Not going to be fat and 50!

MrsMigginsCat · 01/01/2022 21:09

Every year I say I'm going to do it, but this year I'm determined that I have to lose it. I've got my 50th birthday in May and a once in a lifetime trip in October. I don't want to be fat for either.

I've ordered a treadmill. I like walking, but don't like going out before or after work when it's dark so I thought this would get me back into being more active. Eating wise I'm going to follow Fast800 for a boost at the beginning. I'm the kind of dieter that needs to see results quickly otherwise I'm in danger of giving up so I'm hoping this will give me a decent loss at the start and spur me on.

Anyone want to join me in an accountability thread?

Hi, same here except I will be 55 in May! I have the Fast800 books and want to eat real food. I will weigh in the morning but I think I have 2 or 2.5 stone to lose. I feel crap overweight, small boned so I just look like a blob, tummy is rolls of fat. What about you, much to lose?

Off to bed now but will check back tomorrow.

MrsMigginsCat · 01/01/2022 23:41

At least 3 stone, probably more like 3.5. Too scared to get on the scales at the moment. I can't properly start until after next weekend as I have a long-planned meal out with friends (covid notwithstanding) and although the food itself will be reasonably healthy, the drink won't! I'm not quite in the mindset to stop alcohol until after then. I will though - have done dry January a few times now and can easily stop drinking if I want to.

My treadmill doesn't arrive until Friday either. This week coming, I just plan to ease myself in gently. Not eat anymore of the crap left over from Xmas and cook along Fast 800 lines until my proper start on 10th Jan.

I also need quick results at first or i think why am I not thin yet! After 72 hours of sacrifice!

I find the preparation that goes in to 800 cals hard. You end up revolving the entire day around shopping, washing chopping weighing.

But a total 36 hour fast is also hard. I would crack at 4pm. so i tweaked it.

Every second day I'd 'fast' to 4 ish then have 2 eggs and a baby bel and that does carry you through to the next day.

I wouldn't even wake up hungry.

Then you have a normal day every second day. High fat, low carb on your normal day.

The weight falls off. Lost about 16lbs in about 8 weeks.

Now I'm low carb to maintain........but not keto !

I do need to lose the last 7lbs so I might follow this advice myself after going to the shops today.

Sunshineandrainbow · 02/01/2022 10:27

Go for it.
I am 45 and need to lose 7 stone.
Never tried fasting so going to give it a go with a 6/8 hour eating window.
I have the fast 800 book somewhere so will drag it out.
Is the fast 800, 800 cals two days a week?

MrsMigginsCat · 02/01/2022 11:51

I've planned all my meals for this week and am going shopping tomorrow to buy everything I need.

DH and DS will have a Hello Fresh box delivered for their meals so they can sort themselves out and I won't be tempted by any rubbish they might otherwise eat.

Adding up the calories for the recipes I'm going to do come in at about 900 a day, but I think this should still give me a reasonable loss. Am quite looking forward to starting now. My downfall is failing to plan and then just grabbing something because it's quick.

RipWheeler · 02/01/2022 14:48

Sunshineandrainbow I am pretty sure Fast800 is 800 calories every day, the 5:2 is eat normally for 5 days and I think 500 calories for 2 days.

MrsMigginsCat again we are aligned Grin, 10th January proper start suits me too as teenagers back to school that day. I will start to clean up my act in the meantime.

gavisconismyfriend · 02/01/2022 15:18

Can I join please? 50 in March and have at least 6 stone to lose. Not expecting to lose it all by March! But would like to turn 51 at a healthy weight.

spagbog5 · 02/01/2022 15:54

I’m 50 in August and I’d like to join you please.
I need to loose 1.5-2 stone and massively tone up.
I’m back to work on Wednesday and plan to up my walking and use our treadmill every day and eat healthily.
We are having a fantastic holiday in July ( hopefully) and I’m aiming for then .
Good luck to us all x

Roominmyhouse · 02/01/2022 15:57

I’ll be joining you, I’m 40 in May. Ideally I need to lose about 3 stone but realistically I’d be happy with 1.5. The last 2 years I’ve been eating far too much chocolate and bread while WFH so am planning on reducing this and getting more exercise!

RipWheeler · 03/01/2022 11:08

I’ve weighed and need to lose 2 stone.

Had a dreadful nights sleep, my eldest has mock a levels next week and I had endless bad dreams I was back at school. Feel awful. Not a good start to the week.

Orangesandlemons77 · 03/01/2022 11:24

Can I join too please? Going to try and stick to 800 cals a day. I'm going to use some protein shakes to cut down on the prep etc. I'm 45 and have put on weight recently. Want to try and lose about 4 stone.

RipWheeler · 03/01/2022 11:59

I think that’s 8 of us now. Best of luck everyone.🍀

Theendisnow · 03/01/2022 12:23

I’m in. I’m looking to lose at least 6 stone. Going for 800 cals a day as I think I’ll be more motivated. I turn 40 this year and I cannot turn 40 this fat. It has now reached a point where I’m really uncomfortable.

cansu · 03/01/2022 12:30

Me too. I am going to do two days a week at 700 calories and then eat healthily and aim for 1500 calories on most other days. I have lost weight before on 5:2 fasting but then stopped caring and went back to my old ways. I have 3.5 stone as my target. I want to be a size 14 by summer!

dudsville · 03/01/2022 12:37

I was just looking for a thread! I've bought an exercise bike and a treadmill too. I've enjoyed myself over the holidays but have been careful. Today I made a soup of "ancient" grains, lentils and leftover leeks and brussel sprouts, and thankfully I do like these earnest kinds of meals.

I'm aiming to cycle 10 miles a day (in front of the tv!) and walk 10,000 steps a day. My weight gain is mostly a result of working from home and therefore being sedentry. The content of my diet is pretty good, my portions are too big. My fluid intake is healthy. So I'm hopeing to lose weight through this added exercise. I know my starting weight but I'm not going to weigh myself again until I can feel I've lost something as I know any disapointment with the daily or weekly check in would throw me off my course.

BeanAnTae · 03/01/2022 12:55

Slinking in at the back. Am fifty and need to shift some kilos...

LeeBowman · 03/01/2022 13:02

I'm going to try to form a habit of :

A brisk walk every morning within two hours of waking,

Leaving a 10 hour period over night of no eating, eg. last meal at 7pm, eat again at 7am.

Apparently both the above are good for general health and mood including helping to prevent type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases, weight regulation, etc. I'm (re)listening BBC Radio 4 "Just One Thing" every day for healthier lifestyle choices that are not onerous and can be habitual.

MrsMigginsCat · 03/01/2022 14:41

Hello new joiners!

I forgot to weigh myself this morning - doh!

So far today I've had:

Breakfast - porridge, grated apple, splash of oat milk, water and mixed spice, topped with a few flakes almonds. 297 calories

Lunch - but if a random selection of stuff, but it all needed using up. A jalapeño meat free burger, mushrooms, tomato, small amount of cheddar melted on the top and some celery. 418 calories

I'm not going to be able to do 800 calories today, but dinner will be chicken thigh tray bake with roasted onion, courgette, peppers and on the vine tomatoes. 410 calories.

Not going to lie though - I'm bloody starving! Just need to ignore it and stave if the hunger pangs with more sparkling water.

Can I join, please?
I’m turning 50 in November and have never been so fat!
I’m hoping to up the exercise and stop the random snacking.
I have 2 teenaged daughters so want to model healthy eating rather than strict dieting but am aiming to limit my calories by having smaller portions and a lot less carbs.

gavisconismyfriend · 03/01/2022 15:49

Have just started using Noom. Thought the additional accountability and switch in mindset might be helpful. It has set me a 1300 calorie limit but I’m going to try and sit under that as much as possible. Aiming to increase amount of water I drink too

NearlyAHoarder · 03/01/2022 19:41

How is noom different from WW orow carb?

TowandaForever · 03/01/2022 20:01

@gavisconismyfriend

Can I join please? 50 in March and have at least 6 stone to lose. Not expecting to lose it all by March! But would like to turn 51 at a healthy weight.
You could lose it all in your 50 th year which has a nice ring to it!

Good luck!

dudsville · 03/01/2022 20:59

Upthread someone mentioned eating in a 10 hr window so I had a Google this evening and I've decided to add this in to my plan! Perhaps with a few 8 hr window days.

gavisconismyfriend · 03/01/2022 21:51

@NearlyAHoarder - Noom looks at foods as being more or less calorie dense. So veg are less calorie dense cos you need to eat more of them to eat the same number of calories as you’d get from a high density food such as cheese. It divides foods into green, yellow and red based on calorific density and suggests the proportion of each group you should eat in a day. It is calorie counting but also tries to support you to make healthier choices.

@TowandaForever thank you! That’s what I’m aiming for. Smile

Tomhardyshadabath · 04/01/2022 00:02

Can I join? I'm 49 in October and want to lose 1 stone 9lbs to get down to 9 stone, my weight when I was 29. Ten months to lose 20 year weight gain, must be possible! Calorie counting (1200 a day), walking and I really need to up my water intake, which I really struggle with. I've lost and gained the same 4lbs periodically, for the last three years, so I need the motivation and accountability of posting here!
