Not going to be fat and 50!

MrsMigginsCat · 01/01/2022 21:09

Every year I say I'm going to do it, but this year I'm determined that I have to lose it. I've got my 50th birthday in May and a once in a lifetime trip in October. I don't want to be fat for either.

I've ordered a treadmill. I like walking, but don't like going out before or after work when it's dark so I thought this would get me back into being more active. Eating wise I'm going to follow Fast800 for a boost at the beginning. I'm the kind of dieter that needs to see results quickly otherwise I'm in danger of giving up so I'm hoping this will give me a decent loss at the start and spur me on.

Anyone want to join me in an accountability thread?

omg I'm so tired! I did my 10,000 steps and 10 miles on the bike and am struggling to stay awake. I lunched late at 2.30, after all the exercise, and I'm still full, and just so tired. I may miss dinner as I can't see how I'll be hungry within the next hour.

Crazycrazylady · 07/01/2022 17:05

Hi ladies

I might join ye. On day 3 of fast 800 which I've done before with good results. Gained half a stone over Xmas which I'd like off but ideally could lose 1 stone and I wouldn't be too thin.
Hangry today which reminds me of the first time I did this: I know it only lasts a day or two so need to get over it and I find by week 2 I don't even miss it.. think it's just going from one extreme.of eating my body weight in carbs to eating relatively fewShock
I skip breakfast and aim for 800
Calories over two meals which normally works well for me so it's a combination of 16.8 and fast 800!

dudsville · 07/01/2022 20:30

I ate a little late, finishing at 6 30. I'm OK with that. I'm just trying to set new trends but ultimately I would be flexible so I don't see the 30 min as a big deal. I can't believe how exhausted I was from the exercise. I'll be curious to see if I get used to it.

@eightytwenty, do you have any cheat days in your plan? It's hard to stick to a strict plan day in day out.

Roominmyhouse · 08/01/2022 16:47

We ate out and had beer last night. But today I’m on plan. Poached eggs on toast for breakfast, tuna and cucumber bagel thin for lunch. Will have steak, loads of salad and a few chips for dinner and fruit/yoghurt for dessert. I’ve had plenty of water.

I’ve also meal planned for this week and ordered Gousto for the next month as they sent me a discount code and I had a £20 for referring a friend too. That helps with the portion size and calorie counting for my dinners.

dudsville · 08/01/2022 19:29

Today I had an eating window of 10.30 to 6.30. I did both my 5 mile walk and my 10 mile cycle and again I struggled with extreme exhaustion. I have one more day at this pace, which I've done just over the holidays to get me to a base line habit/fitness and to cement my intentions, but when I return to work Monday I will ease off a bit and I'm looking forward to that!

So I'm planning to do 2.5 miles (takes 35min so far) in the morning, and then another 2.5 mikes again at some point during the day, as a daily routine. Then the cycling will be in front of the TV of an evening, but I think I will not push myself to do that every day, or perhaps keep it regular but not so far, will see what's practical. But I'm so proud of how I've used this break and am feeling really motivated.

Puddletown · 08/01/2022 21:30

This thread is really motivational. I move house in May and don't want to move all my 'fat' clothes that I don't even really like but own because they fit.
I am 5'2 and 13 stone exactly. I am never going to get to the recommended healthy weight for my height but would love to be hurtling towards 10 stone by the time I move.

MondeoFan · 08/01/2022 21:37

I'm 50 in June. I don't want to be fat and 50 either!
The weight has crept up on me. I think I'm Pre menopausal so don't think that's helping as I'm not eating any more than I normally would, infact I'm eating a bit less. Think I need to up my exercise. I do love walking and have a dog

Meltedwellie · 08/01/2022 23:09

I'm 50 in 2022 as well. Fat and fifty isn't what I want to be. Got about 3 stone to lose. Apart from how I look the health implications are a big issue too. Not at the moment but looking to prevent serious issues as I get older. I've lost both my parents and find that anxiety from that causes me to eat crap. I'm scared to weigh myself but I'd guess 12 1/2 to 13 st

MrsMigginsCat · 09/01/2022 13:50

Had half a day off yesterday as we went out for a belated Christmas lunch with friends. Whilst the food wasn't too bad, chicken, fish and a small pud, the alcohol was most definitely not on plan!

Back to it today. Breakfast was scrambled eggs, mushrooms and spinach. I'm skipping lunch and will have a 600 calorie Hello Fresh meal for dinner.

@Mrsmiggins, is there any room in your plan for these one off festive meet ups? It's sounds lovely and not anything to regret!

I managed my 5m walk and 10m cycle (easier because of an exercise bike and treadmill) and am not exhausted, finally! I'm so thrilled. I'm so tempted to weigh myself. From doing nothing, 26 days ago I got my bike and started 10m a day. I've taken a few days off here and there but it still averages at 8.65 miles a day for that period. I'm so proud of myself! I know I've built muscle, and I feel fitter, I've only being doing the treadmill for 3 days. I was so scared of it and the dramatic leaping off I do when I freak out of the remote doesn't work immediately is I'm sure a very funny sight, and having also folded in the 16:8, I just doubt I've shifted any pounds yet. Maybe I'll take a peek on the scaleat the end of the month. How often are you all checking?

dudsville · 09/01/2022 16:13

What a lovely size group we have too, hi to everyone!

gavisconismyfriend · 09/01/2022 16:33

@dudsville - well done on the cycling! What bike do you have and are you using an app or just doing a distance cycle independently? I’m weighing daily - using Noom and that’s what it recommends.

dudsville · 09/01/2022 17:13

Thank you @gavisconismyfriend, I'm "banking" the good feelings to help me as I go forward now with the return to work life. It was an "ultrasport" from Amazon for £121. Nothing fancy about it, so no app, I'm watching things on the tely or listening to an audio book while it counts my mileage. But it was easy to put together and doesn't take up much space and I felt it wouldn't be a big loss financially if I stop using it. It can collapse for storage, but like others here I'm looking at a significant birthday this year so I hope to keep it active for a while.

Roominmyhouse · 09/01/2022 20:11

@dudsville 10 miles a day is excellent!

I’ve been relatively good on the food today but had my parents over for dinner so ended up having a few glasses of Prosecco and dessert. But we did go for a 5 mile walk before they came.

Nearly all the chocolate in the house is gone and isn’t being replaced. First PT session tomorrow night!

MrsMigginsCat · 09/01/2022 20:41

I'm weighing once a week. If I get on and see no loss or even a small gain then I get really disheartened.

In other news, my treadmill arrived and DH put it together this afternoon so tomorrow mission "MrsMiggins gets slim AND fit" starts!

I weigh everyday but I use an app that calculates a weekly average

Jocastafantastica1 · 10/01/2022 09:02

So first week completed on fast800 with only one fall off the wagon (last night I hoovered up 3 pieces of Red Leicester and a packet of hoola hoops). I've been running 3 times (I'm on week 6 of 025K) and I have lost 7.2lbs Smile I did put 4lb on over Xmas but even so I'm pleased it's a great start. How is everyone else doing?

Roominmyhouse · 10/01/2022 13:59

@Jocastafantastica1thats amazing! My first weigh in is Thursday. Will be happy to just lose anything 😆

shamoola · 10/01/2022 17:13

Hello all! I'm another one turning 50 this year.

About this time last year I realised that my crisp/chocolate and snacking habit had got out of hand - and clothes were feeling decidedly tighter.

I went cold turkey on the junk, and ate smaller portions. So far lost about a stone need to lose about another half before I'm comfortable.

I also increased the exercise - ran 9 miles yesterday.

But this final push is hard - it's also boring! So I'm here to keep me on track 👋👋

Anyone find the scales vary widely each day - it's never the same, swinging 2-5 lbs each time I step on the scales. I say the true weight is the lowest one 😉

Orangesandlemons77 · 10/01/2022 18:16

I'm using Exante for the protein shakes and having three a day along with a Purition one as well for the extra 200 cals

If anyone wants to try it I have a discount code which is SARAH-RHPZ you can use this alongside other discount codes (there are plenty if you google Exante and codes).

MrsMigginsCat · 10/01/2022 19:45

That is most definitely true! My scales told me I'd put on weight this morning which was a bit disappointing so I'm only going to weigh once a week, maybe every 10 days.

I've come in just under 800 calories today. Had breakfast of scrambled eggs, mushrooms and spinach at 12 and dinner of chicken thighs with peppers, onions and spicy sauce with a huge salad at 6. Today is the first day I've not been hungry despite only eating two meals.

I've also done 10k steps on my treadmill. Was a quiet one at work today so managed to squeeze in the odd 2k here and there. Will try the same tomorrow. I have to go to the office on Weds and Thurs and walking options are very limited so might have to just have a shorter stroll when I get home.

Are you storing your scales on their side? I've heard that can happen if you do
