But I've decided to give it a go

The food is the sort of stuff I like to eat although I'll have to make some substitutes as I'm a vegetarian. But I love Bircher, porridge, all her snacks and salads etc

I'm starting tomorrow and wondered if anyone had some advice regarding the method or stories

Thanks!

Yes it is I'm weird (backs away slowly from thread head hung in shame!)

keiratwiceknightly · 06/05/2022 09:28

I've had a less good few days... been a bit under the weather and craving carbs. Need to get my head back in the game now I feel a bit better.

Well done to people with more will power than me!

ElvenDreamer · 06/05/2022 12:17

Last night I succumbed to some late night cheese (too much) and a piece of cake. This morning I was in actual pain which showed me why not eating like that as a general rule is good! I think that having been eating better my system reacted very strongly to me not taking care. Now sitting in a staff room with my trusty tupperware eating a salad, with no fork because I forgot to pack one, so using a chicory leaf as a scoop and trying to make it seem intentional. Happy Friday everyone!

Hallo @GloryLory Bonn kenne ich gar nicht, aber ich war laaaange her in Köln - tolle Stadt!

@Flopisfatteningbingforchristmas I know how difficult cooking for several kids with different requirements / tastes can be! I have a couple of book recommendations. There is a great one called The Good Stuff written by a nutritionist and she often suggests substitutes if you want to make something dairy / egg / gluten free etc etc. The River Cottage Baby and Toddler cookbook is similar - basically family friendly recipes despite the name.

The suggestion @GloryLory made is a good one - just serve things deconstructed. I often make soup and then give the kids additional bits to add - home made croutons, soup pasta, Parmesan, sliced sausage (it’s a German thing!) etc. Although at the moment I’m basically batch cooking things and eating something different. Somebody posted about not wanting to be seen to eat differently than the kids - I totally agree to this!

Thanks for the tips. I generally go for the approach of all us eat slightly different combinations of the same set of dishes.

GoodNutButters · 06/05/2022 17:36

Well I've had my first recipe fail - the chicken, chorizo and chickpea stew. I thought nothing could go wrong with those ingredients but it really wasn't very nice - watery and tasteless. Oh well! Possibly just something I was doing wrong. I'll stick to my other trusty chicken and chorizo recipes in future - some of them are low carb anyway.

On the bright side, I didn't eat very much of it so my portion was definitely delicate!

I'm going to try pancakes this weekend...

chloechloe · 06/05/2022 22:02

The last few days haven’t been too successful. Haven’t managed to exercise for 2 days as too busy. I’ll make sure I do sessions on Sat or Sun so I’m up to four in total. Tonight we spontaneously invited the kids and husband of a friend who is in hospital to dinner, so made pasta for a crowd. I only had a small portion with a pile of salad (and two small glasses of wine, oops). I have not touched the homemade cake our neighbors very kindly brought round.

I think I’m looking slimmer so hope that the tape measure will have budged by Monday.

HardRockOwl · 06/05/2022 22:44

@GoodNutButters ooh that doesn't sound like a nice recipe. Good to hear you've got some to fall back on though

OP posts:
HardRockOwl · 06/05/2022 22:47

@ElvenDreamer that doesn't sound pleasant. I think you're right that your system does get used to a healthier way of eating so when you have something sugary or carby, you end up paying for it. Hopefully you're feeling better now

Although I have been doing LP on this thread for 3 weeks, I ordered the 6 week plan and am now starting on week 1. This takes a very holistic & gentle approach, so I would say to all, “don’t beat yourself up.” You know where the circle is, try to get better & better at staying in it, and you will over time.
I am focusing on exercise now. I can do some of hers, but I add in my own which I know I can do, getting to 4 times a week is the challenge.
I can sometimes get hungry on this, but if I feel I need to eat something extra, I try to keep it LP, so a bowl of soup (rather than non-LP food)

Moanranger · 06/05/2022 22:53

Oh, and I would add, you all are my tribe!

NinetyNineRedBalloonsGoBy · 07/05/2022 08:28

Stepped out of the circle yesterday as I found myself feeling nauseous and craving salty white carbs, so I ate half a large bag of lentil crisps, a crumpet with honey, then found myself grazing on the kids tea so had a slice of pizza and a small glass of coke.

Then in the evening went to a friend's for dinner and she'd made a v beautiful lasagna with homemade focaccia followed by trifle Blush

I'm trying to talk to myself LP style as if I am sunburned so should "keep out of the sun" today (ie back on track) rather than fall into my old me fuck it attitude and start inhaling all the carbs. I'm worried it's going to take willpower I don't have, but OTOH I really don't want to see a gain on Monday weigh in Sad

please send me strength tribe!

KitchenFishCurry · 07/05/2022 09:04

I made the pizza chicken last night it wasn’t great very bland I’m not sure about her recipes to be honest. The lean in 6 weeks look nice but there doesn’t look like there’s a lot of flavour, maybe I’m too heavy handed with the herbs and spices.

Hello tribe! so I've continued with prep week and I've really been thinking about the pillars while binging in a ridiculous way on wine and crisps. Progress not perfection. I'm going to begin tomorrow and have diarised my exercise. I'm going to buy new trainers this afternoon as I've strange feet and I need to get properly fitted for the athlete I am going to be. Steps have been increasing this week. I've realised I need to really focus on my evening routine as I faff about far too much. I did the whole bath and bed thing this week and I think it really works for me. Need some nice new bath oil - can you see the shopping theme emerging here? Any suggestions for something lovely much appreciated. I'm also looking at my diary generally for the next 6 weeks and looking for the times when there's a lot on so it doesn't just land on me. That way of thinking feels like a revelation strangely!. I think a lot of the Fast 800 and Healthy Gut recipes are compatible with this so I'll probably use those a bit. I'm weirdly looking forward to this! I got weighed on Thursday and I couldn't believe it, 15 stone!! Things have got to change and it's always not having my head in the game that lets me down so I'm hoping this will really help me sort myself out. Not weighing again this coming Thursday but the following one with the idea that I use the time to concentrate on getting in the circle and not jumping on and off the scales all the time looking for a quick fix.

ElvenDreamer · 07/05/2022 10:37

@KitchenFishCurry was that the pizza chicken tray bake? We quite like that one here, may make a difference perhaps if you adjust seasoning more to your taste?
@Firsteatthefrog buy all the things, totally helps! I have acquired a ridiculous amount of beautiful running gear, and do you know what, it makes me smile and want to put it on and run. Good luck!

HardRockOwl · 07/05/2022 11:33

@Firsteatthefrog that all sounds super positive and like you're in the right mindset. That honestly is half the battle I've found. I 'think' and 'Hope' that I'll have lost 18 lbs by my 6 week weigh in on Monday. And although it doesn't look like much tbh, it's a lot better than staying the same or putting more weight in so all in all, I think good progress can be made when you stay as much in the circle ⭕️ as you can

OP posts:
HardRockOwl · 07/05/2022 11:34

@ElvenDreamer I literally can't buy myself any more things. Honestly, all I seem to do is treat myself.

But I think Louise say we absolutely must do this so what can you do?

OP posts:
HardRockOwl · 07/05/2022 11:36

@KitchenFishCurry im fascinated by the broccoli / porridge / frozen berries bowl! Is it nice?

I used to add grated cheese to bowls of muesli so no judgement here. Oh and crunchy but cornflakes with single cream instead of milk and maltesers. Not even embarrassed by that

HardRockOwl · 07/05/2022 11:42

Morning all

Started my day with porridge, Greek yogurt, strawberries and pumpkin seeds

1st snack has been mixed nuts with a pear

I'm going to make the Warm white miso & tofu salad for dinner - I've glazed past it before as doesn't really appeal to me but I'll give it a go.

Weigh in on Monday so I'm really going for it now. I'm very hopeful to have reached an 18 lb overall loss for this 6 week stint.

Alas, you don't get rid of me that easily as I need to do another round at least!

OP posts:
KitchenFishCurry · 07/05/2022 12:00

@HardRockOwl I can see it wouldn't be to everyone's taste but not much different to some smoothie recipes that add spinach and fruit. Some of the nutrients in broccoli get destroyed by heat so I like to eat it raw, I also add loads of spices it's a superfood cocktail in a bowl!

A bad thing happened this morning cracked an egg and it was green (the smell) so that's eggs off the menu for a long time and chicken after my disappointing dinner last night. That just leaves cheese and plants. Actually I could just live of cheese.

Yoga done maybe do a bit of weights in a bit and then tonight I have a 10K race.

I've decluttered my purse putting things like storecards on my phone getting ready for my new streamlined handbag, I seem to be buying new things as well.

HardRockOwl · 07/05/2022 12:06

@KitchenFishCurry ewww that would put me off eggs too tbh. I'm with you though - I could eat cheese all day long. I always used to eat huge chunks of Cornish cruncher with a box of ritz crackers

Wonder if that snack is on plan?

Omg what a huge difference cutting out sugar has made to my life. Who knew I was so associated. I feel like a completely different person

GoodNutButters · 07/05/2022 13:15

@clpsmum Me too. It's only been just over a week but I had some fresh strawberries this morning and they tasted absolutely amazing.

I actually think the six week book has the best recipes. In my experience so far, the breakfasts and some lunches are the best but for evening meals it's maybe a better idea just to adapt other recipes to cut out the carbs. For me, at least.

I'm only six days in but really energised and my maternity leggings are definitely feeling a bit looser!

blardyfeck · 07/05/2022 13:51

Can I please join?
I've put a stone on over the last year so really I've got 2 stone to lose. I
Started a new job in September and im quite an anxious person so it makes it all a bit stressful. I'm trying to spend more time focussing on me and being healthy.

In the past I've had success with low carbing but I can't seem to get on with it now. I'm 48 and I feel like it's now or never!
I'm only on day one but I'm loving it.

I'm a bit of an exercise dodger - does it matter?'

Hobbes8 · 07/05/2022 14:14

@KitchenFishCurry I don’t think it would be off plan to add a load of herbs and spices to make things less bland though - they never seem to have any calories on MFP. And loads have health benefits - turmeric is anti inflammatory for eg. LP doesn’t seem keen on a lot of salt but I guess as long as we drink lots of water with it we’d be OK. I had to put hot sauce on the tofu stir fry cos it didn’t taste of anything (then realised the hot sauce had sugar in - oops - should have just added chillis when I cooked it.

Back on plan today after a not particularly on plan Friday night. Strawberry Bircher for breakfast and just about to have Greek frittata for lunch.

Just bought an air fryer so need to figure out how to use that later, but will probably just do oven chips in it for the kids and have something LP-friendly for myself.

KitchenFishCurry · 07/05/2022 15:19

@Hobbes8 I use my air fryer to do potatoes . I mix olive oil with lots or herbs and spices , you can see a theme here , coat the raw chopped up potatoes and cook for 20 minutes much better than using the oven. It's also good for baking tofu once its been pressed and marinated
