I thought a thread would help keep me motivated.

I started on the 27th December. Weighed in at 15st 12lb after gaining 4 stone over the last 2 years

I set my eating window between 12-6pm.

I don't plan to weigh regularly as I get obsessed with the scales. I really want need to lose 6 stone this year!

Anyone else want to join me?

@wouldukissafrog I drink a mixture of tea (with splash of milk, no sugar) blackcurrant juice or the odd 7up free, I have a coffee with 1 x sugar some mornings.

@prettycolours I fast until 12. It's not too bad, by 11.30am I'm usually clock watching though, but today i nipped to Tesco and took ds for a walk by the time I got back it was 1pm and I'd not eaten anything since 5 last night but managed.

Great thread @danni0509! I've been thinking of trying intermittent fasting, the only thing worrying me is that we don't normally eat dinner until after DS has gone to bed. He is not a great sleeper and sometimes takes a very long time to fall asleep, which would mean I miss the eating window. Has anyone else had this issue? Do you then miss your dinner? Or eat it anyway, as you're not eating anything extra?

No idea what my weight is, I'd guess about 2 stone more than I would like to be. I don't weigh myself as I have a history of disordered eating. I think IF might be ok for me as it doesn't involve 'rules' during the eating hours - which is the thing that I've struggled with before.

Wagsandclaws · 03/01/2022 18:39

Hello! I might join as I seem to be doing IF again.

I started a few years ago at 18.4 and now I'm about 12.2 ( ish - it fluctuates especially at Christmas! )

I do about 20/4 sometimes omad but I am quite bad about what I eat atm. Last spring I lost 1.5 stone and I did low carb, probably only for a month or so but it was quite easy, I'm going to try and it he same again.

I'm 5.5 and apple shaped so all my weight is around my middle, I'm still a size 16/18 because of my stomach and boobs sadly but I do think that this year I might try and get down to the magical 10.5 stone which would give me a bmi of 24 and maybe address all the weight around my middle.

The only way I can do omad is to drink lots of tea and coffee with half spoon sugar/sweetener in it, it's not ideal especially when I combine the coffee with coffee whitener which I do frequently but it keeps me satiated until it's time to eat.

Anyway I just wanted to say I also have a friend who was about 21 stone who is now 11 stone and she did it with IF - it can be done!

Like me she took her time and did it over some years ( I took about 4 in total - a bit here and a bit there.) I find that no bread suits me and no pasta as I don't like it much. I do generally eat what I want though, I'm 50 at the end of the month and want to get fitter and lose the last of this weight I think.

I have diabetes ( t2 of course ) and take a lot of medication. Sometimes I feel a bit dizzy especially on an omad day but if that happens I break my fast and eat an apple.

Anyway sorry forgot the rambling, just wanted to say it does work so so well and I will post here as it's nice to have IF buddies. I'm also going. To post two before and after pics, I think I was about 16 stone and then at 12.2 Smile the smaller ones are recent.

I do tend to drink quite a few cups of coffee (with milk, no sugar) during the day so that may keep me going. As long as I have a good dinner in the evening that should set me up for the next day hopefully. My eating habits are dreadful at the moment; in the evenings I often just snack endlessly instead of even having a proper meal.

twinkydink · 03/01/2022 18:51

Day 3 done! I'm finding 11-7 works nicely for me, haven't been too hungry and we eat fairly early anyway so doesn't feel hard stopping eating now. I am tracking as I know how bad my mindless eating is and it keeps me accountable.

Are people picking particular days to weight themselves?

Well done @danni0509 I would be so happy if I got 2.5lbs in my first week! @fourandahalfkids 5 stone that's amazing and in less than a year!

FastingFuriously · 03/01/2022 20:34

@poblwc could you just have a later window, so leave lunch till quite late in the afternoon. That or eat with ds which is what I always did, I couldn’t face getting back in the kitchen once mine were asleep.

@Wagsandclaws well done on the weight loss, good to hear some success stories. I also need that horse, looks like it would carry me, I’ll swap you for a stroppy 14hh cob who won’t leave his field mate 😂

I’m finding it quite hard to stop eating after dinner at the moment as we still have Christmas food hanging around. At least I’m not eating as much as last week though and it will be much easier once mine are back at school on Wednesday.

Wagsandclaws · 03/01/2022 20:42

@FastingFuriously behold my stroppy cob! She is my daughters and also throws a tantrum when taken out.

That's my lovely Fifi who passed away a couple of years ago, I bought her as she could carry me at the time - we now have two french native draught horses and our stroppy cob.

I like a big slow mare - no go faster switch for me so even though I've lost weight I still like to ride an enormous horse 🤣

I think we are all struggling with the left over Christmas food, my young sons are still having a slice of Yule log cake for pudding and it's very hard not to,

I've put on 2.5 lbs over the Christmas period, it's so hard to get back off isn't it?

@twinkydink I'm going to weight in a Friday I think, it would be pointless doing it on a Monday ( even though I started on a Monday ) because I usually get a bit slack ( Indian takeaway ) at the weekend.

I too am missing snacking in the evening whilst perusing mumsnet, I have some clementines just incase. It this is day one for me so far so good. ( yesterday I had Nando's )

Wagsandclaws · 03/01/2022 20:43

Oops forgot a pic of her and my two Comtois ( they are Mum and daughter ).

Anyone want to join me? Intermittent fasting.
poblwc · 03/01/2022 20:47

@FastingFuriously I don't think I'll make it much past midday without eating and DS tends to eat before I finish work. Going to have to do a bit of trial and error I think.

shetlandskies · 03/01/2022 20:51

I suppose you could alter it to suit you on different days pob if that makes it easier.

shetlandskies · 03/01/2022 20:52

I didn’t manage it this morning as I met someone for a late breakfast. I’m going to yoga at 9 am tomorrow so a lunchtime start should be easier.

Vapeyvapevape · 03/01/2022 20:56

Hi all , a bit late to the party, but I’d love to join please.

I find that I naturally eat 12-9 ish anyway but it’s the whole tubes of Pringles and bread that’s my downfall. I’m just past the menopause and haven’t changed my eating habits but have put on loads of weight, I’ve always been slim and feel awful now.

littleselda · 03/01/2022 21:16

Hello! Joining as well Smile I've been doing 14:10 to start with and I'm not sure if it's working or not! I have been snacking quite a lot though (Pringles are my downfall too!)

I'm going to try 16:8 tomorrow I think so that would be 11-7.

recklessgran · 04/01/2022 07:47

Morning all. Day 1 of my 12:8 low carb went fine and no bread was consumed. Lunch was tuna mayo salad and dinner roast beef and vegetables. I swerved the Yorkshire pudding and only had one roast potato. I'm happy with that as a start. I drank 2 black coffees and a 2 litre bottle of water. Still being lazy so no formal exercise but I'm in the middle of a declutter so I'm being marginally more active than normal. Rome wasn't built in a day, right?
@twinkydink I'm going to weigh on Mondays and report here. I'm also intending to post daily what I've been eating in the hope of staying accountable but also to make myself behave!

forressttheouut · 04/01/2022 09:33

@Wagsandclaws what an amazing change! and a beautiful horse!
I only managed to 11 today but had a small breakfast, plan is to now have a smallish snack/lunch at about 3pm otherwise I will struggle with a workout at 5pm and then dinner at 7. Tomorrow I don't have much on in the morning so hoping to get to 12pm.
Also plan to do an initial weigh in tomorrow morning as I didn't have time this morning.

MarvEll · 04/01/2022 10:27

Can I join it too? Some really promising starts here - this thread is inspiring me! I used to do IF and lost lots of weight and almost got to my goal weight if 9st, but then covid and preggos happened and now need to kick start again.

Can I ask about exercise? Is anyone doing any? I don't want to overdo it on an empty stomach. I used to go for a really long walk and then eat at 1ish, but was definitely lightheaded bythat point. Now it's harder to get out with baby in tow

shetlandskies · 04/01/2022 11:15

11-7 for me today. I have just returned from Yoga and had a piece of wholemeal toast with marmalade (no butter) because I was starving.

Not sure what the rest of the day holds food wise for me, I have got a chicken in the fridge so will probably cook that.

We are trying to eat more vegetarian food. I quite like the look of this ...Paneer pie. I haven't got paneer but have got halloumi, no pastry for the lid either so I would have to make some but it is a possibility, with spinach, yum.

shetlandskies · 04/01/2022 11:19

I exercise - nothing too strenuous atm. I've got a smart indoor bike, must get back on it as I haven't used it post COVID.

I have started gently, yoga, pilates (gone back to beginner classes) at the gym 2-3 times a week. I swim when I'm there if I've got time. I've got my yoga/pilates dvds out this morning and will have a look at what is available on ifit (the bike app) because I would like to do more.

Don't make yourself lightheaded with exercise MarvEll, just go gently.

shetlandskies · 04/01/2022 11:26

Oooooh, that paneer pie is quite calorific isn't it, I might just make it as a curry as it sounds lush 😂, leave off the pastry lid and have it with spinach and brown rice.

poblwc · 04/01/2022 11:33

49 minutes left of my first fast... not that I'm counting Wink

I've not found this morning difficult at all, just had water and two coffees. I think it will be more difficult on days where I'm doing the nursery run/in the office as I will have a walked a couple of miles first thing. We'll see!

Well done to everyone else!

danni0509 · 04/01/2022 12:03

I had a bad dream last night that I kept forgetting I was fasting & accepting snacks from people Grin
So was that because today's my no eat day (16hrs into a 36hr just now) or because I spent far too much time trying different fasting apps yesterday?!

Still can't find an App that's quite right - I want to plan a week of fasting (BodyFast) but be able to report when I actually stop/start (Fastic).

momager1 · 04/01/2022 12:49

I started on new years eve , and really have been shocked how easy it has been so far! I seem to do best hunger wise if i start eating around 10 and go to 6. My brain is trained to go vlc, but this time around I am eating what I want within reason. I believe the reason that I always regained (and a little more each time) was that I ate so little carbs that as soon as I got to a weight that was comfortable, all the carbs snuck back in. So this time I am not depriving myself of the things I love, just doing it in moderation during the eating window. This will be OUR year ladies!!! I will weigh in on Friday and if I even get a pound gone I will consider that a win
