!

I'm not at home atm @pippinsleftleg but from memory all three contain explanation of 'the method'. Lean for Life was the 1 she wrote first and the explanation in that is what drew me in in the first place. That being said I probably use more recipes from the 6 week method. Either 6 week or cookbook (and this is the bit I can't remember) contains more veggie friendly stuff, I'm not veggie but I don't necessarily want meat in every meal. Cookbook also contains extra recipes for things like big family meals, or extra sides for people not on the method etc. Hope that helps a bit! Personally I'd say go for the 6 week method I think.

HardRockOwl · 31/03/2022 16:33

I read somewhere that she's working on a 4th book and is much more plant based now - and I can understand why as that seems to be the fashion these days! Suits me as a vegetarian but I don't mind a decent mix at all.

Where I sometimes struggle is trying to adapt things like 'one pot chicken' and 'salmon with veggies' type meals .

I love a series of books called ' the roasting tin', so many of the recipes in those fit the method. There is a 'green roasting tin' one which is all veggie and vegan but all the books have a good selection of veg stuff too.

HardRockOwl · 31/03/2022 17:55

So, food times for today ...

Bircher with strawberries

3 x oatcakes with cashew butter +a nectarine

Small roll with plant kitchen bacon and salad

Rye bread with cream cheese + strawberry

Roasted veg with crumbled feta

I'm feeling pretty hungry today! But think I've stick to it OK

Today I am having the following

B: Vanilla Bircher

L:Asian salmon salad

D: Prosciutto wrapped chicken

Snacks: some nuts and boiled egg if get really hungry.

gingerhills · 01/04/2022 07:21

My usual day starts well with something healthy and I have all good intentions. I swim for 40 mins every day and I then feel all virtuous.

By 3pm I'm usually knee deep in Percy pigs, flapjack, cheese rolls , crisps etc

Me too. Why is this?

Every morning: skyr, berries, nuts.

Every afternoon, crisps, jelly sweets. If you think Louise Parker can cure this, I'm going to give it a try.

HardRockOwl · 01/04/2022 08:30

@supertedious sounds good. But, according to the gospel who is Louise, you MUST have those snacks or a bad thing happens. Dunno what but she stresses it's crucial. So get them down you Grin

HardRockOwl · 01/04/2022 08:33

@gingerhills yes it's story of my life tbh. Or I have a healthy breakfast and a healthy lunch and I feel all full etc but it's like the eating triggers something in me. That says ' go and get three bags of wotsits and the tub of millionaires bites'

So I do

However I've been keeping focussed and a sneaky weigh in this morning shows I'm 5lbs down which isn't too shabby in about 4 days. I think today is the 5th day, will have to check

I know it's just carb bloat but still. Not bad

Breakfast is a bircher made with oat milk, oats, oat bran, chia seeds and Greek yogurt, topped with raspberries and apricots

Not sure on rest of the day yet. Snack will probably be baby carrots 🥕 with red pepper hummus. Not homemade as I really don't have the inclination whilst M&S sell a nice one!

I really like the sound of this plan - it sounds like the food options are actually nice and made of food.😂 I am on a big push to cut down on microprocessed foods from our family diet so it sounds like this will fit in with that really well.

You have inspired me to buy the books and give it a go! 😀

supertedious · 01/04/2022 09:18

@HardRockOwl thanks about the snack I will go and chop some carrots and get hummus out Grin

ElvenDreamer · 01/04/2022 09:28

Right, I'm in work now after a yoghurt, bran and blueberries breakfast, I have a prawn and fennel salad in my lunch box and there are mini meat loaves and veg waiting tin the simmering oven for tonight with a few potato wedges on the side for the rest of the family. Snacks not fully planned but usually involve oatcakes or nuts or fruit or hard boiled eggs. I have however decided that I need to adjust my snack timing. I don't normally feel like I need one in the morning but always want one in the evening (even if I've had one in the morning), yesterday I took a step out of the circle with an extra snack in the evening. So I'm going to snack afternoon and evening deliberately. I get tired in the afternoons and a lot of my work is early evening so it makes sense I think. Cheers everyone!

HardRockOwl · 01/04/2022 13:18

@PushingAnElephantUpTheStairs welcome and do give it a go. It's early days for me but I've not yet felt hungry as such. I've felt a bit 'empty' from time to time but it's never long before I can eat again 😀

I'm a real carboholic so I do need to still include them - all on plan of course. So I've had my usual plant kitchen bacon, avocado and tomatoes wholemeal roll for lunch so today I won't have the snack I'd really like - which is that monkey bread thing! Think it would overload me on carbs

So see pic for lunch. I realise I'm the crappest photographer ever and although it looks terrible it was very nice

This afternoons snack will be the seedy strawbs thing - although it's seedy cranberries in my case and I think dinner will be a large feta, walnut and nectarine salad

@ElvenDreamer that does make sense re the snacks. And in one of the books, Louise does say that if you're hungry, just eat another snack. Keeps you firmly in the circle ⭕️

@supertedious excellent. Big tick ✅

Dinner times!

Half a pouch of Jamie Oliver tomato & Olive grains

Salad of leaves, celery, cherry tomatoes

Plant kitchen BBQ no chicken pieces

Dressing of tahini, white wine vinegar, lime, black pepper and olive oil

All mixed together

Was delicious!

Not a LP recipe but it follows the principles I think. Got the dressing from the book.

Baked apricots with ricotta cream for breakfast and a few nuts. I thought it couldn't possibly fill me up but I'm stuffed now.

I think I'll make Monday my weigh in day ... although I started last Wednesday. I'm hopeful for a half decent loss but who knows?

Hope everyone OK and getting on fine! I'll keep updating even if I'm talking to myself Grin

@HardRockOwl your breakfast looks so good! I am on tricky days now as husband is in charge or cooking at the weekends, I had bacon egg and lettuce in a wholemeal roll for breakfast though so that worked well, we always have curry on a Saturday evening but he makes it from scratch and it's all good ingredients so I'll just leave the rice out of my portion. Lunch will be a some kind of salad. Need to work put somewhere to fit in some exercise too, Saturdays are always a bit hectic, I'll run tomorrow morning though.

supertedious · 02/04/2022 17:52

@HardRockOwl that breakfast looks scrumptious!
Feeling tired today so having the beloved omelette for super tonight and went on a long dog walk.
Going to aim for better tomorrow with snacks and a spinning class.
I'm chosen Monday as weigh day. I have noticed this week my clothes are feeling loser which is a bonus Smile

HardRockOwl · 02/04/2022 20:15

@ElvenDreamer sounds like you're making good progress. It's always so much harder to stick to things when you're tired though

OP posts:
HardRockOwl · 02/04/2022 20:21

@ElvenDreamer sorry I confused you with @supertedious so just bloody ignore me Grin

But sounds like you're both going great guns

I had lunch out today so was wondering if I'd be able to resist the baked Camembert and profiteroles. I'm pleased to say that I did and had a kale, feta and mango salad

Came home and had a slice of rye with cashew butter and strawberries as my afternoon snack and made a grain salad with plant kitchen chicken and tahini dressing so that's me done for another day

Morning all! Found you!

How is everyone doing? So excited to have found this method - all very much my kind of food, and snacks, I love snacks!

Did the sausages last night which were delicious, and have the carrot cake Bircher waiting in the fridge for me downstairs.

I also got the Truvia sweetener which I tried in my tea yesterday - amazing!

Good luck with the day everyone.
