Not going to be fat and 50!

MrsMigginsCat · 01/01/2022 21:09

Every year I say I'm going to do it, but this year I'm determined that I have to lose it. I've got my 50th birthday in May and a once in a lifetime trip in October. I don't want to be fat for either.

I've ordered a treadmill. I like walking, but don't like going out before or after work when it's dark so I thought this would get me back into being more active. Eating wise I'm going to follow Fast800 for a boost at the beginning. I'm the kind of dieter that needs to see results quickly otherwise I'm in danger of giving up so I'm hoping this will give me a decent loss at the start and spur me on.

Anyone want to join me in an accountability thread?

@Jocastafantastica1 are you a Jocasta? Because I am too!

dudsville · 10/01/2022 20:17

I'm glad to hear you got your treadmill @mrsmigginscat! This was my first day back at work. I managed the 16:8 just fine and I haven't been snacking, just eating good meals, so I was glad I was able to continue that today. The exercise was harder to fit in and I only managed 7 miles on the bike and 2 on the treadmill but I pushed hard to make it more of a workout. I think my legs are shaping up a bit, though that might be wishful thinking.

I read on the 16:8 thread that liquids outside that time need to be sugar free, so I've returned to having black coffee, and I have a big glass of wine at 5 if I want one.

I'm envious of the weight loss some of you are getting. Mine will be slow, but I'm committed. I will be gutted if I don't see any shift at the end of the month though!

Roominmyhouse · 10/01/2022 20:18

Had a good day today. Breakfast off porridge with a bit of the leftover Christmas cranberry sauce in, lunch was houmous with carrot/cucumber sticks, a flatbread and apple. Mid afternoon snack of a muller light and a small piece of fudge. Dinner was leftover chicken made into risotto with peas. Had a bowl of pomegranate, raspberries, strawberries and blueberries after. Drinks only tea or water.

Coming in about 1400 calories and much better portion control. First PT session done and measurements and before pics taken. Really got to keep this mindset going!

shamoola · 10/01/2022 20:35

@itstrue they are stored on their side (hidden in the cupboard!) I'll have to change that.

Anyone tried the new cherry 🍒 flavoured Jaffa Cakes. Taste a bit like a black forest gateaux! Doesn't beat the original but still only 46 calories a biscuit.

I wish I was, but I've only adopted for Mumsnet purposes Smile

Good morning .
Day 1 for me today . I am back at work and need to get some weight off .
Hopefully on holiday in a few weeks so aiming for a stone at least by then .

MrsMigginsCat · 11/01/2022 16:40

Welcome @FabNotFat How has today gone?

I've got a raging headache, not Covid thankfully, but I think it's carb withdrawal as I've cut them right down. Have drunk lots of water but it's not budging.

dudsville · 11/01/2022 17:49

Sorry to hear about the carb withdrawals!

I managed the 10mile cycle and 5 mile walk today. I know I won't be able to keep this up but while I can I will. Also managed the 16:8 again. I was starving at 10:30, but I was in meeting from 8 to 10.30 so I had no choice if I wanted to keep to the 8 hr window. It was manageable.

MrsMigginsCat · 11/01/2022 20:46

That's amazing dudsville. I managed a paltry 8500 steps today, but food was good at 850 calories. Dinner was a lentil and coconut curry with roasted cauliflower and sweet potato which was yum. I've got a portion to take to the office tomorrow for lunch and hopefully it will be filling enough so I'm not tempted to eat any of the leftover Christmas treats.

Roominmyhouse · 11/01/2022 21:48

8500 steps is still good. Don’t get too hung up on it, some days you’ll do more and some less.

Another good day today, breakfast and lunch same as yesterday. Snacks of 2 mini babybel light, and a muller light. Dinner was a piece of lasagne and a load of salad with fruit for dessert. Slightly higher calories today at around 1500 but I did a 1hr15 exercise class and burnt over 700 calories according to my Fitbit.

catwomando · 12/01/2022 15:55

Hello everyone. Good to see the solidarity and determination continues Grin

I'm down a kilo since I started. Have decided that I'm going to do a 24 hour fast, starting after dinner tonight. An attempt to kick start the weight loss and giving my immune system a boost.

Game on!

Orangesandlemons77 · 12/01/2022 16:48

Going quite well today. Went swimming for an hour this morning. Hoping to keep this up. Was quite cold out which can put me off but it was worth it as feel better afterwards as well as burning off some calories!

MrsMigginsCat · 12/01/2022 18:59

Nowhere near my step goal today as been in the office. Might do a quick 2000 on the treadmill to get to 7k though.

Foodwise, I had pear and cinnamon porridge for breakfast which I took to work and ate there. Lunch was leftover lentil and coconut curry cauliflower rice and for dinner I've made a pesto chicken and veg traybake. Calories just over 1000.

Another good day for me food wise. No exercise tonight but have pilates tomorrow. Breakfast and lunch same as Monday and yesterday, dinner was bean chilli quesadillas.

First weigh in day tomorrow!

nancake · 12/01/2022 19:40

Would love to loss 2 &1/2 st wot is fast800

catwomando · 13/01/2022 07:41

@nancake

Fast800 is an approach to eating where you
-eat 800 calories in a day

  • do this for 7 days a week for anything from 2-12 weeks
  • can be combined with 5:2 where you do the low cal thing for only 2 days a week (but this is recommended only after an initial blast of weight loss)
  • can be combined with 16:8 which means you only eat in that 8 hour window. This stimulates the immune system and combats ageing by kickstarting cellular regeneration (lots of science behind it)

There are books as well that explain it and are easy to read. The books have good, well balanced recipes in them too, with proper food and none of that low fat malarkey.

It really works and you feel pretty good on it. And you can have blasts of it every months once at goal weight to keep you in check and healthy.

HTH

Roominmyhouse · 13/01/2022 12:04

Weighed in this morning. 1.4lbs down since last Thursday. Was hoping for more but have really only been on it good wise since Monday. If I lost that every week it’s be nearly 2 stone by my birthday which I’d be very happy with!

fatpord · 13/01/2022 13:20

A bit late to the table but can I join please?
Also a bit late to not be fat at 50. I’m all ready there with a few years extra
Could stand to lose 2 stone
My problem is I hate exercise. Loathe it. With my sedentary work from home job too the result is …. Well 2 stone of belly fat!
I’m trying the therapeutic fasting thing - Buchinger amplius method.
How do you stop the exercise boredom? I’ve done the couch to 5k. Hated every minute of it. Even Fast Exercise takes too much effort. I’ve got a cross trainer now which I have to force myself on to. I try 20 mins 3 times a week but the reward never seems to be worth the effort. The self satisfaction only lasts about 20 mins too lol

dudsville · 13/01/2022 17:06

Just logging on. Yesterday I cycled 8 Miles, unfortunately I was just over a mile into my walk when I came off the treadmill in dramatic fashion. I have some very stiff muscles so I'm not doing any exercise today. I think it's good to rest the muscles but also I do my exercises most days so taking a day out should be OK. Today I've written a pair of trousers so day that we're uncomfortably tight before I began this journey, so that's good, but these used to be my big trousers, so I know I still have some way to go! Managing the 16:8 still just fine - that's been write an eye opener!

dudsville · 13/01/2022 17:07

Sorry for the typos, hopefully it makes sense!

Roominmyhouse · 13/01/2022 17:08

@fatpord you have to find an exercise you can enjoy or at least tolerate! I hate running so that would do nothing for me. I do outdoor classes and I think the social/group side of it helps keep me going with it. I also do Pilates which again is a lovely group of people. I find it being nice people helps as I feel I’m letting them down if I don’t go! 😆

ANameChangeAgain · 13/01/2022 17:15

I'm in. I'm cutting out the habitual snacking that I do whilst making dinner, and the little bits of chocolate I pick up from the shop 2/3 times a week. I'm reducing my carbs too. Hopefully it'll work out as more of a life long change than a diet.

Orangesandlemons77 · 13/01/2022 18:56

YY to finding something you like. I swim, try and see that as relaxation time / me time. I do feel better afterwards, more relaxed and less stressed. I did an hour today and yesterday, going to try and keep this up.

MrsMigginsCat · 13/01/2022 20:51

Evening folks. I'm finding 800 calories hard going. I'm easily able to do 1000 give or take 50 a day so think I'm going to go with that. Hopefully I should still lose. My Fitbit tells me I burn around 1900 calories a day if I just do my normal stuff. Exercise increases that. Even if my Fitbit is 10-15% too generous that's still a deficit.

Today I had apple and cinnamon porridge for breakfast, leftover pesto chicken and roasted veg for lunch and Mexican bean stew for dinner. All washed down with loads of water and assorted Pukka teas from my Christmas selection box.

I have an unplanned tricky weekend coming up though. Going to see DD and we have two meals out planned. One is an Argentine Steak place so think I can probably find something salady or meat and veg there. The other is going to be whatever we can find. DD wants to go to a Japanese place so I think that should be reasonably ok. Just need to not drink too much
