Calorie counting for the new year, anyone want to join?

Hello :)
I have a 11lbs to lose, and planning on calorie counting as it’s worked well for me in the past. I’ll be using Nutracheck and on 1450 calories a day. I really need accountability so I’m planning to post my calories and meals each evening, and weigh in every Thursday starting tomorrow.

I’d love some company!
Happy to talk to myself if not though (and I fully expect I will be as it’s a bit of a boring thread 😂).

I was planning to start on the 1st but due to being absolutely disgusted with how much I’ve eaten over Christmas I’m starting tomorrow instead Grin

I’m also planning a general lifestyle improvement - much less time on my phone, and some kind of exercise every day.

Good luck to anyone else looking to lose weight in the new year! 💪

I'll join! Starting on new year's day. Will be calorie counting and also exercise (that I started this week) been meal planning for the week ahead so I am prepared.

Elopelo · 29/12/2021 18:54

Yes, me too please! I could have written your post word for word OP! I have weight to lose and a lot of it but I also want to fix up and reset other things too, like getting out for a walk every day and going to bed earlier. I have ordered a calorie tracker log book from Amazon ( I have tried and failed many a time when it comes to making my own, fill it in for a few days and then nothing for months, so thought if I actually buy one I will be more likely to fill it in on time) anyway it should be here tomorrow so I’m hoping to start then too!

Orchid876 · 29/12/2021 18:55

Ohh I’ll join you, I bit the bullet and bought the annual subscription to Nutracheck earlier today. I’ve also had success with calorie counting before, it’s the only thing I have actually had success with, despite trying different strategies. Much as I wish I didn’t need to approach weight loss in this way, counting every calorie, I know I do need to. If I have an intention to eat healthier it doesn’t happen unless I track, so here I am. I’m going to be on 1600 calories if I hit my minimum 15k steps a day (or other exercise equivalent). I’m going to be applying Team RH principles without actually following their plan as I hate MyFitnessPal. If I don’t hit my steps I’ll be on 1470 calories.

Stellaris22 · 29/12/2021 18:58

I have had great success with My Fitness Pal (lost 30kg this year) and let myself relax over Christmas, glad I did.

I track my protein as I regularly go the gym and enjoy strength training with a PT, so being able to track protein and calories really helps.

In 2022 I'm aiming to lose another 20-25kg so will be calorie tracking to consume under 1500 a day. On a good gym day I can burn 500-600 calories but don't 'eat back' those calories.

FlabCrab · 29/12/2021 19:10

Oh this is brilliant!! I wasn’t expecting anyone to reply 😂🙈
@Stellaris22 I never count or eat exercise calories either. Just stick to my 1450.
I’m very small though - 5’1 - so my allowance isn’t huge but I do lose on it.

I was at my target weight in March 2020 then the wheels fell off a bit. Because I’m not tall and am quite petite, a small gain really shows on me. I’ve put 11lbs on over that time which I know isn’t masses but I’ve gone up a dress size, my clothes are all tight and bulgy and I just feel crap.
But not for long!!

Massive good luck everyone 💐💐

Hey, I'll join in too! I'm going to start new years day. I want to lose 2 stone, After 3 baby's this is the heaviest I have ever been. I'm planning on calorie counting with my fitness Pal and going to start walking every day to get my steps in

Tailrunner · 30/12/2021 00:29

Can I join please. I've downloaded the Nutracheck app so I can start calorie counting from 1st. I have a lot more than you to lose (3 to 4 stone Blush) but I'm hoping I can get it all off over the next year.

MotherMole · 30/12/2021 01:08

I’ll join. Hi everyone! I also use Nutracheck. Quite like it. My problem is overindulging… so hoping that a little group like this might help keep me on track. Smile

Slidey23 · 30/12/2021 08:25

I’m in.
I’ve gone from 75kg to 70kg this year and kept it off, which is and achievement for me. I do plenty of exercise but my downfall is wine.
I’m using Nutracheck too at about 1500 cals. I want to get back to 64kg but starting on 2nd Jan as we’re having roast dinner on Saturday with wine before we do Dry January!

MotherMole · 30/12/2021 09:55

@Slidey23 You’re goal is the same as mine. It’s amazing how many calories wine takes up 😟

tumbledryerfault · 30/12/2021 14:14

Count me in too... starting nutracheck on 2nd (having family over for New Years years dinner on 1st).. I've about 1-1.5 stone to lose, baby turned one in November and still carrying most of the extra baby weight so no excuses now really. I'm short 5ft so like op any extra weight really shows on me. Ive defo overindulged over December too so not looking forward to stepping on scales on 2nd! 🙈

tumbledryerfault · 30/12/2021 14:14

Sorry meant to say nutracheck has given me 1400 cals so not much but better than the 1200 I was expecting!

FlabCrab · 30/12/2021 14:26

Work out your calorie allowance with a TDEE calculator @tumbledryerfault you might find your allowance is higher!
This is an accurate one - www.jamessmithacademy.com/macro-calculator/
Much better to get your accurate figure than try and fail to eat too few.

That’s a good link. Thanks @FlabCrab

FlabCrab · 30/12/2021 20:51

I’ve actually had a successful first day! I usually fail the first few days, having a chocolate and 10am and going ‘fuck it I’ll start tomorrow’ 😂😂

Breakfast: 2 slices of soreen with butter (210)
Lunch: bagel with soft cheese, apple and crisps (528)
Dinner: chicken sausages with mash, green veg dvd gravy (412)
Pudding: Arctic roll (124)
Snack: muller corner (150)

Total - 1424

Hope everyone else has had a nice day, either of dieting or filling your face prior to dieting 😂👍

Day 2 has not gone so well, as DH had ordered a takeaway three course meal from my favourite restaurant to prior to what ge believed was my start day tomorrow 🙈😂
So I couldn’t exactly calorie count!

Tomorrow is a fresh day though 💪💪

Happy new year!!

FlabCrab · 01/01/2022 19:41

The hangover for me means I have had no motivation whatsoever today, but I've stuck to diet plan. The running will have to wait til tomorrow.
Weighed in. I think I want to lose 3 stone, maybe 4. It's gonna be a long old slog.

MotherMole · 02/01/2022 11:39

Properly on it today and will be adding my calories now (rather than ignoring the app 😃).

9km run done…. Good luck to everyone today. ✌🏼

tumbledryerfault · 02/01/2022 11:48

Starting today - weighed myself this morning - 4lbs on over December hoping it's water weight but pretty sure it's all cheese and chocolate! Hoping to head out for my weekly shop today if anyone has any good tips or must buys! Thanks @FlabCrab used your link and it gave me 1510 so going to try for 1400 see how I go and if needs be I can up it a wee bit. Nutracheck app looks great so easy to use! Hope everyone who started yesterday got on ok. Smile

tumbledryerfault · 02/01/2022 11:49

@MotherMole 9km run that's impressive!! I'm still in my pjs 🙈 I'm trying to tidy up the Christmas choas with a 1 year old and 3 year old trying to "help"...

MotherMole · 02/01/2022 12:48

Thanks @tumbledryerfault the extra Christmas weight has made me slower, it was quite hard going.

4lbs is easily lost and not too bad considering it’s been Christmas.

Tips for shopping - I buy LOADS of fruit to snack on when I crave something sweet. A punnet of raspberries is about 40 calories so I never feel as guilty scoffing them.

MotherMole · 02/01/2022 12:59

Ooh and rich tea biscuits I quite like. 38 calories a biscuit so if you have 3 it’s nowhere near as bad as others.
