But I've decided to give it a go

The food is the sort of stuff I like to eat although I'll have to make some substitutes as I'm a vegetarian. But I love Bircher, porridge, all her snacks and salads etc

I'm starting tomorrow and wondered if anyone had some advice regarding the method or stories

Thanks!

That's helpful @PrincessCarolyn. I'm on maternity leave and live in a small town where everything is either a short walk or a decent drive away. I think maybe I should plot out a rural walking route that takes about an hour and adopt it as a daily constitutional to do with the baby in the sling while the older one is at nursery or in bed (she would definitely moan about a walk that long).

HardRockOwl · 03/05/2022 11:13

Morning all

Hope you're all well

Today I must make a proper dinner! So that's my mission .. find something that appeals and get the ingredients.

I've started the day with porridge , strawberries, blueberries + raspberries with a tablespoon of peanut butter. About to consider a snack

Afternoon folks, my prep fell apart a bit today so I ran put of time to have breakfast, arrived in the school I teaching today without a snack so was ravenous by lunch time! I did however have my trusty Tupperware (Sorry Louise!) with a beluga lentil and goats cheese salad at least. Now waiting to pick up my kids and am starving, think it will have to be a relatively substantial afternoon snack or I will hit the evening still hungry and then all hope is lost quite frankly 😬 so I'm thinking oat cakes with maybe half a banana and some peanut butter. Evening meal is a rhubarb and mackerel dish. (I know it sounds weird but is actually nice, from one of my go to recipe books and all on plan.) Great links @HardRockOwl . Lovely to see you in here @GloryLory .

Exercise I'm always low on a Tuesday so this won't be a fab day for me but normally I find getting my steps I do fairly easily, even on 'at home' days. I do a lot of moving from room to room putting things away etc, that's where it actually pays to be disorganised for once!

Hobbes8 · 03/05/2022 15:25

I’m out and about today but luckily had leftover banana pancakes for breakfast (eaten out of Tupperware in my car in a traffic jam - sorry Louise!) and crunchy chicken salad for lunch.

Not sure about dinner - might try and make the salmon burgers.

Aching all over from doing weights, which means it must be working, right?

chloechloe · 03/05/2022 15:54

Hello everyone!

I think it really depends what device you’re using to track steps as to how accurate it is. I have an Oura ring and find it’s easy enough to do 10,000 steps even on days I don’t walk anywhere. I WFH but find that the time I spent running around the kids and tidying up the house actually gets me on target most days. If I don’t hit 10,000 each day, I certainly get to 70,000 by the end of the week.

For those disappointed about small weight losses (incl. me!) I think it’s important to remember that small losses are a lot more sustainable than quick ones (I hope!)

So how did you get on cooking @HardRockOwl ? I struggle to eat cold meals for lunch and dinner except in summer so invariably need to cook. I tend to double up recipes though so I have leftovers. I’m really impressed how you’ve made a career for yourself doing something you love.

I’m meeting friends for Vietnamese tonight so am debating what to eat that’s on plan. I’ll have to give the delicious noodle based dishes a miss.

NinetyNineRedBalloonsGoBy · 03/05/2022 16:56

Vietnamese food sounds delicious @chloechloe! I reckon you could have most of the menu minus the rice / noodles, like that lovely chicken & sesame & broccoli dish? Or the duck one? I'm hungry can you tell Blush

HardRockOwl · 03/05/2022 20:29

@chloechloe ugh I failed again! But tomorrow is another day, right?

Food times for today

Porridge with fruit + peanut butter

Watermelon + Parmesan chunks

Quinoa with whipped feta, quorn pieces, salad leaves, peppers, tahini dressing

Smoothie made with oat milk, banana, blueberries + protein powder

Oh and 2 babybels

Throwawaytoday · 03/05/2022 22:26

I've felt super hungry all day today, I haven't eaten badly, but I haven't been loving it (day 9).

B: oat cakes breakfast bar, not ideal, but speedy.

L: omelette (three eggs, feta, peas, herbs).

S: two slices of cheese (roughly equiv babybel).

D: griddled peach, mozzarella, balsamic dressing, slice of watermelon, slice of brown sour dough toast with butter and marmite.

Had an Ovaltine light this evening, as it's quite nice and comforting, though probably too sugary to be on plan.

I think because DH was in the office today, I didn't plan my own meals particularly well.

NinetyNineRedBalloonsGoBy · 04/05/2022 07:39

Hi @Throwawaytoday I had a hungry day yesterday which made me feel quite low and sad! Got back from work and ate an additional on plan snack (Babybel on toasted mini wholemeal pitta) and then my dinner, and felt loads better. Even had the energy to do a body pump class in the evening!

NinetyNineRedBalloonsGoBy · 04/05/2022 07:46

Menu today:

B: usual Greek yoghurt with nuts, seeds, raspberries

S: 2 Ryvita with ricotta, almond butter and sliced strawberries

L: low GI roll with ham, cheese, salad

S: yoghurt with cinnamon and orange

D: salmon baked with Boursin and a load of green veg

Firsteatthefrog · 04/05/2022 07:50

Hello all! Can I join you? I’ve got the books and I’m tinkering about with prep week at the moment. I’ve attempted so many diets! I had really good success with WW years ago but I’m now heavier than I’ve ever been, perimenopausal and felling rotten! Recent diet efforts have been Fast 800 - felt good on it but couldn’t sustain it- Caorie counting - very time consuming when cooking - and Healthy Gut Handbook - fairly similar to Louise but oh the chopping!!
My main difficulty though is getting my head in the game so I’m going to really give the pillars a go and I’m hoping you’ll all keep me accountable too. I weigh at a friend”s on Thursday morning. I’ve got somewhere between 3 and 4 stones to lose, preferably by this weekend. I suppose failing that it would be good to have a couple off by the time I go on holiday in August and the rest by Christmas.

KitchenFishCurry · 04/05/2022 07:56

Menu today
Breakfast soya bircher

Lunch bean and lentil salad, in lock n lock not tupperware but look away Louise if you're reading ( I also have plastic cutlery). The leftover mixture of beans and lentils is in the fridge in a glass container so not a total fail.

Dinner broccoli and butter bean soup (does not look like the photo in the book but tasted alright) with 2 monkey bread instead of snacks

Exercise will be 10K trail run with club tonight

According to myfitnesspal this only comes out at 1100 calorie

GloryLory · 04/05/2022 08:00

I really enjoy all that inspo for meals, especially Watermelon + Parmesan chunks sound so nice to me, i have to try it.

I lost 1 lbs/500 g, which is my first visible step in the right direction.
I was at my familys and of course there was not one single healthy or LPM confirmed ingredient, but i enjoyed it (we havnt seen each other for a long time bc of covid) and kept my portion small. I was quite satisfied, so i even skipped dinner.

Today will be a challenge, too. I will eat lunch with some friends and besides low carb salads they dont offer something LPM friendly. This will be quite hard for me to eat a salad when everyone else has chips and so on, but i made up my mind for it.
Is here anyone from germany/austria/switzerland? Then I've got a fabulous tip: The "this is food drinks" are sugarfree and really nice. split it in half and you have a really nice and simple snack on the go.

So mealplan today:

  • pineapple quark

  • 1 pear + nuts

  • lunch: hopefully a salad

  • leftover smoothie

  • lovely lentil bake in the evening.

Didnt walk my steps in this morning, but i will do this evening :)
Hope you all have a nice day! We can do this!

GloryLory · 04/05/2022 08:06

@Firsteatthefrog
Of course you are welcome here!
I really recommend NOT to skip the prep week and i think this will help you to ease into it.
Stocking up ingredients so that you can easily make a meal, write a list for the first few days and getting rid of things that really tempt you makes all the difference. You can also begin to reach for 10 k steps/day and try to think of sports that suit you.

Firsteatthefrog · 04/05/2022 08:09

Oh and despite Louise saying not to have a final blowout I drank a whole bottle of wine last night in anticipation of not being allowed any for 6 weeks and then woke up at 4:30 never to sleep again. I’m like a walking example of all Louise warns against.

MrsWateringcan · 04/05/2022 08:26

Hi ladies, I'd like to join you too (in fact I'm rejoining as I was on here near the start under a different name...never really got things started and had a load of Easter chocs to finish off 😁)

I'm approaching this in a fairly relaxed way as I don't want to eat a different evening meal to the rest of the family, but I am making breakfasts from the books and salady variations on the lunches. I've charged up my fitbit too! I want to lose around half a stone so I think that should be doable.

HardRockOwl · 04/05/2022 08:45

@Firsteatthefrog well, Louise DOES say to aim high and make your goals and dreams 30% bigger so I think 3 stone off by Saturday is ambitious but entirely doable 😜

I've also tried every diet there is and I know people say that but I really really have! All of them work - it's the sticking to them that is my undoing. But I'm in my last week of this plan and bizarrely I've not stepped out the circle once yet. So there could be something in it! Welcome to the thread

OP posts:
HardRockOwl · 04/05/2022 08:47

@GloryLory yeah, it's painful sitting there with a salad or whatever whilst everyone else tucks into chips. But won't be forever .. Louise says we need to work out what our 'worth its' are.

Trouble is, ALL of everything is worth it to me Grin

OP posts:
HardRockOwl · 04/05/2022 08:48

@Firsteatthefrog everyone has the big blow out before a diet. It's the law

@MrsWateringcan half a stone off sounds entirely doable. I'm looking forward to being down to my last half stone!

HardRockOwl · 04/05/2022 08:50

@NinetyNineRedBalloonsGoBy glad you're feeling better .. I sometimes have a hungry day and I think it's due to lack of protein or fat maybe. I just eat a little more and it always helps

Decided to do a sneaky weigh in.

I actually started the plan on a Wednesday but chose to weigh on a Monday for ease but I always do a little Wednesday weigh in because that truly marks another complete week on plan

So my actual 5 weeks weigh in results ... a total of 17 lbs off in 5 weeks.

Here's my menu of the day:

B: Crisp bread (seedy) and houmous.
S: Apple and peanut butter
L: Roasted spiced cauliflower + Greek yogurt
S: TBC - probably fruit and/or nuts.
D: blow out anniversary dinner, I'll spare you the details but it includes all sorts of white carbs and a pudding.

My general feeling is that I'll never stick to any healthy eating plan if I can't take an evening to celebrate something with rich food.

ElvenDreamer · 04/05/2022 11:24

@HardRockOwl you are right about a special occasion dinner, the whole point of this method is that it's a lifestyle not a diet right? Have a lovely evening 🙂
My menu today
Breakfast: yogurt, bran and blueberries
Snack: Almonds and fruit.
Lunch: beluga lentil and goats cheese salad (prepped 3 days worth of this earlier in week!)
Main meal: pizza chicken tray bake.
2nd snack: probably hard boiled eggs.
