Not going to be fat and 50!

MrsMigginsCat · 01/01/2022 21:09

Every year I say I'm going to do it, but this year I'm determined that I have to lose it. I've got my 50th birthday in May and a once in a lifetime trip in October. I don't want to be fat for either.

I've ordered a treadmill. I like walking, but don't like going out before or after work when it's dark so I thought this would get me back into being more active. Eating wise I'm going to follow Fast800 for a boost at the beginning. I'm the kind of dieter that needs to see results quickly otherwise I'm in danger of giving up so I'm hoping this will give me a decent loss at the start and spur me on.

Anyone want to join me in an accountability thread?

@Eightytwenty I would recommend cycling (in the gym or outside) and using a cross trainer in the gym. Both low impact.

Big mistake yesterday - went to the supermarket when hungry. All sorts of things ended up in my trolley that shouldn't have been there!

I've had two days away from exercise to heal up. I'm looking forward to returning to it tomorrow. I've continued the 16:8. I must say I actually love these exercises and the 16:8. I really expect a result from this, and I'm really pleased that I'm no longer bothered about food. I do get hungry by breakfast time at 10/10:30, but I have come to like that feeling as a sign that I've stopped over eating. Then sometimes I only have another meal at 3ish. I think my portions are a little smaller too. I was making rice this afternoon and thought I couldn't actually eat the portion I would normally make.

IfCanCanICan · 15/01/2022 09:27

Hello all, can I join you please? I'll be turning 50 in September and absolutely refuse to be fat at 50!

I've at least 3 stone to lose, doing the Fast800, although, like you OP, I'm finding 800 difficult but 1000 entirely doable so I'm happy sticking to that each day.

I started on Monday, and have lost 5.4lbs already which I'm really pleased with.

I'm not one for exercise, and I now work from home and am a bit of a homebody so I can easily not move much in the day! But we moved house in October, so I decided we would walk to school, which meant I was doing c.13k steps a day, but I noticed no benefit from it weight-wise after two months. It also takes up such a big chunk of time (with the added time for chatting and playing and popping into the shop on the way home etc.) that I've decided to just walk the morning drop-off so I get fresh air and some exercise and I'm going to do a 7-minute SIT workout instead of the afternoon walk. I'm still a bit wiped out from covid though so haven't started that yet.

Really think that turning 50 is the motivation I need to stick with it.

dudsville · 15/01/2022 14:42

Absolutely @ifcancanican! There are new people most days so we're all just pitching in at our own pace with our own methods, but it's nice to share ideas. That's incredible weight loss of 1 lb a day, I think you can sell your method for a lot of money!

I got back on the exercise but still having a problem with the treadmill so I only did half of that. I put the handrail on to stop being thrown off again but it's backward. Will fix it later. I'd just fine the 10m cycle and was just so sweaty I wanted to move on with my day.

So loving the 16:8!

Roominmyhouse · 15/01/2022 17:59

Aggghhh saw the most unflattering picture of me this morning. Didn’t realise just how big I’d got. It’s no surprise my clothes are so tight given the belly I saw! ☹️

But onwards and upwards. I didn’t gain it overnight and I won’t lose it overnight. I’ve done 3 exercise sessions this week (one PT and 2 group) plus pilates. Planning on a bike ride tomorrow.

Food wise I’ve been good and although I may need to drop my daily calories slightly I’m trying to ease myself in so I don’t just feel hungry straight away! Got the MIL over for dinner Monday and they like a dessert. Will just have a small bit. Also going to DH grandparents weds so those aren’t ideal meals but I’ll just have to be extra good the days in between!

itstrue · 15/01/2022 20:20

I've had a good week. Down 1.9 pounds which is a total loss of 34 pounds. I know I'm doing well but I have another 41 pounds to go so sometimes it feels endless!

I've lost weight in the past but never managed to keep it off so I'm worried that it's going to be the same this time.

Roominmyhouse · 16/01/2022 08:58

Weighed in again today for some reason! Another 1.2lbs off. I’m down 2.6lbs in 10 days, decent considering I only starting properly calorie counting last Monday.

dudsville · 16/01/2022 14:05

That's amazing @roominmyhouse! And, I have the same worry @itstrue. Fit the first time ever I have a plan for maintenance once I reach my goal. For me this is sticking with the 16:8 as well as keeping up with the exercise, but at a reduced rate. What could you do to maintain?

emsmar · 16/01/2022 14:10

I'm reading this thinking please for the love of god (and your weight loss) eat more food. No less than 1500 a day. Go low fat, pad meals out with tons of extra veg and as much lean protein as you can. Honestly you will not be able to sustain that over the next few months and you will have an almighty crash and end up in a worse position than before. Up your calories, cut as much crap and processed foods out your diet, lots and lots of veg, lean meat and good fats and a shit town of water. You need the energy for your steps! Please please please don't keep going the way you are going xxx

dudsville · 16/01/2022 15:05

I've got my 5 mile walk to just under an hr, and my 10 mile cycle to just under 45 minutes. But at those paces I can't do both in one go, and I don't want to break it up across the day because I get too sweaty. So I'm still looking for a way to keep up the pace of exercise on work days. I'm now thinking just an hour after work is all I could really manage?

Roominmyhouse · 16/01/2022 18:31

Did a 10 mile bike ride today. Calories currently at around 1600 but that’s fine for a Sunday for me. I’m aiming for 1500 per day as an average. My daily average this week is 1638, but 1395 net after exercise according to MFP. I’ll definitely need to cut the calories in a few weeks but if I’m losing weight with this many I’ll stick to it while I can!

I think I'm going to have to Calorie count forever. If I could naturally do that then I wouldn't be fat.

I'm currently doing 15,000 steps a day but I'm planning to drop to 10,000 when I'm maintaining. 15,000 takes a lot of my time and I'm committed to it while losing weight but I think long term 10,000 will be manageable to maintain

I agree if your calories are too low you will become too hungry and you are likely to binge. These diets always present as it's your fault if you can't stick to them when in reality it's the diets fault if they are too restrictive.

Slow and steady wins this race as frustrating that is.

Back from DDs. Drank way too much wine on Friday night, but it was lovely just sitting in a pub with DD having a natter. Food was okish. Japanese restaurant on Friday evening but I struggled to find anything lowish in carbs so ended up having ramen, but left most of the noodles. Last night I had steak and salad and wine and pudding. Not sure I want to get on the scales tomorrow! Back to it in the morning.

@Itstrue, May I ask how your doing the 15,000 steps? Is it all one go, topping up at the end of the day, etc ? I've read that 10k is roughly equivalent to 5 miles, which I've only just got within 1hr, but I'm exhausted by then, can't imagine doing another half hour!

@Mrsmigginscat, sounds like you had a nice time! I'm so tempted to weigh, everyone's making such gains/losses. I'm terrified I haven't made any headway. It's silly, at the very least this exercise is very good for me as I was a potato before.

Roominmyhouse · 16/01/2022 20:57

@MrsMigginsCat it’s just one weekend and those weekends are going to happen and are an important part of life. As long as you enjoyed it, don’t worry about any water weight gained. It’ll go quick enough!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 16/01/2022 21:20

I'm late to the party but would love to join.
I'm 48 in Feb. And 3 stone over where I'd like to be (and where I was when I got to goal with WW about 8 years ago).

I put on a stone after falling off the wagon.
Then another when I started taking a medication long-term.
Then another when immobilised after a hip operation.

I seem to gain and lose the same half stone! I lost half a stone with covid in Nov and put it back on at Christmas.

I have a plan -
Calorie counting - I've rejoined nutracheck. Fast 800 was a bit too low, but I'm aiming for anywhere between that an 1400 a day.

I have a fatty liver (non-alcoholic based, it's because I'm overweight the gp says) and it means I cannot eat after 8 at night without suffering horrendous indigestion - so at least I'm forced to put a lid on evening snacking!

Exercise - running aggravates my hip but I have a bike and a rowing machine. I'm going to row or cycle every day that I'm not at my zumba classes (twice a week) as well as aiming for my 10k steps.

Onwards and downwards everybody!

It's hard at times. I use a combination of outside walking and treadmill when the weather isn't good enough. The treadmill was a game changer for me because it gives me far more options.

I've found if I aim for 12,000 steps by the afternoon - my dinner and end of day routine usually tips me over the 15,000 mark but otherwise I generally walk around the block until I get there. I take a walk for an hour and a half to meet that goal.

It is hard to take that amount of time out of my day at times. I'm using the Team RH app and it allows you to over (or under) step and then make it up as the week goes along however making up steps I find very difficult so I tend to over step during the week so I can take it a little easier in the weekend.

catwomando · 17/01/2022 08:16

Morning all!

Weighing in at 65.3 today and determined to get that down a kilo this week, despite it being DS birthday this week which involves curry and chocolate cake.

Please motivate me to get my wobbly arse out of bed to do yoga?

drybird · 17/01/2022 13:34

A delayed start for me but here I am! 50 in March and determined to change this year. I was a healthy 9.7 before lockdown.. I'm actually frightened to get on the scales but I'd guess I'm more like 12 stone now 🙈 I'd like to see that weight come off but there has been some changes that have potentially helped to pile on the pounds! I quit smoking in Feb 2020, we then went into lockdown and wine was my new friend.. lack of moving and stuck at home for long periods of time the momentum to go back to the gym has been lacking. So here I am making myself accountable. Hello all 👋

MrsMigginsCat · 17/01/2022 20:33

Welcome to the gang @drybird!

I've managed 10k steps today. Had a few quiet periods at work so jumped on the treadmill and I even managed a few short runs too. Aiming for the same tomorrow.

Did my first dance lesson in 6 months tonight. That got the step count up !

My dancing dress was a bit snug though Grin

Jocastafantastica1 · 18/01/2022 13:15

So I had a bit of a binge this weekend and also haven't ran for a week, on my weigh in this morning I have stayed the same as the week before, so feeling like I've got away with it Smile encouraging me to stick to plan and not go off piste this week.
