Not going to be fat and 50!

Every year I say I'm going to do it, but this year I'm determined that I have to lose it. I've got my 50th birthday in May and a once in a lifetime trip in October. I don't want to be fat for either.

I've ordered a treadmill. I like walking, but don't like going out before or after work when it's dark so I thought this would get me back into being more active. Eating wise I'm going to follow Fast800 for a boost at the beginning. I'm the kind of dieter that needs to see results quickly otherwise I'm in danger of giving up so I'm hoping this will give me a decent loss at the start and spur me on.

Anyone want to join me in an accountability thread?

Hope everyone is doing well!

I’m still chugging away at the weight loss. Down 12lbs with only 8 weeks until my 40th. I’m 13st6 so would love to be under 13st by then. It’s slowly coming off but what I’m doing definitely feels sustainable in the long run.

dudsville · 06/04/2022 21:09

That's a great achievement @Roominmyhouse! Fingers crossed for your remaining 8 weeks. I can't remember, what approach are you taking?

Roominmyhouse · 06/04/2022 21:19

@dudsville thanks! I’m just calorie counting, trying to stay under 1500 a day.

dudsville · 06/04/2022 21:25

That's heartening to hear as it's the approach I aim to be using. I've also just been reading a thread devoted to calorie counting looking for inspiration. I think I just need to be clearer with myself that I'm eating too many calories. I managed it today just fine. And I've got a treat lined up for tomorrow's calories to help motivate me.

frosties24 · 07/04/2022 00:53

Well done @Roominmyhouse!
I think my elusive motivation has returned today 🤞☺️

frosties24 · 07/04/2022 00:54

👍🏻☺️*@dudsville* - we’re still here 🤩

I’ve managed to find a good balance where I don’t feel too deprived and am allowed treats still. Just been out for dinner and had duck spring rolls, aubergine stir fry and rice and 2 Reece’s peanut butter cups! But I’ve been extra good the last few days and will have less tomorrow. Trying to maintain this balance when I want to eat all the good things!
shamoola · 13/04/2022 22:42

How are we doing? I'm struggling a bit at the moment with sweet treats creeping back in. Exercise wise I'm fine, cut out/down the wine but I find myself wanting biscuits and pudding. Once you have even a little bit of sugar you want more.

Rather than go cold turkey, which I don't think is sustainable I'm trying to be a bit more mindful and really question myself as to whether I want that biscuit, or delay having it or ask myself how I would feel if I didn't have it at all.

Someone needs to invent calorie free biscuits!

unicornsarereal72 · 14/04/2022 11:21

@shamoola sorry to hear you are struggling. I'm currently sat looking at 12 Easter eggs. I'm the same if I have a bit I want more. I had some chocolate the other day and it wasn't even very nice. I ate it though and realised afterwards I rally didn't need too.

I think the key is to not be denied anything but go for things that are portioned controlled.

Don't think there are any magic answers though.

dudsville · 15/04/2022 13:02

Hi @shamoola, I think Easter can be just as hard as christmas!

I've had to step back. I felt like I was starting to undermine myself. After a lot of hard work I was finally bang on 12st, a little push would have got me under it and that would have been such a boost to my morale... instead I stopped trying at that point. I then kept trying to remotivate msyelf, "this week", then "tomorrow", putting promises on here that I then didn't keep, etc.

Having had some time away I am feeling better about the whole project. I am still committed to the long term goal. I may not make 11st by my birthday but I will make it by the end of the year. This past week I got some dresses out of storage (back of the wardrobe!) that I want to be able to wear this year. I can get them on, but they would look better a little looser. I've invited a friend to go for a long walk with me tomorrow. I'm going to have to take this next 14 pounds odat. I once bloomed up a couple of stone after a health issue and it naturaly fell away over time without hard core dieting and by just eating and moving about normally. I have put some good new habits in place since starting this journey mid december, I learned a lot about calories and what i need to eat to maintain and lose, and I have lost 12 pounds and I have time to reach my goal, but I might stop the daily tracking because of the emotional highs and lows of it all.

frosties24 · 15/04/2022 15:06

Hi all, @shamoola*@unicornsarereal72 @dudsville* I agree wholeheartedly, moderation and being kind to ourselves is key. Your post above dudsville articulated just how I feel, v wise. Enjoy the holiday everyone

unicornsarereal72 · 23/04/2022 21:59

Evening all. How did everyone fare or is it fair? over the Easter break. I have 12 Easter eggs in the house. 🥚

End of the ester break and out week away. So back to eating better which I'm strangely looking forward too

And back to running in the morning. After six week break. Fingers crossed I'm not left behind.

Roominmyhouse · 25/04/2022 14:00

The last 2 weeks were a bit off plan! Gained about 2lb but back on it now and got 5 weeks to lose 7lbs so need to be super good. Wish me luck!

unicornsarereal72 · 26/04/2022 13:25

@Roominmyhouse I'm in for five weeks of being accountable. Takes me to half term so 7lb by then would be fabulous. Anything downwards will be a good thing. My summer clothes are all ready waiting for me 😀

shamoola · 26/04/2022 18:17

@Roominmyhouse and @unicornsarereal72 come on we can do it. Hoo ha! I've got about 5-6lbs to get to my goal weight and I've lost all motivation.

Half term is a great target. Just in time for the warmer weather.

Roominmyhouse · 26/04/2022 20:26

@unicornsarereal72 @shamoola half term takes us right up to my 40th birthday so yes definitely in for 5 weeks of being accountable and trying to shift 7lbs!

unicornsarereal72 · 26/04/2022 20:31

Yay. Good to have short term goal. @shamoola that is fantastic you are nearly where you want to be. I'm booked for a run tomorrow evening and swimming with the kids at the weekend.

shamoola · 26/04/2022 20:44

@unicornsarereal72 I know they say that exercise is such a small part of weight loss but for me it really sets the tone and I want to fuel myself well in order to be able to get faster/fitter.

I think making time for exercise is also about self love and spending time on myself. I find it so good for the mind.

Do you have any running goals? I have in the past run all sorts distances but currently it's about getting my 5k time down. Which I actually think I'm finding tougher then just running further. Running hard for 25mins or whatever - hurts!

unicornsarereal72 · 26/04/2022 20:54

@shamoola I am new to running. I joined a ladies running group they do between 4/5km in half an hour Twice. Week. I started in the new year and was just getting to the point I could run 90% of the run. Then I broke a rib. So haven't been for six weeks. My plan is to get to the point I can run the whole time. Then work toward the 5k. I'm between 4 and 4.5 before ribgate. I find it keeps my eating focused and good for my mental health. So really hope I can stick with it. And maybe do the park run at weekend further down the line.

frosties24 · 28/04/2022 11:47

@shamoola @Roominmyhouse @unicornsarereal72 thanks for the latest motivation posts. Getting back to it after a break (Easter hols) 👍🏻💪🏼

unicornsarereal72 · 28/04/2022 19:38

Someone kick me. Just finished off an Easter egg. 🥲

Done so well for last 5/6 days. But hadn't organised anything for tea. Kids brought random friend home so gave them nuggets and We ate Easter eggs.

Hey ho. Back to it tomorrow.

In other news I went running yesterday and managed 30 mins with a very small amount of walking. Maybe balance out the egg 🤷‍♀️

Roominmyhouse · 29/04/2022 13:44

Kicks @unicornsarereal72 😉

Weighed in this morning. Have now lost 13lbs since January. 4.8lbs to shift before the end of May!

unicornsarereal72 · 01/05/2022 15:07

@Roominmyhouse that is fantastic news. Last few pounds are always the worst to shift. But any progress is good progress.

After my Easter egg incident I have managed to stay on track still just going day by day. Another 5lb and I will of lost 2 stone. Which I feel more comfortable at. But health bmi is another stone or so. But it is going the right way.

unicornsarereal72 · 11/05/2022 18:10

How we all doing @Roominmyhouse @frosties24 @shamoola @dudsville
