I thought a thread would help keep me motivated.

I started on the 27th December. Weighed in at 15st 12lb after gaining 4 stone over the last 2 years

I set my eating window between 12-6pm.

I don't plan to weigh regularly as I get obsessed with the scales. I really want need to lose 6 stone this year!

Anyone else want to join me?

@Bonbon21If you do @ then write the person's name it will notify them you've replied!

12 stone is my aim for my hen do in April! 2 days in and all going OK at the moment. Got a roast cooking now but usually I'd provably haven't eaten about 1200 Calories before the roast and today I've had about 500 so I know I can enjoy it guilt freeSmile

danni0509 · 02/01/2022 17:46

Bounce I have a coffee first thing with 1 sugar in. I drink tea through the day which weirdly I can drink with no sugar.

I'm finished for today, I went out for lunch so ate at 1 ish, Game terrine and a roast beef lunch that was absolutely beautiful, couldn't eat it all. No pud, just an espresso and an orange when I got home.

I am stuffed. It will be interesting to see if it works for me at my time of life without changing what I eat in the eating window. 🤞🏻

Pleased to see people still have milk, I don't take sugar but I do like milk in my morning coffee.

2319inprogress · 02/01/2022 18:55

W.R.T. morning drinks As far as I remember eating/drinking something less than 50 cals doesn't take your body out of the fasted state but I can't remember where it's from - probably Fung.

momager1 · 02/01/2022 22:28

I am in!! I started this new years eve! Was really pleased to see this thread. I am eating between 10 am and 6 pm. I weighed myself yesterday and am 192 lbs or 13stone 9 lbs. I need to lose at least 2.5 stone . So daunting but I am only going to weigh 2x a month so not to get scale obsessed. I also need to have milk in my morning tea, so will continue to do that. Glad to see that there are others on the same journey!

AlexaShutUp · 02/01/2022 22:34

Just a word of caution...I got on very well with intermittent fasting and found it very easy, but I ended up with gallstones. I was losing weight at a relatively slow pace so didn't think this would be a huge risk but apparently it's quite common among intermittent fasters. I'm currently waiting to have my gallbladder removed, but actually, I haven't had any attacks since I stopped doing IM.

I know it works wonders for some people, and it probably is the easiest way to lose weight, but gallstones are bloody awful and I wouldn't wish them on anyone!

Locomelon · 02/01/2022 23:20

Yes please! Feel so gross. I've piled the weight on the last 3 years. Can no longer blame baby weight as my youngest baby is 2 and a half! I reckon I've put half a stone on over Christmas, I don't know when to stop Blush

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 03/01/2022 00:08

Starting Tuesday- already dreading getting on the scales but IF worked for me during lockdown

fourandahalfkids · 03/01/2022 09:05

Just want to say I love this w.o.e. I started 18.6 in March and have lost 5 stone so far. 1 more to lose. I've paired it with low carb which works really well for me. I know it is frowned upon but I couldn't give up my tea either. It's the one thing I need to get me going in the morning. But I use soya milk instead of semi skimmed now. I also drink herbal teas during fast and non fast times (pine needle, fennel, lemon and Ginger, peppermint).
I don't know whether it has slowed my weightloss as I have been doing it since I started but I'm pretty happy with my rate of loss anyway. So I will just keep on doing what I'm doing.
I will say the weight literally falls off at the beginning but it does level off and you lose a more modest amount as time goes by. Nothing wrong with this if you are thinking of it as not a diet but a w.o.e for life . Good luck everyone.
P.s I can recommend walking and hula hooping for excersise. Dh has literally just started me on a weights programme to tonne up my flabby bits but I didn't fancy that when I was bigger.

danni0509 · 03/01/2022 09:24

I got weighed this morning after my first week and lost 2.5lb. It's less than I expected but I've not deprived myself of anything I wanted as long as it's been in my eating window (which I've stuck to religiously) so I'll take 2.5! It's in the right direction.

just checking back in, so happy to see loads of others who love this approach to eating. In case it's useful to anyone, here's what works for me:

mornings 6am - 12pm - wake up and drink water / sugar free squash / black coffees
lunch - normal meal, I don't eat gluten but still eat carbs
afternoon - might have a snack (have gradually found my appetite has reduced doing this anyway)
dinner - normal dinner and dessert (Christmas chocolates at the moment!)
no food after 8pm.
evenings - tea with a bit of soya milk / Diet Coke / sugar free squash

SO EASY!

recklessgran · 03/01/2022 10:49

Morning! I'm in too please if that's O.K? I'm starting today at 13st 13.75lbs. I'm doing 12-8 and low carb/lazy keto.
I have an underactive thyroid treated with levo, am older and also very lazy physically with a busy desk bound job which doesn't help. I've lost nearly 3 stone before doing this but put it all back on as soon as I started eating bread again. I 'm completely addicted to it and cannot leave it alone , any bread, toast, sandwiches, rolls, baguettes you name it I could eat it all day long and in preference to proper meals. As a result I currently have what I refer to as a big bread baby in front of me that I'm hoping will disappear fairly soon. I will also be drinking water to help the process. Lots of water.
I'm hoping to post here daily what I eat and drink in the hope of staying accountable to you lot in respect of the bread addiction. In the past I have been a daily weigher but this time I'm going to try to be patient and weigh weekly.
I know this works for me - just have to stay on the wagon and in the zone.

Babymamamama · 03/01/2022 11:40

How is everyone doing? I am properly into the fasting now. Already had my first coffee of the day with the unsweetened almond milk. Can’t wait to see some progress on the scales but that will take a few days I imagine. For me it’s switching the mindset of enjoying feeling full to enjoying feeling fasted. And after the excesses of Christmas that’s quite a switch up. I also want to get back on track with my steps as everything has slipped over the break.

Really helpful thanks for posting. Do you have a tea/drink after 8pm? Do your snacks tend to be fruit?

Wow that's amazing, I am similar start weight, you must feel so good. Would you mind posting some meal ideas for us to use. Thank you
mrsjhalpert · 03/01/2022 12:31

I drink tea with soya milk and/ or squash and Diet Coke after 8pm. Snacks can be anything (I’m gluten free but for other reasons). I do try and eat plenty of protein as I find it fills me up more but I do eat biscuits and sweet stuff if I fancy it. For me, the key has been that I felt good for the fasting quite quickly and then saw the weight coming off which has really motivated me to embrace a bit more balance throughout my diet really. So because I’m not obsessed about good/ bad food and what I can/ can’t have etc I’m actually finding it easier than ever to have a sensible approach. If I really want something sweet I have it, I haven’t then ‘blown my diet’ and then use it as an excuse to eat every single thing because I’ll start again tomorrow etc. Which is what has always happened for me previously when I restrict food.

forressttheouut · 03/01/2022 13:26

Hello I'd also like to join, IF does work pretty well for me as long as I calorie count within the time frame. I usually do 11-8 or 12-8 if I can make it that long. Slightly longer window than I would like but DP doesn't get home from work until 7 and I don't want us to have to eat separately. I did this at the start of last year mon-fri with slightly more leway but still being sensible at the weekend and did loose some weight. I've managed to keep it off but I never got anywhere near my target so still have 10kgs to loose. I plan to weigh weekly or twice weekly as I find daily is just to much and I get a bit obsessive. Also hoping getting back in to running will help

prettycolours · 03/01/2022 14:18

I'm considering doing this as well, would be starting tomorrow (when I go back to work). Reading some posts has made me nervous though as it seems a lot of posters struggle to fast until 12pm? My window would have to be 1-9 as there is no way for me to take my lunch before 1pm when I'm at work.

Is that unrealistic? I usually just have a couple of weetabix with semi skimmed milk for breakfast and end up feeling hungry again by about 10.30am so I'm thinking it won't make a lot of difference anyway if I don't have breakfast.

recklessgran · 03/01/2022 17:05

@prettycolours not sure if it would be possible as obviously it depends on your job but could you take a few nuts or something like that to nibble on at midday if you're going to struggle to get to 1.00pm. Personally I just drink a glass of water if I'm struggling to make it to my eating window.

wouldukissafrog · 03/01/2022 17:17

I'd like to join please. Is it just water allowed in fasting periods?

Babymamamama · 03/01/2022 17:21

I drink a range of things during the fasting phases including mineral water, herbal tea, both caffeinated and decaf teas and coffees either black or with unsweetened almond milk. I don’t think I could get through fasting without all these. I avoid artificial sweeteners as apparently they aren’t great for fasting.

moiraswigs · 03/01/2022 17:33

I'm in, I've done it before and lost 2.5 stone. Then I got complacent, stopped doing it and have put on a stone since. My eating hours are going to be 11-7. Looking to loose 1.5 stone.

Angrymum22 · 03/01/2022 17:41

I lost 10kg doing intermittent fasting a couple of years ago. To kick start I did low calorie/low carb initially then maintained by just doing fasting. It has become a life style now but I’ve been n sick leave for the last four months so difficult to keep to it when DH “helpfully brings me breakfast in bed.
I’m back to work tomorrow so will get back to it now.
I found maintenance was a doddle and could eat what I wanted (within reason) and by eating when I felt hungry. I’ve never been a breakfast eater. For lunch I have soup or sushi then a decent meal in the evening. I’m usually too full to snack in the evening.
Good luck everyone.

fourandahalfkids · 03/01/2022 17:58

@Sunshineandrainbow
Meal ideas,
So tonight I've just finished off some pizza. The base is made from a mixture of turkey mince, cheese and flaxseed. I top with green pesto instead of tomato paste. Add some mushrooms, spring onions, bacon and chorizo and top with mozzarella. My favourite.

I also make a risotto from cauliflower rice (bought in Iceland in individual bags) its great and you can't really tell the difference.

Chicken wrapped in bacon, stuffed with pesto and mozzarella is another good one.

I always break my fast with a salad. Mixed green salad, 2 hard boiled eggs, peppered mackerel fillet, Cucumber, avocado and a little bit of mayo.

I try and keep my carbs under 50g a day. But I do allow myself the occasional piece of chocolate and on Saturdays a whole brownie. You've got to let yourself have a treat now and then.

@danni0509 thank you xx
