Not going to be fat and 50!

MrsMigginsCat · 01/01/2022 21:09

Every year I say I'm going to do it, but this year I'm determined that I have to lose it. I've got my 50th birthday in May and a once in a lifetime trip in October. I don't want to be fat for either.

I've ordered a treadmill. I like walking, but don't like going out before or after work when it's dark so I thought this would get me back into being more active. Eating wise I'm going to follow Fast800 for a boost at the beginning. I'm the kind of dieter that needs to see results quickly otherwise I'm in danger of giving up so I'm hoping this will give me a decent loss at the start and spur me on.

Anyone want to join me in an accountability thread?

I would love to join, I am 47 and need to lose 4 stone but would be happy with 2 stone. I am looking for a diet that will give me some quick results to kick start me, then something more achievable long term.

FabNotFat · 04/01/2022 06:32

Can I join please ?

@MrsMigginsCat our situations are scarily similar even down to starting on 10th.
I will weigh in then and we can support each other .
I have a treadmill but had a knee injury last year so need to take it very easy.

We can do this

NOTANUM · 04/01/2022 06:41

Another one at 50 with 2 stone to lose signing in..

I did Second Nature which aims to reset your relationship with food and exercise and found it very good. It’s not a strict diet though so some won’t like it.

Hence I’m going to follow the same principles but without paying for the subscription again. Good luck to all!

MrsMigginsCat · 04/01/2022 07:44

@FabNotFat absolutely! The more the merrier and hopefully we'll all be able to spur each other along.

I've got up and am feeling mildly hungry but am going to try and push through until 9 before I eat breakfast. I do work from home so should be ok until then. Spiced plums and Greek yogurt this morning. Quite looking forward to something that isn't stodgy carbs.

Hello @NOTANUM - welcome to the 'Not fat at 500' club. We can do it!

I'm 50 next year and am starting today too. 5 stone to lose, I'm doing Team RH fitness app. It's calorie counting and exercise. I've been overweight since I was 30. Good luck ladies!

dudsville · 04/01/2022 08:07

Anyone struggling in particular from the effects of working from home? I'm toying with the idea of introducing a commute (morning walk and evening cycle). I think the morning walk might not be realistic but I think it would be a great way to start the day.

MrsMigginsCat · 04/01/2022 08:18

During the first lockdown I did Couch to 5k 3 or 4 times a week. I loved going out really early before the world woke up but it was April and lighter in the morning. I had to stop as I had a hysterectomy and I've not managed to get back into it since then.

A morning walk before work when it's lighter @dudsville might be nice - just need to give myself a kick up the bum to go! That's part of the reason why I've bought the treadmill. No excuse other than my own laziness to do some exercise. I'm planning on finding something on Netflix to watch and just plod away in front of it for 45 mins or so.

OP posts:
dudsville · 04/01/2022 08:29

I'm very much a fair weather exerciser, so I also have bought a treadmill @MrsMigginsCat! It hasn't arrived yet.
My first order got lost and I wanted to make sure I got the refund before ordering again. I have tried the c25 in the past but I'm not a runner. Google says 10,000 steps is about 1hr 40 min so I wonder about dividing that into a morning and evening commute in my office to music. I find the exercise bike in front of the TV in evening is working great (started 3 weeks ago) so I will keep that as my evening exercise.

Flapjak · 04/01/2022 08:36

52 would like to loose 2-3 stone. I need to cut out the sweet stuff, reduce carbs, plan on having one meal which is egg or chicken based and not eating after 6pm

dudsville · 04/01/2022 09:03

@Flapjak, I'm also planning for 6pm to be my cutoff. Then whether I do an 8, 9 or 10 window is decided by my first meal. I'm starting today. My partner will have an evening snack, and he is a feeder, but he's agreed to not hassle me!

Jocastafantastica1 · 04/01/2022 18:01

Hi can I join please? I'm going to be 50 in June and want to lose 2 stone by then, I will not be fat and 50! I'm doing the fast800 keto plan, this is day 1 for me.

BreezedriftingOnBy · 04/01/2022 18:11

I'm in!! 50 this year. 3 stone to lose to get somewhere near a healthy weight. Plan is to do more exercise and not eat loads of crap every day. Stressful job x Covid have led to really terrible eating habits that for my current and future health I need to change. Toying with the 5:2, need convincing it won't be massive amounts of prep though and leave me obsessing over what I can eat/ drink next!

MrsMigginsCat · 04/01/2022 18:15

Made it through another day! Have staved off the hunger by drinking sparkling water and cups of Pukka tea that I had in a selection box for. Christmas. Just had a dinner of lamb, harissa, chickpea and courgette stew which was delicious. Am feeling pretty full now. I usually get the munchies at about 7.30 so am going to have a lovely wallow in the bath to distract myself from food.

How has everyone else done today?

Hello everyone

I'm 56 with 5-6 kilos to lose. Doing Fast800 Which works really well and the food is lovely.

Got to target weight last year but then got covid and was ill for 6 months, no exercise, eating and lying around, hence the gain. My aim: to fit in my clothes without straining.

Good luck everyone Smile

MrsMigginsCat · 04/01/2022 18:45

Welcome @catwomandoo

Once I start properly next week, I'm intending to give Fast800 a go too. I need to see quick results to start with otherwise I'm in danger of giving up. I've heard lots of positive things about it and am in a Fast800 FB group where loads of people have lost a significant amount of weight.

gavisconismyfriend · 04/01/2022 18:46

Did a short walk today which is a start on “moving more” One and a half glasses to go and I’ll meet my water target. Have eaten well today but but concerned about getting slightly too obsessed - need to find a bit of balance so that I don’t go all out for a few weeks and then crash and burn!

itstrue · 04/01/2022 18:50

I'm in too! I'm 47 with some big plans when I turn 50 which can't happen if I'm still fat!

I'm doing Team RH and I'm 14 kilos down with another 20 to go.

TellMeAboutItStud · 04/01/2022 18:51

Can I join? 35 and need to lose 3 stone of baby weight (baby is now six months and zero progress has been made thanks to a love of chocolate and crisps and obviously zero self-control!) I eat fairly healthily during the day but think portion control is my downfall and I also end up snacking mindlessly in the evenings once the kids are in bed - I’m good all day and then crack between 8-10pm! I don’t exercise either, mostly I tell myself it’s lack of time but actually I have an exercise bike and aerobics step and could fit in a workout during the baby’s afternoon nap, so I need to stop with the excuses!

Aiming to lost most of it by the end of mat leave in June…

Larabelle6 · 04/01/2022 19:17

@Orangesandlemons77 which shakes do you recommend? I’m constantly thinking about what to have for tea (try to low carb but can be a bit picky) shakes would be perfect for me Smile

MrsMigginsCat · 04/01/2022 19:18

14kg already lost is fantastic @itstrue! I've seen Team RH in FB but not sure what it entails.

My 3 stone is still baby weight too @TellMeAboutItStud which wouldn't be so bad if the youngest baby wasn't 22!

Me too, me too! I'm turning 50 in July and weighed myself on Jan 1st to find I'm at my heaviest ever weight Shock. I have at least 3 stone to lose. I don't bloody recognise myself in the mirror Angry

My plan will include: cutting out snacks/junk and limiting bread to one small portion a day; upping my water intake and restarting exercise classes. Also, I'm giving up booze until Valentine's Day.

Good luck to everyone here. It's really quite comforting and definitely helpful to read all your comments.

Gintime74 · 04/01/2022 23:39

I’m going to do the human being diet reset, it’s the only thing that has worked for me but I lost my way.I need will power to keep it up.
Basically, 3 meals a day, 5 hours apart, last meal to finish by 9pm. 3.5 L of water, no milk, sugar or grain, one treat meal a week.
My biggest challenge is my love of white wine! And also I need to prep in advance. I was going to start today but didn’t due to lack of prep so will start to get into it now but strict from Monday !

chalkyc2 · 05/01/2022 07:29

Morning - joining you all! I lost 25 kg over the last year on F800 - am 49 this year and need to lose the next 25kg ahead of being 50 in 2023! First tackling the 5 kg Xmas gain. I'm under no illusion that this is going to be easy...but have renewed determination.

I also seem to have acquired gallstones along the way so am having to be particularly careful about too much full fat dairy/red meat. Going for a pretty basic/plain plan of chia porridge /soup /fish and veggies plan. I have access to the online plan and find it helpful for meal planning and ocado order. I'm not great at time restricted eating at all - makes me feel rubbish and our work and kids activities often mean we eat later than is ideal. Just have to go with it.

Will weigh in on Mondays.

Orangesandlemons77 · 05/01/2022 18:03

Larabelle you might like the Purition shakes as they are low carb. I use them and some ones from Exante as well.
